It's harder to find a better place for a typical Alsatian meal while in Strasbourg than Lohkas. Located in "La Petite France" (you know, the picturesque part of the city that all of the tourists use the heart emoji eyes to caption on their Instagram . . . not that I'm speaking from experience or anything . . .), it will provide you with the delicious meal in a cozy ambience that you have been hoping to have while in this part of the world.
I visited on a recent trip to Strasbourg after a long day of wandering around the city. I told my friend, who hails from nearby, that I needed a "typical Alsatian meal" while I was there, especially the "choucroute". "Essaie la choucroute," my high school French dialogue had exhorted me. "C'est une specialte d'Alsace." 20 years after listening to that dialogue track, I finally did.
The service was attentive and brisk. We started with Escargots (divine, especially with some bread to sop up the herby, garlicky butter!) and then I got my Choucroute with 6 types of sausage. The choucroute did not disappoint, and I can recommend that you try it as well while in Alsace. The sausage was the perfect temperature, flavorful, and hit the spot.
The restaurant itself is in a sunken dining room (probably was an old cellar at one point but it is so cozy and warm and intimate), and you feel like you're dining at a friend's house while you're there. It's the perfect spot to cap off your day in Strasbourg! read more
