Creative Granite & Quartz - Kitchen countertops

Creative Granite & Quartz

We purchased a new home that needed updating and required some renovations, and we wanted to stay…read morewithin a certain budget. Our real estate agent recommended Creative Granite & Quartz. After visiting their shop and viewing the slabs and getting estimates with very reasonable and competitive prices, we decided to use them. Everyone at their shop was friendly and knowledgeable and worked with us to get the right materials for the look we wanted and to stay within our budget. They did our bathroom countertops, a laundry room sink top, and also the kitchen cabinet and island countertops. They did such a fantastic job on all countertops, we also hired them to install the tile around our fireplace and kitchen backsplash. I will post another review soon for tile work along with the images of the kitchen countertops when the work is finished. We really liked that the owner worked with us on ideas that gave our kitchen island some contrast to the other kitchen countertops. He also made sure that the supports underneath the slab of the kitchen island was adequate. So on top of great prices, know-how, and excellent work done in a timely manner, we also got some style/design advice. We couldn't be happier with everything they've done. Stellar company, and we hope to work with them again in the future.

Overall, I'm happy with the new counters & backsplash. Its just beautiful. Everyone was very…read morefriendly. I want to mention a few things this 1st timer experienced. Demo- if you are removing old counters & backsplash, be prepared for some slight repairs & touch-ups on cabinets and / or trim. Also, they do not remove your existing faucet, garbage disposal, oven vent etc. Nothing plumbing or electrical. If you add tile on a wall where there previously was none, expect to need longer machine screws to put the outlets back. If they don't notch out the tile for the plate covers they will not be as flush. We found both of these things out the next day while trying to put the outlets back in & covers on. If using your existing sink, the sink clips may not fit with new counter. We had to remove sink & caulk under. I hope this gives some insight for others as we had no clue of the process going in.

I would not recommend Derrick Myler or Myler Construction based on our experience. What began as a…read moreconstruction project has turned into a frustrating dispute involving an unreturned deposit, incomplete dirt work, and communication that I found vague, dismissive, and unprofessional. Their original quote was based on plans that later needed correction and approval from the City of Puyallup. I cannot know what they recognized at the outset, but the problems raised serious concerns for me about their understanding of the project. I expected a contractor to identify major issues before proceeding. After the corrected plans were approved, Myler Construction took more than three weeks to provide a new quote. The price had more than doubled, putting the project beyond what we could reasonably move forward with. We requested the return of our deposit for the second contract. Work under that contract had not started, and, to our knowledge, no materials had been ordered. Derrick refused to return the money. We could find no provision in the contract allowing them to retain our deposit under these circumstances. When we asked for an itemized accounting and an explanation of their contractual basis for keeping the money, we received a text saying it was for their time. That did not provide the detailed explanation we requested for withholding more than $70,000. We attempted to resolve this through an emailed demand letter and another sent by certified mail. The certified letter was not accepted or signed for. Our deposit remains unreturned. The dirt work under the first contract is also unfinished, leaving us with a torn-up backyard, damaged sprinklers, and a damaged retaining wall. We have additional questions about the handling of sales tax on the cash payment for that work, which we intend to submit to the appropriate agency for review. What has frustrated me most is the response when we asked for accountability. In my experience, legitimate questions were met with a dismissive attitude instead of clear answers and a meaningful effort to resolve the dispute. We remain willing to settle this matter if our deposit of more than $70,000 is returned. So far, their response gives us the impression that they would rather make this difficult than resolve it directly. We are preparing to pursue legal action to recover our money and additional damages, along with complaints to Washington Labor & Industries and the Department of Revenue. I trusted this company with a major project and a substantial amount of money. Based on how this has been handled, I would not hire them again.
