    Knuckle meat
    Tenzin G.

This place is super cozy, amazing service and DELICIOUS food. I got the knuckle meat and the meat was extremely tender and just absolutely melted into your mouth and slid off the bone. The sauce or gravy that was on the meat and potatoes was so so yummy. This place was a perfect little winstub and if I'm back in Strasbourg 100% would come back! It's a small space inside but perfectly cozy. However...the dessert was not good...don't recommend. You'd be better off going somewhere else.

    Onion pie and salad

We saw this little restaurant on our walk around the Cathedral area of Strasbourg and decided to go in based on favorable yelp reviews, the quaint atmosphere and because the sign outside advertised onion soup -- a favorite of one person in our group. The food and service exceeded our expectations from start to finish. The French bread that was served with our starters was fresh baked and delicious (we San Franciscan's have high standards). My bratwurst was the best I've ever had and was accompanied by sauerkraut so delicious that it that redefines sauerkraut. The onion pie, onion soup, salad with goat cheese and other dishes enjoyed by our group were all delicious. The coffee at the end of our meal was an unexpected delight. We feel so lucky to have come across this lovely little restaurant -- which is also frequented by locals, as we discovered. Merci'

There IS outdoor seating. They ARE English speaking. We had lovely wines, escargot, and an onion tart. Everything was fantastic. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews. Service was great - it is European - you just have to ask for what you want.

We had a lovely lunch here with friendly service and AC, which was very welcome during the heatwave. We had the meatballs and a filet of beef, both tasty and filling. A carafe of wine was affordable (17 euro). The meal was expensive for lunch but we ate the equivalent of a dinner portion so in context was reasonable (69 euro for two entrees and a 50cc carafe of wine). The dining room was quaint and charming. Maybe a tad touristy but still a good stop.

My in-laws wanted to take me out for an "authentic" dinner so we went for some sauerkraut since we were in Strasbourg. I got the classic, husband got the next one up, and papa in law got the same as me. Mama in law got a fish dish so hers came out on it's on plate. Ours on the other hand came out in one large dish heaping with various meats and potatoes and a ton of sauerkraut! I don't know if it was worth the extra money for what my husband got since it really was just an extra piece of pork. There was definitely too much food but I topped off my meal with a rum dessert that sent me over the top. This is not for the faint of heart or someone with heart issues. I must have walked out of there consuming over 2000 calories. Don't forget to try some of the Alsace wines while there, yum!

I decided to eat dinner at Winstub Le Clou because it came highly recommended in two different travel books (Wallpaper City Guide and Lonely Planet.) The restaurant is fairly small and they had almost no business this evening. (The chef and staff where even sitting at a table eating.) They put all of the customers at the first three day tables. I was seated at a table with two other girls who where friends and obviously wanted to have a private conversation. Then, the male employees seated a lady in an oversized wheelchair behind me. She was so close to me and the tables where so crowded, I had to sit straight up to the table to eat. I could not even push my chair out to put on my coat on or pay the bill. My best friend is also in an oversized-chair so I am very sensitive to others' needs but the entire rest of the restaurant was completely empty...there was no need to crowd all of the customers together into three tables...no need!! I am sure the customer in the wheel chair would have also appreciated more room and not have someone crowded in behind her. I felt like this restaurant is use to dealing with the cruise-ship crowds where they just turn and burn tables. The waiter never really came to check on anyone...they took your order and served the food. The menu did not have any wine sold by the glass. I believe in pairing regional food with regional wine. The waiter had suggested a local Pinot Noir...it was sweet and absolutely disgusting...I could not even drink it. It was horrific!!!! I left the entire glass on the table and he did not even ask about it. This city is full of winstubs, small restaurants, and brasseries with rustic decor. I understand stammtisch or communal tables but this was not friendly nor necessary on a very cold February night. The food is traditional heavy Alsatian dishes such as pork knuckle and sauerkraut. My veal was alright...nothing extraordinary. The decor was also traditional. I walked back to the hotel and passed many other gorgeous restaurants wishing I would have eaten somewhere else for dinner. I could not leave this restaurant fast enough. The experience still haunts me. I can't recommend this restaurant. I was very disappointed. There are so many other great restaurants on the island and in Petite France...I recommend you choose another restaurant.

winstub (wine room) is to Alsace what the tavern is to England, bierhaus to Germany. le Clou was recommended by locals i know and packed each time visited. eat here: salade strasbourgeoise w/ gruyère, cervelas (sausage) in oniony vinaigrette, presskoph (head cheese), côtes de porc and quenelles de foie - liver, bacon, spices wrapped in knepfle (fresh pasta) first boiled, then fried in butter - taste wow. if you haven't noticed yet, alsatians glorify pork. as do I.

The choucroute doesn't photograph particularly well, but it is absolutely delicious. Would not hesitate to come back here for a meal.

Delicious. Great service even though we walked in pretty late. I highly recommend the hot pot

This restaurant is now going to be haunting me in my dreams it was that good . First off, the onion tart is crack. The perfect crust with fluffy eggs and onions and bacon. I would say generally I'm not the biggest fan of quiches, but the onion tart is a must. Then we had the white asparagus special with a soft boiled egg and lentils with the most flavorful dressing ever. I was with my two daughters and wife and we split the onion tart and asparagus special as an appetizer, and literally a fight almost broke out among us. Then we split the steak, pork filet and potato pancakes. Just absolutely delicious. My older daughter does not like salad and she actually couldn't believe she liked the side salad that came with her steak. Not the lame iceberg bagged salad mix you get it some restaurants. This was frise, endive and radicchio in a vinaigrette that was spot on. Best french fries ever as a side on the pork fillet. Incredible home fries as the side on the steak. I wish I would've taken photos to post, but the dishes were getting destroyed as soon as they came out. We had the rhubarb pie as a dessert and Panna cotta. We are coming back tomorrow for lunch and getting the asparagus and tart again. It was that good.

My husband had choucroute garnie and I had chicken with Munster sauce, a very interesting dish. The house wine and cremant were wonderful. We can't say enough about this homey restaurant if a person is looking for nontouristy, local food and vibes.

And when your walking tour guide tells you a fun story about a Michelin-starred restaurant and it's interesting name, you decide to take yourself there. I haven't been to a Michelin-starred restaurant in a very long time and I have never been to one alone, but it was still a lovely experience. The staff was very attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was inventive and enjoyable, though I admit I had a hard time understanding the waitstaff sometimes, so I wasn't always sure what I was eating, but luckily I'm willing to eat anything. I had the discovery menu (appetizer, fish, entree, dessert), 3-course wine pairing, coffee, and the restaurant's "extras" which included some very tasty amuse bouche at the beginning, small desserts with the coffee, and even a cookie to take a home. I did not order from the cheese cart, but it was fun to watch it wheeled out for others. For a Michelin restaurant, I found it very reasonably priced and accessible, though I'm not sure I can say I was completely blown away by the food (wine was fantastic, though). But I did see the crocodile! Which is where the restaurant gets it's name: in the 1800s a sailor came back from Egypt with a stuffed crocodile and had the bright idea to use it as a marketing (who wouldn't want to see a stuffed crocodile?!?)

Such a beautiful restaurant! Amazingly friendly service! And of course delicious food!…read more We were in town for the Christmas market, so it was fun to take a break from being outside and eating mostly from food vendors. We came in for lunch and went with the market menu they were offering. We also ended up adding a cheese course, because when in France! Can't say no to cheese! I don't know if it's the primacy effect, but I loved the first course. It was like a little egg soup dish. So warm and hearty, it was just comforting. Everything else was good too, but the cheese was a major highlight for me. The waiter selected a sampling of cheeses for us from a huge cheese cart. It was fun to watch and see all the cheeses on display.
