It's better and quicker than the buses, or driving generally, and offers a regular quick service into central London.

For how many people pass through daily, I found it clean - especially compared to a public transport stop in Chicago or NYC. As an American, from Wisconsin, I am essentially ignorant as to how public transportation works. But with a little patience and a lot of assistance from Google Maps and politely asking staff or other travelers, it really isn't as crazy as it seems. I feel like there is decent signage, the key is to research ahead of time what platform you are arriving on and where you need to go next. Also, avoiding the work/school rush hours makes it much less intimidating ;)

perhaps the best looking tube station in london!…read more but definitely the nearest one to the all england lawn tennis club. thematic decorations here, create a special atmosphere like no other. you have lawn-like floor carpeting for the platform area. seats are specially printed with names of tennis greats. life sized tennis players and netting lines the fencing on both sides of the platform. upgrading works are on going to get it ready for the olympic games in 2012. basically the addition of a lift from the platform to the exit level, removal of shops and ticket gates. you can take a nice stroll along wimbledon park rd or bus no. 493 to get to the club.

It serves a new development of flats, shops a hotel and offices called Imperial Wharf, built on the site of an old gas works, as well as the more established development at Chelsea Harbour, and older, established neighbourhoods around Sands End. There have been plans to build a station here for some 15 years, as the area has long had poor transport connections; the service now provides access to mainline connections at Clapham Junction, Willesden Junction and Watford Junction, as well as Underground services via West Brompton, Kensington Olympia and Shepherd's Bush. The station itself is built on an embankment, with access via a glass-encased staircase and lifts from a ticket office located in a tunnel under the tracks. The platform buildings comprise shelters under stylish 'wave' styled canopies, with more glass panels to provide protection from the biting winds that come along the Thames. (The exposed nature and lack of heated waiting room is, indeed, one of the station's main drawbacks, although it is possible to shelter in the ticket office area). The station is served by the half-hourly Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction service of London Overground, which is extended to Stratford in peak hours. It is also served by the hourly Milton Keynes - East Croydon Service, which is reduced to Watford Junction to Clapham Junction in the early morning and after the evening rush hour. The station is currently staffed for all trains, and the lifts provide level access throughout. There are uncovered cycle racks in the small square created on the Imperial Wharf (west) side. Bus connections include the 391 (Richmond-Sands End), 424 (Fulham-Putney Heath) and C3 (Clapham Junction-Earl's Court).

What finalized our decision was the close proximity from the London Marriott Kensington hotel to Earl's Court tube station. From the hotel shortcut to the tube station was 5-7 minutes as we pulled our 24 inch luggage. Pros: * 45 minutes from Earl's Court to Heathrow terminals 2 & 3 * easy payment system by tapping your contactless credit card at the turnstile * 2.10 English pounds meant $2.72 USD. That's a huge incentive to take the tube. Cons: * there should be more emphasis on the need to take the lift to the Piccadilly line located down on platform 6. There is a sign around the corner that says it's 83 steps assuming you want to take the stairs. Not with a 24 inch luggage you don't.

Even a few pubs, but then again there are lots of pubs in England. Oh, you can like catch the tram here as well, which I think is also pretty good. It is also the terminus of the Wimbledon branch of the District Line of TfL, and of the Tramlink to Croydon, and provides an interchange with the Sutton loop of the Thameslink service via Blackfriars. It is used by 19 million passengers a year on the main line, a similar number on the District Line, and over 2 million on Tramlink. The station opened on the Waterloo to Woking Line in 1838, with the other branches owning over the subsequent 40 years, although the line towards Sutton opened as late as 1929. In 1997 the line to West Croydon was closed for conversion into the Tramlink, reopening in 2000. In 1881 the station was relocated from its original site on the opposite side of the bridge. The station was rebuilt in the Art Deco style in the 1920s. The station has 11 platforms: 1-4 for the District Line terminus, which has its own concourse on the north side of the station (where the toilets are located); 5-8 on the South West main line; 9 for Thameslink services and 10a and 10b for Tramlink. Platforms 6 and 7 are on the fast lines and only used occasionally. All stopping suburban services from Waterloo stop here. Lifts provide step free access to all platforms. The ticket office and concourse are located on the north side of the station adjacent to the staircase to the District Line. There are shop units along the bridge above the platforms selling food, and future shop units on the District Line concourse. There is an exit on the south side of the station next to the entrance to the Centre Court shopping centre.
