Just had a late dinner here on Sunday.. Sept 2017
The table was in the back of the bar area, as that was all that was " avail."
No problem ! Until we tried to read our menu's, It was SO dark we had to use our cell phones to read them.
The server didn't bring us any bread with the awesome sweet butter they make - So, I ORDERED some! Guess that's not an assumed treat any longer ?
The grilled chicken Nachos's were great, I was disappointed to learn #Main street Cafe no longer made stuffed mushrooms.
As our main course, I stuck with the Cobb salad, which had been my favorite since before the restaurant moved over from the "Victorian Lady." Which , is now a shell of its former glory and used as a tattoo shop. ( That's another story ) I think they should have stayed there! The ambiance was incredible! A real classy , and unique place when they occupied the building. Also, a close relationship between staff ,and the public thrived.
All the locals would be at the lower bar , while diners, sat above along a "S " curved upper level. With? its beautiful entry, of glass French Victorian doors, it always felt like you were royalty when you entered. Always greeted by their young beautiful hostess , I believe named Mindy at that time.
Back to the future - lol
My co diner had the mussels ,and sausage meal.
This was the 2nd time , my dinning partner ordered the same dish. (Different people - Same dish - 2 years apart.)
Sadly, both times very disappointed.
The mussels were small, and rubbery. It was bad. The sauce a tomato base.
I don't recall a real broth to the meal until it leaked on the way home, plastic container wasn't a good choice.
The sausage was just like giant hot dog slices cut up , and found at the bottom of the plate below the TINY mussels.
I wouldn't recommend this dish...
"Mussels and Sausage spicy dish...
disappointing to 2 different people , over 2 years!
The server was nice , and the coffee was cold.
And, tasted old. Maybe it was because we were talking/ shining our phone lights to see the menu, and , didn't drink it fast enough?
Lol!
Ok back to the food! The salad was good, A little light on the chicken and bacon, and even the blue cheese crumbles. I doubled up the honey dressing - was good... I had the side of their summer potato salad, It was too much DILL! But overall was OK..
I will prob return again in another year, when I am looking for a nice " place " to eat in willimantic.
They have no competition to speak of...
The Main Street Cafe caters to the college students , with brewing their own beer there, and that is their main focus. As, a fueled and for-filling - hobby of the owner -
Glad they occupy Main Street , but liked them a lot more when they were in the Victorian Lady building. The food quality was better, the intimacy of the unique building, along with the menu, made it feel like a FULL dining experience....
Not so much a pub feeling- w/ great Nachos and OK entrees -
Peace OUT!
I am a picky honest person-
Value - for all we ate the price was ok...
Better then the Uncle Dee's Log Cabin prices, but the food at the Log Cabin had Main Street beat.... /sorry Cindy ! read more
