I was so taken by their readiness to support the mission that I (only) managed to ask for a strap, tuner, and capo!

"As good as it gets" indeed!…read more I studied piano with Mary for ten years (starting when I was 5) and voice for three years (starting when I was 12). While she takes music seriously and helps you to become the best musician you can be, she never loses sight of what's really important: music should bring joy to your life! While her standards and expectations (for both herself and her students) are very high, she understood me well enough to know when to push and when to back off just a bit. Lessons with Mary taught me much more than just how to read music and play the piano. She taught me how to break down big challenges into manageable pieces, how to set a goal and reach it (auditions, auditions, auditions), how to manage performance nerves, how to recover from a poor performance ("learn from it and let it go"), and how to deal with the ups and downs of life (remember, we were together for 10 years). She was my biggest critic (although always constructively) and my biggest cheerleader. Whether you want to gain admission to a prestigious music school and become a professional musician (as some of her students have done) ,or just be a really good musician who enjoys playing "just for fun", Mary can help you get there.

What I really appreciated about studying with Mary is that she taught me valuable lessons about…read moreboth music and life. One concept I particularly remember learning is that it is okay to not be perfect. I had always been under the impression that it is imperative to get every single note right, so I would often get frustrated when I missed notes. I finally broke down during one of my lessons and started crying. When I told Mary why I was upset, I feared that she would be disappointed in me, but then she gave me a completely new perspective on playing the piano-- the idea that it's not all about the notes but rather more about the musicality. Mary explained that what's more important is creating the mood of the music; a pianist's interpretation of the piece is what truly excites the audience. She began guiding me through various movement exercises in order to allow me to be more expressive, and I appreciated how patient and encouraging she was during the process. Over time, as I embraced the idea of musicality more, I realized I had never had so much fun playing the piano. In fact, being more expressive actually made it easier for me to get the notes right as well, since there was less tension in my body. On the whole, I became a better musician. But more importantly, I changed my outlook on life in general. During that same pivotal piano lesson, Mary told me that just as it's okay if a few notes are wrong here and there, it's okay if not everything is perfect in life--it's about making the most of whatever comes your way and focusing on the big picture. And just as I began to feel less stressed about playing the piano, I began to feel less stressed in general. I started learning to keep a positive attitude in everything I do, knowing that I will be successful in the long term as long as I try my hardest. I stopped worrying about every small thing in life, which made me feel much better as a person. I'm very grateful for all of the support and encouragement Mary has given me. Because of my experiences in her studio, I've learned to consider playing the piano more in terms of artistry, and I've learned to pick myself up from the obstacles that appear in my life--lessons that I will carry with me as I move on into the future.

He was always available to text and really, really knew his stuff. Then, to get more clarity on the admissions process, I signed up for an admissions counseling session with the managing partner Mayssoun Bydon. I was shocked by how big a waste of time and money this was. It's an incredibly expensive service, at around $500 an hour. I had prepared a long list of questions and wanted to use that time as effectively as possible. Not only did she show up over 25 minutes(!) late for the session, she was remarkably unengaged and gave information that was more than unhelpful. I was shocked by her lack the lack of professionalism she exhibited for someone with such a good reputation. I asked about the character and the experience of what it would be like to go to different law schools, and she told me just to look at their rankings "and that would tell me the vast majority of what I needed to know". I asked with my scores what schools I should be applying for, and she told me University of Illinois, University of Iowa, etc. I told her this wasn't right, and that my GPA seemed lower than it actually was bc I went to an undergrad school known for its lack of grade inflation. She told me this didn't matter, and that I shouldn't bother with top schools. Well, I ended up getting accepted into schools in the T-14. If I followed her advice I would have missed a massive opportunity. Also, she asked me if I had any personal connections to any of the top schools. I told her that my great uncle had been a janitor at the Unicersity of Chicago. She insinuated that I should lie and say he was my grandfather on the application. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

It was pretty delightful & the staff were super friendly and interacting with the animals. The CC was started 20 years ago with Al the Alligator! He was dropped off at the Vet clinic and they started CC all around him. Pretty awesome. It's not a massive space so it was perfect to get there at 3:30pm - in time for the 4pm show which is followed by an Al the Alligator feeding! We checked out all the habitats on the outside as well. Super cool experience - I'd love to come back for one of their turtle yoga, 18+ paint nights, etc. They always have pretty cool themed programming. There are a lot of things you can look at without paying such as the Tegu (big looking lizard), an Owl, tortoises, parrots, black swans, muskrat, llama, horses, and one other animal. But if you pay for admission, you can enter their buildings that have lots more animals like sloths on the ceiling, a reindeer, an emu, mongoose, warthog, clouded leopards, a cougar, and a 300 pound alligator! There are many animals inside for sure! General admission is $15 and it's considered a day pass which means you can leave and come back (the lady clarified for us). Kids above 2 are $13 and those 2 and under are free! Loved this place and def coming back!
