The ophthalmic medical assistants brought me into different exam rooms while lubricating my eyes. Dr. Ky informed me about migraine headaches due to my dry eyes. Immediately, the Clear Eyes commercial popped into my head. He measured my eyes and wrote me a new prescription. My dilated pupils were going to wear off in 3-4 hours. OMG, I was freaking out.

Dr. Siu was very friendly and detailed in explaining my issue, what could have caused it and what she recommends I do to correct and maintain the health of my eye going forward. I felt very comforted by her assessment and recommendations. The billing for the services was a little bit confusing. I have a high-deductible insurance plan so I was aware that I would be paying a decent amount to satisfy my deductible but the staff phrased it in such an odd way. They told me it would be a $300 deposit and if my insurance ended up covering some then they would refund me and if it ended up costing more they would bill me. They repeated this to me even after I was done with my eye exam. This was odd because they should know what services were provided during my visit and how much it could cost and despite trying to get clarification they continued to speak in a cryptic way suggesting it could be less, it could be more, who knows? I understand that insurance is complex and things may or may not be covered for whatever reason but providing the patient with a general range of what things may cost should be a base line expectation in my opinion. I visited in March and I had to call in May to receive the refund of the excess of my initial deposit despite the explanation of benefits being available in early April. If you do pay the deposit here make sure you are doing your due diligence with your insurance.

Yes, I know a lot about them since he's been my ophthalmologist for nearly a decade. He's a good doctor, but it might be time for me to move on. The only reason this type of office etiquette (or lack thereof) is acceptable is because the practice is located in Flushing, where patients don't know better and often don't expect better. Bottom line: if you want a good ophthalmologist and don't mind sitting in a crowded office for 1.5 hours then this is a 5 start establishment for you. If you understand that the purpose of making an appointment is so that you shouldn't have to wait over 1.5 hours in a waiting room, then avoid this place.

It was a relief not to have to wear glasses with thick lens anymore. Also, as I am getting older Dr. Fong also did cataract surgery on my eyes. Dr. Fong, and his staff are the best! I've recommended Dr. Fong to my family members and friends, and everyone is very happy, and satisfied with him and his staff. I travel from Staten Island to Manhattan for my eye appointments, and he's the only eye doctor that I would trust with my eyes.

I simply had to wait a short while until they were ready for my next step/procedure. The office may appear chaotic and disorganized but in reality, it is a very well-organized humming machine. This is true of both the Union Street and Maple Street offices where I have had appointments. Admittedly, the appointment to see Dr Chu, can at times, take a while. But, in my opinion, the occasional longer than usual wait is worth the service provided. Dr. Chu obviously has a lot of patients which says to me that she must be doing something right or she would have only a few patients or no patients at all. Dr. Chu did both of my cataract surgeries and I am deeply grateful of my optometrist for recommending her to me. Overall, I found Dr. Chu to be very knowledgeable, skilled at her work, patient in answering my questions, caring and always dedicated to doing her best. And how do I know that she is always dedicated to doing her best? I had a 2:30pm appointment and right away, the staff at the front desk were highly attentive and kept me productive with filling out thenecessary forms. Throughout my short time at the office, I was well-informed and attended to. Prior to meeting with Dr. Chan, my eyes were dilated, and I was given a vision exam and I believe my eyes were scanned/pictures were taken. Soon after, I met with Dr. Chan, and he was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. He provided thorough explanations, and wasn't using any incomprehensible medical jargon. While he worked quickly and efficiently, he took the time to double check his work and compared it the report from my optometrist. If you are in need of a retina specialist, I highly recommend Dr. Ian Chan. He is indeed competent in his work field!
