This is one of the best retail music stores in Michigan! Good products and great service!

I took my vintage 1964 Harmony Rocket guitar that I had since it was new because the electronics were not working properly. Anthony took the electronics out, cleaned them and repaired a couple of broken wires and reinstalled them. When I first took it in I inquired about replacing the pots and switches with new and Anthony advised against it because the electronics are original to the guitar and it would de-value it. Anthony did a wonderful job and now the guitar sounds great. Anthony could have sold me all new electronics and made more money but his appreciation for vintage insturments prevailed over cash. I highly reccomend these guys. They are knowledgeable and dedicated and share a passion for music and musical instruments. They are engaged with their customers and care more about the needs of the customer and not their bottom line. I will definately be patronizing them more often. The staff there is much more engaging than the staff at Elderly Instruments in Lansing. read more

After 30 years away from the guitar I've decided to take it up again, and stopped into The Music Man to talk about getting a new instrument and lessons. I was greeted by Anthony, a manager there. I explained my goals and he took me into the guitar area. We hadn't discussed my budget, and I am impressed that the first guitar he reached for was on the bottom end of their price range. He played, explained features, and then I asked what I'd get for more money. He spent the next half hour handing me guitars in all price ranges and explaining features. In the end I decided on a model that was double the price where started, but half the price of the top-end models he had shown me. He was patient, focused, and totally service minded. This place is pretty awesome. More guitars and stringed instruments than you could imagine would fit in a store that size. They have other instruments as well and the accessories you need. AVOID! Sold me TWO defective guitars at this place. The first one was a Taylor acoustic which buzzed. I initially wanted to return it and he pinged a $50 return fee, which he then lowered to $30 and eventually took down to $0. I came in and exchanged it for an American Strat. Soon after i noticed it buzzed in certain areas too. The manager Mike tried convincing me that I was being too picky about the sound and that I should "play around" the buzz and that I was picking it the wrong way. He played it and it buzzed too - he tried to convince me he was just playing "sloppy". He tried to tweak it overnight, I came back the next day, and it still had the problem, which he again tried to cover up. I asked to return it, he said he couldn't and showed me a 1mm dent in the back of the guitar that I am convinced he put there just so he can say he can't accept it. He tried to convince me again and again that all guitars buzz and wouldn't take it back. I'm stuck with a thousand dollar guitar that I have to learn to play a special way so it doesn't buzz. read more

the music man does not support local music teachers unless they teach through that store - which, imho, is short sighted and selfish. not everyone can make it to the store for lessons. instead of a willingness to make recommendations of music teachers in the surrounding area, the guy that runs the shop's response and attitude was 'hey, why should i keep names/contact info. of people who don't teach through my store...that's my competition and takes business away from me'. if you need a recommendation for a music teacher, call schaffers (sp?). it might not be the most glamorous store in brighton but at least they're willing to help. read more
