I popped into the A2AC gallery today to see the last week of Helen Gotlib's curated Stratum and Breadth show. The 5 artists took printmaking to a highly creative stratosphere. From glowing pieces to aerial totems I left gobsmacked at their originality. It closes on August 25th.

Very cute spot in downtown Ann Arbor with a continuously rotating art exhibit. The space is very open and has a second floor as well, all of it being self-guided for the most part and free to the public to peruse. The center could benefit from better marketing/awareness spread on what exhibits it contains and why and its visitors could benefit from a bit more direction upon entering as to what the intention of the current exhibits are or just better placards around it as the collections feel a bit disjointed at times. I've also walked past this spot countless times and never went in because I never knew what it would hold and my assumptions of it being a bit "random" came to fruition upon entering and finally checking it out at one point. My group did not spend more than 10 minutes here I believe.

Just ordered the burgers and French fries. SO good. Will definitely order again and spread the word. Have recruited many of our friends. Prices are very affordable.

This one isn't HORRIBLE but it's not altogether innocent, either. What's surprising is that the cafeteria food does not completely suck and there are often "guest restaurants" that sell their food here (like Jamaican Jerk Pit). It's also affordable. But I almost never ever eat at the cafeteria because it is effectively hidden on the 2nd (or 3rd'ish?) floor - you have to go up some steps and then 180, and then up some more, and then 180 again. Go with someone who knows where it is. So what is this place good for? It's good for walking through when needing to get to the library on a cold day. It's also decent to grab some food. I personally frequent Sushi by Panda (on the 2nd floor, not on the 1st floor which is just the Panda Express). Or I grab a wrap or salad at the little cafe on the 1st floor. I avoid all the junk food, and there is plenty, including a Quizno's, Panda Express, and various convenience stores with candy and chips. There are also a lot of banks and ATMs in this building. There's a small Barnes & Noble (with fairly high mark-ups for prices) and a computing store. Though there are study areas, they are not at all my cup of tea. Everything feels like it's from the '70s or '80s and beige beige beige. If it's studying you're after, I would push on through to the Duderstadt Art and Architecture Library's atrium.

Just a comment to start that this is a review of the Law Library and not of the Law School. I was a…read moreundergrad at U of M, but not a Law student. The law libary is perhaps one of the best places to study on the whole campus. Unlike the Ugli which is where people go to pretend to study and the Hatcher graduate library which can get seriously quiet and spooky later at night (sometimes attracting folks like the Unabomber who was a grad student at Michigan), the Law Library offers a good balance of being able to see other people around and a general 'no loud noises' rule to maintain a good productive vibe. With its cathedral like ceiling, it's a beautiful place to sit with only a mild hum of noise that feels like white noise to help you get serious work done.

The law quad is a gorgeous area of campus that is lovely to walk through. As you approach the front…read morearch, you feel like you are walking into a castle, so it starts off pretty great. The courtyard has a quiet, old feel which both holds some awe to it but also feels really relaxing. Then there is the library...oh the '70's! The green carpet is a little hard on the eyes, but it definitely made me want to return for put-put golf in the library (one of the school's fundraisers). Another fascinating feature is the stained glass windows of crimes and other aspects of the law. From the stained glass window depicting murder to that depicting debt collectors dragging away a person who was going bankrupt... I don't think the windows were originally intended to be comical, but I found them hilarious. The law quad is really cool to visit. Go blue!

Recently on a visit to the campus, I walked past it again, but this time it stopped me dead in my tracks. I don't know if it's because present day Amanda is perpetually interested in decorating her house or what, but looking in from the windows, I saw so many Michigan-themed prints that I had never seen before in all my years of searching and hunting through every possible Michigan-related goods & decor store in the area. Every print I saw in Parrish Fine Framing and Art's window display were insanely cute & immediately evoked a strong desire within me to purchase them! So naturally, I went in without another moment's thought & boy was I rewarded. Inside, there are even more options than their window display. To this day, I think Parrish Framing probably has the biggest selection of gorgeous Michigan prints that I've ever seen. This is such a wonderful store, with the most helpful and friendly staff, and has just an overwhelming selection of options for you. I've bought calendars and cards from here as well as prints, and I definitely will be coming back to get some of my most prized prints framed soon because I just know they'll do a wonderful job given how thoughtful they are at curating their collection of goods they offer to begin with. Love love love this place! :)
