Wings Restaurant has some of the best Chinese food near Bexley. I like the Mongolian Beef with fried rice. The atmosphere is low key and understated. The fine wine and scotch selection are comparable to any restaurant in the city. Kenny, Woody and the staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Nothing outstanding, but all was good. You won't find much unique here, except an 'American' menu along side the traditional Westernized Chinese food. They have all the traditional fare you would have found at non-buffet Chinese restaurants from the 70's on. Very nice atmosphere but there definitely needs to be some better up keep. There were fresh flowers on each table, my booth particularly and they were accompanied by a slew of gnats. Not good for a first visit. The drink menu had a million options for scotch, preferably not my taste so that was a bummer. I'm not too much of a clean freak but it made me squirm when the waiter gave us straws after they had slid up and down his fingers a few times. Needless to say we asked for new straws. The EGG-ROLLS were bomb.com! Highly recommend those. Maybe 2 minutes before the server brought us our food I noticed a small black bug jumping around on my placemat . I assumed it was another gnat and killed it just before the food arrived. My boyfriend ordered the Combination Kew and the beef in his order was not cooked thoroughly and there was barely any sauce. I just had to get me some Chinese food !!! Wings was still open, I order the shirmp fried rice and the combination shirmp/chicken/beef with vegetables, to go. The shirmps was the smallest I have ever seen in shrimp fried rice for a restaurant, It had no taste to it at all!!! It was stuck together. The other meal was a little better, except for the small shrimps and the stiff white rice. (I wanted fried rice. ) The container for the shrimp fried rice was a medium size and for $10, most any restaurant give you the large container and the price is usually around $7-$9. The container with the combination meal was large, but the stiff white rice was the smallest I have ever seen!!! Been going to this Bexley landmark for over 50 yrs. Originally this restaurant opened after WWII as the Far East by the Ming family. Mr Ming was a war correspondent &photographer. Nice family owned and operated establishment, yes. Comparable to "the water cooler" and/or a "hen house", yes. Regulars love to sit around the bar, sipping scotch or their favorite adult beverage and gossip. Ok. Whatever. Kenny, the son of the long time owner, Wing, has taken over the business since his father passed away a few years ago. Wing was a delight! My son absolutely loved him, and Wing treated him very special every time he would go in with my husband (whom mind you is more of a regular there than I am). I view Kenny as someone that has very expensive taste (and quite honestly, probably the wallet to match)- however, I have a major pet peeve, that makes me crazy every single time it happens. So, I believe Kenny *wants* to think of this as a fine dining establishment. And in many ways, as mentioned in another review from someone, with the right mindset, it can be anything you make of it. However, in every fine dining establishment, when serving shrimp, they always always ALWAYS remove the intestinal track (aka the poop) from the shrimp. It isn't time consuming, but shows the diner that you have taken the time to serve QUALITY food. I absolutely LOVE the flavor of their Mongolian Shrimp. But it always turns me off when I have to dig through my dish and remove what should have been removed prior to serving. This single issue alone, makes them no better than your average run of the mill strip mall Chinese takeout. I do love their Red Hot Tuna. That is, when they actually prepare it a nice medium- medium well. I love their rice. And Woody, the bartender in there is EXCELLENT! Overall, I'm satisfied. There's a reason I'm turned off from actually dining in most times. Because I just can't stand the cattiness water cooler crap- (I can hang out at my kids school in Bexley for that crap)- but I'm fine with take out. My biggest beef, is that they do not take the time to properly clean the shrimp. You can't pretend you're slightly above the rest, and still serve that type of stuff. Given the highly Americanized menu (and serving bread and butter before our meal), Wing's is not too shabby. True you can get your standard American fare (found conveniently on the last page of the menu), but if you're willing to look past that, you actually get a mixture of flavorful dishes. If someone were to propose the idea of serving teriyaki glazed salmon atop a bed of vegetable chop suey months ago, I would have thought that they were crazy. Surprisingly, Wing's proved me wrong and such a dish actually turned out to be quite the delectable one. The same can be said about herb crusted tilapia served over mongolian vegetables; somehow all the flavors blended nicely. The szechuan chicken was equally delicious despite delivering a zest much different from the former two dishes. All in all, a fairly decent Chinese restaurant in an okay part of town. The owner must have read previous reviews on Yelp, because I personally thought that portions were a bit on the skimpy side when my parents and I went. I'm absolutely baffled by the good reviews here. I was so excited for our first visit here but it was nothing like what had been described to me. The dining room seems dirty. Who has carpet in a restaurant like that?? The other patrons were having some seriously shady conversations and we didn't feel welcome or comfortable. I ordered an MGD from the menu. The server asked what that was, which is fine, because I want her to bring the right thing. She brought me a Miller Lite. I politely asked for my MGD again. She brought me a Miller High Life, which isn't on the menu. I gave up and ordered the pan-fried, not deep-fried, pot stickers. I can't imagine receiving something more fried than what we got. It was actually pretty good, but it was not a pan-fried pot sticker. My husband and I split the "orange chicken". I put that in quotes because I have no idea what sauce that was. Lets start off with the fact that I got CHINESE carry out and got home only to find NO rice in my bag. :( I asked for hot mustard for my egg roll. I received about 1 tbls of straight up horseradish in a cup and another very small cup of an unknown substance. Being not a fast food restaurant, I assumed they would cook their War Sue Gai properly but they did it like all fast food places and "flash fried" it. That totally chances the texture and taste!!! Wing's is a neighborhood tradition in Bexley. It's quite old fashioned. If you've ever wondered what Chinese restaurants were like in 40s-50s America, then Wing's is the answer. I hope they never change and I'm confident that they won't. Service is personal, and the staff will likely remember you if you come in a few times. It's very common to see the owner, Kenny, greeting guests and regulars personally at the door, just as his dad did before him. The food is fantastic and is always exactly how I remember it, every time I come in. Lunch is a large plateful, and Dinner is a slightly larger silver dish - I often need a take out container. Favorites are wonton soup, hot and sour soup, egg rolls, sesame beef, and house lo mein, but order anything - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Wing's has room (and catering) for large parties such as wedding receptions if you're looking to rent space. From what I understand the scotch collection is quite large (huge), but I've never sat at the bar before, for no particular reason. If you have any question at all about scotch, be sure to chat up Kenny. I highly recommend Wing's. For the delicious food, wonderful staff, and the tradition it has in Bexley. Five stars. read more

This is a contender for the worst service in Columbus. After 20 minutes or more, a waitress came and took our drink orders. Exactly 90 minutes after we arrived, I went in search of a waitress, any waitress. I finally resorted to tracking her down in the kitchen and asked if we could put in our food order. She showed up 5 minutes later. Worst Wor Su Gai I ever had. The sardines were greasy in a terrible breading and way too much salt. No one at the table liked anything we ordered. It was uninspired, greasy, without decent seasoning, and only basic industrial grade sauces with copious amounts of salt seeming to be the only seasoning. read more

Grew up in Bexley, now I live in PA. This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at, having been to numerous restaurants both on the west coast and east coast. The War Su Gai and fried wontons are a must. I visit Columbus about once a year and my very first stop is Wings. I have tried searching the internet for the sauce recipe they use in the War Su Gai, sadly to no avail. I would love to be able to cook this myself since I live so far away. If you want great Chinese food at a reasonable price in a laid back atmosphere, look no further than Wings! read more

Went with a few friends for dinner based on word of mouth. It does feel like a Chinese restaurant I went to as a child. No chopsticks but big metal flatware. Food was served on platform serving dishes with lids which looks nice but there isn't a lot of space on the table to place the lids while you are serving. The food was people tasty. I didn't like the placemats. They were generic paper Mats with kids puzzles. While that's fine for kids I didn't like clown images next to my spicy shrimp fish. They did serve basket of Italian white bread. It was tasteless and took away from the experience. We were in the dining room which was pretty quiet. Prep gaps we should have sat in the bar area there is a huge TV and a view of the scotch collection I heard about but didn't try. One big suggestion is to have a drink menu. read more

I was so embarrased when I took a date to this place, had Garlic Scallops, Shanghai Noodles, Rumaki. Rumaki were inedible, way over cooked and dry. Scallops were supposed to be spicy, tasted like they were drenched in campbell's soup and the sauce had a terrible metallic aftertaste, the Noodles were gummy and drenched in what tasted like very old powdered curry seasoning. I could have gone back in the kitchen and made much better food myself, and I don't know how to cook chinese food...but I wouldn't have done this bad of a job, and certainly wouldnt have served this garbage to a customer, on top of this the waitress was rude. read more

Just finished takeout from Wing's. Or, should I say, just finished throwing out most of our dinner. We normally eat at other Chinese places locally, but today we wanted something different so we chose Wing's. We ordered General's Tso's chicken, ginger chicken, shrimp and scallops with asparagus, seafood lo mein, shrimp dumplings, and vegetable tofu soup for a family of four -- two adults and two grade school aged children. Things didn't start well as by the time I got home (5 minutes or less) the juices in the takeout boxes had soaked through the bag and left a brown gravy on the front seat of my car. My son absolutely loves General Tso's chicken from other local places; here, he didn't finish it and said the best thing on his plate (he tried both chicken dishes) was the rice. Usually, the rice is the worst thing to him when we eat Chinese. Although I still ate it, I agree it's the worst among the choices in the Bexley area. Not particularly spicy, either. The ginger chicken wasn't inherently bad, but no one actually liked eating it. Supposedly it's spicy according to the menu, but in fact it had almost no flavor or heat. No way it is spicy. I found it to be very bland, and the sort of Chinese food that you'd eat only if you were really hungry. My wife ordered the soup and the seafood and asparagus. Both went into the garbage. No one liked them. The dumplings weren't bad -- but not particularly good. They were the only thing we finished at the meal. On a positive note, my daughter thought the lo mein was good. All of this, and the cost of this dinner was a bit more than we usually pay at the local places on Broad St. and Livingston Ave. Frankly, the drive thru food from Panda Express is better. From the reviews here it seems most people like the ambiance or the Scotch menu at Wing's. We came for the food, and won't be back any time soon. read more

I note that most reviews are complementary. The few exceptions remind us that it is impossible to please everyone. I have traveled round the world on my stomach. As a golden oldie gourmand, I think I can judge quality food. Columbus has become a food heaven, thanks to Cameron Mitchell and others. But Wings stands out for excellent food- chinese and american- at very reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place out yesterday and were completely unimpressed! We were super hungry so we ordered a variety of items from the ridiculously huge menu. Let's rewind a little bit though. We walked in and were waiting to be seated. The waitress just stood and looked at us but said nothing. After standing awkwardly for a few minutes she told us to sit anywhere. We were brought 2 glasses of pool-tasting tap water and asked for our drink order. We both ordered ginger ail which just tasted like sugar water. We decided what we wanted to order and watched our waitress stare at the TV by the bar and completely ignore the fact that we were ready to order. We finally ordered 2 bowls of chicken and rice soup, an order of "potstickers", an order of crab rangoon and an order of Kung Pao shrimp to share. We received our soup first which was unimpressive and came to us very sloppy with half of it on the saucer underneath. It was literally just broth, boiled chicken and white rice....pretty bland and the chicken was almost offensive to eat. Our appetizers came......They clearly have no idea what a potsticker is!! They came deep fried to a crisp. The first one I ate had maybe a half tablespoon of filling in it!! The crab ragoons were equally unimpressive, they were mostly cream cheese and barely had any filling as well.....Then, oh boy......our Kung Pao Shrimp.....Was more like Kung Pao celery!!! It was mostly huge chunks of celery, followed by huge chunks of bell pepper, a few mushrooms, a few water chestnuts and maybe 5 shrimp in the whole dish! It was completely smothered in sauce and a generous helping of peanuts. We were given this tiny bowl of rice to share and barely asked if our food was good or if we needed anything. I had to ask for more rice so we could even finish our food. The icing on the cake was the $40 bill we were presented with at the end (so not worth it!!) For extra added bonus, we were both ill for the rest of the night and all day today!! I intend to contact the manager and will update my review with their response....or lack of! read more

My rating for this place stays the same as last time I visited, however I would now only recommend it as a bar or lounge. The food was not as great as I remembered (coconut shrimp that was over-fried and lukewarm.) but the main attraction is the epic scotch list. I had been to Wing's before and had decent meals there in the past. However, last Friday, I invited a couple of friends for dinner before a movie at Drexel. The whole thing was a disaster from the start. The hot tea was luke warm and old. Figured I should not bitch since we were there about 6 and thought maybe they were not ready. Our soup, sweet and sour, was only vinagry and sour. The rice was either from lunch or the day before, Mala beans were so cold that even after requesting them to heat it up was still cold. My Szchuan beef was old and tasteless. But the worst was the grilled chicken, it was slimy and stunk. Meat had gone bad. I was so embarressed, I called the manager and told him, he just took the food away and asked to order something else. Since everything was so bad, we just left after paying our tab. No apology at all. I can not imagine any food worse than what we all had, and I can assure everyone that the worst frozen chineese food is better than what we had. An absolute disaster. What was so surprising was how the owner reacted to the whole thing, did not care at all. read more

I agree with Lisa S. WIngs is a total blast from the past. The food is plenty fine. They serve white bread with every meal (funny). It's clean. Kenny the owner is super friendly. We took my niece; she's 2 and all over the place. They acted like they loved having her there. When the weather is nice, the patio is great. They have a full bar. My first visit to Wing's was on a date many years ago and I fell in love with the food and the date. Wing's food is by far better than any other chinese I have ever had. War Shu Up is my favorite w/ duck. The service is very good and they add a nice touch with the linen tablecloths and napkins. Good food and a great date! This place may of been good a while ago, but when I went there last week I had some of the worst chinese food I had ever gotten. I ordered the chicken and noodles with garlic sauce, the "noodles" tasted like ramen noodles that had been overcooked and left out for 12 hours, stale and hard on the outside, and a gooey starchy cold glob in the middle. Chicken tasted not the freshest, and did not even have the fat trimmed off of it. I'm no chef, but I think even I could of done a better job.
