That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

Decades earlier, Sneideman's wife said that he should make his own restaurant called "Skyscraper", in reference to New York City. Sneideman didn't end up opening a restaurant, but he did spend over 25 years in the culinary field where he spent time managing fast-casual restaurants. Eventually he decided that he wanted to work for himself and an opportunity for a new food truck came along. He finally had the chance to use the name "Skyscraper", and the focus of the menu became New York-style deli sandwiches. Many of the sandwiches feature corned beef or pastrami, such as 'Reubens' and 'Rachels'. Skyscraper Sandwiches can usually be found parked at breweries, wineries, farmers' markets, and various festivals throughout Connecticut. Sneideman is often assisted by members of his own family. My family and I sampled some of Skyscraper's delicious sandwiches this past autumn. We were visiting Long View Ciderhouse in Southington and Skyscraper Sandwiches was the scheduled food truck that day. I can't say no to a good Jewish-style deli sandwich. After looking over the menu, I ordered a "Turkey Cranberry Melt" (hand-carved roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, tomatoes, melted Swiss on grilled rye), my wife ordered the "Reuben" (pastrami, Swiss cheese, truck sauce, and sauerkraut on grilled rye), and our older son ordered the "Pastrami Grilled Cheese" (pastrami, melted Swiss, sweet onion jam on grilled rye). These were huge sandwiches and very filling! The meats were delicious as well as the rye bread that they use. The sandwiches paired well with our cider flights. I really hope that I run into Skyscraper Sandwiches again!

What a terrifically constructed sandwich with great ingredients. The rye bread was awesome and expertly grilled. The turkey was outstanding and good juicy. And check out the pics and see the unique way they grooved the turkey. Loved it. The Swiss - melted! The coleslaw tasted fresh and provided the needed crunchy texture. My one small note - I could have used more Truck Sauce (said in a Christopher Walken voice). It was a bit hard to pick up with the substantial stack of other ingredients. Skyscraper indeed! 4.5 Stars with a round up to 5. I'm watching you Skyscraper Truck

Their menu when I visited them at Coles Road Brewing in Berlin consisted of specialty hot dogs, build your own hot dogs, seasoned and topped tots, quesadillas and wraps. I ordered a hot dog with house kraut and spicy brown mustard and Ranch seasoned tots. Service was friendly and efficient. The tots were very good and they had a good crispy outer texture. The seasoning was flavorful. I was told that Rescue Dogs uses Sabrett dogs, which was not a name I knew. Sabrett makes at least a skinless beef Frank and a natural casing dog. I think this was the natural casing dog because I can see a skin in my pic. Sabrett is associated with New York hot dog styles and I saw that it has performed very well in taste tests against other national brands. I thought the dog had good flavor, but it wasn't as snappy as I like at least as cooked on this night. The kraut and mustard were both fairly good, but didn't stand out relative to my favorite area spot. I understand that Rescue Dogs is based in Wolcott and I've seen them on the Coles Road schedule a few times. Rescue Dogs is worth checking out, especially in light of the causes they support. 3.75 Stars
