What an absolute dumpster. This "inn" is a cheap motel with torn towels, moldy showers, crappy rooms and (for some reason) new-ish flooring. Whoever is running a scam of charging premium price point of $200+ a night for this shed is only doing it because there isn't enough business in town to rent it out by the hour. The "breakfast" is represented by an unclean coffee machine and a basket of Costco snacks by the front desk, in a permanently-locked room, where the clerk (a local teen) is never present. She emerges sporadically, every now and then, mostly in the afternoon when new tenants are expected - but is nowhere to be seen in the morning or during posted "breakfast hours". The place has some sort of shed int he back, cracked pavement parking lot, and pretty much nothing else around. We packed our things and fled after one night, not prepared to stay in this hole for the full duration we paid for. Ew. read more

We stayed here and did not pay $200. as it was off season. The room initially looked okay, floors were newish, decor okay. But the biggest red flag was that my dog refused to walk on the floor! She jumped on the bed, and would not come down even for food or water. I think something on the floor was hurting her paws, or she smelled something, not sure? Also the bed was very uncomfortable, and then the door to the bathroom was dirty and had spots on it. I guess there used to be a hot tub, but it wasn't working. I don't usually leave reviews, but this place was beyond horrible and people need to be warned. From the moment I walked into the room, I regretted everything. The floors were disgusting -- sticky in some spots, crusty in others, and covered in strange stains that made me genuinely uncomfortable to take my shoes off. I'm not even sure what some of it was -- red, brown, and something that looked like it might still be alive. The bathroom was even worse. The shower had black mold growing in the corners and along the grout. The smell hit me like a wall -- damp, mildew, and something rotting. I couldn't even bring myself to step in without sandals, and even that felt risky. Worst of all, there was a bug crawling on the bed. Not just near it -- on it. I don't know if it was a bedbug or just some horrible cousin, but that was the final straw. I went to the front desk to complain, and the customer service was absolutely awful. The person working didn't even look surprised, barely acknowledged what I said, and did not offer another room No apology, no solution, just a shrug. Stayed August 19, 2025. Have stayed here several times for annual hiking trips with dog. Older property and very basic, but OK for the money. But this time we booked a pet-friendly unit and requested ground floor. Even called front desk Kathy with the request, but she booked us 2nd floor unit and claimed it was "Expedia's fault". (Wrong - we are travel agents with Expedia account.) She had a ground floor room for +$10, but wouldn't upgrade us to it!! We persisted; she threatened to throw us off the property. FORTUNATELY, REGIONAL MANAGER LANDON ARRIVED BEFORE THE POLICE, CHARGED THE $10 UPGRADE AND GOT US INTO A GROUND FLOOR ROOM (#101 nice). KUDOS, LANDON. If Front desk agent Kathy isn't there, we might stay there next year. Also - make sure to dine at HIGHWAY 20 PIZZA about a quarter mile away. We booked this room at around 200 dollars for the night. Front person was there and decently knowledgeable. Gave me the code to get in the room as these are locks like you would have on the door of your house that won't lock until you manually lock it. We immediately went to the room that was so filled with smoke you would think it was a smoking break room. It was difficult to breathe. Before we could get into the room a dog came running in and jumped on our bed. Sorry I couldn't get a photo of that. There was a huge gap to the outside of the room under the window unit air conditioner. The floors were unclean and had stuff on them including razor blades. The room and the beds were from the 1970's at best and had no updates since then. We ended up trying to change rooms but the front receptionist said no rooms were available. We asked for our money back so we could get another hotel but was refused. We called the booking agency and the woman got extremely mad and made us leave. We are still trying to get our money back. When we arrived, We noticed tons of bad things. 1. The place looked run down, it was that bad. they also said that it has been renovated, but that was a lie. 2. They said they served complimentary breakfast, but when we looked at it. We were not hungry for breakfast anymore, and the doors to the office where "breakfast" is served were locked. no employees were even in the office all night! This is as much about booking.com as anything, as they didn't notify the property of the cancellation we did, and now we have to pay the full price. The customer is at the murcy of people they will never speak too doing their job or you pay. Terrible trying to get in touch with booking.com for help, not possible, no email, no one comes to the phone, shocking why to run a business. We booked this in a rush and therefore did not check the reviews, our bad. First let us share the positives about our stay last week. We insisted on, and got a ground floor room in the newly renovated section of the hotel. The room was clean with a small fridge and a microwave provided. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. The young check-in person did her best to accommodate our requests. There were ample supplies of soap, shampoo etc., and the air conditioner worked well albeit a bit noisy. The cons: There is no way that this tired old property is worth the $200++ a night. To say that the Reception area is "tired" is an understatement. The back of house is unkempt to say the least, with the leftover breakfast items sitting open for resident flies. Our room had a huge hole is ceiling above the shower, what can enter the room through this big hole? There was no iron, no hairdryer but the front desk has one. The noise from next room and the room above while tolerable was loud. No undercover parking so car interior boiling hot. There is a pool and hot tub, did not venture into either. There are much better options in Winthrop but completely understand the challenges of getting renovations carried out due to the shortage of trades people. This place has the worst customer service I have ever experience. we requested to cancel our room and get a refund 3 days in advance due to roads was closed because of forest fire. The office manger was so rude after over a month of me and my agent trying to get in touch with them. I advised that she had ignored our emails fir cancel and she said there is other ways in to the hotel which a month later was to late and after checking the other routes it was adding an extra 4 hours to my drive time. The office manger said I can give you a response to your cancel/refund request. The answer is NO very rude and not catering at all. Not a bad place to stay, not a great place to stay. This inn is only a couple of minutes down the road from the main touristy area of Winthrop. We got a room with 2 queen beds for one night for $89 and you get what you pay for. The room was pretty old fashioned and the walls are extremely thin. You get what you pay for. There was a small tv, a fridge, and a microwave. Because of COVID-19, there weren't comforters on the bed, so I'm glad I brought a sweatshirt. PLEASE READ BEFORE STAYING HERE!!!!Falsely advertised, overpriced, dirty, quickly thrown together, stinky, and just overall uncomfortable! Let me start by saying, I don't think I've stayed in many places that were worse than this. I don't mind getting by with the bare minimum when staying in hotels as long as the price is reflected in that. This place is NOWHERE near up to par for what we paid! We stayed in what we were told was a brand new room, freshly renovated, no one had slept in it before. Godspeed to anyone who dares to attempt to sleep in the rooms that haven't been done yet. My first issue was the smell that smacked me in the face the second I walked in and continued to linger throughout the whole stay. It was a mix between used month old gym socks and garbage that needed to be taken out a while ago. As I looked around the hallways leading to our room I found bugs everywhere in plain sight. Definitely no in depth cleaning going on in this place. Paint had been spilled and splattered across doors and new flooring. You can tell it was quickly thrown together. The room was small, not complaining, I don't need much space. The tv was tiny, my mom couldn't even tell what she watching from her bed, haha. Our two queen beds had disheveled white sheets, and only the sheets. I know it's summer but they had the air conditioning set to 64degrees, I'm gonna need a blanket! The walls were so paper thin that I could hear every move that people made in the entire wing we were in! I could hear every time the doors opened and closed to outside, I could hear every time someone got ice, I could hear every time someone used the restroom, every time someone talked, people snoring, literally everything. It was so uncomfortable because we felt like we had no privacy, people could hear every move we made. At this point we just wanted to get out of the building and go enjoy the pool that we had been hyping my 4 year old son up on for days. The pool that is advertised on your website, the promo emails being sent out, and the signage out front of your establishment. The cement around the pool is cracked and the land is pushed back away from the hotel and looks like it is about to crumble and cave in. It is empty except for the inch or two of green/black sludge in the bottom. So disappointing!!!! They are falsely advertising and don't care that it draws people in as long as they get their money. We BOOKED and PAID for two nights but ended up only staying one. We just couldn't take another night at that place. I read the reviews and kicked myself for not doing so in the first place. I didn't even bother with trying to get any money back after hearing about everyone else's horror stories with administration here. It was god awful. Please, please don't put yourself through it and stay literally anywhere else. My dad was raised in Winthrop and I've stayed many places here and this is the only one I've had an issue with. The Virginian Resort, Chewuch Inn and Cabins, and AbbeyCreek Inn are a few I've enjoyed, check out these places first PLEASE! Save your yourself, your checkbook, and your nose!! read more

This was horrible from the minute we parked. Pool was empty with weeds. Room was non smoking but smelled awful. We tried to find somewhere else to stay but everything was booked. Went to dinner, came back and saw a black, appleseed shaped bug on the pillow (which we saved and still have in a baggie). Decided this was the last straw and packed up and drove to Wenatchee. Stayed here w 10-09 thru 10-11 with dog in tote. We chose this hotel because it was pet friendly and they certainly were! Extra $30 for pet charge which was no problem. There was a large field leading down to the stream behind the hotel that was very nice for the dogs to play and get a good run in. The staff/owner was very accommodating will an extra blanklet request (beautiful quilt provided) and a coffee pot. Very clean and obviously careful during the pandemic times. Also provided us with a list of restaurants and establishments that are currently open. read more

Didn't get to stay there due to forest fire and closed route 20 in which was a requirement for us to meet our prepaid locations/events! Also it would be 5/6hr run around for us to just stay there (unable to access our north cascades destinations) due to road closures and the routes we had to use to make our trip work. This route was not closed until AFTER the cut off point of the hotel allowing refunds. This is considered a Natural Disaster ( the public has no control over this!) In cases like these refunds absolutely should be given! Life is expensive as is and to be out this much money($454) because they won't allow a refund even for natural disaster/"no detour " road closure, is absurd. All they see in you is money, they do not actually value you as a human being. They office manger was highly rude and unprofessional and talking down to me and even stated " I don't have time to help you, and when I do find the email that your booking company needs for me to confirm a refund for it will be a " NO" this conversation accrued Sep. 2, 2024. Also when you try to get up with the hotel either phone call/email they don't respond, hold the phone without answering and hang up, that is if the phone number even works/goes through. We tried to get up with them for almost a month awaiting response to emails from the booking company and phones from both them and us as well. What a dump! About the only positive thing I can say about this place is that the bed was comfortable. Wallpaper trim missing or torn from ceiling, Air conditioner was either on full blast (controls didn't make any difference) or, the only way to turn it off was to unplug it. Walls very thin so could hear neighbors next door, in the hallway, and up above us so sleeping was very difficult. Pet hair and dust on bottom shelf of bedstand, no window screen, Earwig on inside of shower curtain, sagging window blind in bathroom. Pool closed. Staff left earlier than scheduled. Hot tub wasn't covered when not in use so it was just a big bug bath. Pool was broken - we choose this place cause it had the best reviews WITH a pool. Things break and they are out of our control - but coupled with the bad smells and stained carpet - we weren't very happy. Edit- I wouldn't stay here again, but we got good sleep. It wasn't noisy and despite originally being skeptical of the bed, I truly slept well. We were so very disappointed when we got here, but all in all it wasn't terrible, it was just meh. read more

Talk about BARE BONES! The room was very tiny....my 6 foot tall husband had to duck to fit under the shower head....the bathroom itself was minute....no hair dryer in the room. The bed was King size and WAS comfortable but the only real positive thing I can say is that the room was very, very clean. Sadly, the pool was closed --something I wish we had been advised us BEFORE our trip AND we were told there was a complimentary breakfast BUT when we checked out shortly after 7 am not only was the Office still closed up but NO breakfast to be seen anywhere! We are a small family traveling from California. Our plan was to visit North Cascades National Park on 08/14/23 and drive from Burlington through hwy 20 and spend the night in Winthrop. Our plans had taken a turn as the Sourdough Fire closed many parts of the national park and hwy 20. We called to see if we could cancel our reservation as the fire was a natural disaster that was out of our control. The man who answered the phone was not willing to work with us. He states he could not refund our reservation as it was already paid for and states we can still get to Winthrop through other roads that were open. I explained to him our situation that we no longer were going to end up in Winthrop as the road was closed and that a detour to Winthrop would take us 5 hours instead of our previous 2 hours. He states he would have the manager call me back to discuss the situation if I was unhappy but that they were going to charge us for the night anyways. I never received a call back from the manager and we were charged full price for a reservation that we could not keep due to a fire and road closure that was out of our control. read more

We didn't get any sleep! The air conditioning is old and very loud, there are silent ones these days! When you're just about asleep the fridge compressor comes on with a bang and sounds like a boat's outboard engine! Topping everything off, the shower head leaked, dripping every second on a drum like plastic shower stall! Everything was just ok. The pool has been cracked for a year, and the hot tub was cold and full of bugs. The beds were pretty ok, but we felt like worms or bedbugs would attack us in the night. I think if they put some money back into the hotel they would be good. This is more of a on the way stop, not a destination. read more

We stayed there one night, June 9th, while completing a 6 day vacation as our last stop before home. The facilities are older and in need of some maintenance and updating. The room was small and made smaller by them trying to include all the usual amenities such as a refer and micro wave, two chairs, table, and lamp in a very small space. The walls are thin as the person next door was snoring and it sounded like he he or she was in the next bed! But, the worst part was our credit card was compromised and within a few days after getting home, we got three notifications of suspicious charges - $400, $700, and the third was for $2007.93. All were from New York and fraudulent and stopped but it's sure a pain to have a card closed and a new one issued and make notifications etc. This is the only business where we used this card that did not have PayPal payment. I violated my own rule in doing so and confidently believe this is where the breach came from. Lesson learned so be aware. I notified the "manager" through their web site via email of my credit card breach and a discrepancies in the billing and did get a response back but they did not address the breach at all. Listen- if you are looking for a dog friendly hotel then this is your spot. It's not fancy, it's not the cleanest place I've ever stayed. It's really not even very nice. BUT! My dog was allowed and it was cheap and close to town. They have a pool and river access and some gas grills at your disposal. The room has a TV from the late 90's with a VHS / DVD player. Meh. Whatever. WARNING! Do not stay in room 215. It is right next to the exit door and people expect that the door is going to be heavy and have a hydraulic on it- it doesn't. It's a light door and several times during our stay, somoene pushed the door and it slammed into the wall of our room and scared the be-jeezus out of all of us. It was OK for our first in Winthrop, and it'll be OK for yours too. But we're looking for a nicer place for our next trip. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights as a cheap base to cross country ski from. Wasn't expecting too much (its a cheap hotel, which is what i was looking for). Its dated but seems fairly clean. The walls and pillows are thin and we had frozen condensation (like, a lot of it) in our window. My friends fridge didnt work. But it was a reasonable base of operations and we slept fine. The hot tub is down. Sometimes it happens, but it was why I chose this place over any other affordable option and booked it a few months in advance. They didnt appear to have any eta for it to work or work in progress to get it up and running. The staff who checked us in didnt say anything about it until I asked where it was, after paying. I don't know how long its been down for, but if your main amenity is down for a long time, update your website and emails and cover it up on your front sign so people can cancel ahead of time if that's what they are looking for. They had a coffee service in the hallway with scones the last few mornings, which was a nice touch, but didnt have it this morning so it must be a sometimes thing. Overall, its fine, but there are cheaper options down the street without hot tubs. read more

Absolutely terrible. First of all no one communicated with us what happened. We had our room triple booked/ charged twice and staff was incredibly rude. My friend and I had two separate ppl get the code to our room and cone in at 6 and 10 pm. Staff and management did nothing about this. They also cancelled our reservation then recharged me. I was charged an $89 and then $99 rate. When I confronted the front desk in the morning about it the said management t is the knly one who can fix that. I asked to call management and she said "this is rural America he might not come in" totally inappropriate. I was angry and said so and she finally texted him. My friend and I felt unsafe/ had our privacy intruded in on twice/ then staffing basically made us feel like it wasn't a problem to get over it because we're in the country? Not ok. If you have a dog better to sleep in your car. Better to sleep on rocks than this place. read more

The pool and hot tub are NOT available due to covid, however they are still advertising both as amenities currently available. The pool and hot tub were the entire reason we chose The Winthrop Inn over several less expensive options, as we were staying overnight on possibly one of the hottest days of the summer. There was NOTHING about the pool closure on their own website, nor booking.com, nor any of the correspondence I had received from either booking.com OR the property. By the time we got there and saw that these amenities were unavailable it was too late to cancel and find some place else to stay. When we checked out the next day I asked for a partial refund since the pool was closed, there was not notifications about it, AND it was specifically why we chose to stay at this property. I did not state any specific amount, and I wasn't asking for a full room refund. The receptionist took my phone number and said the manager would call me. Four days went by and I had heard NOTHING from the manager, until I submitted a survey on booking.com. To which they stated they simply were not going to give us any amount of a refund. And they never apologized that they are misrepresenting the property, AND they still are deceiving people about the pool! read more

WARNING STOP!!! Put you credit card away. This place is terrible and not worth the price they are asking. They will also charge you ridiculous extra fees on your credit card. I attempted to contact the Winthrop Inn to get an explanation about these fees. I spoke to Maria, she was unable to explain the fees and reasoning behind them. I asked to speak with the manager, the manager was unavailable and I am still waiting to heard back... The carpet in our room was dirty and there was a musty/moldy smell. My reservation had 3 guest and I requested the roll out bed they advertise on there website and they did not have one available when we got there. They charged me $97 for bringing 2 dogs, there website says it only $15 per pet a night. I stayed 2 nights and notified them prior to my arrival I was bringing 2 dogs. They also offer complementary coffee and scones. The scones were old and stale. My son who eats anything with sugar in it, took one bite of the scone and threw it away. I was scared to drink the free coffee, after looking into the coffee maker in my room. The lighting is poor in the room, but there was either mold or just unwashed coffee strains inside the coffee maker. Either way I wasn't taking any chances. Anyway... the list of complains just goes on from here. When I left they charged me $100, because they said there was dog hair on the sheets and comforters. Heaven forbid they actually have to clean something!! I could have bought the an entire comforter set at Ross for $30, and it would have been better quality than the tired bedroom set they had. Geez this place needs new management. When I come to Winthrop with my family and dogs we usually stay at the Abby Creek Inn. They are great and I have never have a problem there. When I checked in the employee couldn't find my reservation but was able to set us up. 2 hours later I received a call from the hotel(where I was) to verify my reservations but I had already checked in. The next day I looked at my account & noticed they had double charged me. I called & the employee on the phone said it was charged for 2 separate reservations. I told her I booked 1 room for 1 night on Expedia. The girl who checked us in couldn't find my reservation so she made me a second reservation. She told me she would issue a refund. A week later they had not refunded me so I called, the employee told me that they didn't do anything about the refund but it would get taken care of. Another week goes by, they refunded me & then charged me again! Now 2 weeks later, I called a third time, when I started to explain who I was she responded, "yea I know who you are, my manager will call you today." Not the customer service I would expect to have when I'm trying to be patient for their financial mistake at my expense. By the end of the day the manager still had not called, so I called again. The manager told me that they refunded me twice that's why they charged me again. I told her there was 3 charges & only one refund showing up. She said I needed to check my records again. An hour later she called me back, she didn't see a second refund & would issue me another. I'm VERY disappointed how they handled everything. Nice bang for the buck. Clean room with fridge and microwave, nice shower, and a little balcony. Helpful staff. The environs are nothing special, but there is a nice picnic area and a clean propane barbecue, and a grocery store next door. The pool looked inviting. read more

If you like the sound of hot air ballons waking you in the morning this is the place. However I usually spend a couple nights a year here. It's always clean staff is great. They have coffee and muffins for breakfast. A nice little pool and hottub is a nice little addition. You can use a bbq if you wish to cook up your own meal.
