("The doctor will ask that later.") Except he never does. In fact, you won't see Dr. Spaider till after you've been through a battery of tests spread over a three hour period with a lot of waits in between in a crowded glaringly lit waiting room. Then you'll see him for a cumulative five minutes. "Cumulative" because he keeps leaving the room Never introduces himself, never calls you by name, and extracting answers from him is like pulling hen's teeth. If you still want to go there, ask for another of their several doctors.

Basically you check in and then wait about 40 minutes, then get called by a technician. Spend five minutes getting a test then back to the waiting room. Another 15 or 30 minutes and another technician calls you. And so on. Then you wait for the doctor. The staff all seem capable and professional and most are pleasant. (However there is one woman who deserves special mention for being so rude. I think even she suspected she crossed the line and tried to mumble something at the end of my two minute test.) Try as they might to be fine on the individual basis, it's a factory assembly line and you will feel like you're a process not a person. I also don't appreciate that after all that and all that time I don't have a prescription, just a check on the bigger issues. So... good capable people and a big practice and I guess the sense that if it takes 2-3 hours for a regular non-emergency eye check they're on schedule.

I had an accident ( a hole in my retina ) after I hit my head in a car door . 9 weeks later could only see 3 fingers out of my right eye . I Was referred to him and told I needed surgery (virtrectomy) right away . If you don't know this is what's called "face down surgery ". Google it . I was terrified but his calm demeanor and explaining of what I needed and why helped . His bedside manner is great and he answers any questions I have . My retina was repaired, but this type of surgery can cause other issues, so I go regularly to ensure all is stable with my retina. Yes the wait time is horrendous . There are several other doctors in the same space and it gets crowded . I know the prevailing logic is "my time should be respected" and if this is you pass and go somewhere else . But for me, I plan my day accordingly and yes I do get annoyed waiting but I have at least 3 tests ( including the imaging with the dye to see the back of the retina) that I will continue to wait . Average wait time can be 2-3 hrs. Govern yourselves accordingly .

Oh wow, when I was there for doctor's visit, everyone seem nice and things went smoothly. After the…read moredoctor's visit, I went to the receptionist desk to request the clinical notes for the visit, and told it can't be done, because it was not ready, and to call back and request it over the phone. It is August, the receptionist did not identify who she was. I told her the request to be sent via mail or email my clinical notes and test records, since it was not ready then. She was the most rudest person with such an abrasive combative attitude. Talk about winning the trophy for having ZERO etiquette and professionalism in customer service. Even the manner in which was said, she don't know who the receptionist was. I immediately sense this was going to be a combative zone talking with her. She told me in the most aggressive tone, the waiver release was not signed to obtain the notes to be sent. I told her, I was there and given all the paperwork needed for the visit and release forms. She told me, "no you didn't". Just asking a question felt like an unnecessary confrontational. I kept my cool and monotone in my voice. But, you can feel the negative vibe brewing with her. I'm from New York and don't tolerate this. On the phone or online, acting tough just shows your insecurities, power-trip desire ego, and sadness in life. I told her, when I was there that day, I requested the clinical notes and records, the receptionist told me it wasn't ready to be printed, and she was the one who gave me all the paperwork to sign. If I didn't sign it, she would have inform me that I needed to sign another in order to release the notes and records to me, for when I call over the phone. At the end, after dealing with her nasty azz attitude, she told me, she need to ask the doctor later this week, if he can give permission to release the clinical notes to be sent to me. In person, the staff were professional and ran the place smoothly with no issue. I assumed they gave all the paperwork to sign to release the records. On the phone, it felt like a slugfest boxing match with words. In other words, they lied giving song and dance with a punch to not send the clinical notes when requested, since they don't give it right away, saying you have to call at a later time. Only to deal with this wackjob. Doctors are competent, office staff for in-person were adequate. But this woman, she needs to be replaced for someone who knows the decorum for customer service, to talk to patients over the phone.

My appointment was at 9:15am and it is now 12:30pm with no end in sight. They told me to expect a 2-3 hour wait but when the appointment verges into 4 hours, it is not worth a New Yorker's time. The waiting room was full of retired older people so they may have the time to wait but for people who have jobs and kids, give this a skip!

If there was a single word I could use to describe this office, it would be incompetence…read more In more words, it's not the doctor who is a friendly man who clearly knows what he is doing but just the way everything is handled and the staff (or well one person primarily who sits in front.) Having to book an annual eye exam as I haven't gotten one in a while, I went here. Located on the penthouse floor on the top of 185 Montague, you are told to arrive earlier than they open and you'll be seen within a few hours time as there aren't really appointment times. Having arrived 30 minutes before they open, there were 9(!) people ahead and I waited listening to an obnoxiously god awful movie for probably 2 hours and change before I saw him. The doctor did a good job with my exam and he said that there was no need to change my prescription and I left. I eventually needed a copy of my eyeglass prescription as I would likely need to buy a new pair. I called and asked for a copy or for it to be sent by mail. Someone answered and said they'd leave a message for Dr. Berman. Said message either never arrived or they forgot. Who knows? It wasn't the woman in front but some moron on the phone. It happened a second time and I explained what happened. It happened a third time this time during office hours and I believe she answered but I never got a response. Having been given the runaround and having lost one of my pairs, I was finally fed up and I decided to go there on a day I know they were open. I went there and calmly asked for my prescription. For some absurd reason, the person in front couldn't access my file and print out my eyeglass prescription and only the doctor can do so. As someone who works in medical finance, this makes zero sense. What's the point in an office worker in an ophthalmology office if they can't get a copy of a prescription? She eventually had the audacity to say that if I called earlier, they could have gotten it ready. I explained I did call and left a message and she even said she had received it and would have called me. The office had been open for several hours and she still had never called me. Thanks for being snappy over your incompetency. Eventually after another 30 minutes or so of waiting, I got it and she asked if I wanted a copy. I was thinking in the back of my mind that this all came from the fact that she couldn't get a copy originally so I said no. I also didn't ask for a copy there as I figured it would take another 15 minutes for her to make one. Too bad as the doctor was good because I am never showing up here again.

DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR…read more Firstly, nothing is private or secure. - While trying to explain my condition, Dr. Berman showed me medical records of other patients on his computer and identified them by name, both verbally and on the computer where I could see many other names and records. - Dr. Berman asked me and another patient in the waiting room what we were there for, in full hearing of each other. - I asked Sasha, the receptionist, for an email to send previous medical records to, and she provided me with her personal email. Secondly, Dr. Berman clearly did not read my chart before beginning my second appointment, and almost treated me for the wrong thing. - He asked me in the waiting room what I was there for, and assumed he didn't have to dilate my eyes. I had to remind him that he had specifically told me to be ready to be dilated. He relied on my recollection of what we were supposed to do that day rather than checking his own notes. - Once in the exam room, he kept asking me questions about a different complaint than I actually have. When I told him multiple times that it wasn't my complaint, he argued and dismissively told me multiple times that surgery wasn't an option (I had literally never mentioned surgery at any point during either appointment). It took more than 20 minutes to convince him to actually listen to me, after which we were finally able to get to talking about my actual condition. Lastly, the office has been very unprofessional about requests for medical records. [The State Health Department considers 10 to 14 days to be a reasonable time in which a practitioner should respond to such a request. ] - I asked them to fax my records to another provider as I was going for a second opinion. This was a full 4 weeks before the appointment with the other provider. Sasha became quite cool to me after that. - I followed up multiple times over 4 weeks to see if they'd sent the records, which they had not. Each time, Sasha assured me that they would be sent soon. - I began calling every day as my appointment with the other provider approached to remind them and ask them to fax the records. I made sure to tell Sasha the date of the other appointment. I left messages with their answering service on days the office was closed. - At the time of my appointment with the other provider, the records STILL hadn't been sent. - The following day, I faxed an official HIPPA medical information release form to their office. At no point had anyone mentioned this as a barrier or even something I needed to do. I only knew to do it because I had begun to research my legal rights. - Minutes after faxing the form, Dr. Berman called me to ask why I wanted a second opinion. I explained that a) a second opinion is completely standard, and b) I had been trying to get the records for almost a month. He made excuses until I started quoting the State Health Department regulations, at which point he agreed that I could pick up the records in person the following day.
