I stopped by this wine shop to grab a bottle of Lamarca while waiting for my cake to be fixed at a nearby bakery. They have a really nice selection with wines from all over the world. Inside is really cute and cozy, and although they have a large selection, you don't get overwhelmed when you walk in. There were multiple people inside ready to help and assist me in making my decision. They didn't have any Lamarca, which I was sad about (it's my fave). I ended up buying a bottle of sparkling wine from Valencia, Spain. It was a brut, so it was dry, but it still had some underlying sweet notes. We enjoyed it with our meal so I will definitely be back to check out more of their selection. read more

It's hit or miss with the wine but also with the staff. A couple of folks are really sweet and professional, but a couple are also quite off, and sometimes inappropriate. Also, make an effort to greet a customer who greets you. There are lots of in-jokes behind the counter and it sometimes feels like I'm interrupting when I make a purchase. I've had bad experiences with several wines, a couple just super sour with nothing else going on, and one noticeably off (to the point where the wines were undrinkable, and literally went down the drain). Either the buyer has an odd palate or somehow the wines are being stored badly prior to display. Otherwise, the selection is standard rather than discerning. Especially if it's a quintessentially Park Slope place like Windsor Wine Merchants. (I mean, c'mon. It was a former soda shop and candy store... and you can tell, because a lot of the decor like the signs and tiled floor are the same.) I bought Everclear once here--probably the only place that sells it in Park Slope-- which I highly recommend if you're interested in making Working Professional Jungle Juice™ during quarantine and want to feel like you're back in college, and, you know, not in a pandemic. I don't drink wine and I don't care who knows it! Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I'm singularly focused on beer, beer, beer. However, some of my best friends drink wine so sometimes I have to buy wine prior to a visit. Since I don't know much about wine, the review is based on the customer experience. The guys behind the counter were super helpful and very proactive in making sure I got what I needed. The store itself is really cool...I love the old candy store stained glass window (see picture). They seemed to have a big selection and the store was bustling with smiling customers when I was there. The prices seemed reasonable, although I don't have much of a frame of reference. Give this place a shot and see if you have a positive experience too, then if you do you can say, "Wow, that Bill T. guy sure is wise about wine stores, even if he doesn't drink the stuff". This is a great local wine/spirits store. They have a solid selection (I've been particularly impressed with their mezcal/tequila) and prices are mostly reasonable - although they don't have very many options for wine under $15/$20. The staff is super friendly and great at making recommendations if you need help making a choice. They require masks and all of the staff and every patron I've seen is always properly masked up. This will never replace Juicebox or Astor as my favorite liquor store but sometimes I'm too lazy to go into Manhattan or walk up that damn hill and I'm grateful to have this place in the neighborhood! read more

New to the area and was craving some wine tonight! I came in 10 minutes before they closed, but the gentleman was still happy to help. They have a huge selection. I'm in my early 20's and am not very familiar with brands, but I told the guy I was looking for something "white, sweet, and not too expensive". He immediately picked something out for me, a moscato which is what I usually go for. The guy behind the counter who checked me out was so friendly as well! The wine was absolutely delicious! And only $15! Thank you both so much! I can't say enough of the service I received tonight, in many wine stores I often get completely disregarded because of my age. I don't know how I haven't noticed this place before! I grew up in Park Slope and have been on this strip several times for errands. Yesterday I needed wine and was in the area and we finally met. The old fashioned storefront looked so immaculate I was sure it had to be a reproduction. Inside, the person behind the desk was very friendly and able to tell me many years ago (probably in the 50s or 60s) this used to be a soda shop called Wedders where old timers from the neighborhood used to come for sodas/egg creams. According to Windsor Wine Merchants website, when they took over the the signage was buried deep under awnings and other signs. They refurbished the stained glass, tin ceiling and floors so they're all original. Seemed to have a good selection here. Will definitely come back when I'm in the neighborhood! read more

This store just earned many more points in my book for carrying my favorite Sicilian red, the elusive Il Frappato, from a winemaker I'd never seen before (a store employee told me it was the best of its kind that he'd ever tasted)--the Azienda Agricola Cos 2007. Not many wine stores carry this grape varietal, and, if they do, it's usually always from another winemaker, which is quite good, but not as good as the one carried by Windsor Wines. read more

Horrible Customer service. Stopped by to grab a couple bottles of booze. Waited in line, when I was called over to be checked out I noticed the dudes voice was odd. He spoke slow and awkard, but I didn't think too much of it. As I'm checking out the guy asks me where I'm from, I thought to myself maybe he recognizes me or he thought he picked up on some sort of accent. Instead he begins to tell that where I'm from I didn't learn how to say please and thank you. Totally caught off guard, completely rude, no idea what he was talking about and he totally decided to F with me when he called me over. I've been ignored here before waiting for the two staff members behind the counter to finish their dumb jokes or conversations before checking out. Annoyingly bad selection of wine. I live down the street, but only shop here when I absolutely have to. I order online or go to 7th or 5th Aves instead. The guy who buys their wine has a seriously messed up palate. I have literally never had a good bottle of wine from here. My husband is a wine buyer and collector and he hasn't been able to find a decent bottle in this place either. I will never go to another wine shop as long as I am in this neighborhood. While it helps that this particular wine shop happens to be extremely close to where I live, it also has the best service anywhere. Every time that I come here to pick out a bottle of wine, I am approaches by someone offering to help me. I never come in feeling awkward by the confusing labels and a "what do YOU know about wine" atmosphere - rather, I am always guided in picking a wine that would suit me best. Whereas I usually come in having done my research and looking for a specific type of wine, this is totally unnecessary, as the customer service individuals know very well what wines pair best with the food you would like to match it to. The individuals who work here are extremely knowledgeable about wine and love to talk about it to anyone who is willing to listen - they seem to be truly passionate about the service they can provide. As for the price of the wines, it really is what you make it to be - the individuals who work here never induce pressure to buy the expensive wines and are ready with recommendations within any price range you are working with. This renovated soda fountain-turned wine store is an adorable part of the Windsor Terrace slash Park Slope border 'hood. Although the prices aren't low, the customer service is friendly and helpful. They have a well-curated selection of wines and be sure to check out the free tastings on Fridays from 6-8pm. While I don't like to admit it, I frequent this establishment often. The selection is great, and their super polite and helpful staff is so knowledgeable about the wines it's astounding. One time I was stuck staring at their great wall of wines when a vino master employee approached. "Can I help you find something?" he asked. "I'm looking for a pizza wine." The staff is good people ( to whom I will be forever grateful for suggesting Brinley Gold Coconut Rum over the higher-priced Malibu), and the wine selection is varied and well-priced. There is no greeting, or even a thank you after you have paid. How do you run a business this way?? There is no reason to buy wine here unless you really have to. Nicely arranged by region, not by type of wine. This is good when you want something very specific, but sort of annoying when you're looking for a certain type and an immediate price comparison. They don't sell the cheap stuff, which was moderately annoying when all I wanted was 3 bottles of cheap champagne for a New Year's party and ended up with 2 bottles of $20 champagne and a small bottle of Tito's vodka. Fields had a big upgrade. The space is bigger, cleaner and much more attractive. They gained a really cool stained glass storefront that had been hidden by previous owners, and the selection is a lot bigger. I've been twice, and the staff were always really helpful. Quick and Simple. I think the basic premise here is that they just carry good wine. Whatever the cost, I've never had a bad recommendation. As often happens, I didn't fully appreciate them until I grabbed a bottle down on 8th Ave the other day. Asked for a cold white recommendation. It was not good. I was actually surprised, since I'd been drinking such good wines all year at Windsor. One more thing: I've asked them if I could leave a key a few times for visiting friends when we left out of town. They were totally cool with it, which was so appreciated. Surprise, I have to give away my favorite wine locale in Brooklyn! It's not uncommon for me to go in and intend to buy 1 leave with 6 bottles that's because everyone from their owners to employees are all knowledgeable sommeliers and quite renaissance when it comes to the regions that they have. No surprise I like Alsatian red, if they ever get it again, I'll buy a case but what I get when I go there is great customer service and bright personalities, oh yeah, their collection and selection is vetted and tested, be it a Northern Italian vineyard with grapes from lava dirt or Germany, France, Spain, and California (Sonoma is a 4-letter word to me), they have what your looking for and will drink. I can go in there and will always get a unique selection with a story behind it; so if you're ever drinking my wine, there is a strong likelihood it came from here. Newly opened wine shop on the site of a former pet store. Many in the nabe wondered what was opening here as the sign in front displayed in stained glass glory of an ice-cream shop of yore. Sadly for some, an old-fashioned diner or sweet shop was not to be. Instead, a big, beautiful and friendly wine store. I always go to WW to pick up my 2 favorite Montepulciano d'Abruzzo vini (Cantina Zaccagnini and Masciarelli. They happen to have BOTH!) and end up leaving with much more than I bargained for! One night as I wandered around looking for a white wine to go with a seafood dinner I was cooking, one of the dudes who works there walked up to me and said "would you like to try what i'm trying?" Sure! He said they just got it in and they like to know what they're selling. Great customer service has its perks He had just opened up a verde, one of my favorite types of 'white' wines. It's got this refreshing effervescent quality to it and this particular one was super tasty. So of course, I bought and served it and it was delicious! Today I walked again in to restock my MdA, and I ended up tasting and buying Gin. I always taste something new and delicious here. This is a very nice shop with cool staff and I'm glad they're in the neighborhood! WW would get a fifth star if they instituted a frequent buyer card! PRETTY PLEASE!? read more

The proprietor and other folks who work here are very friendly and helpful in a non-pushy way. They have a good selection of wines in a wide price range. Many of the whites are available chilled. They also have a lot of special wines, like vegan, organic, and kosher, that are helpfully labeled. The store is located in what looks like an old drugstore/soda fountain, so there's a beautiful stained glass window on the storefront advertising candy and ice cream, which is pretty quaint. This place always has nice window displays and they have free dog biscuits! So basically, it's the friendliest neighborhood liquor store ever. read more

Average people want to be explained what's good, what to buy and why, not scoffed at because of their pedestrian consumer tastes.
