This BBQ chain is no longer black owned, which alarmed me when I walked into the Plano location. However, I'd still rate it 3.5 stars. Here's why! Service was good. The cashier was able to answer all of our questions and get our order placed confidently. She was like that with everyone I saw her work with. I'm big on customer service, so we're off to an awesome start! I pretty much ordered all the sides; green beans, baked beans, potato salad and mac n cheese. Along with brisket and ribs. The sides, except the potato salad, were delicious. Each had their own flavor and shocked me with each first bite. Even the mac n cheese was good. Not anything to praise but good enough to order repeatedly. The brisket I was on the fence about. Without the fat, it is EXTREMELY dry! But after eating a piece with fat and drowning it with their savory BBQ sauce and a couple pickles (all one bite, I should add) it livened the beef up. I shouldn't have to do all that but I digress. The ribs, sweet tea and potato salad are horrible. Sweet tea is not sweet. The potato salad had a weird texture and taste. The ribs were tough. Nothing fell off the bone rather had to be forcefully removed. The rib bark was seasoned well but that's it. Not sure of a return. read more

Really good Mac and cheese with bbq ribs and brisket. Definitely coming back to this bbq joint.

First...I picked this spot because I wanted greens. I get there and find out it got bought and they took them off the menu. I had already been waiting on my date who was stuck in traffic so I'm like let's just eat anyway. Brisket yum, ribs yum, sausage eww. Mac n cheese gross. Potato salad is more like slightly chunky mashed potatoes with pickle relish and when you bite into an actual potato it was hard. Baked beans were a disgrace. Green beans out the can with a lil seasoning. But the worst! That banana pudding! It made me throw up. It had a super weird artificial taste to it. Nothing on the menu we had was scatch made. Ugh even the sweet tea was gross. You can tell it's not filtered water and they don't even have lemon. They don't even have salt and pepper shakers. You have to open the utensil plastic to get seasoning. I did like the brisket and ribs because it was a lil different because they season the meat with something extra and it was tender and juicy but that's not enough for a return visit. read more

I cannot believe it took me this long to check this place out! We wanted bbq this afternoon and contemplated going all the way down to south Dallas to our favorite bbq place. We were lead astray by another bbq restaurant in Richardson, which will remain nameless, and so when it comes to bbq I'd rather stick with a place that seems consistent. I found this place on yelp and went to go get some takeout for us. An mvp brisket baked potato, an mvp rib baked potato, large order of greens (only available on sundays) and banana pudding. When I tell you how delicious this food was! The Smokey flavor was undeniable on the meat, the greens were seasoned and cooked deliciously and the bbq sauce was the perfect marriage of sweet and spicy. I'm so excited to stay close to my area and get better food than my usual spot. You better believe we will be bac read more

I was in the area and have read and heard about good and bad things about this place. There's this sliced Brisket Sandwich picture that always comes to mind from another Yelper whenever I think about Winner's. So, here I am after slaving myself from the gym, brought myself in here to get my protein gain post workout. The place is an open setting. Tables up front soon after you walk in then the ordering area at the end of the room. It was around 3pm and there's about 3-4 tables occupied and another person waiting for their to-go order. I ordered the sliced Brisket Sandwich. It took no long than 5 minutes until my name was called. I was a little disappointed of what I saw, it was nowhere near the scrumptious looking sliced Brisket Sandwich that I have been dreaming of. I got 3 thicker than usual slices in a bun that have some spices on it. It looked dry but haven't really think too much about it until I took my first bite. First bite without any sauce, just the meat and bread the meat was dry but the BBQ sauce saved it to make it decent. 2- stars for right now for the bun and great costumer service. I'd try it again and maybe it'll gain another 2 stars. I love supporting local businesses that's why I'm not giving up. I'd definitely go back to try the ribs and sides. read more

Had lunch there today. This is an obvious hole in the wall, but it was SO yummy. My colleague and I each got a lunch plate - sandwich with 2 sides and a drink ($9.99) and split ours with each other. She got pulled pork, I got chopped beef. Both of us got the mac & cheese and baked beans. Feedback: PROS *Very helpful lady at the counter who even recognized our teacher badges. They take care of us & we got a discount! *quick service. I maybe waited 3 minutes for my beef. *chopped beef vs pulled pork sandwich today. Both of us agreed the beef was much more moist (that was a surprise). *pickle and onion bar available *sandwich bun had some sort of magical dust on it....the taste was incredible *amount of pulled pork was greater than the beef. Either way, it's 5.5 hours later and I'm still full. *Mac and cheese was delish. Not your run of the mill- had wonderful texture and a special flavor to it. *beans had some sweet and spicy kick to them. *in house BBQ sauce was on the spicy side but delish. You're in charge of your sauce! CONS: *soda fountain wasn't working. Canned drinks only. Not much from the selection that I wanted. Only one diet drink choice. *(could be considered a pro) left smelling like a smokehouse. Overall a good experience and I'd recommend! read more

Tried For the first time because I've heard ppl talk about it. Ordered online and picked up through grubhub. Umm, yea lol not a fan at all. Ordered two meat plate with ribs, brisket, Mac and beans. Let's only focus on the meat because it's what's important. Ribs... lack of flavor and needed to cook longer on the grill. Brisket was dry. So dry. No tenderness at all. So disappointed in this meal. Seems that this bbq joint has gone down tremendously. I guess it has changed ownership again, (I miss the original owner when the food was Excellent). I was there today and ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and it is horrible. Waaay too salty and no smoke flavor. If you're used to GOOD BBQ then I recommend you go elsewhere. The only positive I have is, the meat is tender. Sorry Winners, I won't be coming back...... read more

I ordered brisket, sausage and green beans via delivery. Since I don't eat sauce, I cannot comment on the sauce. The brisket was a little dry and the fat had not emulsified (indicating it has not cooked long enough), the sausage flavor was okay but its casing was so tough it was hard to cut and chew, the green beans were not well seasoned and a tad bland. Overall it tasted like liquid smoke was used in the food. I won't order again and have been cautioning friends by sharing my experience. read more

Damn the loaded potato. It's enough to make all the other customers go "woah" and possibly change their orders. I've seen this pop up on Yelp several times since almost a year ago, but never committed to going until I saw a coworker come back to lunch with a to-go box. That pretty much sealed the deal for me and I had to go the next day. Ordered a potato with "all the fixin'" and chopped brisket and on-the-bone ribs. Oof. Probably weighed two pounds in total and I could only eat half in one sitting without feeling nauseous - in a good way. The ribs are fantastic - not the softest I've had, but the meat was strong. I don't even know how to describe it but those were some strong cows... LOL. Chopped brisket doesn't compare to sliced brisket (which Hutchin's still wins on this one) but with the potato? Mmmmm. Also I know that sauce shouldn't be necessary for amazing BBQ, but somehow you just want more and more of this sauce that they've got. Drizzle it all over and mix it in. It's so good that it's hard to stop. Great space, lots of sitting room. Super friendly staff. A real winner! (hah.) read more

Very solid overall BBQ. They could use a little more smoke flavor, but all in all it's always moist and delicious. They are in my top 3 BBQ stops in the area. I love the mom and pop feel-It's certainly not a big box place like 10-50, Dickey's, etc, etc. Their sides are general BBQ place sides, nothing overly special like fried Brussel sprouts or green chili mac and cheese. They have the complimentary pickles, onions and jalapenos. The sauce is probably a store bought sauce, but the meat doesn't need it, so I haven't tried to figure out what sauce they use. Price is more reasonable than most, and that's good. All in all, you won't be disappointed here. read more

I went to Winners BBQ with my coworkers for lunch. We had a great experience! BBQ is, in my opinion, an intensely personal preference. Bark? No bark? Heavy smoke? Light smoke? Sauce? No sauce? To each his/her own, I say. And I also say that you can have lots of types of BBQ that you really really like, while also having BBQ that you really really love. Winners, for me, falls into the really really like category. It's nicely smoked, not too spicy and very little bark. The meat has plenty of fat (which I pull off, but like having when it's served so I know the meat isn't too dry). It's also really tender and moist - probably from all of that fat that's left on while smoking. You'll find Winners in the far eastern side of Plano, tucked into a nondescript shopping strip. I didn't realize it until we were leaving, but there's an outdoor seating area that allows you to get some fresh, non-smoked meat filled air while you're eating. (Next time!) If I were you, I'd go on the earlier side for lunch. The line got really intense after we arrived at 11:40. There's one register, and a super friendly order taker, but it still takes time to get to the counter to place your order. Prices are reasonable, particularly when you consider the portion sizes. The loaded baked potato is ridiculously large! I ordered the one meat plate, which came with two sides and a drink for $12. I had more than enough to eat to satisfaction and take half home for a later meal. I chose brisket - it's always what I pick the first time at a BBQ joint. Kind of the canary in the coal mine test, you might say, for whether I'll like the food or not. It was really wonderful (see above for why). Plus it didn't need sauce. Even though I grew up with KC Style BBQ, I prefer sauceless now that I'm older. But you'll want to try the sauce - it's slightly sweet, slighty peppery. Not spicy. It's great for a dab here and there. The mac and cheese was the most unique that I've had in some time, and certainly at a BBQ place. There were multiple types of cheese, plus plenty of pepper. It was a WINNER. Like I might order just that some time. The baked beans were ok, nothing to write home about but made for a pleasant side. They offer greens as a side dish on Saturdays and Sundays only - I'll definitely come back to give those a try. Anything that's offered for a limited time only tells me they put a lot of love and time into making. Must.Have. Here's an interesting twist also - they offer Free Beer on Fridays. In a can, dine in only, one beer only. Too bad we went for lunch and not dinner, or I might have grabbed one of the Modelos kept in ice. Great touch. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall place with plenty of family love and time put into it and a great place to visit. I really enjoyed Winners and will be back. I'm giving them 4 stars because my true love is Lockhart's, because I like a little more bark than Winners offers. But I would never turn down an invitation to eat at Winners! GOOD STUFF!! read more

This place has potential!! The overall ambiance is lacking. The decor & music don't scream BBQ more like a strip center bar/nightclub. It looks like there might even be a dance floor when the sun goes down. On to the food: I had the brisket potato. It was Really Good! The potato included, butter, sour cream and cheese. Chives would have made it perfect. They do provide pickles and onions. I can't give an opinion about the sauce b/c the brisket didn't need any! Hubby liked it. Hubs had ribs and brisket and enjoyed both. The sides are good but nothing spectacular. We had mac and cheese, BBQ beans and potato salad. We wanted to try the greens but they weren't ready until noon. My little had the sausage. No one was a fan. It was gritty and too smokey. And there wasn't any mustard. (Crime in my BBQ handbook. That and not having pinto beans, it's the west Texas in me). The service was friendly and Quick! Overall, the place was clean right down to the bathrooms. You don't find a lot of BBQ joints aside from Dickeys in a retail strip center. I wouldn't stay away due to the lack of ambiance. The brisket is good and it's not a chain!! read more

Let me start off by pointing out the positive in my visit to this restaurant. The place was clean, fast service and a wide variety of items on the menu. Now I'll proceed to explain the reason for the 1 star. The staff was not friendly. The meat, specifically, the ribs and sliced brisket were both extremely hard and did not appear fresh. I've heard of some places that sell ribs where the meat literally slides right off the bone. Well, this is not the place where such things happen. The mac & cheese also tasted weird but not too bad. I paid around $30 for a MVP potato, sliced brisket sandwich and a large mac & cheese. It was not worth it and I was extremely disappointed. read more

Plus half a star So I have been to BBQ all over the US and let me tell you... this place is NO Frills. No display whatsoever to make you feel like you're in a BBQ joint. The interior resembles more of an abandoned pool hall that a restaurant. Couple TVs showing ESPN Small bar area with no liquor or beer displayed or available. The menu is drawn up on half a dozen chalkboards. The food: Today ordered half pound of both Brisket and Pulled Pork. The presentation much like the decor is simple. No added bells or whistles. Couple slices of beef along side a pile of pork. Let's start with the pork. Well seasoned with salt and pepper. However very very dry. The brisket. Nice portioned thick slices of brisket. No discernible taste or appearance of a smoke ring. Once again the brisket was dry. Not as dry as the pork. The brisket was brittle. No elasticity to the meat whatsoever. The bark was well seasoned of salt and pepper but sadly this was NOT BBQ. If you close your eyes and bite into the brisket it's closer to Pot Roast than BBQ. No rich Smokey, sweet, or peppery flavors at all. The BBQ sauce was nice. Strong molasses flavor in the BBQ. All in all. It's okay. No way near the best I have every had. And I have had some of the best in the country. Let alone Texas. Definitely needs a second shot to possibly pull the rating up to a solid three star. read more

Winners is the place for great food and good prices. The daily specials make eating BBQ affordable. Quick food service is a huge plus.

First time trying the Plano location! I must say I prefer the meat at the Cedar Hill location, it just seems like it's smoked longer. If you are a fan of BBQ this is definitely a place you want to put on your list, at least 1 time. It's a little too pricey for me and i don't eat a ton of bbq but when i do, this would be at the top of my list. Portions are huge! I got a baked potato with 2 meats. I can't even get through have of this on my own. If they run out of an item you are out of luck, once it's gone it's gone for that day. They are very popular so get there early enough. They have a variety of plates and sandwiches and whatnot and i believe they sell by the pound as well. Thanks for lunch and dinner :) read more

Ordered a Cyclone sandwich which includes 3 meats! Only received 1 meat! I lived 30miles from this location when I called them to explain their error and the fact I live 30miles from this location the worker asked if I can bring it back to either receive a refund or remake! I asked can I send you a picture to show the error? I just want a refund for the meats I haven't received- I don't care if it is $3.00 difference! Some relatives told us about this place and now that we've tried it we've been back about four times. Each time, we have had the fully loaded MVP baked potato with brisket. These potatoes are huge and covered with meat. In fact, we split them between two of us because it would be too much for one person to eat alone. These potatoes are served with a zesty barbecue sauce on the side. The potatoes have the traditional toppings of cheese and sour cream etc. and then are covered in the meat. A relative prefers the brisket barbecue sandwich and says it's also very good. Great bbq. A suggestion from my barber. Reasonably priced and the portion size was sufficient

This is the best BBQ in Texas hands down and affordable. You can't beat the price and the best BBQ.

My first time trying Winners. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad and a banana pudding. Also a lemonade. The meat on the sandwich was moist and chopped well; no big globs of fat. My only complaint about it is that it tasted too salty. The barbecue sauce was good. Not too sweet, not too tangy. The bun tasted toasted, or grilled. It was good. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad. The banana pudding was a big disappointment. It was WAY WAY too sweet! I liked the consistency of it, though. It was more like a mousse than a pudding. But I couldn't get past the fact that it was sickeningly sweet. And there were no banana pieces in it. Any southern cook knows you need bananas in banana pudding! I honestly feel like someone must have accidentally doubled up on the sugar with this batch. I can't imagine anyone thinking this tastes good. I mean I love sugar but this was too much. read more
