On our bicycle trip from St. Louis to Kansas City along the Katy Trail, we stopped for the night in Booville, camping out. We decided we wanted to find a restaurant that could really satisfy our appetite. We got a list of Boonville restaurants from the visitors center and decided on WJ's, because they listed steak on their menu. My boyfriend and I both ordered the steak sandwiches with soup and salad. The soup, ham and bean, was more delicious than any ham and bean soup we'd ever had. The salad was meticulously made, not only attractive to the eye, but with fresh ingredients that made us remember how much we loved a good salad. The steak sandwiches were cooked to perfection (mine medium rare) and seemed to truly melt in our mouths. We never order dessert and were completely stuffed from the meal, but decided we couldn't resist trying something, since everything else had been so exquisite. We weren't disappointed. We eat out at a lot in Kansas City, and I would have to say, WJ's measures up to any restaurant we've been to in the city. We will definintely go back to WJ's if we are in Boonville again and will highly recommend it to anyone we know travelling there. read more

This place is a great little secret destination. The food is outstanding and way above any expectations we initially had. The staff is very courteous and prompt making our experience that much more enjoyable. We stayed overnight in Boonville during a bike trip on the Katy Trail. We were starving after a long day on the trail, so we were looking forward to a good dinner. We were very happy with the meal we ate at WJ's. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. They had a good selection of beers on tap, and my husband enjoyed the mixed drink he ordered. The homemade ranch dressing for the salad was awesome. My husband ordered a steak and I had the steak quesadilla and both entrees were excellent. It was a very enjoyable evening after spending a long hot day on the trail. read more

This place was a nice surprise. We enjoyed the New Year's eve menu was delicious. We enjoyed the scallops and the sweet and spicy ribs.

Great service and friendly staff. We showed up with about 20 baseball players and parents before our game. Brad, the owner, said it would be no problem served and out in time for the game, even if we had to go back to the kitchen help himself. Great beer selection and good food, Brad came out after dinner and told his story of how the bar/restaurant was open and a little bit about the history of Booneville. Highly recommended read more

Guests were in town and we ended up at this place. I attempted to wipe the slate clean and pretend this was my first visit. The young waitress was slow, not very knowledgeable and did a poor job of concealing her chewing gum. And, yes she got our order wrong. Food took a long time to come to table, not all food arrived at same time for four at our table, and some of the meal was warmer than other things on same plate. And as before, portions in relation to price were small. I think restaurant is attempting to be upscale, and they are not being successful. The only thing positive for this visit was that our guest in town picked up the check. read more

Had an amazing sandwich here! My husband says the burger her got WJ's burger was probably the best burger he ever had! Got to chat with the owner who was extremely nice. His mom makes all the deserts homemade so we had to try. The lemon desert was very good a perfect mix of warm and cold! We would go back for sure! read more

We were in town celebrating our anniversary. I chose this restaurant because of the entree menu and Yelp reviews. The employees were kind and attentive, but sadly, our meal was awful. I can't think of a worse restaurant meal. My husband got the Ribeye, it tasted bland and was just a poor cut of meat. I got the Boonslick Chicken, which was heavily seasoned, but ok. We both chose garlic cream scalloped potatoes as our side. They were so heavily seasoned and peppery, they were not edible. Also, if you see the photos on here of the Bloody Mary, that's not what you will get. We ordered one and it came with 2 green olives only. This was a special occasion meal for us, and turned out to be completely disappointing. For the cost of this meal (with tip over $65), the quality was not there. To be fair, I did not discuss any of our issues with the restaurant staff while we were there, so they were unable to attempt to make any changes. We were starving when we got there so we just ate what we could and left as quick as possible. I am only posting a review because I relied on reviews in my decision to go there. For the money, I wish we would've chosen our other option, which was the Blufftop Bistro at Les Bourgeois. read more
