Dr Lichenstein recently performed my adult strabismus surgery and I have nothing but kind things to say. I was incredibly anxious about the procedure and he did a great job with reassuring me, while still making sure not to overpromise anything. I think it's very important to have a doctor who will be upfront with you, and he made sure to give me real statistics and possible outcomes. In addition to the in-person consultation he gave me a call a couple of days before and after the surgery to give me the chance to ask any questions which made me feel very cared for. And right before the surgery he gave me the cutest stuffed animal that really went a long way in keeping me calm. I'm still quite early in my recovery process (6 days post-op) but I would definitely recommend him to children and adults alike in need of strabismus surgery. My son is not a patient here. I did not get that far. I just had a call to set up a first time visit for my son. We have Fidelis care medicaid coverage. Now our current pediatric ophthalmologist has no issues getting relevant services covered thru my son's medical coverage. The office assistant who answered my call told me that Fidelis has not been reimbursing them for the refractory svc since 2018 and that the office charges patients $60, even though refractory service is totally covered by Fidelis. This sounds like an administrative issue between the practice and Fidelis that needs to be resolved. Amazing! The doctors may be amazing here. But the fact that this office is passing on charges to the patient to make up for their lack of administrative follow through with Fidelis is insane to me. Those who have Fidelis care medicaid coverage, steer clear from this practice. They will charge you $60 for refractory service when this is in fact covered 100% by Fidelis. Know your coverage and know when these offices are trying to pass costs onto the patient unnecessarily. read more

Dr. Lichtenstein and his staff are really great. My 4yo nephew failed a vision test in school and had to get an eye exam. We intially went to a different eye doctor who plucked my nephew's eyashes and prescribed glasses. When we went to pick his eyeglasses up, the doctor informed us that he may not necessarily need the glasses and to go see a pediatric eye doctor. The whole experience was extremely shady and we felt extremely uncomfortable with her service. We decided to get a second opinion at Dr. Lichtenstein's office. The PA who examined my nephew first was extremely patient and so easy to talk to. She gave us her medical opinion- eyelashes did not have to be plucked and glasses were not necessary- and answered all our questions. Dr. Lichtenstein came in afterwards and examined my nephew once more and assured us he did not need glasses. Dr. Lichtenstein was informativeand very kid-friendly! This place is the absolute worst. My son was asked to wear glasses for a a few months to strengthen his eye. I needed to schedule a follow up appointment they had nothing for two months out during school hours only. I asked for something 3 months out and they didn't have visibility into that month. What a horrible practice. Get more doctors or open up another location. Let me start by saying that I never got to the front door of this business. I called the office on three different occasions. The first two times I was on hold for such a long time that I grew frustrated and decided to call back. Today was the third time I called, and again I was put on hold. Then, lo and behold, someone actually picked up the phone and said..."Hold, please". Arrrrrgh!!! But I did hold on, and then when they came back to the phone, I said: "Hello, I am calling to inquire about an appointment for my daughter and son to come in and see the eye doctor". She replied, "can you call back in a half hour or forty minutes, we are all in a meeting now?" I paused, thinking to myself "is this really happening?" and then answered "okay" and said goodbye. I then started looking at other pediatric eye doctors and found another office that actually had a better review record than this place so I figured why not try them. The customer service experience was as different as night is to day. I immediately got a real person who was so pleasant, polite and helpful. I asked the same question of this office's representative and got an appointment and help finding out if my insurance would cover the visit. They really went above and beyond. Ordinarily, I would not review a place I never visited in person, but it is just beyond nervy to feel that you don't need to provide good customer service and to actually discourage new business. Also, if you can't handle something as simple as a phone inquiry and appointment, do you really think I would trust you with my children's eye health? read more

I've taken my daughter to numerous appointments and this place by far was the absolute worst. Upon scheduling this appointment with Joan one of the secretary I explained the entire situation to her about my child's dignosis she won't keep a mask on ,she have behaviours and that I will be there to support she told me not a problem at all they've dealt with individuals with disabilities.. along with myself we was treated in the most horrific way possible. however, once we arrived, after seeing the Dr. Eric Lichtenstein, who was extremely dismissive, we were lead outside to stand in the cold. When I phoned from the sidewalk to questioned why my daughter's and I was sent outside, I was told because my daughter wasn't wearing a mask, was aggressive and the doctor didn't want her to scare the other patients. Excuse me, yes my daughter can be aggressive, but not towards others only if she feels like am letting people hurt her or only if she sense a treat However, if you standing at a distance and spraying her eyes like she is not human of course anyone will act out and that exactly what the Eric was doing with that spray that I hated also at the time there was only one other person in the waiting area. I of course objected and was instructed to go to the corner park or dunkin donuts and i should return in 30 minutes.i told Eric the insurance paying him not dunkin donut so of course you are neglecting my daughter.It should come as no surprise that I didn't go to dunkin donuts I left nor have I received a call from them to this day inquiring of me or my daughter. read more

I came here because my kids had gotten letters from their school. So I decided to find the best of the best, and I stumbled upon this place; making appointments over the phone are very easy. They make special appointments for siblings to do the exams together. This place is very clean the way an office should be. Toys and books were kept very organized for the children to play with. Paper work took about 10 minutes, which is fairly quick. I was in an out of here within an 1hr, they are very professional & explain thoroughly. My kids were comfortable & the rooms are designed with your children in mind. There is also a connected place where your kids can pick out their own pair of glasses if needed. If you care your child, go somewhere else. I made the appointment for Dr Regina M. Del Rosario, I made sure she is an MD not an OD. My husband went with my daughter. I saw the paperwork after and found out they had different doctor's name on the paperwork - DR Tehara C. Bailey. I googled her name and showed her picture to my husband and he said that she is not the doctor he met. My husband said first it is a Chinese young guy did the refraction eye test for my daughter, then a young lady did the eye test for my daughter. From the paperwork i got back, there is only one Chinese name listed on the list (YI Xing He) and he is an OD and the young lady that did the test we didn't know who is she. The office did not mention anything to my husband about this new doctor. This new doctor is very very young, don't have alot of experiences compares with other. Also, after I made the appointment for my daughter, i called and tried to make another appointment for my son, the office asked me the reason to come, I told them my children's pediatrician wanted us to see the Pediatric Ophthalmologist to check out his eye. They told me Rivka L. Markowitz is available to see my son. After the phone call, I googled the name of the doctor and found out Ms Rivka L. Markowitz is not an Ophthalmologist, she is an Optometrist. I don't have to come here and pay extra money if I want to see an Optometrist. I called them back and changed to a different doctor. But with my daughter's experience, I cancelled my son's appointment with them. Because I don't want to risk my son's eye with the irresponsible doctor office. Dr Lichtenstein was recommended by Dr. hirshfield office I'm 34 and in the last three years my right eye turned outward. I hated it I never would make eye contact with people when I would talk to them. I would kind of dart my eye around if they would eye at me too long. I used to talk about having this surgery but was a lil apprehensive. Then one day I was talking to my good friend and he said if it bother you that much go ahead to do it. Right then I started to do my research and viewed many youtube video about strabismus and people personal struggle and how they over come when they did surgery. When I showed up my dr Lichtenstein fresh meadows office the ladies were polite and helpful even though it was a pediatric setting I was ok because I heard he is the best. When I enter he did a array of test and asked plenty of questions and as well as answered mine. The visit took a while but I was fine because I felt I was in good hands from the start. The dr mention to me that the surgery was not 100% guaranteed and I was ok with that. I told him that I work at a school and he ask me if I was up yo do surgery the day after Christmas and I was like yes. I like that he thought about my time off for healing I would have 12 days off for the holiday . The surgery was about 5 weeks after the appointment. He said if I needed more time to let him know. I didn't feel pressured or rushed into surgery. The day of surgery it went well my surgery was an success no double vision no pain just what I expected red eyes and swollen. Which I knew because of watch videos of people getting it done and their recovery and the dr told me. Now it has been 3 weeks and I'm satisfied I can look people in their eyes and not feel ashamed of my look. I thank dr Lichtenstein and his team for bringing back my pretty face. Really nice pediatric for eye visits. The place looks brand spanking new. The offices look really nice and the doctors and receptionist are all very kind and friendly. I'm really glad that our pediatrician referred us to this place. All of their medical equipment looks up to date. My son's eye doctor, Regina Del Rosario is very nice. She's great with babies. She's gentle and she works very efficient. My son did not cry at all during this visit. Their office is located on Union Turnpike, not too far from St. John's University. There's plenty of parking on the neighborhood side streets. read more

Dr. Lichtenstein is an absolute sweet heart. My daughter has been going to him since she's 4 years old. She's 13 now. About 5 years ago the doctor told us that my daughter Julia's eyes were healed and she didn't need glasses anymore. So that meant that we didn't need to go back anymore. She was just beside herself. She wasn't happy. He did tell us that her condition can return as she gets older. We'll he was right on. It did. My daughter is happy as a pig in mud. Lol. She gets glasses and gets to see Dr. Lichtenstein every 6 months. He's so good with kids. When she was little she loved that he called her Julia petulia. She remembered that. And sure enough he did too. He called her that at her visit. I adore him. His staff is very nice too. We need to acknowledge the good people do not only the bad. I had a great experience at Pediatric Eye MD. Everything just worked out so well. I had really bothersome and embarrassing case of strabismus for a couple of years. Under recommendation from Dr. Kupersmith and my sister, I went to see Dr. Lichtenstein with high hopes. I prefer to rely on family and friend recommendations and both my bother-in-law & nephew were treated by Dr. Lichtenstein with great results. All my appointments were pretty quick. The only "slow" appointment was the first one since I was a new patient & the first exams are thorough & detailed to establish the problem and baselines. Compared to other first appointments, I found this appointment very fast. Every other appointment at Pediatric Eye MD were speedy and to the point. I really appreciated Dr. Lichtenstein fitting me in short notice for my follow-up & license renewal. Knocking out two bird with one stone. All doctors at Peds Eye MD were great. Dr. Lichtenstein was fantastic. Explained the problem I had in detail, answered all my questions and even showed me a video the procedure I was getting. I like knowing exactly what I'm getting myself into. I really appreciated Dr. Lichtenstein's animated personality, it made me feel ease & lightened the mood. He didn't want to give my hopes up, so under promised but delivered so more. I don't have to wear those embarrassing prisms anymore. So grateful. I waited two months to see Dr. Lichtenstein, a pediatric eye doctor, at the Woodside office of Pediatric Eye MD. At the office, many aspects were great -- exam equipment designed for kids, the large waiting room was filled with toys, the admin staff were prompt and courteous -- BUT I never saw hide nor hair of Dr. Lichtenstein! I saw another lady whom I assumed was a MD. When I got home, however, I read an info sheet they gave me at check-in and I realized that she was not an MD but an OD. The info sheet informed me that I will always be given a chance to see the Dr. I was scheduled with. WHAT?! I made an appointment specifically to see Dr. Lichtenstein, not an appointment with an OPTION! I distinctly remember that when I made the appointment over the phone, I discussed that I wanted to see Dr. Lichtenstein because I heard that he was great with kids. Was he in fact, good with kids? Also, with my bad eyesight, I was willing to pay out of pocket to make sure that a MD would check out my kid's eyes. Funny that they never told me of their policy when I made the appointment... or when I checked in at reception... or while I waited in the waiting area... or during the actual appointment... Beware this bait-and-switch practice. Don't get hoodwinked like I did. As for the OD, she was quite impatient with my kid. She was curt, didn't explain much to my son even though I asked her to, and she squirted stuff in his eye without warning him. She pronounced my son's eyesight to be normal and that he didn't need any glasses. My husband and I were surprised but accepted the diagnosis. As the months passed, however, we continued to wonder. Our son brought books right up to his nose and couldn't see some signs in the distance and sometimes had a very hard time catching balls. We finally went to get a second opinion, and lo and behold, my son DEFINITELY needed glasses. Dr. Lichtenstein's office -- not only got me and my kid upset -- can't even assess that a kid needs glasses. Even the school screening caught it; they sent a note home saying your kid might need glasses. In summary, for us, visiting Dr. Lichtenstein of Pediatric Eye MD in Woodside was a total waste of time, money, and energy. If I could, I would give it zero stars. read more

I was able to be seen on time, and with quick results was happy to leave witn a peace of mind. The technology is up to date. My now 5-year-old son has been seeing Dr. Lichtenstein since he was 2 yrs. old. (His pediatrician noticed a subtle eye turn at one of his regular check-ups and suggested we get it looked into further.) We have since found that he had/has strabismus & amblyopia and also requires glasses. My son required surgery to straighten his eye turn when he was only 2 year old, and continues to see Dr. Lichtenstein for regular check-ups and continued treatment of his amblyopia/glasses prescriptions. Over the years, our whole family has gotten to know Dr. Lichtenstein and the rest of the staff well, and they know us all by name as soon as we come in the door. The women behind the desk are always friendly and helpful in making appts and reminding us when referrals are due. The waiting room is filled with toys & books, which is great, and we have even donated some outgrown toys to the office, since we appreciate them so much. Dr. Lichtenstein is great with my son, using a "Donald Duck" voice and even knowing all the words to (and singing) songs from Disney Jr.! More importantly though, I would not trust anyone else with my son's eye surgery. I did painstaking research when we found out about my son's condition and Dr. Lichtenstein proved to be one of the best doctors in the NY area, and in my opinion, certainly the best in Queens. He is an expert in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus & amblyopia specifically, but also treats a variety of other eye problems. It is common practice for patients to be quickly checked first by one of the Optometrists before seeing Dr. Lichtenstein (who is a ophthalmologist / M.D. and surgeon.) I always liked this because then you often get two opinions in one visit, and can feel comfortable knowing no one has missed anything. I have always found the Optometrists to also be knowledgeable and friendly as well, and we particularly love Dr. Markowitz! She is always lovely to us, explains everything thoroughly, and is so patient and great with our son. Our son had his surgery, when he was only 2 yrs old, with Dr. Lichtenstein at NY Eye & Ear - the premier eye hospital in Manhattan, where Dr. Lichtenstein preforms his surgeries and also is where he studied. "Dr. Eric" (as our son calls him) even gave our son a special Teddy Bear on the day of his surgery to bring into the operating room to comfort him (he later named the bear "Eric" after him and still has him on a shelf in his room.) Dr. Lichtenstein allowed me to go into the O.R. to stay with my son and comfort him until he was fully put under. He then hugged me as I cried when it was time to leave...it was a particularly memorable/hard moment in my life and I felt better knowing that I trusted him to care for my baby. It was also extremely comforting to know that this man, who had been seeing my son regularly and had really gotten to know him and his condition well, was the same person preforming the actual surgery to repair it. His eye is now perfectly straight with his glasses on, and you would never know he has/had strabismus. Though we do have setbacks over time with the amblyopia that requires additional treatment/patching, it is WAY better than it used to be, and we are optimistic that it will be fully under control by the time his eyes finish changing so much (as he gets older). I would certainly recommend Dr. Lichtenstein, Dr. Markowitz and the practice to anyone (and I do)! *On a side note...In response to the negative review below, I know from experience that it is common practice to spray young kid's eyes without warning - they do this specifically, because if they know it's coming, they will cringe or blink and it won't work. It is a necessary evil. And as I mentioned above, it is common practice to see an O.D. BEFORE seeing the M.D. - there is no switch. I have NEVER been to this office and not seen Dr. Lichtenstein himself...even for emergency or last-minute appts. read more

The reason I gave it to 2 stars is because an office is a whole team unfortunately one bad team player can affect the game and I had terrible experience where I was missing documentation for my child and this lady had to get involved to give permission, she was rude and too loud infront of other patients which can be some what embarrassing . She was very unprofessional speaking (trying to whisper) of other patients and what she didn't like during office hours in front of other patients. The front desk staff were friendly and showed immediate hospitality. The OD doctors were very nice and Dr. Lictenstein was amazing. DR Lichtenstein performed eye muscle surgery on my four year old with fantastic results. From the preparing for the surgery, through the actual surgical process, and post op care, the staff at Pediatric Eye MD was truly amazing. This was the third doctor that I had seen for my four year old who has autism that could actually get an accurate eye exam, prescribe him glasses and fix his estropia.
