SEVEN WORDS: TRADITIONAL UPSCALE CHINESE / COMFY ATMOSPHERE / BOISTEROUS BAR. . Located in Eastmoor for over 50 Years, Wings Restaurant is a mainstay and staple to the near-east side. No wonder, with the only nearby Chinese restaurant over a mile away and no formal sit-down Chinese Restaurant until youget to Reynoldsburg or Downtown. . Still, Wings holds it's own against a handful of great restaurants In Bexley and Just East of I-270. . We ordered the General Tsos and Kung Pao Trio - and selected an appetizer of Calamari. . The Calari was middling to good, with a full plate of smaller octopus babies Fried up in a savory but light breading. We gobbled it up in a flah. . When the main courses came out, the servings were a little larger than average and the sauces were both better than average. The Kung Pao trio was a dish similar to Triple Delight or Triple Phoenix - with healthy portions of Shrimp, Beef Strips, and Chicken mingling with all the usual Chinese Vegetables in a Hot Brown Sauce. I was thankful for the absence of both Green Peppers and Onions, which I feel ruin Stir Fry. . My wife's General Tsos was a definite upgrade from most traditional recipes. Wing's version had a great mix of both hot and sweet elements, with a light dusting of Sesame Seeds covering the Molasses-soaked Chicken and Split Black Peppers. Woo Whee! Good Stuff! . The only drawback (and a mild one at that) was the $43 bill, but that's minor considering we added Calamari and I had a dish featuring sizable portions of 3 meats. . Over and above the huge portions of good food, the ambience is mellow: blue-green walls warp around dark walnut furnishings in a cool white light. . An old gem!!!! Wings has been around longer than I've been alive. They have good food and nice staff. Their restaurant hasn't changed and it brings me back to my childhood every time I come in!! Their wonton soup is amazing!!! They give complimentary hot tea when you order an entree. Their egg rolls are fantastic! First visit. Sunday, 12/30/18 Early New Years celebration for 6 adults. I've heard the rave reviews of Wings for years. Every time we roll down Main St. through Bexley, we point and say "we need to go". This time I made the reservation, and told my friends where we were going for our New Years gathering. I was skeptical at first. You read reviews, stare at photo's. I was worried I had just booked a special occasion at a wood table with paper placemats, and napkins. Those photos are all from lunch. Dinner is white linen tablecloths and napkins(see pic). The flowers on the table are fresh. The bathrooms were remodeled and expanded in 2016(see pics). The menu and furniture is a bit dated. There is a respectable amount of parking in the private lot. The wine and liquor list is extensive. We did not have a Scotch drinker in our party, but the list displayed many brands that this former bartender had never heard of. We were immediately greeted upon entering, by a friendly, smiling woman at the hostess stand. Our table was all set up and waiting. A chilled bottle of Plum wine and champagne flutes were shared. Next came the cocktails, followed by appetizers. The hand rolled egg rolls were crispy, golden brown, and stuffed with shrimp & pork(see pic). I must say I was jealous of my friends Hot & Sour soup(see pic). It was so thick, and hearty. Like a stew. He said it had a great flavor balance as well. The condiments were spicy mustard and a sweet, tart lemon sauce. Red sweet & sour sauce was available upon request. I asked our server what the house specialties are. There is no "Chef Recommendations" on the menu. He said "it's all about the sauce". I wanted spicy, so he suggested the spicy brown. Choosing my proteins and some vegetables... led me to the Sichuan Combination(see pic & description). It is a tasty sauce, but I could use some more heat when warning with a colored red pepper on the menu. My meats were a hit and miss of tender and chewy. There was a generous portion with steamed rice. Others were pleased with their Kung Pao, Sesame, and Mongolian. The Prime Rib Special was too far medium for a medium-rare meat. These are also guests who don't believe in sending the plate back, to give the restaurant a chance to make it perfect. They could have sliced from a different part of the prime rib. Great service for the most part. When we loitered over drinks and conversation, our server was a bit more scarce. **In Conclusion** We will definitely return. The food was good, and priced right. Ordered shrimp lo mein... Received something else!... Ramen noodles with vegetables and shrimp... The Ramen noodles were so nasty I couldn't even eat them... sent it back and got shrimp fried rice instead... Something easy to cook... After a few bites I bit into something that tasted like sand was mixed in with it... And the shrimp was the smallest shrimp I've ever seen... If I could give these guys a zero I would... Absolute worst Chinese I've ever had!... I used to drive truck... I've ordered Chinese in over 1000 restaurants across America.... don't waste your time going here!!!..... they do have a bar... I've eaten at Wings for over 35 years, not all the time but a few times a year. Three stars is ridiculous...4.5 for sure. Accommodated our party of 9 last minute on Sunday night...service was great and food was too. Tried Beef with oyster sauce...delicious. Crab Rangoon was good. read more

This is a Bexley institution. One of those restaurants that have stood the test of time. The same family has owned it for decades and it's still going strong. Take a seat at the bar with the regulars or have a seat in the dining room. The servers and bartenders have been there for a long time and they know their stuff. Service will always be friendly and well paced. Kenny, the owner, will remember you if you've been there a few times. Got a special request? They are glad to custom make your order if you have something you want to leave out or you want to tweek a dish a bit. Some of the things I've tried are their Eggrolls, Potstickers, Kung Pao Chicken, Chow Fun See, Lo Mein, Hot and Sour Soup, War Sue Gai and Lettuce Wraps. All are good, but you really need to check out the Lettuce Wraps. It's an appetizer but you can really make a meal out of it. Don't know what it is? Well, it's minced chicken, flavourful but not spicy and served with iceberg lettuce leaves. Put the chicken in the lettuce, roll it up and eat. If you are a Scotch drinker, you may have already heard of their stellar selection of Scotches. Kenny knows his Scotch and he tries to get ones that you don't see here very often. They have a full party room with a bar set up downstairs. Got a party or large event? They can handle it there. Wings also has a patio on the side of their building for those days you need Chinese al fresco. TIP: If you are a person of size you will need to be aware that their restrooms are much smaller than most people's closets and the short hallway to get to them might be a well, challenge. Just when I thought I'd seen everything, Mike G takes me to a place that's like noneother. Wings is like stepping back into the past. When's the last time you saw Chop Suey or Ham Fried Rice on the menu? Well, you can get those and more at Wing's. I ordered an eggroll (not that hot) and Orange Beef (pretty good). This was the first time I'd gotten onions and pea pods and they were pretty good. The meat was well cooked and tender. Finally got here. I was in the area for something else, quite a bit off my normal routes. And I practically drove right past it, so I had to stop in. Besides, I wanted Chinese, and how often does that happen ;) It's in a fairly nondescript area, but it's a nice little building and the inside is pretty fancy. At least, I felt out of place in my t-shirt, though they had no problem with it. Service is efficient and friendly. And fast, but then they're weren't busy. I had crab Rangoon to start. Pretty good, very crabby- as in, real crab. There's a big, interesting menu, but I went with a special: garlic chicken. Tender meat, in a black bean sauce that subtly but definitively showcased garlic. Some green onions added variety. Prices for lunch were good. Portions were fine. The staff and decor were, well, old-school but clean and modern, if that makes sense. read more

This one of the first place I ate at when I move to Columbus in 1985. The place was ~40 years old then. To say it is a staple of Bexley & required experience is an understatement. I would guess that 90-95% of their business is carry out. They have a good menu with above average service. A fully stocked bar with a cast of local regulars. read more

Wing's is a nearly ancient Chinese lounge on the east side of Columbus, dark and personal and wonderful. It feels as old as it is, and dinner here feels somehow... historic. We went to Wing's as a big group, and were seated in a big booth- comfy and roomy. It didn't take long at all to order and receive our food from a hospitable, thickly-accented old Chinese man; our food, when it arrived, was of generous proportion (although a tad light on the white rice on the side). I ordered the Mongolian Beef. It was supposed to be spicy and wasn't, but it was definitely delicious. I devoured it all in near-record time, despite my first viewing of the food demanding plans for a to-go container. So be it. Can't complain about a meal I devoured the last bits of minutes after serving. We ended up all sharing our foods, so I got to try a good swath of options. From the sweet and sour pork to the house lo mein, everything was delicious. A tad mild, maybe, but very good. Wing's has a gorgeous bar that I'd have loved to had time to explore, but alas I'll have to return for the chance. First off, this is owned and run by a very nice family. They really do try and work very hard. Wings has the best scotch selection in town! It's several pages and very impressive. In addition, the bar selection and wine list are also very good. They have a Chinese and American menu (what other Chinese place has mashed potatoes and gravy on the menu?). Aside from the fantastic bar menu is the decor and atmosphere. It has a great Art Deco shaped wood bar with a 1930s cash register. Probably hasn't changed much since opening in the 1940s as one of the first "oriental" restaurants in Columbus. Originally named The Far East. This place is perfect for parties and hanging with a group of friends. The whole place is a throw back to the 1950s with a warm, family feeling. Very cool! Now on to the food... I started out with the wonton soup and an egg roll. The wonton soup was excellent! Egg roll, not so much. It was very greasy and the pork was over cooked. They serve white bread before the main course which I'm told was customary in 1930s-50s Chinese places in America. Bread was bread, nothing special. Main course I ordered breaded veal with mushrooms and water chestnuts in a brown sauce over rice. It was very salty and forgettable. Next time I think I may just order off the American menu. Friends have told me they have the best onion rings and chicken sandwiches in town. This was the fourth visit over the years and was disappointed in the Chinese food each time. However, it is a great place relax, explore hard to find scotch and have a good time with friends/family in a great vintage setting. Just don't expect to be blown away by taste. read more

Food was not that good. Did not taste authentic. Portions were a good size but food was not great. Won't be back.

The staff was polite!! The food was pretty alright. I got the cashew shrimp and the flavor was there but not enough UMPH (if you know what I mean). The white rice on the side was so way overcooked. So much that I didn't eat it. The wonton soup was delicious! I would definitely come back for that. Little pieces of porkie goodness in the broth, yum! My husband ordered the vegetable lo mein and it was delicious, however, they were little noodles. Not thicker, like you expect lo mein. We still enjoyed it because the flavor was so yummy.. I was surprised to find this place only had 3 stars. Wing's is a Bexley institution, having recently celebrated their 50-year anniversary recently. Their patio offers great al-fresco dining, their wait staff is mainly made up of people whose second language is English, so it can take some extra effort to communicate with them effectively, but once you get to know them, they're a real hoot. I live right around the corner, so I go there often. Once you find what you like on their menu, it's easy to get hooked! They have a huge selection of whiskey/scotch/bourbon/rye, so trying all of those has also been a treat for me in the recent past. They're known for their Wor Sue Gai, and my personal favorite is the Chicken & Spinach Wonton off their "specials" menu. This is not just a restaurant -- it is a community with many kind regulars. Shout out to owner, Kenny and bartender, Woody! We always have some nice banter, and Woody can mix a pretty excellent cocktail. read more

I had low expectations for the quality of the restaurant's Chinese cuisine. Somehow, the service and food were even lower than expected. Everyone tells me this is a great place for drinking and in the basement they have a special collection of expensive whisky, but I don't drink. My spring roll was good and Ironically the bourbon selection is incredible. Those are the highlights. I've had General Tso's chicken all over the country and hands down this was the worst. Heavily battered and just fried with some not so good sauce poured over it. It was actually cold as was the chilled broccoli and uncooked carrot slices that came with it. This restaurant is insane. I'm so super stoked (alliteration!) that the best scotch collection in Columbus is at a mu-effin' Chinese restaurant. You just wouldn't expect it. For something like that to be the case, you basically have to assume that there is a scotch aficionado in some sort of decision-making position at the joint. My guess would be he was the suave, cool mofo working behind the bar. When I went to ask for a list to check out this extensive scotch selection, he informed me that they actually have about 150 different single malt scotches, and that not all of them are on the menu. Prices ranged from $7 to $195. Insane selection, sorted by region; can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it. I'd been at it for several nights now though, so I actually didn't partake. Return visit FTW! And this isn't one of those reviews where the yelper gives five stars based on the one outstanding aspect of a place; Wing's is Aces on all accounts. The decor is retro radical, especially the bar side, which features '50s/'60s era booths, an antique (but functional) cash register, and that damn red hue that gets me every time.[1] The food itself is beyond appetizing as well. Served in a metal serving dish, complete with lid to keep the heat in, my egg fu yung was some of the best I've had anywhere. The only disappointment is that the gravy, which is often vegetarian (veggie stock, flour, a lil sherry, soy and not much else), was almost certainly chicken or beef stock based. Imagine what a high-class Chinese restaurant in the 40s would have been... and that's Wing's. First things first--the name. It's not called Wing's because they it's about wings. Wing is the name of the owner! Next up--the interior. Wing's probably hasn't been updated in many, many decades, but it is all types of kitschy fabulous. Now--the food. The menu is extensive. A Chinese restaurant in the 40s would have had to have a wide appeal... Americanized Chinese dishes and other downright American meals, like steaks and other pieces of meat that your Grandma would have made. If you go into the food with the right expectations, it'll be a-ok. I had beef and broccoli, and it's exactly what I expected it to be. I also had white bean and ham soup (see what I mean about the menu?), and it was delicious! And now--the drinks. Wing's has one of the biggest scotch selections in Columbus! They also have some local spirits, like the Watershed gin I had. Last--the service. We had the most fabulous friendly and cranky server. She was swift and efficient--and really wanted nothing to do with us. She had several other customers to attend in the dining room, so there was no extra time for chit chat. Speaking of the other customers, my friends and I were the youngest in the restaurant by about 30-40 years. Currently there is a Delorean parked down the street from my residence. It has given me the illusion that I can travel through time, and when I stepped into Wing's last week, I thought my delusions might be true. The setting is a 1930's style Chinese Restaurant complete with Art Deco style fixtures and interior design. Dark, red, and woody are adjectives that I would use to describe the inside. I was taken aback by the size, it's so much smaller and intimate than I would have guessed. The clientele was old and probably started dining at Wing's when they were children. The bar is placed in the middle of the floor, and most of the lighting in the establishment stems from here. The bar is almost intrusive, but the Scotch selection is mind blowing. If memory serves me correctly, it spanned 4 pages in the drink menu. The service was kind and warm even though we stood out like sore thumbs against the regulars. Our server was an elderly Chinese gentleman that I can only guess was part of the family that must have owned Wing's since the 1930's. I ordered the House Lo Mein and was impressed that it ranked up there as some of the best House Lo Mein that I've had at a sit down Chinese Restaurant. Real lumps of crab meat instead of the CRABSTIX that might be served at lesser establishments were mixed in with whatever greens and shrimp and chicken came from the kitchen. The portion was beyond substantial and I took home leftovers. My dining companions also ordered some divine selections, including Singapore Noodles which were curry based, Orange Beef which had a mild flavor, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Mongolian Beef which was also mild. If you love beer, scotch and wine go to Wing's? yes yes for fresh veggies and quality meats in your chinese/american food. yes I used to work there (ten years on the weekend). Come here to get your wide selection of beers, scotch, and wines. there is a wine list by the bottle you have to request. Wine cellar in the basement. The scotch selection I've never seen anywhere else (there are some rare spirits there). Beer selection is about thirty varieties. The owner has been around this place since the forties when he was a chef and waiter there. Kept the same good recipes. This is the only place I'll order beef dishes because they use good quality beef and don't have to tenderize at all and still taste like beef. try the Spicy noodles, pepper steak, mongolian beef, general tso's chicken, cantonese style eggfooyoung.. etc. and don't forget about the american food. hamburger steaks and lyonnaise potatoes. I love to eat and drink here. when I lived in OH I frequent this place 3 times a week. I turned my friends on to it and now everytime they're in town they have to go to Wing's. read more

From what i've heard, the food used to be a lot better when they had the original owner but since then the food quality has decreased. The only consistently good food item i've had from them is their lo mein. I have not been to Wings for over 25 years and thought I would give it a try. The first thing I noticed is that the furniture and decorations had not changed. The spring roll should be renamed to the grease roll. The egg drop soup was actually good. The other 2 dishes were soaked in a bowlful of gravy. After draining off about a cup of gravy I could actually see my dish. My chicken and shrimp were both overcooked. I will go back to Billy Lee's with pleasure. I had wings years ago but couldn't really remember details. Decided to place a takeaway order and see if it was as good as I remembered. We ordered wor sue gai with steamed rice, and it was awful. The chicken was hard to cut through, like could barely get my knife through. We also got hot and sour soup, which tasted more sour than anything (almost spoiled). We got crab Rangoon which came with almost a ketchup jelly that was nothing like actual crab Rangoon. We also got sesame beef with spicy added, that actually was pretty good, had good flavor but the fried rice wasn't good. All in all the $40 spent was waisted in the trash. When I asked for sauce, they brought me a bowl that looked like dirty dish water and tasted like salt water. All of the food was terrible. I was in the mood for a Chinese place like I remembered going to as a kid. Once again, Yelp didn't disappoint and I found exactly where to find what I was in the mood for As others have said this is an old Bexely institution. I checked their website before I left and was happy to see that their active in the community with charity fundraisers etc. Also the restaurant continues to be run and owned by the same family that opened it decades ago. My first impression was that it was smaller than I expected but that's not a knock, it was spacious enough and I think I missed another room they have in the back. I liked how it has two sides; a more dimly lit side closer to the bar, and a more traditional set up on the other side. We were immediately greeted by the the original owner (I think) and given our choice of seats. The service was prompt and friendly. I hesitate to knock this place because I like the whole idea of it, but I would have to call the food closer to 3 stars. Don't get me wrong it's pretty good but, depending on your tastes, it probably won't be the best Chinese food you've had. I give them an extra star for the ambiance, the bizarro world scotch selection, and for it being what it is. Id like to go back and try more off the menu. read more
