After dining next door, we wanted to have a night cap nearby and Madison Local Motive, which is a…read moretrain car turned bar, was highly recommended, so we popped over. The space is two cars, with one set up as a full-time bar, and the other a mixed space that was a dance club on the night we visited. The bar car was super cute and quaint, but also tight and cramped, especially with a crowd. The car is set up with a single person bar towards the back, and lounge seating along one side leaving small space for folks to walk and wait for the bar. The other car had the bar up front and the dance floor and seating in the back. This car had a cover, so we just did cocktails and lounged a bit in the bar car. The single bartender, while he was friendly and made a good cocktail, created a backlog of folks waiting for drinks. We waited 10 minutes in a single file line for our cocktails. I went with the espresso martini, and my pal got an old fashioned. Both tasty, but the glassware was wayyyyy too small. The line never cleared, so we did one and done unfortunately. The concept is great, but execution is lacking. I know there is limited space, but the current layout and function is not the greatest, especially on the cocktail car side of things. Overall, it was cool to experience and now we can say we have done it.

We wanted an outdoor wedding, with some indoor seating for dinner, that was not only beautiful but personalized. We got all of that (and then some) at Still Point Flower Farm. Penny and Phil are such a wonderful couple to work with, they were available anytime we needed them and worked hard to make any request we had a reality. There's apparently a venue on the second floor as well, but we only went to the rooftop bar open to the public. There was a decent crowd on a Friday night with one bartender - probably not gonna cut it long term when everyone's ordering Old Fashioneds. I was very grateful to get waited on first. They did not have Makers Mark at the bar, so I went with Bulleit instead and that doesn't really bother me. Just might need to get a few kinks worked out. It was still chilly outside so having some sun was very welcomed. There's not a ton of natural shade aside from parts of the building depending on time of day, so I hope there will be some awnings or something as we go into summer. This is a fun spot and some rooftop dining is lacking in the area so it certainly fills a void. Even if it's just a suburban view, there's something that feels a little extra magical about a rooftop. I hope to be back.

An engagement party is supposed to be a joyful, celebratory occasion, but Michelle's incredibly rude demeanor cast a shadow over the entire function. She lacked basic customer service and professionalism. Instead of helping the event run smoothly, her attitude created unnecessary tension and actively ruined the atmosphere of the evening. A venue can be beautiful, but the staff makes or breaks the experience. Based on how Michelle treated us, I absolutely do not recommend patronizing this establishment. At a conference, in the buffet line, I had gotten salad and the server was getting ready to swap a new bowl in. I held onto the tongs to try and make that task easier for him, but he told me to "give me that," so I did. I moved on in the line, and heard him ask "You think that's funny, huh?". I asked for clarification and he repeated this, to which I responded that I was just trying to help. He then said "I don't need your help, don't need your help." I left it at "Sorry," but once I was a few meters down the line, I looked back and he yelled at me, asking "Why you looking at me? Don't look at me!". He repeated this a few times, I told him that I hoped the rest of his day would be better, and he said "My days are always perfect. You're the problem, you're the one having a bad day."

Picking up a new board couldn't have been easier. Also, when I was at the end of my project and about 15 nails short, they were gracious enough to mail them out to me so I didn't have to drive from Milwaukee to Madison. The customer service here is phenomenal and really made me feel like they cared about their customers. I will be the first to say that I'm not a crafty person but the "Love" design was one I was willing to put forth the effort for and I'm so glad I did. Hammering all those little nails took a little more time than I expected and I'm glad this was a project for home so I could work on it as time allowed.
