Room 4 was a great choice for one person, and would also be fine for a couple that doesn't require a king bed. Bed was firm but comfortable and had high-quality sheets. Wonderful inn with great customer service, the cleanest hotel room I have ever been in, access in the check-in area to dishes and other things like board games or cups. There is no kitchen area, you can ask for a toaster, and there is a small microwave and mini fridge but nowhere for food to sit or anything. If we ever come back, we will definitely stay here again. This is the sweetest little Inn in town! I am so glad I found this place and has been perfect for my stay. My room was ready for me when I arrived with my key and map to my room waiting for me. The room was clean, cozy, comfortable and just perfect. The Inn is located near town and is in a great location, and offers nice outdoor patio seating to enjoy watching the resident deer walk by. Had a great experience staying for a hockey tournament. Very clean and welcoming. The room was inviting and had an easy check in and check out process. My husband and I have stayed twice at the family owned and operated Mt. Gardner Inn this winter, and both times we had an excellent experience for a really affordable and competitive rate. The Inn is in Winthrop across the main drag from the Methow River. The majority of Winthrop shops are a short walking distance away on the footbridge, including our go-to coffee spot. Our first stay was 4 weeks ago; we were in Quail Room in the back building and our friends were in Room 4 in the main building. This most recent stay, we were in Room 3. Quail Room on the main floor of the back building is adorable and we would highly recommend it--while the standard rooms are spotlessly clean and are well equipped with a mini coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge (and happen to be more spacious overall than the deluxe rooms), the deluxe rooms also have a patio or balcony and a larger bathroom suite. We had deer grazing outside our window each day, and while we haven't stayed here in the summer we can picture how pleasant it would be to sit on the patio on warm nights. Every night's sleep has been perfectly restful. Despite the Inn's convenient location there is no street noise from the rooms. The Inn has completely contactless check in and check out during Covid times. I booked through their website, which also happened to have the best prices. The communication with the owners is excellent--they responded within mere minutes of texting or calling during our stay. We are happy to support this comfortable and excellently run inn in our beloved Methow Valley. Would highly recommend for a no-fuss stay as your base for Nordic skiing , hiking, or fishing. read more

What an adorable place! We had a great experience. This family-run hotel had really comfortable beds and lots of pillows! (Seven on each bed!) It was very clean and we were pleasantly surprised to discover a microwave and mini-fridge in the room as well. Seems very recently remodeled and everything was clean. I especially liked the sink area being separate from the shower/toilet. I'd stay there again if I decide to go back to Winthrop! read more

Had a great stay at the Mt. Gardner Inn. Location is great, right across the bridge and not far from anything. Check-in process was painless. Room was the perfect size and comfortable. These rooms are not fancy, but we certainly didn't care. Room had a microwave, good coffee (Seattle's Best), and a fridge/freezer combo. The whole place was very kid and family friendly. There is a great common area for lounging around or BBQ'ing and the whole facility is in excellent shape. It is really hard to beat these guys on price alone. Their rates are very reasonable and more important it is a local small business. We will definitely be staying here again! read more

The owners were very helpful accommodating our kayaks and bicycles while we were here. The WIFI was faultless while I worked for 4 biz days between weekends while my husband continued to fish & play. The bed was very comfortable, the fridge was good sized. Winthrop is a great base for mountain biking and river activities in the summer. Very nice small hotel. The rooms we stayed in on the ground floor were newly remodeled and quite nice. The Inn is owned by a family living on site which makes for a friendly experience. Both of our rooms had large flat screen TVs with would could plug a portable DVD player into. A DVD player was the one thing lacking in the room, they're under $50 now so there's really no excuse for not providing one. I would stay here again on my next trip to Winthrop. read more

Reasonably priced and relatively new charming inn, we called that morning (at the end of February) and reserved a room. Apparently they don't do much business this time of year, because they gave us a free upgrade to a slightly nicer room. Tons of down pillows and plenty of blankets made everything quite cozy as we watched the snow fall outside. The only drawback was we couldn't hook up our laptop to the TV to watch movies. GREAT inn. Brother and I spent a night in Winthrop on a Cascade Loop trip. I had booked the room online several weeks prior. Upon arriving after 6pm rang the service bell on the counter and short time later were greeted by the owner who had been out gardening. Beautiful gardens on the grounds by the way. She was incredibly nice and personable. Stayed in the Grouse room which is upstairs in the middle of the back building. Not huge by U.S. standards but it is large enough and extremely clean. Beds are large and comfortable. TV is a large flat panel with good selection of channels. By the way in response to another reviewer who complained about the lack of channel guide...we found an on-screen channel guide on one of the low numbered channels. Easy. In addition to the TV channels there are a ton of audio-only channels. Decor is great. Check out their website for pics of the decor in each room...each one is different and I picked the Grouse room as it seems the most masculine. Good sized balcony that overlooks the front courtyard, gardens, neighboring properties, and the mountains beyond. The A/C worked great, helped to drown out our snoring (family curse). There is a small fridge and microwave. There is free WiFi - see instructions in the room if needed. Worked perfectly for both of us. Bathroom is great. Good lighting, large mirror, good size toilet. The shower head is up high, which my 6 foot 3 brother appreciated. Everything is so CLEAN. Deer are everywhere in and around Winthrop. Saw a deer in the evening and in the morning just from our room. Also enjoyed watching the acrobatic birds. The inn is a good walk from town, I suspect most people would want to take a quick drive down instead. There are some restaurants close by the Inn and the grocery store is very close. My previous stays in Winthrop have been at the Hotel Rio Vista - also a great place - but will definitely stay here again. read more

This place really does live up to the good reviews. My husband and I (along with our 2 dogs) stayed in room 4 at the Mt. Gardner Inn for 3 nights over Thanksgiving. The customer service is unprecedented. Alison was helpful, available, and full of suggestions for restaurants and activities, even though we were there on a holiday. I really can't say enough about the customer service. I feel like we were treated above and beyond any level of expected service, the owners work extremely hard to keep the guests happy and it shows. Overall thoughts on the Inn were also great. The location is super convenient, our room was really quiet and perfect for us and the dogs. The room we stayed in was a traditional motel setup with a kitchenette, but updated and obviously taken care of. The place was SPOTLESS. There wasn't a stain or patched nick anywhere! We will definitely stay here again and spread the word. The customer service and price are unbeatable. read more

My husband and I have been staying here regularly during ski season for years. This winter we did a 7-night stay in January and another 7-night stay in February. For the first visit, we were in Pheasant, which is in the back building on the lower level, and we were in room 4 (front building, back side) on the second trip. The beds were extremely comfortable in both rooms. Room 4 has more space since there is only one bed. One reason we love this place is that I can walk to the town trailhead (approximately 1/3 mile), so I can go skiing whenever I want to. It's a longer, but very pleasant, walk into town. The beautiful Barnyard Cinemas is right next door, and we have seen several movies there since it opened. read more

I love this little spot. I have stayed here almost every year for over a decade with my pup. This peaceful little inn is on the edge of town, yet a short beautiful walk over the bridge to the restaurants and shops. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are cozy. We had never stayed in Winthrop before, and wanted a place close to town without being in the middle of traffic. We chose the Mt. Gardner Inn and it was a fantastic find! Very unassuming from the street, but our room (Grouse) was updated, comfortable, absolutely clean and perfect for our needs. Plenty of amenities available from the office, too: wine glasses, bagged or buckets of ice, free DVD movies. Beds were oh, so comfortable, with plenty of hot water in the shower. Weather was unseasonably warm during our stay, but the A/C unit quietly kept us nice and cool. We highly recommend! read more

We stayed here with our family and dog and absolutely loved it! The room was clean, nicely decorated and had nice coffee and natural shampoo/soap dispenser. Stayed there 5/12/2011. Booked the room on line, and on arrival told she (perhaps the owner) had upgraded us to a better room. Doubtful. All the comments in the guest comment book said the same thing. IT appears the difference between standard and deluxe is deluxe has 'rough hewn' wood furniture. The chairs are not comfortable. The beds were terrific, with no apparent bugs. The tv worked, but there was no channel guide. Tell me, how many of you spend the evening without some TV. And the owners don't watch TV so they don't have channel guides or provide info on how to find standard channels. So why is there a TV in the room??? Small room, small bath, door to little patio does not have double lock-sort of unsecure. Why the deadbolt on the main door and not on the other. Had a clock/radio/cd player that couldn't be set by a relatively intelligent adult-and we didn't have a 13 yr old available. Niggly but still.... Will I stay there again? Probably not. read more

Great place, even if only for a night. I would definitely stay longer though. We arrived late but Alison was prepared for our arrival. We stayed in the Pheasant room on the first floor. It was neat, clean, cozy, and comfortable. The rest of the grounds were also nice and quiet, and there are a couple restaurants within easy walking distance (we went to Arrowleaf Bistro for dinner, and 3 Bears for breakfast). It's a short drive to the rest of town, and overall great place to rest before exploring the North Cascades. read more

Rudy, my pup, and I had a nice weekend in Winthrop staying at Mt Gardner Inn. The location was perfect. We could walk to town and over the two foot bridges for long walks each morning. The ground floor room was ideal for taking Rudy out for his pees before bed time. The owner was helpful and welcoming. The room was comfy. I used the fridge and microwave for our food. A stop at TJ's before leaving Seattle supplied me with most of the food I needed. Only comment is that the fan/heater was loud (white noisey); however, this was also a good thing since it blocked out outside noises, that were causing Rudy to bark. So it managed that! This was my first trip with a dog in a hotel. It was a great one, that we booked another long weekend at the Mt Gardner Inn! read more
