Holy moly, this was such find! Found this place in Yelp when looking for a place to eat with friends before going to the casino. It's in an old house and the food was delicious. All four of us ooohed and aaahed over the food. Had a pasta with white sauce, a pasta with red sauce, pork chops and steak and all were done perfectly. Flavor and seasoning! We searched Yelp for the nicest restaurant in Boonville, and this was it. Hannah served us (among other very young servers) but she did fine. I had the Flat Iron Salad (grilled steak, cheese and other basic salad ingredients). The steak was good but wish it would have been a little more tender. I didn't care for its dill horseradish dressing, but Hannah brought me their poppyseed dressing which was delicious--house made and onion based. My husband and I shared the praline bread pudding for dessert (fantastic!). Passing through Boonville Missouri and found this awesome, very quaint, locally-owned restaurant! So glad we stopped in! Beginning with the staff, they were all so friendly; especially our server Hannah...(I told you I was going to Yelp you!) The salad, although regular romaine mix, came with a delicious, homemade ranch dressing. I could have easily drank it but people were watching! The pasta dish, penne served with chicken had a subtle lemon and garlic sauce...perfect . The hubby ordered a well-done steak which I thought was a mistake, but behold, it was so tender and served with fried potatoes which were delicious! Did I forget to mention the pumpkin spice martini (or 2) that I ordered? Very Thanksgiving-ish and yes, made me feel 'grateful'. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the owner, Brad. Looking for a local place to eat after a day on the road, WJ's fit the bill perfectly for us - great service, tasty well prepared food, and a friendly owner. Owner Brad and Server Josie were attentive and made us feel welcomed. The restaurant is in an old house and the conversion was done well. Chicken and Chokes sandwich was SO flavorful and served on a toasted sourdough roll. The Paul Burger (Brad style) was cooked exactly as my husband likes a burger. Been here several times. A hidden gem in Boonville. A converted home serving up some excellent dishes! Lots of history here and worth looking over the many pictures and articles posted on the walls. We went to this place after driving 12 hours from Colorado on our way to Kentucky. It was tucked away a block off of the Main Street and the place was not crowded because it was a Wednesday night at 7:30. Everyone who worked there was really friendly and we were glad it wasn't crowded because we were really hungry and we didn't want to wait long for food. We both had the mushroom and onion burger and I had a side of onion rings and my husband had the homemade beef and vegetable soup. Everything was delicious and it came out quickly. Driving in after an MU game, we almost missed this place. It is a lovely little restaurant in a home along a residential street. The outside is a little misleading for the menu that they offer. They have a wide variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and some upscale entrees. The walls are covered with pictures and articles that must tell the story of the community and they offer some interesting things to look at while waiting for your meal. Hubby ordered the chicken ciabatta sandwich and I had the bourbon st burger. Both were excellent choices. The food tasted very fresh and flavorful! We enjoyed meeting the owner and learning that owning a cool bar and restaurant is a passion of his and has become his 2nd job. He is very personable and seems to really want his customers to have the best experience possible. Currently, they are only open for dinner Wednesday through Friday. The "WJ's Burger" was an almost spiritual event for me. If you've had the "Royal Red Robin" then you're close to this but still not as good. The difference in quality and deliciousness would be akin to that of Outback Steakhouse as compared to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Both burgers are good, but the WJ's Burger is HOLY CRAP good. I seriously held off on the final bite because I didn't want it to end. On the down side, to call the service slow would be like calling a hurricane windy. Nobody in my group ordered anything that should have justified the wait we experienced. Not everyone enjoyed their meal quite as much. The chicken on the Nachos was apparently questionable but the chicken sandwich got good review. I and one other person in our group of 7 got the WJ's Burger and we both were enraptured. Nobody else seemed quite as impressed. So, if you're looking for an almost life changing burger... do not pass go. Proceed directly here. read more

It had been a year since I had been to WJ's. It was just as good as I remember! I went by myself last time, this time I took 11 friends. The food was obviously chef-prepared. Not worth the drive. 6 of us stopped in for dinner after the show at the Lyceum theater hoping for a quick, tasty meal before driving back to St. Louis. It was just after 5pm when they open, only one other table occupied, and we figured we could get in and out quickly. Took forever to get our food and we only ordered salads and sandwiches. The soup of the day, a roasted baked potato soup, looked like mud, was thick like glue, and had no flavor. The sandwiches were tasteless and boring. The hot crab dip didn't appear to have any real crab in it, wasn't hot, and was thick and tasteless. We arrived at 5:15, and finally left at 7:00. Dinner meal prices were completely overpriced. Appetizers were overpriced for the amount received. See comment above about the "crab" dip. Sandwich prices were fair, but weren't tasty. Servers were average. I ate here with my family last summer for the first time and was blown away. The front is a bar area, where they serve at least 5 speciatly beers on tap, plus full bar. After a couple brews, we were seated in the back which is a quiet dining area. The night I went the special was lamb chops, which had already sold out by 7 when we showed up, so they must've been killer. I ended up having the blackened pork chop that was the size of my palm! I found this place while on a business trip. The building is just off main street and easily passed. Watch for the neon in the windows. It was early when my guest and i arrived. While I'm outside the car waiting for her to park, a Mennonite carriage with 3 passengers in it flops by. It was surreal! They waved, I waved....it was special. So is the food at WJ's. I'm sad I won't be able to eat here regularly. The beef filet and au gratin potatoes were fabulous! I still think about the potatoes and wish I could make them......The desserts are homemade and the zebra cake was delicious. It was served in a small ball jar. I've ever seen one like it.
