Good move on our part...the menu is one of those that you can't decide what to order because everything sounds great! I went with the bacon wrapped Salmon, and my co-worker chose the prime rib special. Both were excellent choices, and the side choice of mac and cheese was the bomb! We met the owner, Jeff, while there, and we immediately felt like we were old friends and regulars from "way back". Ok so, glad I tried this place out!, Came here on lunch with a buddy of mine today. The location is nice, Very bar like, clean, good lay out and it was busy which is a good thing. We sat down and were greeted very quickly, drink orders taken and we began looking over the menu, good well rounded menu, I want to come back for some of these items but id say it looks promising. We got some wings to try them out, honestly if I see wings on the menu to a new place, most of the time ill try them. 8$ for 10 wings, kind of pricy but whatever, we got Jamaican jerk and HOT. My friend ordered the French Dip sandwich, with Potato salad, I got the Philly Sub (beef) with cole slaw. Glancing over I saw that they have happy hours M-F 2pm to 8PM 2$ domestic bottles drafts or well drinks, good to know Wings came out, not that eventful, overly sauced, Looks like they were boiled and then fried, and sauced after. This is typical of most places that don't specialize in wings and I wont let it affect my review because honestly, it's kind of just a perk that they serve them. So skip the wings and pick up something else like the Cajun Ahi tuna bites a guy was wolfing down across from us, he seemed happy, either that or he had not eaten in days, who knows! So wing's were a bust, but I still had high hopes, I got a replacement diet coke before my other was finished, attentiveness. A+. Our lunch orders came out, with a pickle on the side. First thing that I need to say is, if you love good bread... this place has it, not sure if they use the same loaf on all sandwiches, but they should because it was awesome sauce. The taste of this bread will make you happy ,like Gallagher in a fine china store.... The bread was crispy and full of flavor, made the whole sandwich, perfect compliment to the cheesy Philly steak sub I got and my friends French Dip which he said "its good bread man" after a big bite. Its that nook and cranny kind of bread that holds your cheesy melted snack together and forms the perfect food vessel to feed you like a "hungry hungry hippo", ahhh childhood memories. My cole slaw was forgettable, way to watery and not much flavor, I prefer a thick cut, thicker sauce slaw that holds the mayo and such into it and is not runny. SO id skip this if you have high slaw standards (HSS, for those that like acronyms). My friends potato salad was great he mentioned, right thickness and creaminess. Prices were decent, Sandwich, and a drink were about 12$. Will I be back to Winston's? You bet your ass I will. Should you go check it out? This is a hole in the wall little homey joint. This place reminds me of the little local dive bars back home. It was full of Locals here too. Everyone knew each other's names. Great classic rock playing. People just genuinely enjoying each other's company and having a great time. The drinks were great priced. Our waitresses was so friendly and very attentive. The food looks amazing here. We didn't eat but we saw other people's plates and we wish we would've came here for dinner too. It's bar food but it looks delicious. We came on St Pattys day so they had the place decorated and everyone wore green. It was a great time. We def will be coming back here to have a bite to eat and PARTAAAAYYY!!! I always like to visit a place about 2 or 3 times before I go public with my comments. Normally the more consistent the experience the Higher I go with my rating. I'm all for a locals spot and this place is the epitome of a locals spot. My boyfriend heard the wings here were legit and you only have to tell me once and I'm there. We were sat pretty quickly and given menus to check out. They've got your standard American food selection as well as some international flair thrown in. We decided to go with 2 orders of wings and and an order of lumpia. The lumpia was nice and crispy and the sauce wasn't bad. So gold star there. To switch it up I ordered just plain wings and the Parmesan garlic, extra crispy of course and My boyfriend got one of their special sauces that I can't remember the name of. Now I'm not sure if it was because I ordered them extra crispy but I found the wings to be a little dry. The garlic parm they had was more of a dry rub vs a sauce and it didn't really provide much flavor. I asked them to bring me a side of buffalo sauce to pour on the wings and that did the trick. Now my boyfriend loved his so much he ordered a second order. Though I wouldn't take much stock in that as he has the pallet of a toddler!! I did take one of his wings to try since he was raving about them. The sauce tasted like a cross between soy sauce and bbq sauce. Not bad just not for me. The service was just ok. We went on Halloween so they were getting ready for a party and you can tell the servers were a little distracted. Ours forgot my boyfriends drink and that happens. I've always seen the place but never thought to come in until my friend told me about their happy hour. I believe it's from 5-8 daily which is a pretty good deal. Drinks are very cheap and they usually have a seasonal drink available. The outside isn't much and the inside is very quaint. We had a party of size and there's really only one table that would accommodate us. The bar is usually packed so if you try to get a spot you'll have to get there early. They also have daily meal specials going on which look pretty good. The only thing I've eaten there is the potato soup which was pretty good. My friend got the steam shrimp they had on special and said she would order again. I will admit, the only issue I've had is with the servers. The first time I came our waitress was nice and personable. The next few times we've been our waitress was not so great. She had a pretty flat attitude and was pretty harsh in setting our drinks down. She actually kept sliding them down to the other people or she would slide some other stuff we asked for. It's a pretty good place but just know it gets crowded and service isn't always the best. read more

We were in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake and looked thru different restaurants on the phone when we decided to try Winston's Cafe. It was tucked out of the way, in a strip mall, but that wasn't going to deter us. It should have, my son had the "build a burger" with mushrooms. Dry roll, overly well done meat with maybe 2 mushrooms. The wife had fish tacos over rice pilaf, maybe 3 squares of fish in a soggy taco over a hardened rice cake. My Classic Club was presented with barely toasted loaf bread, a slice of Canadian bacon, a thin slice of cheese and indistinguishable whitish meat. It was tucked in between 2 large tough lettuce leaves and thick slabs of tomato. Service was slow and surly, had to ask for catsup for the fries, The catsup was the best tasting item we tried. I must say, it's been a while since eating here but it was definitely not the same as it was before. The vibe was still the same Winton's and the live music was nice but the food was very poor quality. My S/O and I started with their ahi tuna bites which were still delicious like before but the sauce they came with was not at all appetizing and we both ordered their parmesan crusted ribeye special. The steak was to be 12oz and it was either falsely weighed out or it was weighed with the parmesan "sauce" (not at all crusted) because there was no way the steak itself was even close to that. It tasted like a frozen Omaha steak! Ordered it medium rare and it was too thin for it to be cooked to order. Both came out well done. The sides were green beans and potatoes which also tasted frozen then thawed and heated. I was so hungry from not being able to eat much today so I finished my plate. It was not completely terrible but I am pretty disappointed in the quality for the price. I wish I had taken a picture :( read more

I need to stop go here so frequently so I still like it a month from now. This has been put in the regular rotation for lunch destinations and it is always very popular. The space is not the largest eatery and one of those Goldilock's "just right" sized in busyness vs. overwhelmed for the staff. The chefs are busy but not overworked and the two servers and manager they have are fast and polite. They have about 10 booths and a few tables in the back they can push together for the occasional large group. Also, on the other side of the wall closest to the kitchen are a few scattered high tops. I have not taken in the night life here yet so this is completely based off of lunch. "The Good" - I went here a few times over the past few weeks. The stand out was a very surprising Tuna Melt last Friday. It was a special and almost overlooked for a salad, yay Meatless Fridays. But when I asked what it was the server explained that it was a tuna steak on... I politely interrupted and said I would have that as my vision of a Tuna Melt was a scoop of Tuna-fish Salad on toast. I lucked out, it was beyond good. The tuna was cooked to order and I went with it a little more cooked rather than the seared and pink due to the fact that the raw(ish) tuna and the Swiss that would be cohabitating with it did not really seem appetizing to me. From the group that ate, the burgers are good, the salads are good. It seems like its a decent spot to hit up for lunch and it is. - They have a few daily specials that are just as good if not better than the normal menu. - They have oranges for my Sweet Tea. - The servers are very fast, I think the one has a few cups of coffee before the rush, she flys back and forth down the aisle. - The food is consistently good. - The manager actually works. This may seem normal but you would be surprised. She takes empty plates and refills drinks when its busy. "The Meh" - There is no real pedestrian cross walk from the parking lot rows to the stores in this area. You have to take your life in your hands, I mean trust the VA drivers. not their fault, but their problem. "The Bad" - Nope nuttin bad. read more

I had to go here, the name reminded me of a soccer ball that we all fell in love with, kinda, add a L and remove a n and t. It was a Friday night around 6:30 and there was no waiting for a booth, and it's a smallish place. This made me a bit nervous. Our server was delightful. Everything we ordered she replies, "that's my favorite". So cute, however she could recite every ingredient in the specials and what we ordered. Did I mention the $2.00 beer and WELL drinks? Oh, yeah, and they aren't stingy on those well drinks. We started with the loaded chips. They are home made deep fried potato chips with cheesiness and old bay. Very yummy and not heavy like potato skins. Then hub had the French onion soup ( I warned her that he would send it back if it wasn't HOT.) It was hot but not so good. The broth was thin and pretty much tastless. The piece of bread under the cheese was also without flavor and was mushy, not toasted. My house salad was quite nice, dark greens, cukes, red onion....why am I typing this? Look at the pic. After a few minutes my salmon oscar and his French dip came out, well we saw it leave the grill top, the chef and his kitchen are visible, I like that. He liked his French dip but the potato salad was forgettable. Potatoes, dill and a runny white dressing. My salmon was outstanding, pink inside, I like rare if I make it. Spinach and bacon topped it off with asparagus that was under seasoned. This might have been a three star dinner but it got that forth for something that even top notch restaurant forget. We had time for conversation between courses. They weren't busy and could have easily rushed us but didn't. Of course there was no line waiting for our table. It was just a nice enjoyable time with my man. With tax $48.03. (4 well drinks). Can't go bad with that! read more

My husband and I stopped in shortly after opening on a Saturday and found the place completely empty. The waitress seemed friendly and we were excited about our first visit. After hearing the specials we ordered some lumpia for an appetizer and went ahead and placed our order. I had the special of BBQ quesadilla and my husband had the burger special with crab meat. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and would have given this place a strong 4 stars were it not for our lumpia sitting on the bar for almost 5 minutes after it was placed there by the chef. Not only that but our server walked right by it sitting there and went behind the counter preparing something I couldn't see. Now, understand we were the only diners in the cafe so this shouldn't have happened. Especially as how the chef saw it sitting there as he prepared our lunches. To top it off, my husband finally got up to get it off the bar and she finally noticed it and blamed the chef for not letting her know. It was a fail on both of them and I really felt it should have been removed from our bill or at least discounted. Either way, the food was good and if we're ever back in that spot we'll try again because the lumpia was actually very good. read more

I normally do not write reviews, but in this case I feel like I needed to. First thing our waitress was awesome. She was on point (five stars). The food on the other hand was not good at all. The stake my girl had was not seasoned/marinated well. Had to use A1 to add flavor. The Carolina style pulled pork I had with there home made sause was not good at all. They wanted to add some heat to their sauce but it was really over whelming (vinegar and heat). I feel like they added the vinegar at last minute. The lumpia was about the only thing edible which I've had better. Hopefully the make some adjustments. read more

We were extremely patient until after an hour of not receiving food or refills or even checking on us she comes up and asks "what's the problem?" Stopped in for a quick lonely lunch around 2:00 pm. I sat at the bar. I ordered their Wasabi Chop Salad with grilled salmon and a draught Yuengling. The staff in Winston's is friendly and attentive; but I was one of about five in there; mid-afternoon down-time hours. The salad was good and the salmon portion was a respectable size and prepared flawlessly. One thing a bit odd: the granite-topped bar is about 5" - 6" too tall. I felt like a kid sitting at "the adult table." My elbows were even with my armpits, so it was uncomfortable there at the bar. I guess the owner should procure taller bar stools or lower the entire bar. That said - this is a hidden jewel in Greenbrier's sea of chains and dives. The menu items are over and above most other Greenbrier establishments, and the chef's technical skill was very apparent. You should give Winston's Café a try. read more

I have had mixed experiences here. The first time I went with my parents and fiancé when I moved here the server rushed us along. She served our food quickly and handed us the check. Oh, ok...I guess I didn't want coffee/dessert/another drink. Other times the service was just okay. I have never felt very warm reception from the staff here, it seems to be a place that caters to regulars or something and if you aren't in that crowd, don't expect anyone to go above and beyond. Despite the inconsistent service, I'm giving it 3 stars because I haven't and dissatisfying experiences with the food. I was a little disappointed to not see an updated beer list anywhere and when I asked the server what was available she didn't seem to know herself. I probably won't go here again - you never know if you'll be greeted like a valued customer or given chilly reception. read more

OK, I wasn't expecting a 4-star restaurant here, but this place was a little disppointing actually. It really looked like a diner - and not in the trendy kind of way. I had one of the local brews which wasn't bad and for food I ordered the French dip: just so so, with cold beef and cheese on French bread... Service was not that great either. Looks like there were lots of regulars/locals, but apparently I wasn't really a priority for the hostess/waiter. There was a band with live music.
