We just happened to be driving up to Grand Lake to do a scenic drive around this gorgeous lake and came across this go karting place that my kids wanted to try out! It's a mom and pops kind of place, which we totally LOVE to support especially when it has a story w/ a BIG heart behind it. Check in was super easy, they give you tokens for go karting or bumper cars. Since it's a small place, the wait didn't take too long. Our family of 6 was able to rent 3 doubles and raced each other. The crisp fresh air and the view of mountains in the background made it even more special. The carts ran very smoothly, the exhaust weren't smoky like alot of places, and they even make it fun by pouring out buckets of water to make the grounds slippery during the ride.. felt like we were on Mario Karts. ;) For the bumper cars, I can tell the owner controlled some parts to make us spin just to give us a good laugh. I loved that! Just observing the place, I can tell there was so much labor of LOVE put into this wholesome fun fun fun place. There was a repair shop with a cart hanging waiting to be restored with lots of tools hanging - the owner must be a super handy man. This past weekend marked 20th year anniversary for Rocky Hi Speedway and we had the priviledge of meeting the owner! Such a friendly guy and my obervation were all correct. Sad to see this place up for sale since it hasn't gotten much foot traffic, but gathering from our convo I felt like he would love to keep it running. Therefore, I would like to put this place on the map and give a special shout out to the guy who put all his heart and time into building this place! We found the park by accident, driving straight up through downtown Winter Park. Situated right in the heart of the shopping district, Hideaway is hidden from whom exactly? Bears in the woods? Posh skiiers in their $500,000 condos? It certainly isn't from the road, set back slightly from the crosswalk and sinking back deep. The play equipment is in great shape and nicely durable, not the sort of ancient metal slide that scalds little thighs and calves or the monkey bar prisons parents dread because we have no way to extricate our children without being accused of violating the Geneva Convention. Of course, we're violating it allowing our little one to be the prisoner of Metallialand. Plentiful benches and perches give adults a spot to watch the entertainment, and impromptu lunch from one of the many cafes nearby are very easily done. I enjoyed this little spot while we were here. It was tidy and open, though I did have to chase down my little one a few times to keep him from playing in traffic. Barring that hazard, it's a great spot the locals clearly get to enjoy.

If your kids are not old enough to go skiing, snowboarding, or tubing, this is a great introduction to the snow. I have brought my kids here when they were toddlers... and now that they are older, they still don't mind coming here. FREE Sledding?! Yup! You can bring your own sled, but if you don't have one, they have free sleds to use, and the most recent visit had tubes too! I'm not sure if they just provide these sleds/tubes for people to use and/or if people choose to leave their sleds kind of like a donation. We actually left our sled there. We figured that we've been blessed with this place with free sleds/tubes and a fun sledding hill, so we might as well pay it forward. Besides, we live in Denver... and there isn't that much snow to go sledding often. Although the signs say a certain age limit...adults and kids of all ages were going down the sledding hill. This really is a fun place. Our most recent trip to Winter Park consisted of coming here 2 days in a row. When you have kids that are old enough to ski/snowboard/tubing, but you don't want to pay the lift fees and/or rentals this place is a great alternative. Besides the sledding hill, there is a playground for the kids to play.... and you can stay warm by the fire pit. Bring your own hot cocoa, tea, or coffee. Also, Pokémon Go players... there are several stops and a gym here :) If you're looking for an inexpensive place to have fun... this is the place.

They have an entire campus and are very family-friendly, I could see a family spending their whole day here if they wanted to! Day passes here are such a great value ($25 per adult and $10 per child over 5) regardless if you're a YMCA member elsewhere. The pass included the following with no extra fee for rentals: tubing, ice skating, roller skating. We also could have paid extra for climbing wall ($6), archery ($6), flat tire bikes ($20), etc...but you have to schedule that ahead of time. I was really glad we came here because it was plenty of entertainment for the family and we didn't have to plan how long we'd do each activity because there were so many options all in the same campus. If you were to go tubing elsewhere it would cost $30 per person PER HOUR, so I'm glad we came here instead where there wasn't a limit to how long we did the activity for. You have to sign waiver forms first and you can pick two different sizes for tubes. You'll have to take the tubes back up the hill yourself so keep that in mind if you have little ones or are planning to do this activity first vs. last.

But the lodgings have become increasingly disgusting in the last few years. We stayed in one of the cabins. You could smell the pet urine when you walk in. The bathroom floors were stained ?? and obviously not mopped. The carpets dusty. The microwave started to actually spark. We called the front desk for someone to come take a look or replace it...no one came. Needless to say, we left earlier than planned. It's obvious that the cabins have been neglected. I understand and empathize that there is a staffing shortage. But - Next year, we'll get more comfortable, cleaner lodgings in Fraser/winter park.

I heard about Trestle from many friends and how great it was. My first reason for recommendation is that it offers a lot of terrain; nearby bike park Granby Ranch only has 24 trails and one lift, while Trestle offers 63 trails and 3 lifts. My second reason is convenience to Denver; it's only one hour and thirty-two minutes away. Making it perfect for day trips, another benefit is that it is well before Idaho Springs (a town notorious for traffic). My final reason for recommending this experience is its superiority to the other popular bike park, Breckenridge. From my experience, I found it to be crowded due to the excessive amount of tourists and other mountain activities. Another critical issue with Breckenridge is that the lifts all start at the base, meaning that you are forced to battle the crowds at the base every time you wish to go up. As Trestle has two lifts on the mountain. I would recommend this experience to a novice biker with experience mountain biking beforehand. Due to the amount of advance trails. Some things to know are that the opening dates can vary for the season.The location is Winter Park resort. The ticket price is $70 USD. Season passes are offered. You should buy one if you are going for more than one week.I would not go on a holiday weekend due to heavy I-70 traffic.
