Open space / not intimate My boyfriend and I scheduled an appointment based on these reviews. We sent over what we were interested in and we're so excited. We showed up 10 minutes early and waited in two seats by the door for 25 minutes and still we're not greeted. We didn't know who to talk to since everyone working was speaking with a guest and didn't acknowledge us even though we had to be let in via two security doors. We ended up leaving and getting lunch. I'm not sure if there was confusion as it was a busy Saturday afternoon but regardless the overall experience was not pleasant. I am giving two stars as I hope it was an honest mistake since these reviews are glowing. The space is a decent size but feels small for the amount of people they have and is very open. Each counter which they're positioned together is in a U Shape and has one worker and on the other side has seats for two guests. There are no dividers or rooms to go into, everything is on the floor and you can hear every conversation. The space was louder than expected when we went due to the size/current capacity, which you may want to consider based on what you're looking for. We were hoping for something quiet and intimate. This was a bit overwhelming for us and not a good fit for us in the end. I wish we knew about the set up prior to going so I have attached photos from Google in hopes it helps someone else. Unfortunately due to the experience we had a bit of a disappointing start in our journey but we're ultimately helped out by another store that was a better fit for us. read more

Komal at Windy City Diamonds is truly a miracle worker. My fiancée and I walked into Windy City after having booked some appointments at other jewelers on Wabash. I had read the wonderful reviews on Google Maps and figured it'd be worth it walk in. We met with Komal, who has an incredible knack for figuring out exactly what my fiancée wanted in a ring. For someone who might be a bit overwhelmed and particular about rings, Komal was able to quickly point us in the right direction. The most amazing part of Windy City is that their settings are completely customized. We conveyed the parts of all the settings we had already seen, and Komal sketched up a quick drawing while we talked. That sketch got sent it to a CAD designer, and we were able to see blueprints of the setting and make adjustments, then we were able to see a wax mold of the ring before it was cast in gold. The time between the wax mold and actually picking up the ring was less than two weeks. For something being completely made from scratch, this was amazing. We also got an fantastic price on the diamond itself, and Komal was very detailed about color, clarity and cut and what to look for in each, making sure to educate us on everything. The ring came out more beautiful than we ever could have hoped for, and Komal was helpful and communicative every single step of the way. read more

I found them when searching online for some way to polish a deeply tarnished inherited silver concho belt. I needed to know what it would cost to have it professionally polished because nothing I tried at home worked. We spent a lot of money here designing an engagement ring and I am saddened and disappointed to say that the whole process was unsatisfactory. I know the store went through a hard time with the riots and covid, but I don't think it is an excuse for the lack of service and quality I received. I tried to work with Garry and be open minded and patient but after many emails and visits I gave up. 1. First re-visit: I had to come in to ask for the small diamond prongs on my band to be filed down, Garry said this should have been done in the first place. With the amount of money I spent with him I expect the attention to detail to be 100% and it was not. Why did I have to ask for this to be done? 2. Second re-visit: I came back in because I did not like the hidden halo setting, this was a custom ring - why wasn't a wax mold created for me before creating the original ring and also when I requested the halo change - Garry knew I was very nervous about the custom ring process and end results. When I came in to remove the hidden halo I specifically said I want the setting to look EXACTLY the same just without the halo. Garry said sure no problem and that was it. So, I left expecting a delicate small prong upon my return. Garry did not communicate to me that the prong was going to be totally different, larger, and different shaped (see pic). So, when I came to pick up my ring, I was in shock at the difference and left crying. I was so disheartened that I just said put it back to how it was originally. 3. Third re-visit: I came to pick up my ring with the original halo setting put back on and was still charged a fee for this change even though this was not my fault. I have now spent waaaaay too much of my time and money. My options now? Return my ring for 50%, trade my diamond in for a more expensive diamond (def not giving them any more of my $$!), or keep trying to fix my current ring- no thanks! read more

Buyer beware, do not expect Windy City Diamonds to honor any of the favorable conditions they offer when you make a purchase. A year after purchasing an engagement ring I had to sell it. When I purchased the ring the policy was "After 30 days, GIA certified naturally Mined Diamonds are 70% refundable from the original purchase price, when accompanied by the original laboratory report, and in the original condition." When I tried to sell the diamond back to Windy City Diamonds, they informed me they would only refund me 50% of what I paid, despite the diamond being in original condition and having the proper documentation. Rather than delivering this news in a sympathetic tone, they said, "we spoke to our lawyers and we don't have to pay you 70%". If you are considering buying from Windy City Diamonds, do not be swayed by any of the policies they claim to offer (30 day refund policy, post 30 day refund policy, lifetime upgrade policy). Prior to this, I was generally happy with the ring purchasing process and would have considered purchasing from them again. They were helpful and communicative during the diamond selection and customization process, however, any of the perks they offer are essentially worthless. read more

I couldn't believe my experience after all the rave reviews I've read but mine was a little different. First, the process was very rushed and not easy. The place was always busy, which I thought was a good thing, but it was hard to get my fiancee's engagement ring right and the staff there just said whatever you want, but we needed more guidance. After all that, the ring we received was not exactly what we asked for. When we approached them the sales person told my fiancé to just try it for a while before they change it. But the kicker came when the engagement broke off and I contacted Windy City to return the ring and was told I would only get 50% of the purchase price back because it had been over 30 days, it was barely over 30 days. Ok, I get not getting all of it back, but 50% of a ring that expensive is just not acceptable. I'll never go back and will tell anyone and everyone I know to avoid this place and find someone who is a) easier to deal with and b) has a more rational return policy. read more

A little bit disappointed in my wedding band. From the beginning I said I wanted 2 stone shapes only and I ended up with something different and was never told it would be different than we had discussed for several months. There was no quote or anything to see what stones the ring would contain and in the final CADs I received were correct, and then the wax model it was hard to tell because they were so small. We started the process 5 months before our wedding and didn't get the ring until a week before we left for our wedding. Because it was custom I had to leave my engagement ring with them for about 1.5-2 months and it would've been fine but I would drop it off and then have to pick it up on and off instead of them giving a realistic timeline they would need. We probably made 10 trips all together and it wasn't close by. The quality is good but the piece is not what I had envisioned and I will have to get a new one somewhere else. read more
