I've driven by this bakery for years, but never knew they offered more than just wedding cakes! I recently found them featured on Instagram and decided to follow! This past week I stopped in to grab some goodies for a beach picnic. A few of my friends are trying to eat gluten free. The woman who waited on me was very patient and sweet and guided me to make sure I didn't get any of the French macarons that had any gluten. They were a huge hit with my friends. The picture below is how they came in the box. To bring to the picnic I put them on a plate so everyone could easily see the flavors. I was slightly disappointed they were packaged in such a small box and stacked. I also saw they had cake slices, and I had to indulge. These are definitely not gluten free, but was so delicious. I tried the rosé slice. I'll be back for sure when I want to try some more French macarons or to bring them somewhere! (With tax, a dozen macarons are $34. Wingate's Cakes puts the "butta" in buttercream. The icing tastes like a sweet butter confection, and if I'm being honest, if they sold just the icing I'd be happy to purchase. The cookies are magnificent and macaroons were divine. Can't go wrong with anything you purchase there. Can't wait to stop by again this weekend. We heard about a special bakery pop up at Wingate's Cakes and had to check them out. At first glance I saw some examples of their amazing cakes. Then looking at the display cases that they had set up around the shop, I saw all kinds of sweet goodies on display. With so many good things to try, we decided to split several things over the weekend. Monkey bars, lave cakes, chocolate strawberry donuts, double chocolate brownies, peanut butter bars, lemon bars, assorted macarons, cinnamon buns, and of course different cakes were all some of the fares offered. Among the favorites that I have tried were the cinnamon bun, chocolate strawberry donut, and peanut butter bar. It was a fun experience, and a great chance to try some tasty treats. We will definitely have to watch for more fun events from Wingate's! read more

I absolutely love this place. I send so many people, even ones I don't know I tell them to check out Wingate's cakes. I personally think they are the best around. I am sure they already know but they are very talented and great at what they do! It's nice to see people that are good at what they do especially during times like this. The shop is so cute too. My experience with Wingate Cakes was terrible. I ordered macarons for my daughter's baby shower. I paid $160.00 for 4 dozen. I kept them refrigerated until an hour before serving as Lauren suggested. Everyone who tried them took one bite, then threw the rest out, all complaining how terrible they were tasting like chemicals or cough syrup. I had no choice but to throw the majority of them in the barrel. I was upset and extremely disappointed as I continued to hear complaints from guests. I contacted Wingate by email that day and also followed up with three phone call voice messages throughout the week. Bad batch, owner finally responded a week later and offered 24 macarons. Due to this bad experience, I did not want any more of these macarons. She will not give any type of refund or credit. Be careful with Wingate, if your wedding cake is awful and you pay lots of money for it, you might get a small cake to have with your husband and that is only if you call and text multiple times. She said you are responsible to try it before it leaves her store. Have you ever seen people trying their pastry before they leave the store? She said once it leaves her store, she is no longer responsible. Bad business and a huge rip-off. read more

I'm so insanely impressed and grateful and just over the moon for the cake Lauren (the owner of Wingate's cakes) made for us. It was literally my dream wedding cake! Back when we first got engaged I made a list of my top 3 wedding priorities and cake was one of them. And we went on a very serious hunt tasting cakes because I was adamant it needed to be both beautiful AND delicious (many wedding cakes I've have in the past we're pretty but tasted like nothing). After looking at and speaking to about 15 different bakeries in the area, we felt so confident when we chose Lauren for our wedding. I am so amazed how she was able to hear hear all my crazy ideas and piece them together to literally make my dream wedding cake. On our wedding day, I cried when I finally saw it. It was literally exactly what I've always envisioned AND it tasted AMAZING!!!! We will 100% be visiting Newport again in the future for anniversaries, vacation, etc and will definitely be coming to her again for mini versions of our same cake. Every single guest at our wedding raved about our cake, both the style and the flavor. People were standing around it taking photos all night. I'm still in awe. We ate so much leftover cake the days after our wedding. I can't say enough good things and I am so grateful to have found Lauren!!! The color of our cake matched our theme perfectly, the detail was so on point with our style and vibe, the flowers were so dreamy and vibrant, and the height was AMAZING in creating such a grand presentation for a cake that only needed to feed a relatively small crowd. Lauren made my daughter's first birthday cake and it was absolutely amazing. I sent her a picture of the Alice in wonderland smash cake I wanted and she made it exactly like the picture. She also made a beautiful three tiered cake for all of the guests based on our Alice in wonderland theme. Not only were the cakes beautiful but they tasted delicious.
