This is the first Chinese takeout I've been to where it's plain fried rice and not pork fried rice For a plain fried rice, it was pretty flavorful. The chicken was well seasoned and tender. I ordered fried chicken wings, pork with broccoli, shrimp fried rice, and pepper steak and onion. I only taste soy sauce. I stopped here for the first time on my way home from work. I appreciated that the owner (a guess) was honest about the 40 minute wait (they were slammed). While waiting for dinner for my family of 5 I noticed the many regulars and the care they take with the preparation of everyone's food, and that they were out of some items (indication that things are made fresh). When I got home dinner was wonderful. Another reviewer mentioned that food was "made with care, dare I say love" and that reviewer is spot on. It's really odd to feel "cared for" from a Chinese take out dinner, but that's the truth of it. And, yes, it was very tasty too. read more

The food is great, amazing even., you might think this sounds cliche but they put alot of effort into making their stuff. Dare I say, made with LOVE!? They do not skip steps, they broil their spare ribs until its crispy, and fry on order. They make everything fresh. They even make their own dumplings by hand instead of using cheap frozen ones. I've eaten at dozens of Chinese food places, I use Joy Food Kitchen as the benchmark. "Its not as good as Joy Food" is a common thing I would think when I'm eating Chinese food else where. I have no idea what the other people are complaining about, it being greasy or flavorless. Well, it IS still classic American Chinese Take Out, it may be greasy, but it is definately not flavorless. Their service is simple as well, order, show up in 30 minutes, pick it up, pay with cash, leave. Whats there to be confused about? I am actually offended for them by reading some of these Karen-like reviews. First and last time going to this dump. Before discussing food, gotta review their service. Ordered over phone for pickup. When I came to pick up they had sign saying cash only. Not on website, not mentioned when placing order and not on their printed menu when I got there. They had no ability to take credit card, Apple or any digital method. As it was frustrating to have to waste time and energy to go home to get cash, asked if they would provide a discount and she dismissively said no and made no attempt to apologize. Spent 15 minutes round trip and when I got back my food wasn't even ready! Obviously, they did not expect me to return, so now have to wait for them to cook order. Calmly told woman she is making very poor service decision and that I will never return. Her response? "Get out". Amazing. Without getting into too many details, food was at best mediocre. One app and three entrees without a single one worthwhile. Dumplings half filled, under- seasoned dishes, mealy shrimp. Yuck. What a horrible experience, horrible food and even worse people. Tonight's food was meh at best. Egg foo young was over fried. Fried wantons were soft and chewy. Broccoli in garlic sauce was very stalky. Sliced chicken and vegetables rendered the chicken hard and chewy. Nothing great here. Just another generic Chinese take out with so-so food. read more

Standard issue Chinese take out. If your looking for an average run of the mill greasy spoon takeout then this place works. Tried 3 items. Chicken fried rice I found to be slightly above average. Chicken with broccoli was average (slightly more salty than other places). The boneless ribs were slightly below average... they were dry, not enough flavor, and not soft enough compared to other places. read more

My husband and I just moved to the area and decided it was time to find our new Chinese takeout place. We stumbled across Joy Food Kitchen, and boy are we happy!! We ordered a sesame chicken combo, a pork egg foo young combo, pan fried dumplings, and a wonton soup. The sesame chicken wasn't overly sticky sweet which is just how we like it. The egg foo young came with a darker sauce than normal which I'm not used to, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yum! The fried rice was actually brown and not yellow which always makes me happy. The egg rolls were a good size and very good and crispy, and funny enough, their duck sauce was soooo good! Not sure what they're doing different with that. The dumplings were spot on, and the dipping sauce was really good too. The wonton soup was decent. The wontons were good, but the broth wasn't super flavorful. I did add a little bit of soy sauce which helped, and I would still order it again. The only major downside is that they are cash only which we didn't realize when we ordered over the phone, and I'm glad I happened to have cash on me. Actually having cash is a rare occurrence, so we may not go there every time, but I highly recommend the food! I can't wait to taste other dishes! read more

I agree with other posts that this is the best Chinese takeout in the area. General Tso's chicken is crispy. Fresh ingredients and great flavor in all dishes. Will be back for sure. I love their vegetable egg rolls!! They are super delicious! I can (and have) psyched myself out about over take-out chinese to a point where I won't eat it after a couple of bites... but not here. The lady who worked there kept asking me whether or not I eat pork. I mean she's asking me this after the food is prepared, mind you. I asked her why she had to ask and there was no response. So I asked her again, and she yells at me saying " because you said you want vegetable fried rice ". So ? I don't get her point. I think it was something else that made her ask me that qn. hint hint. Also I think there are few reviews on this yelp for this business who only had 1 or 2 reviews at most. Another hint hint. Thirdly, the food was nothing to write home about because there was something like a gel thingy inside my curry chicken and also few chicken pieces had the consistency of rubber . I have been a customer of this establishment since I moved to Northvale. I honestly love the food, however, I was very dissappointed when my order was mistaken for two large orders instead of 1 large, 1 small even though I repeated myself. They failed to accept their mistake and I had to pay for both large orders. No big deal, but that is no way to treat long term customers. read more

I've been eating here since I was in middle school. Always great service and great food. Today, I come back from work late, and I order pickup near closing time. I pick up the food and bring it home. I open the bag expecting the usual, but it tastes sour. The beef is dry and has a rotten aroma to it. I call them to ask why this tastes and smells like this, and their answer? So far it seems to be the typical Chinese food. I've ordered a few times from here, unfortunately they don't make my Hunan chicken the way I like (a black bean sauce) but the food over all is ok. I haven't had any issues yet like a pool of oil in my chicken with broccoli. They only take cash and being that this a is a highly industrialized area with many industries and business's.
