I went to Hillary today for the first time and she is amazing! I haven't had my hair cut in well over a year and was leery about trying a hair salon here because my hair very thick and curly. However she made me feel very comfortable and she knew exactly how to handle my hair and did an amazing job cutting it and she even showed me a cool trick with how to curl my hair with a flat iron. Despite my attempt to leave my hair long at my first appointment, I realized pretty quickly that I wasn't going to be able to deal with it, so I contacted Hillary within a couple of days. She got me in right away on the next Sunday ....like I said before, she asks you to tell her if something works or doesn't and, therefore, she's the first hair-stylist I've felt I could be totally honest with. So I had no problem telling her the first 'do wasn't going to work and she was all about "Well, let's do something else, then!". And what happened? Just the the best haircut I think I've had in my life! We went totally short with a Marilyn Monroe inspired 'do and I have never received so many compliments on my hair....and I've been asked several times for Hillary's info. But here's the kicker for me and the impetus for this update...I just got back from visiting my parents on the mainland and the FIRST thing my Mom exclaimed when she saw me in the airport was "I love your hair!" I don't ever remember my mom complimenting me on my hair before! How cool is that! I only get to see my folks every year or so, so it meant a lot to look my best for the visit....that moment in the airport was priceless to me! Thanks again, Hillary! Bang up job! HILARY IS THE BEST! I found Winam Studios through yelp while searching for the "Best Haircut in Honolulu"...based on the overwhelmingly positive 5 star reviews, I felt this place was worth checking out...and I am beyond glad that I did! Hilary and her husband have a charming little studio in the Kaimuki area, lots of parking, easy location. I stopped by yesterday to see if she had any availabilities, but she was booked for the day (Sunday), and even though she was booked for the next day, she was willing to work me into the schedule at 6am, which was perfect for me! I went in knowing what I wanted so we did a quick consultation and then she went to work. She is very personable and great to chat with; I truly enjoyed starting my morning with such a friendly, enthusiastic energy and...an amazing hair cut!!! Let me tell you, I am elated with my new do...it is perfect and even better than what I had imagined! I asked for a 1920's style bob, but with a little more length; I showed her a sample picture and, in no time at all, she gave me the best hair cut of my life! I have finally found my hair go-to-gal...I will only be going to her from now on. She even does free bang trims! I love that her tag line is "Hair Design"for she is a truly a talented hair artist. All she did was look at me to know exactly what would be best for my hair type; she worked her magic and I couldn't be happier. Well, I tried the green hair cut twice even though i thought how can you cut hair dry? As I suspected, you really can't cut dry hair evenly and without any areas growing out unevenly. Even Supercuts sprays hair with water before they cut. Also, for $35 CASH (no plastic accepted), weird times (I will not wake up at 4am to cut my hair!), and not following what I asked for, i'm not going back, I can get a wash, cut and blow dry at other salons for similar prices. read more

I just had the best haircut of my life! I just went from below-the-shoulder hair to a pixie cut and I feel FANTASTIC. Hilary really listened to what I wanted and by the time I left, she felt like a new forever friend. She is so open and warm and makes you her number one priority when she is cutting your hair. I can't believe how little she charges for a haircut, she really is a master of her craft. And the espresso she greeted me with was delicious. I will never go to another salon again--Hillary will be the only person that ever cuts my hair again! And Henry was great too. Gave me a delicious head massage when he shampooed my hair. My wife has had a really hard time finding a hair stylist since hers moved off island and excited about all the good reviews about Winam Studio. Sadly, Hilary was a big disappointment. The cut looked fine gelled up and styled but after washing it the next day. Their were uneven area's all around. I had to trim around the bottom because there were strands of hairs a couple inches longer hanging out in a lot of places. The left side was cut different than the right too. read more

I've gone here a couple of times now each time I feel rushed. Moved from chair to chair. It is a busy studio maybe you should be open more so you don't schedule people to close to each other.The price has also gone up if I pay over $100.00 for a color and haircut I would like to be pampered.good color and haircut though even if I did not get what I wanted she tried to BS me in thinking that I should not cut my hair like I wanted too. Tip maybe you should listen to customer.I think she just did not have the time she had 3 other people in the salon waiting.I don't think I will be returning I am looking for a more relaxing experience. read more

I can say that Hillary Juliette is f the best hair stylist/colorist I have ever had the good fortune to find, as well as one of the most personable. Seriously. She just did a fantastic job coloring my hair, which was two-toned: about 20% was my natural color (dark brown), and 80% was a strawberry blonde from what was *supposed* to be a temporary dye (you know, the kind where it says on the box that it will wash out after a certain number of shampoos). Hillary got the shade just right by mixing colors, and then some other ingredient which makes my hair color not only my natural shade, but looking better than it ever would on its own. This, on top of having a great time in the salon talking/joking/commiserating with her -- can't be beat. I just wish my finances would allow me to tip her outrageously well for her work. Since I can't, I thought the next best thing would be to finally get on Yelp and sing her praises to the world. read more

I created this account just to respond. Hilary cut my hair a few months ago and it was the worst hair cut ever. Yes, she is friendly, and cheap but unless your just getting a trim, I would not go there. I have had short hair most of my life. I wanted to cut it back short, and it looked like an 80's boys butt cut when she was done. While on vacation to NY city, I went to a salon to have it fixed. More than one stylists made comments as to how bad the cut was. If you want a real trendy hair style don't waste your money here. If I could post a picture of the cut I would. Awful!!! read more

It has a spa feel without the hassles that come with other locations. Hillary is an amazing artist who cares about your interests and will provide you with a cut and color that fits you! From conservative to funky, she does it all. She has a talent for color and an eye for design. I have been going to her for over four years now and have never left disappointed. I always receive compliments on my color including from others in the profession. I've referred several friends who have now become regulars and would strongly recommend her services. Not only is her work high quality but the time spent in the studio is enjoyable. I always leave feeling better than when I walked in the door. 3 words- DON'T DO IT- I have given this salon and it's owner 2 visits and have never felt so personally insulted. Today's visit was the absolute worst. I arrived at 11:05 for my appointment scheduled at 11:15. I opened the door to find the owned taking a picture of a client. She asked me to take a seat in their waiting area, which I did. I proceeded to wait until 11:25- at which point her colorist tells her the 11:15 appointment was a no show. I immediately responded that the owner let me in and told me to have a seat. Yes she did apologize and when I finally called to take a seat in the styling chair- she takes a look at my hair, asks about the color and then instructs a student to apply my color. After the processing, another student washes my hair (a pleasant girl, but a bad wash) I'm directed to sit in another chair for my cut. I grab my eyeglasses and move them to the counter of the station where I was moved to. During the course of my cut, the colorist moves something from the counter and my glasses are dropped to the ground. Again, an apology. At this point the only thing in my mind is "What next". I did not want to complain because she was still in the midst of cutting my hair. Although the cut was okay and the owner said she felt humiliated by my experience, I truly ended up left offended and insulted. If I wanted a student to color my hair, I should have been given the option. She even said that one of the girls helping was her DOG GROOMER (this is totally the truth). So, bottom line, if you want to be forgotten about, get a color treatment from a student (but pay full price), get a crappy wash from a student, but get an okay cut give them a try. I'm a reasonable person, and thought after the first awkward visit where time management was also an issue, I would give them another shot. NEVER AGAIN- I have never left a salon feeling so offended and insulted before. I've read her reviews, and honestly the good ones must be fake. read more

I'm writing this review because it's so difficult to find a great stylist, and Hillary is the best one I've ever been to. All of the haircuts I've had with other stylists have left me with "meh, close enough" reactions at best - even expensive ones - because no matter what pictures or descriptions I provide, I always end up with a haircut that reminds me of some generic 90's/00's inspired school-secretary bob . Hillary will give you a unique, edgy, classy, gritty, whatever-you're-looking-for cut, and it's not going to be the average asym/dixie chicks hair that seems to plague the words "pixie cut" and "short." I've literally had my hair cut by her more often than any other stylists - and that's even while living in the mainland and only flying back to the islands occasionally - because I still haven't found anybody in the last 4 years as good as her that isn't charging upwards of $150. Which leads me to the last thing that is great about her salon, the price of a haircut doesn't make you choose between buying food that month and having good hair. There aren't alot of words you can use to describe Hillary. She is absolutely an amazing stylist. We contacted her off of a recommendation from someone in the mainland. I have had cancer 4 times and a kidney transplant so my hair has been damaged over the last couple of years. I contacted her and told her I needed a change and someone to help me fix my hair. There was a group of us that wanted to come in together (because my friends got their haircut for me) and Hillary offered to work on our hair on a Sunday morning. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I put the life of my hair in Hillary's hands and said "go for it!" She did the most amazing job ever on my hair and I walked out of there with a complete color change and feeling so much better. She makes your appointments fun and makes you feel unbelievably comfortable. I would recommend her to anyone a hundred times over again. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE; SHE IS A HAIR STYLING GODDESS, OTHERS IN OAHU DO NOT COMPARE!!!!I moved to the island in April of this year and have been searching for a good stylist the whole time....I used to get a haircut every 6-8 weeks by my very good friend for the past 8 years in Chicago, and her haircuts have been perfect every time......I have only got my hair cut twice in the last seven months on the island here and both have been miserable and I have been asking around for a good stylist. Finally I searched on Yelp and found Hillary's salon and her great reviews!!!! I had to give it a try !!!!!!! She exceeded my wildest expectations!!!!! She was attentive, friendly, and above anything she was very professional!!!!!! I spent 5 minutes telling her what I want, and, showing her pictures of my past haircuts. I explained I didn't want to cut my hair in length; all I needed was to have my hair texturized and to have some weight taken off. She gave me a "green haircut" , which was priced very reasonably, 35$. I am so much happier now that I found a stylist I love...... I first came to this studio in January of last year, and since then, I return every two months. My first cut was radical, going from long hair to a super short asymmetrical cut with shaved sides. Since then, I've had several different very short looks, and Hilary nails it every time I come in. I am approached all the time by people asking where I get my hair done. She is truly gifted at what she does, and if you trust her to do what is best, you'll end up with something wonderful if you're a bit on the adventurous side. You should know before you go that her methods are a bit different. She might work on multiple customers at the same time as you or she might talk to other people while she's cutting your hair. She might also share personal information with you that you didn't solicit. But, she will also give you the best haircuts of your life and she will charge you less than any other upscale salon on the island. When you start going regularly, you will become a part of a community there, which is different than most salon experiences. It's not for everyone, but for some, it is the perfect salon find. read more
