"As good as it gets" indeed!…read more I studied piano with Mary for ten years (starting when I was 5) and voice for three years (starting when I was 12). While she takes music seriously and helps you to become the best musician you can be, she never loses sight of what's really important: music should bring joy to your life! While her standards and expectations (for both herself and her students) are very high, she understood me well enough to know when to push and when to back off just a bit. Lessons with Mary taught me much more than just how to read music and play the piano. She taught me how to break down big challenges into manageable pieces, how to set a goal and reach it (auditions, auditions, auditions), how to manage performance nerves, how to recover from a poor performance ("learn from it and let it go"), and how to deal with the ups and downs of life (remember, we were together for 10 years). She was my biggest critic (although always constructively) and my biggest cheerleader. Whether you want to gain admission to a prestigious music school and become a professional musician (as some of her students have done) ,or just be a really good musician who enjoys playing "just for fun", Mary can help you get there.

What I really appreciated about studying with Mary is that she taught me valuable lessons about…read moreboth music and life. One concept I particularly remember learning is that it is okay to not be perfect. I had always been under the impression that it is imperative to get every single note right, so I would often get frustrated when I missed notes. I finally broke down during one of my lessons and started crying. When I told Mary why I was upset, I feared that she would be disappointed in me, but then she gave me a completely new perspective on playing the piano-- the idea that it's not all about the notes but rather more about the musicality. Mary explained that what's more important is creating the mood of the music; a pianist's interpretation of the piece is what truly excites the audience. She began guiding me through various movement exercises in order to allow me to be more expressive, and I appreciated how patient and encouraging she was during the process. Over time, as I embraced the idea of musicality more, I realized I had never had so much fun playing the piano. In fact, being more expressive actually made it easier for me to get the notes right as well, since there was less tension in my body. On the whole, I became a better musician. But more importantly, I changed my outlook on life in general. During that same pivotal piano lesson, Mary told me that just as it's okay if a few notes are wrong here and there, it's okay if not everything is perfect in life--it's about making the most of whatever comes your way and focusing on the big picture. And just as I began to feel less stressed about playing the piano, I began to feel less stressed in general. I started learning to keep a positive attitude in everything I do, knowing that I will be successful in the long term as long as I try my hardest. I stopped worrying about every small thing in life, which made me feel much better as a person. I'm very grateful for all of the support and encouragement Mary has given me. Because of my experiences in her studio, I've learned to consider playing the piano more in terms of artistry, and I've learned to pick myself up from the obstacles that appear in my life--lessons that I will carry with me as I move on into the future.

I had a great experience at Music Go Round. This was the only store within 100 miles of me that had…read morea particular instrument I was interested in, a Yamaha 604FM. I called them the day prior and spent 17 minutes on the phone talking to an employee that took a lot of time to go over all the details and history of the instrument, then plugged it in and played it for a while before coming back to give me their assessment. The employee had a great attitude and provided incredible customer service. He offered to put it on hold so I could check it out, and the next day I drove over an hour to check it out. Upon parking outside the store I noticed a few bad reviews for the store, so after getting my hands on the bass I point blank asked all the employees about those reviews, which I know was unexpected and jarring. Without taking offense they addressed all of those reviews and the supposed issues for an extended period of time, and after hearing their side and being a good judge of character, I was completely put at ease. I traded in my old bass and got a price that was higher than I was expecting. They are very transparent about how they price and pay out for used instruments. I felt it was more than fair, and I put the trade in value towards the Yamaha. As i said, I live far from there, so I knew going in if I had ANY concerns I would leave without the bass, because problems would mean a 2+ hour round trip to deal with them, but I truly felt like I was getting a great deal from good people. If anything happens down the line I will update the review, but for now, 5 stars, great experience.

While I didn't end up buying anything, I was glad I stopped in. Two things you should know about me: 15 years later I still look like a teen and wear cut-off gloves, and, I have the ballerina's grace of a bull in a china shop. This pretty much bars me from any antique store explorations. So when I hear "antique" in the name, I automatically think I'll be unwelcome. Apple Annie's turned all my expectations right on their noggin'. The two women working here are magnificent. They immediately welcomed us. I browsed without feeing judged or patrolled. The place itself is cozy without feeling cluttered - the walls are a warm yellow. Please forgive my photographs because they don't do any justice to the beauty of the merchandise or the layout of the store. They have everything from civil war era items to stuff from the 1980s - prices range from a couple bucks to $500+. There are books to dvds to clothing to shoes to jewelry to glasses to postcards to furniture. I find things to be VERY reasonably priced. Many times I've picked up items, flipped them around expecting a cost I can't afford, and then being very pleasantly surprised to see that I can! Although I had the genuine intent of buying a fur cape and thus tried many on, Linda and Lynn (they even introduced themselves later!) didn't seem at all concerned whether or not I was going to actually buy something. This I liked a lot. Unfortunately, the piece I fell in love with was way out my price range (justly so). I am, however, already musing on how I can save up money for the buy in the future. A truly superb collection of hand-selected objects with wonderful shopkeepers. I come here to see what's new (nice things get snagged mighty quick so don't sleep!) and pretty much anytime I need a gift for any friend who appreciates old beautiful things. What a treasure trove.

He was very patient and did not rush me at all. I was indifferent about ordering an expensive guitar out of state that I hadn't seen or played. To confirm the appearance of the website photos, Scott also sent photos from his own phone. We agreed on a competitive price including shipping. Before shipping, I also spoke to the guitar tech, Dave. We discussed the setup and action. He changed strings, polished the frets, treated the fingerboard and lowered the action. Both Scott and Dave were very friendly and professional throughout the sales process. The guitar showed up a day early, well packed and in perfect condition. Not a single scratch or blemish. It's a beautiful instrument and exactly as described on the RCMC site. Incredibly build quality. Next level compared to my Gibson SG Standard '61. It plays great and sounds fantastic. It's definitely a keeper and a perfect compliment to my Gibson. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Scott and Dave again. They support an honest shop of high integrity. I'd definitely recommend checking them out. Cheers! \m/ \m/
