I purchased a pair of certified pre-owned Wilson Sasha speakers from Paragon. They were meticulously packed and shipped out to my home. Richard came out for professional setup. He was extremely knowledgeable and took his time to achieve the best possible sound in my room. I was floored at how much better the speakers sounded after his consultation. Soundstage is much wider and the bass energy more controlled. Time alignment of highs was improved after he recommended the taller spikes for the upper module. Any store that can have more than 20 different audio components manufactured by McIntosh deserves to be noticed! The venerable brand that brought hippies the sound and soundtracks of their lives (possibly unknowingly) was in fact the driving force behind the Grateful Dead's famous "Wall of Sound." Paragon is a classic (as in 1980s heyday) high-end audio shop. At best a place to drop dukets and at worst, a total men's club (events with elegant scotch, bourbon, wine and cigars). Over the past 10-years or so I've seen the store expand and its fleet of delivery and service vehicles grow. Just spent $70K on a McIntosh home entertainment center? They'll install, balance and dial it in for you. I do not know if they have a service shop but I know from talking to techs in California that this brand seldom needs repairs. Our recent visit was a gathering of like-minded friends with a long history of audiophile (and record collecting) tendencies. We arrived in the last hour or so of their standard work day and were greeted immediately. Our primary interest was listening to the new McIntosh integrated hybrid amplifier ($3500.00) through their demo setups (several rooms with all their high-end brands and speakers). We also got to audition a number of top dollar headphones. One cool thing was they let us rock out (behind closed doors) to just about anything we wanted to hear! One tip, ask about any open boxed specials, factory refurbished deals and possible hookups for like new gear. In this expensive hobby there's always someone with 'upgradeitus' and those looking for low-hanging fruit can sometimes benefit. read more

I was considering purchasing a Pro-Ject turntable online and found out Paragon was an authorized dealer. It was great to actually fine a local audiophile store rather than having to resort to an online purchase. The staff were super friendly and took lots of time to discuss turntable options with me, after purchase set up and on-going care they offer. I highly recommend for anyone who would like to discuss purchase options with people who are knowledgeable and passionate about the products they sell. I found out that Paragon had special deal for a discontinued Wadia a340 mono-block amps. I contacted Richard at Paragon directly and because Richard was out of town, Amanda helped me with my purchase. Amanda answered all my questions,accepted my offer, accommodate my request for split payment between my 2 credit cards, let me choose serial numbers of the mono-block amps from their remaining inventory, follow up with tracking number and always prompt and nice in responding to my emails. The amps arrived today and it is just as described, brand new, sealed in the box. I am very happy and satisfied with my buying experience from Amanda and Paragon. This place is a pretty awesome place. The first guy helping us was very nice and knowledgeable but he passed us on to another employee who acted like we weren't good enough to be there. Very snooty and talked down to us the entire time. Their equipment was top notch and they have a room that has one of the most expensive sound systems in the world...it was pretty insane to hear music that amazing! We contemplated buying one of their speaker sets but I refused to due to the rude employee, so we tried another music store. read more

I had such high hopes for this store and I was unfortunately let down big time. I made a trip w/my wife to Ann Arbor and I was excited to tour the store. We were the only customers in the whole store and it is a big store. The store representatives seemed very careless and didn't want to help at all. I like audio/video equipment and I have a fairly good setup myself. I'm seriously interested in upgrading my hardware in the next couple of months hence my visit to Paragon.I've heard great things about this place in regards to selection and I have to agree. The only compliment I'll give this store is for the selection. I'm used to shopping in the Magnolia section of Best Buy and I have to say that BestBuy offers far superior customer service. This store sells very high end equipment..... speakers for example that sell for 200,000 dollars. Wow!!! Out of my price range, but I am willing to spend around 10K which isn't a small amount in my opinion. Paragon has such a stereotypical stance on this high end equipment. The employee looked at us as if he didn't want us in his store. The smug face of "you cant afford our equipment, DON'T BOTHER US." Im sure that they guys get a lot of "lookers" in their store that are wasting their time but what happened to not judging a book by its cover. Wouldn't it be nice for a store like this to be welcoming and educational. I would love to learn more about this science. Anyway, like I said, go for the selection and not the customer service. Its like pulling teeth for a price (no price tags), and you have to beg for them to give you a tour or let you listen to any of this beautiful equipment. read more

We were looking for a new high-end audio system and found Paragon through a web search for stereo stores near us, and I'm glad we did. Who knew we had such a place within an hours drive. We visited the store and were amazed at the selection of wonderful equipment. Our salesman, Ron, spent a few hours with us getting to know what we were looking for and demonstrating systems that fit our needs. We settled on a McIntosh analog system with Sonus Faber speakers that is absolutely wonderful. Within two weeks Ron contacted us to let us know all of our equipment had arrived at the store and to schedule a date for installation. We had two installers arrive at our home the next day and they spent three hours unboxing our system and setting it up for us. Both were very knowledgeable and took great pride in the equipment and company that they work for. By the time they left we had a beautiful new McIntosh and Sonus Faber system installed. Ron made a follow up call after installation to make sure we were happy with our system. Both my wife and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience with Paragon and their staff!! They helped on ordering my service request to modify and re-calibrate my speaker cable. Originally I was talking to the manufacture directly and need Paragon's help for all the logistics. Amanda from Paragon called within 10 minutes after the manufacture reached out for my request. Laid out a detail logistics and expectation on the request and the manufacture get my order right away. Matt help set up my 35+ years old Kenwood turntable with a new cartridge. Not a high purchase (cartridge) however Matt took the time to install it and make sure it was balanced. Never sounded as good when he "tested" it through McIntosh. Very good customer service. Yes this is a very high end shop with the pricing to prove. However customer service is priceless. I was in the market for a serious music system, and paid a visit to this store for a demo of Sonus Faber Chameleon and Venere 1.5 speakers, and a JL Audio d108 subwoofer. The salesman exhibited great knowledge, and took time to answer all my questions. I didn't feel rushed at all, but found the equipment to be beyond my budget (The speaker stands alone for the Venere 1.5 was $400, and is essential to get the best performance from this speaker) I was trying to get a good deal on a used Parasound Halo integrated amp. I found a used one on Audiogon for 3\4th the price of a brand new one. I called up Parasound about the warranty, and was warned against the purchase of used gear from an online marketplace, as the warranty is only valid for the original purchaser. Parasound then informed this store, and when I called up this store, they seemed a bit spooked about losing my business to a used audio marketplace like Audiogon. They did have a mildly used unit for $2k, but I ended up not buying the unit, and went for something else. So the thing is, retailers have a 40-50% markup on audio equipment. This doesn't mean the store is becoming rich, and the high end audio business isn't all that profitable, after taking into account rents, salaries and so forth. So if you try to hunt for bargains like me, don't be surprised to get this reaction. If you are comfortable buying from an internet-direct dealer, you may be able to get a better product for the money. However, a lot of people are not comfortable with this, so a retailer like Paragon is an asset for them. I imagine that for someone with a higher budget than me, this store will take excellent care of them. I ended up buying all my stereo equipment from internet-direct retailers. read more
