It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.

As charlie said, this place was great back in 2006. I went there last Thursday and thought it was closed but it was open but lacking business. I ordered the orange chicken, which was great! As I finished my meal I wanted to stop in the restroom. It had been closed for unknown reasons. As I paid my meal the cashier put my money into the cash register and closed it without my change, he must have forgotten then I guess the manager did not want the cash register closed and yelled at him. The cash register was locked and could not be opened. I waited about 30 minutes wait for them to get my $14 change. During those 30 minutes of waiting a homeless man grabbed a dirty egg roll off the floor and walked out. A few kids slammed the hell out of the gum ball machine outside and it fell to the ground. As the delivery guy pulled up out of no where. He yelled something in Chinese as he entered, it scarred me because he was so loud. A car pulled up for a pick up order, the car was blasting music and there were a few ghetto individuals that thought it would be funny to tip the gum ball machine over for the second time today. As the man left with his pickup order he threw up some gang signs and left, almost hitting a Mack truck while making a u-turn. I remember the laundry place next to wing yum had an xbox in the back, I think it got stolen two days later. As the man opened the cash register I was revived to leave and stick to delivery. As I walked out of the restaurant wing yum was stormed by a bus filled with a crowd of hungry Chinese children on a school field trip, the bus driver was sweating so bad and almost fell over as he exited the bus because of how annoying the kids were. I was happy they managed to get my change out right then or I'd be having a headache for a few days because the children were so exited to be in the wing yum. i loved this place in 2006, this place has progressively gotten worse until its last days. i walked in one day and the place had changed completely, the store was revamped and i wanted to use the bathroom, it was in lock down. i ordered my meal and everything was alright, then i saw a man from Mexican decent running down the street, he had money in his hand and the police were after him. i turned around and the cashier was yelling and it sounded like chinese new year.the chair broke from under me and everything fell apart. a few mexican gang members walked in and started yelling at the cashier telling him he messed up the deliver order, the delivery car pulled up and it was in ruins it looked like it got jacked up. the place was in the hood and you risk the chance of getting attacked as soon as you leave the safety of the restaurant. man i loved this place, what the hell happened in 7 years, im just wondering how this place fell apart so badly. i support this place but it needs some serious upgrading. get ya money up read more
