yeah I agree with other reviews, don't want to shop here, has decent mid range gear for fb marketplace price but do NOT bring a guitar around if you care about it. Great selection of gear and great deals but ridiculous hours on the weekends. The A2 location is flanked by an Old Navy and a Ross but is closed at 6pm on Saturday afternoon. The last time I was there the parking lot was filled with dudes sitting in their cars with no place to go. They were waiting for their significant other to come out of the 2 stores with their future return items in hand. While most musicians don't even get up till noon on a Saturday and probably don't leave the house till 6pm they need not worry because Music Go Round is open till 8pm on Mondays. read more

BEWARE Took a couple of amps there to get repaired. They said they contracted with somebody from Columbus, Ohio to do the work. I left the amps with a note on each to call me to give me an estimate before repairs were to be done. a few months past, and I tried to call to find out about the amps, and Music around gave me the number of the guy doing the repairs. I called him, no return calls. At no point did the guy doing the repairs Call me before doing the repairs, nor did I have any voicemail messages ever left for me. 4 1/2 months went by, and I called Music Go Round to find out what was going on with the amps, and they had them sitting in the store, and no one bothered to call me. the guy told me the one amp was going to be $80, and the other amp was going to be $200, where the cost to repair them with suspiciously the same amount as it would be to just buy a new one. So here's the scam: They didn't call me, and if I don't call them back, they can claim the amps as a abandoned and sell them for pure profit. The repair guy did not call me to tell me how much it would be, so I'm stuck paying whatever they decide to charge me. If I do pay the amount and get my amps back, then they have also made a boatload of money. After I called them, I asked for a return phone call from the manager, who allegedly is only there in the mornings, and never got a callback. Not good business practices, and highly suspect at best. read more

Really an exciting place to browse around and see what they have new in stock. I have never been disappointed, as I can try out a very wide variety of guitars - - all at very good prices. The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I brought in a couple old violins and I was pretty happy with the offer. Never a heavy handed sales environment. Instead a place that attracts people who love to play music and see what new things may have arrived at the store. read more

This store is great for scoring well priced used guitars, amps and effects pedals. I've bought a few guitars, pedals and an amp over the years and they were all great deals. Also sold some gear over the years and the prices they pay are good. Also great for strings and quick guitar fixes. They also have their stock online if you can't swing by in person. I've definitely spotted some cool gear that way as well. read more

Depends who is there. About a third of the folks are helpful and knowledgable. The rest are the normal patronizing sexist guys who always work in these places. I am a guy btw. But this behavior ruins it for everyone. My two favorite ways to test these guys: 1. Pretend I don't know stuff and see what they say. Amazing confidently ignorant crap just rolls out. 2. Tell them about some super low level thing I am doing, like an open mic or an outdoor benefit, and see what they say. The good ones say appropriately normal things, or maybe nothing much at all. Most will say something remarkably creative, and designed to separate themselves from the customer. It is super weird and unpleasant to be around. The saving grace of the shop is that selective persistence will yield great deals. I have about five items I would not want to ever part with bought there. read more

I was trying to track down a very specific guitar for my son for Xmas, I'd tried all of Metro Detroit and struck out. I went online and through the magic of googling found it at this store. Off to Ann Arbor I headed. It was closed when I left, but I called while still enroute at 1 to tell them I was on my way and please don't sell it. When I got there I told them I had called, the young man I had talked to said 'That was me', and went and got the guitar. He checked it over, did some neck adjustments, tuned it and got me a gig bag. He could not have been nicer or friendlier, his name was Evan. He clearly knew what he was doing and wasn't just a clerk. The price was really reasonable and I walked out of there a happy camper and mom. The guitar is beautiful. The store was clean, everyone was professional, the equipment and gear in there was very organized and set up nicely. If I needed something again, I would definitely return. read more

So, you know how when you buy a used car, the smart move is to take it to a mechanic you trust, to get it actually running well? This, of course, requires a mechanic that you trust: once I find one, I tend to treat them like solid gold. Music Go Round AA is like that, but for guitars. Got my S/O a sweet-sounding acoustic that she really likes. Sold 'em a solid-body bass, bought an electric one. But really, it's the setups that do it for me. They really treat guitars right here: when I get a guitar from other sources, I take it here to get a setup. Also, they sometimes get some *interesting* stuff in from time-to-time: worth keeping an eye on. Just don't buy anything I want, ok? :) read more

I had a good experience here. I bought a used electric guitar and amp. I don't know anything about them, and had never bought this type of thing previously. They helped me try out a bunch of options, and were very informative without any pressure. They understood that I would want to save money, and had a certain budget, etc. The used amp I got started acting up, and I was able to return it with no problem. I'm surprised to see the negative reviews here. I see a few people calling the salesmen condescending but my experience has been quite the opposite. I've had nothing but great low-pressure experiences here. I've been to similar stores in the past and have experienced high pressure when I want to walk out without buying anything, but I've never experienced that here. They seem to really take your best interests at heart. For example I was once looking at a guitar in the ~$500 range and a staff member came up to me questioning what I was looking for in a guitar and when I explained what I was after they showed me another instrument that fit me better, but it was half the cost. It was a much better fit for me and it was nice feeling like they were actually trying to cater to my needs rather than up-sell me on something I didn't really need, so kudos for that! I also disagree with the reviewer who said that this place only caters to beginners and they only offer cheap gear. That is absolutely not the case, I've found so many little gems in this store at very reasonably prices. From beautiful G&L basses, to really nice Yamaha series HS monitors, to a gorgeous limited edition sea foam green American tele, and much more. Yes, they do have low quality cheap gear for beginners, but they also have premium gear as well. You might have to check back from time to time because they largely sell used stuff, but there's almost always something for everyone regardless of your skill level. I have never been disappointed with their offerings and service. I have spent way too much money here (not because they're expensive rather because I'm obsessive) and have bought basses, guitars, monitors, cables, bass amps, guitar amps, and plenty of small items like cords, straps, cases, etc and have never had a bad experience. They are also forgiving with their return policy. They are very flexible with working within your budget. I wanted a low cost acoustic guitar once and the friendly staff showed me a number of options when another very nice staff member came up with something he pulled out of the back that they had just received and said it was the best bang for the buck, he sure was right! I bought it without hesitation and have loved it ever since. Not everything they sell is used, they also sell new gear that they received from overstock, or gear that is technically new but couldn't be sold as new due to a slight blemish. For example today I purchased a Vintage Modified '72 replica Tele which was new but has a very small blemish where the serial number is, and because of that completely inconsequential blemish I was able to save quite a bit of cash (same with an acoustic guitar I bought which was technically new but has a small blemish on the back of the body). I noticed that most of the bad reviews are from 5+ years ago, so maybe they've had some staff changes in that time, but I assure you that the current staff are very helpful and attentive. They always remember me when I walk in and are fun to shoot the breeze with. In a world dominated by big box store music shops where you're just a number I'm really happy that places like this still exist. I will continue to support them for as long as they continue to offer great service, great products, and reasonable prices. If this place has left a bad taste in your mouth due to a poor experience years ago then I urge you to check them out again! read more

Every time I come here, one of the extremely condescending sales people reminds me why I hate this store. I was standing at the counter waiting for someone to come over and ring me up, then another employee walked a customer up right in front of me, not even acknowledging that I was standing right there. Was it because I was a woman in a music shop, or because I wasn't spending as much as the other guy they helped first? Or is it just because these guys are jerks? Over-priced AND rude? This guitar store caters to those people who are buying their first guitar and don't want to consider getting a nice one. Seriously, I don't think I could find an instrument that I would like to buy here. It's probably a reflection of the Ann Arbor market that there are no good music stores in town, but these guys just can't get off their high horse about being an independent store. It's not like it's a good independent store. If Meijers or Walmart started carrying guitars then this place would go under; it doesn't offer anything special. Strings and accessories are cheaper here than other stores around town, but you better know what you need because they generally will not be able to offer any useful knowledge. If you actually want something nice, to comparison shop, or ask an expert something then I recommend driving out to Canton's Guitar Center or looking at online forums...exactly what these people think they're better than but aren't. Herb David's has better instruments and a better selection, their people are slightly more competent but much less friendly. read more

For me, sometimes this place is like a convenience store -- the 7/11 of equipment. Broke a tambourine? Have a messed up mic cable? Need some strings? You can probably get a quick fix. So although I wouldn't really consider it a full music store and probably wouldn't really buy or sell actual instruments here, I'm glad for a cheap, helpful option on that side of town. read more

All Music-Go-Rounds are hit and miss depending on their owner and location, but this is one of the better ones in the technical knowledge department. (One of the guys designed and sells his own line of high-end micro amps.) Not much of a drum store or vintage guitar shop but this place will get some of the oddest / interesting guitars, amps and effects in on trade - things you won't see at a generic Guitar Center; things that will appreciate in value if you know what to look for or appreciate one-offs. read more

I came here today to sell some old instruments I haven't used since middle school. The employees working here are amazing! They are genuinely kind and want to give you the best price for your used instruments. They also had a wide selection of high quality and excellent condition used pieces. This is a great little shop. I have always received professional and friendly service from the staff. The inventory changes constantly which makes for a new experience every visit. The prices are great! I can't find a better deal on my favorite guitar accessories anywhere in town. I've had excellent repair and setup work done there for years. Very down to earth staff who remember you and appreciate your business. They always have an excellent selection of both new and used equipment. Major name brands and lesser known brands alike. I recently purchased a peavey viper 3 from your annarbor store .being new to electric I went with your recommendation .Absolutly everthing I needed except when purchasing I asked about a foot controller also.was shown a few but I found out I need aSampera 2 pedal to use some of the amps features. So would have been nice to have been told up front.After all I told you you are the expert so pedal is as much or more than the amp Thanks for your help. read more

Over several years I bought and sold through this store. They charge market prices and buy cheap but that is what you can expect. Most of the staff are accomplished musicians and are great to work with. Management, however, is pretty arrogant and condescending. I had to move a guitar quickly to help one of my children and brought in a very good guitar. Rather than saying that the guitar was too expensive, the manager started belittling me for wanting a custom, hand-built guitar. He put down the guitar and me for buying it. This was done in the presence of staff and customers. I buy at least three guitars per year along with other gear but will never do business with the store again. read more

I bought my newest guitar here not more than a week ago. Was delighted to find an Art & Lutherie acoustic six string. They have a very good selection at very reasonable prices. Great for some one beginning guitar and looking for solid quality. I went with my guitar for more than one reason, it was hand made in Canada, not china, and was something you would have a hard time finding at Guitar Center. The service was okay but I was glad I knew what I was looking for. The owner seemed very friendly and enthusiastic about his store which is always a plus. I would recommend this place for any one looking for a good priced instrument. read more

A hidden gem! I dropped a guitar off to be re-strung and got a call less than 3 hours later that it was finished. Whoa. $30. Worth every penny. Picked up a used amp and all the fix in's for another $100. Nice variety of products. Helpful staff. Incredibly clean and organized store. read more

Music Go Round is probably one of the best places to go to for any of your musical hobby needs, since they stock quite a bit of inventory for their small size. Right when you walk in, this shop presents an easy going and helpful staff. This shop stocks great gear for the working class musician, it's a places were you can actually afford to buy what you need without breaking the bank. I like the fact that a lot of the guitars (their main focus) are a little bit off of the main stream, brand wise, but they are all good quality instruments. It's nice to see other stuff other than fenders and gibsons for once. They just don't slap stuff on the wall like "those corporate stores", they pay attention to every detail when it comes to the set up of there instruments. Their $100 used guitars get the same attention that the $700 and up guitar gets and that shows great character as a shop in general. I'd say the used gear is also a great part of this shop. Anything from guitars, amps, pa and recording gear, keyboards, band instruments, .... anything music related they will buy and sell. Everything works 100%, it's clean, set-up, and ready to plug n' go. I have been to a couple other shop's in the area and I am more than happy to keep my business local. Nice to see people that still are local with that ma' and pap feel. There are two type of shops that I hate going into; 1) Shops that are stuck up that are basically more of museums than guitar shops and 2) Corporate shop that only care about getting your buck and you getting out. I've purchased mic clips from this place when in a pinch (and sold one guitar) but I try and avoid them at all costs. When selling my guitar: the guy gave me a sob story about how hard it would be to move and gouged me on the price (then had it sold just a few days later...same thing happened to a friend's friend that sold a synth collection, totally pulled a fast one on him). I also heard a friend's kid stole/sold some gear to MGR and when he went to track it down they had no paper trail for the stolen items. Shady business practices seem to abound...I'm not saying they're the devil, but where there is smoke there is fire. I also took in a ribbon microphone to sell the kid hooked it up to PHANTOM POWER to test it (thankfully he didn't fry it). Not the smartest staff around. read more

I was looking for a Recording King ros06 and found this blemished one. I called and asked the salesman (i'm sorry I can't remember his name) of his honest opinion of the sound of this instrument and based on that I ordered it. The guitar is wonderful! It is more than I expected...much better than the last RK I owned. I have played and owned some fairly expensive guitars over 50 odd years and have had no regrets selling any of them. This Recording King is a keeper for sure. Thank you Music Go Round. 5 stars for you guys! P.S. The packaging for this instrument was amazing. Music gear shop. It's semi-chainy, but the used gear can be snapped up for cheap and it isn't Guitar Center.

Good experiences here for the most part. There's plenty of good gear here, but there's also a lot of stuff I'd never buy. I've bought guitars, guitar amps, bass guitars, and a lot of drum equipment here, as well as strings, picks etc. Selling stuff here follows a fairly normal pattern. You're not going to get a lot for selling your gear, but it's just the way things work, other music stores offer similar prices. I've done some standing around here waiting for help also, but from what I can tell it's just because things can be chaotic and busy with a lot going on and the sales staff can lose track of who walked in when. Some of the staff are more pleasant to work with than others, and some can be downright great since they are also musicians. I usually prefer this place over guitarcenter, despite the selection difference. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. They try to sell used Fenders at new prices and absolutely have no clue about most of their inventory. I have heard the old guy, I'm assuming owner, admit to selling fake Fenders made by a local guy, nice practice. I've been in a few times and the staff just can't answer any questions at all. I even helped someone that was trying to buy an instrument there because one of the staff members was giving completley horrid advice. They had a G&L Commanche there not long ago, maybe still is there, that the neck is totally jacked up. The frets are coming up and the strings catch should you bend them. When telling this to the staff they said, "Oh yeah, that is a little off." Next day is was hung back up on the wall, same price. If you want to sell something, DO NOT go here, they will absolutely rip you off. It's sad that a local place will push local musicians around and not offer any real help. read more
