I've been buying guitars for 40 years and I've spent quite a bit of money on high-end guitars. My first experience with Detroit Guitar was this past July and I have never had a company jump through so many hoops to please me. Charlie Lorenzi is probably one of the best salesmen I have ever met. He listened to my needs, made a few suggestions, and helped me get what I've been saving up for. Upon getting the guitar, something was amiss and I contacted Charlie. I was impressed with the extent he went to to correct the issue. He actually contacted the manufacturer of the guitar I purchased and worked it out so that the guitar pickups were replaced to my needs. It's rare that you find a company that understands a guitar player's needs and wants to help you be happy as a professional musician. I had no doubt that he would stand by me until I was happy. Like I said, don't hesitate to buy a guitar from Detroit Guitars. They're a good company, old-fashioned customer service. Just a great, fun company to buy a guitar from.

However, not many used guitars... at least, I didn't see any. Nor were there a variety of instruments at lower price points. It's essentially a guitar shop for lawyers and dentists. Not my jam.

Buying a violin from Mr. Moen was, quite simply, one of the most enjoyable and satisfying…read moreexperiences I've ever had of buying something you can hold in your hands. Earlier this year, I found his name while searching for someone local who could sell my family a violin by Scott Cao, Snow, or Eastman. I couldn't find anyone else closer than Toledo that sells any of these highly-regarded names. I understand that Eastman makes some violins under other names, but it's hard to shop that way. We liked Mr. Moen's selection better than that of Shar and other sellers we looked at. Many vendors have larger showrooms with a larger total number of choices, but the combination of quality and price was much better with Moen. He also makes his own violins, after a thorough apprenticeship. We didn't try those, as we were looking for a relatively simple intermediate-level violin. But his expertise and friendly nature are just amazing. The violin we chose sounded better than others we tried elsewhere that cost 2-3 times more, so I'm guessing his set-up skills are a lot better than those of non-luthiers. And for anyone that has never met a pleasant and fun lawyer, be aware that he's also an attorney who specializes in assisting musicians and music organizations! After hearing this, it gave me an excuse to bombard him with a dozen more questions, none directly related to the instruments he sells :) He answered them all without the slightest grimace.

I dropped off my trumpet for some work and picked up a few items and I loved how friendly the staff. For repairs they gave a basic quote and then they will call once the instrument has been checked out for a final quote. I have no complaints, though I wish their Waterford store had a bigger selection of brass and woodwinds to look through. Everyone I met today was super friendly. I will update when I get my horn back and tell about the workmanship and final price compared to the original quote.
