I was referred to this office for black spots visible in my fundus. Upon examination, Dr. Ian Chan prescribe me a medicine that wasn't fully covered by Medicaid(80% would only be covered), the rest was out of pocket(around $400 per dose usage). However after 4 visits and paying $1600 for the medicine within a year timespan, I decide to go to another doctor when results weren't desirable and getting worse. I decided to ask Ian Chan for the medicine's name. When the new doctor was given the name, he told me that the medicine Dr. Ian Chan prescribed to me isn't even covered by Medicaid. After hearing that, I realized that Dr. Ian Chan had scammed me. Don't come to visit this doctor and take his words with a grain of salt. This is my experience. This place is the worst. They recently moved their office to Union effective the first of this month. The front reception ladies are super unorganized. It's frustrating and infuriating. They asked for my name 5x and confirmed my birthday 3x. Why don't you just look at the patient form I filled out instead of asking me so many redundant questions? I was taken to the small examination room on the left where the lady requested I take my contacts off. I asked for contact solution and a dish so I can take my lenses off. The lady leaves the room, comes back and asks me to take my lenses off again. I again asked for contact solution and she advises me that she doesn't have any contact solution or a dish for me to take me contacts out. Ok? So what do you want me to do? I was unfortunately born with bad vision and can't see well without my contacts. She grabs a disposable fountain cup and pours in some eye wash and hands it to me. Ok....? I take my contacts out and the lady tells me she's going to pour in some eye drops to dilate my pupils. She tells me I won't be able to see for the next 2-3 hours. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! SHOULDNT YOU TELL ME THIS BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT OR WHEN I MAKE MY APPOINTMENT SO I DONT COME ALONE?! I don't live near Flushing and I DROVE. Have you no consideration and decency to tell me in advance? Frustrating. I wait to see the doctor. There's maybe 4 people waiting and the reception ladies again asked me to confirm my name and birthday. Very annoying. Pretty sure I'm the only person in the waiting area with a simple/American name. Why do I have to confirm my name and birthday 5x? I WROTE DOWN MY INFORMATION ON THE PATIENT FORM. Read it and stop asking me!! I see the doctor. He gives me about 5-10 minutes of his time. No complaints with the doctor. I come out and ask if I can put my contacts back on. I ask for the eye wash and a mirror so I can put my contacts back in. The lady rudely tells me I have to go to the bathroom and refuses to give me the bottle of eye wash. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE. HOW DO YOU WANT ME TO PUT MY CONTACTS BACK IN WITHOUT WASHING MY HANDS AND WITHOUT A MIRROR WHEN YOU KNOW IM HAVING VISION PROBLEMS?! I mean, that's why I'm seeing the doctor right?! They told me to go find the bathroom outside of the office. Keep in mind I have my contacts in a damn cup and can't see well. I have bad vision AND my eyes are dilated. This review is for his Chinatown office. I would definitely say that the negative reviews did not align to my experiences. I had a 2:30pm appointment and right away, the staff at the front desk were highly attentive and kept me productive with filling out thenecessary forms. Throughout my short time at the office, I was well-informed and attended to. Prior to meeting with Dr. Chan, my eyes were dilated, and I was given a vision exam and I believe my eyes were scanned/pictures were taken. Soon after, I met with Dr. Chan, and he was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. He provided thorough explanations, and wasn't using any incomprehensible medical jargon. While he worked quickly and efficiently, he took the time to double check his work and compared it the report from my optometrist. CANT BE TRUSTED Horrible experiences with my mother. First time appointment to see the doctor was at 10AM, the doctor didn't show up until 12PM, which concluded to a long line of patients. Finally get to see the doctor at 1:30PM. The doctor was nice with all the sweet talk about the Vitreoretinal surgery, telling us his success rate and how he "cares." We decided to go with the doctor for the surgery. He said his office will be in contact a week before the surgery explaining everything. So I do my own research about the surgery so I'll know what to expect. The week before the surgery, attempted to call the office with questions regarding the recovery details. The receptionist picks up, doesn't know ANYTHING about the surgery and has the audacity to give me the incorrect information about the surgery, then I correct her and requested to speak to someone who knows about the surgery or if the doctor can call me back at his earliest convenience. The receptionist rudely responds saying the doctor is too busy to answer your questions, he will talk to you AFTER the surgery. I responded saying NO and demanded to speak to someone thats in charge, another person comes on the phone thats completely clueless about the surgery and tells me any questions will be answered AFTER the surgery. Decided to cancel the surgery with this doctor and looking for another. Overall, how can you trust your EYES with this doctor and his clueless receptionists? I really appreciate what Dr Chan and his team did for me. I did my vision test 7pm Friday evening and found blood in the eye. I tested Mr. Chan's emergency phone number 9pm. Surprisingly, office assistant called me right away and discussed with me my situation. An early appointment was made on Monday morning. I got the office at 8:55am, Receptionists and medical assistants worked processional and high efficiently. The office is clean and sanitized after each patient. They helped me get ready to see Dr shortly. After Dr Chen did very careful exam on my eye, a small hole was found in the retina o left eye. But I can have laser surgery right away. I don't have good insurance for special doctor, Dr Chen discussed surgery price personally with me. It is very reasonable, but I did not bring enough money with me. He even agreed I can bring next time when I went back for post surgery check up. I went back to his office yesterday and my left eye recovers. Thank you for their proactive service and reasonable price. I highly recommend this office to anyone has retina issue. read more

You are not gonna believe what I've been through at this place! Flushing Optical referred me to Ian Chan office for check up of glaucoma. My following experiences was very dramatic. I made an appointment with Ian Chan office at 2:30pm, I especially asked if they can see me on time, they said they sure can, I told them if they can't see me on time I am not even gonna bother to make appointments with them. So here I come, got there 2:30, however there is like 10 patients ahead of me, I waited till 4pm! They didn't ask any information from me, they took the referring slip from Flushing Optical then that's it, and they dilated my pupils ! They dilated my pupils without even telling me! And of course they didn't ask weather I drove! And I did drove from Long island that day! The funny thing is that after they dilated my pupils they are like Oops ! They are like Oops, we don't check for Glaucoma, we are a specialist for retina ! No one in that clinic ever said sorry to me! I was dilated for no reasons! They told me to go to another doctor and check for Glaucoma, if I go there quickly, i may get my eyes checked that day. So I was like, ok, I am not gonna argue with you anymore, so I went to another doctor they refer to. And that doctor told me, they couldn't check my eyes on the same day, because my pupils are dilated already! So Ian Chan office don't have the basic knowledge that pupils shall not be dilated in order to get glaucoma checked. The next day I canceled my important business meeting to go to the doctor's office again, and I was told my eyes are fine, I don't have glaucoma, yes, just like what my own eye doctor told me at the first place! Dr. Chan is top notch. I'm a physician and was an ophthalmology resident when Dr. Chan was a fellow, so I know the very inner workings of his treatment of patients. The two stars is for the office and front desk people. Between the front desk and the back office there are like 10 colleges kids. They seem like working part time and don' know what they are doing. They seem clueless so when you asked them questions. And the lady who seem to know a bit more get annoyed when the other colleagues keep asking her questions. What do you expect if you hire so many unexperienced college kids. So unprofessional. Typical of Chinese doctor office. Long wait because they over book. Small office,not enough seats and rude front desk. I found dr. Chan on yelp. My eye was very red and I knew there was something wrong probably due to the fact that I wear contacts for about 15 hours a day. I was able to schedule an appt on the same day due to my situation. I didn't know that he was a retina specialist and not a regular ophthalmologist. After he did a check up for me, he told me there were abrasions in my eye and even though it wasn't his speciality, he still wrote me prescriptions so I could get better asap. The visit was super fast and I would've loved if he were a regular ophthalmologist!! He was super thorough. Highly recommend him for patients who have retina issues ! read more

Doc is probably superficially polite but don't really see my eye being completely back to normal condition but just swelling went down a bit after that tiny ointment...Good thing I have insurance b/c they are overcharged. Your insurance bill comes and not that you are being charged but the amouts are outrageous for what?? 10 mins of examining? My mom suffered eye trauma and she was really scared since she noticed significant decrease in her vision to the point where she can only see shadows. I remembered hearing excellent feedback about Dr. Ian Chan from my friends and family members so I called to make an urgent appointmentto see him. Despite the fact that the clinic was closed and he was already at home (it was afterhours) he made the trip back into clinic to see my mom to make sure her eye was alright. She had her eyes dilated and appropriate tests were done to come up with a plan for her recovery. It also happened that Dr. Chan had a flight the next morning, but he explained in detail what her condition was and the steps we were to follow until his return. He even made arrangements for her to see another retina specialist in the interim. He took care of her like someone would for their own family member. My mom recovered her eye sight fully and we are so thankful to Dr. Chan for his care and expertise. I would highly recommend him to everyone I know. read more
