We did a half day walk and wade trip with Josh out of Winter Park Flyfisher on the Colorado River. He is patient and highly knowledgeable as it was my wife's first time ever trying fly fishing. Stopped in the shop and got my wife some rental waders and boots for the trip and the staff were very helpful. Great looking shop! Caught some beautiful CO browns and a 20" rainbow. I visited my son in Winter Park for a few days and didn't know anything about the area. The guys in the shop were nice enough to point me in a good direction for where to fish and what to throw. Enjoyed the wading in the area! Took a drift boat trip down the Colorado and was a wonderful experience. Zack was excellent and we connected with really nice browns on dry flies and I missed a few on streamers. Shore lunch was great and relaxing! Definitely the real deal! read more

We were enjoying a family vacation the 2nd week in July at Winter Park and decided to book a drift boat trip for my son and myself on the Colorado River with our guide Ross Kaslow. I have many years of experience with a fly rod and trout fishing, my son this was his first outing with a fly rod. Ross was very patient in pointing out the use of the rod and truth be told I learned a thing or two. Ross's skill with his oarsmanship and approach to safety was 2nd to none. Needless to say, the beauty of the mountains and river added to the experience along with the many browns and a nice rainbow that were brought to boat and released. My son learned many tips during the day and caught several browns along the way. We were in town for my son's mountain bike race and I took the opportunity to go on a guided fly fishing trip. Josh Frank was the guide that was assigned to me and he did an excellent job. Josh chose a public section of the Colorado that he thought was a better choice than paying for private access and it turned out to be a great choice. There was just the 2 of us on the water; we saw no one else the whole day! I have dry fly fished previously (self taught) and had no clue how to nymph fish. I was so happy that Josh patiently explained and illustrated to me the proper technique to cast and drift nymphs. It took me a while but eventually with Josh picking the right nymphs and my presentation improving I caught fish! I landed 8 or 9 brown trout and a rainbow. Oh yeah I did get one on a dry fly. Also I missed a few good ones that were bigger than the pic shown (next time). I was having a great time and I wanted to extend my 6 hour trip to 8 and Josh was up for it. Really happy to have had this experience and couldn't ask for a better guide. Highly recommend and ask for Josh to guide you! read more

We are 3 newbie fly fishermen from out of state. Found out about the big snow melt shortly before coming to Fraser and were concerned about the impact on fishing. Recently, I found this to be a wonderful, full service fly fishing shop. In my first trip to the Granby-Fraser-Winter Park area, my first stop for flies, leader and tippet was the Winter Park Flyfisher. When we visited, the desk was manned by Nelson Oxley who was busy with other customers. This allowed us to shop and enjoy the broad breadth of gear, waders, boots, flies, line, hats, shirts and other swag. In addition, we discovered they can hook you up with an experienced fly fishing guide for walking or float trips. When Nelson got to us, he (with a couple of years of guiding locally) patiently recommended seasonally relevant flies, both leader and tippet of the correct thicknesses, and other super helpful products for my fly bag. For extra credit, he even helped me by providing me with a great map of local public fishing locations AND by tying my leader, tippet and drop- fly configuration on my new 5wt. rod. I was ecstatic! As a new flyfisher visiting this fishing hotspot, I found it incredibly valuable to leverage his local knowledge and expertise. Highly recommended! read more

My Father and I had the chance to go out with Jeff and spend a day fly fishing on the river. Jeff was AMAZING! Knew the river inside out and kept us in hot spots all day long. We had almost zero experience and ended up catching 9 total fish on a day that most people were getting skunked. He brought everything we needed to have a successful day.. Went out with Zack earlier this week on a guided fly fish adventure. When he had called to set up time to meet, I wanted to go on a hike or more private experience instead of a more public/crowed area. He didn't disappoint at all! Yes, there was a good drive involved, but for someone who isn't able to make it to this part of the country as much as I would like, I'm game for whatever. We hiked a good bit, waded through some good flowing parts of the upper Colorado river in some truly spectacular settings up in Big Gore Canyon. Zack knows his stuff and would highly recommend him. Caught three beautiful fish, brown, rainbow and a white trout in a few hours. Also, they provided all the awesome gear necessary so you don't get wet, unless you totally eat it and fall in, then you're on your own and that's why you sign a waiver haha! read more
