Please take your vehicle to another VW dealership if you value your hard-earned money. I bought a 2014 Tiguan in April 2019, and a month later, the check engine light came on. I took the car in, and they ran a diagnostic, and two issues appeared: fault codes for turbo/under over boost and turbocharger pressure sensor. They only replaced the three wires for the pressure sensor. One month later, the check engine light came back on. Guess what the vehicle scan found; fault codes for the turbo under boost! Because it was under warranty, they were forced to replace it. Fast forward to May 2022, my check engine light comes back on for what? You guessed it, fault codes for turbo under boost! Since I am familiar with their tactics, I took the vehicle to be inspected before taking it to them. In a nutshell, the turbo should not fail on a car twice that only has 47K miles. Williams VW told me it wasn't the turbo under boost; the actuator rusted because "I babied the vehicle," "I didn't drive it enough," "weather conditions," and "I only drove locally." Reviewing my receipt from 2019, they didn't replace the actuator; they only replaced the turbo. Although, the turbo and the actuator are connected. To be clear, I put 12k miles on my vehicles over three years, but I didn't "drive it enough" They offered to "work with me for the low, low price of 2500! Save your money. They will milk you for every penny you've got. Then, they'll ask/tell you to apply for VW service credit card. I got FOUR letters in the mail where they did FOUR hard inquiries on my credit. These happened AFTER I told the guy not to run my credit, that I was going somewhere else. They wanted $1,000 (which included 10 hrs labor) to replace a part. I literally just did it in my driveway for $17.99 and it took about 20 minutes. They had a friend's Audi in the shop for SIX MONTHS. The day she got her car back, oil light came on. Don't waste your time with William's VW. Ordered a 2022 vw ID.4 last Dec (2021). I was informed 4 weeks ago it was shipped. When I asked what the out the door price would be I was told " once it hits US soil" they would know. Subsequently, the law has changed for the tax federal tax credit in the past 2 weeks. I read others had signed a purchase agreement prior to the law going into affect.....Wow their dealer must have known the out the door price. Tesla here I come....... read more

This company treated my daughters and I horribly. They took advantage of an 18 year old because they could and when This father called them they told me they had already received payment and perhaps if my daughter hadn't already paid I might have some leverage but since they ordered the parts (which they had NOT INSTALLED) they wouldn't return them because Subaru doesn't allow returned parts. So not only are they extremely rude with compromising ethics on how they take advantage of young women, they are Liars. Everyone accepts returns. I have never had such a great experience with any place like this. They oil the time before closing to go over everything there is to know about the Volkswagen. To Dan Barstow, Hannah, Jason, Abdul, and Trisha, words aren't enough to express how wonderful this experience was to get my husband a Jetta and to help me with my horrible experience from Al Serra Grand Blanc. I live in Ann Arbor, and there's a Subaru dealer in Ann Arbor, so why the heck would I drive all the way to Lansing to purchase my 6th Subaru? Because my experience with Williams was really that good! First, they absolutely crushed the deal I was offered in Ann Arbor by about $5,000 (between the new car and my trade-in) for a 2018 Crosstrek. I have had terrible service from Williams World VW service. I have scheduled appointments, dropped the car off the night before and it STILL takes them hours for a mileage maintenance service. I even had a service manager get in my face in the middle of the waiting area because I didn't agree with their subpar service. I've been driving out of Lansing to have my Passat serviced but schedules at times makes it difficult. During the pandemic I needed to get a mileage maintenance service with oil change and tire rotation. While driving away I heard a brake rubbing sound and when I called back I was told they were checked and fine when I left. I suppose implying something had occurred within the hour since I left. I took the car to another repair shop, the front brakes were almost metal to metal. This was supposed to be apart of their multi-point inspection. While the car was in the shop for the brake repair, I was told I really need new tires. It was mentioned at Williams but I was told it could wait until their tire sale which was coming in a couple of months. I just have the first mileage maintenance service since Williams and was told that the oil pan plug was stripped. DO NOT GO TO WILLIAMS VW service or do and pay later for their subpar service. read more

This review was intially a 5 star, but service after the sale has been shockingly poor. The 2016 Volkswagen we purchased has a problem with the windows freezing, which prevents the doors from opening. We have copied in Tavi, who I believe is related to the owner, multiple times in our emails to corporate. Not a single response, nothing. Please consider that before you buy from them. Please consider that you won't hear back when your practically new car doesn't work. No email, no call back, nothing. Caveat emptor: this is a review for the Subaru maintenance at Williams. I don't know about their other (VW, etc) maintenance or their sales. Early morning on the day before Thanksgiving, I was getting ready to drive back home to see my family. I was set to go - I had just had my Subaru's oil changed at one of those random big-box oil change places. This was, in retrospect, a mistake as I walked out to find a quart of fresh, new oil under my car from overnight. So I discovered that Williams was the local Subaru dealer, and I limped my car over at 7am when they opened, only to be informed that their technicians don't show up until 8am. By this point, I was already running an hour late and very dismayed. After hearing my story, the service manager pulled my car into the empty garage, took off his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeves and gave me a proper oil change (complete, of course, with the proper Subaru oilpan washer that the Other Guys had neglected.) That's service enough to earn my business for life. read more

An email I sent to Williams Autoworld after my experience with their Used car mgr. Bill Omenn. Dear Sirs, I am writing to express my immense frustration with recent events regarding Williams AutoWorld. I purchased a 2012 VW Beetle from Williams VW approx. Oct.24th 2019. We have suffered a breakdown of our 2012 VW Beetle (6/4/202) and had it towed to your service shop expecting it to be covered under the basic warranty. I was informed by your service dept. that there was a $2000 price tag for the needed repairs and that was not covered at all. At this point I made a call to your Pre-Owned Sales Manager Bill Ommen (more on him in a bit). Bill explained the differences between what defines a "Certified Pre-Owned" and "Certified Protection". I realized at this point that the semantic hairsplitting that Bill was performing would lead nowhere and according to him Williams could not help. Now, Bill Ommen... (Used Car Mgr.) I have been a computer consultant for over 20 years working for multiple fortune 500s. I say that not to toot my own horn, but to establish that I am experienced in this area. I feel Bill Ommen is much in need of extensive instruction on how to work with people. People, by the time they reach his phone might be upset, they might yell, they might scream, they might even curse. His JOB is dealing with the public (irate or not). Not to tell customers (me) "Don't yell at me" And not engaging with me unless I spoke softer. So, I spoke softer. Then he complains that he "can hear my wife in the next room" and would not engage with me. I had to close the door to the room I was in before he would continue. It was degrading and insulting! I believe this guy is a complete communications failure. How can you allow such treatment of your customers? I have had my vehicle towed from Williams (after having it towed to Williams) to have my usual mechanic work on it. I am getting my car fixed by my local mechanic for $820. Why was Williams estimate some 2.5x's what I was quoted locally to get it fixed? While drafting this email I received a phone call from Williams service department. The gentleman I spoke with was knowledgeable and respectful (take note Bill Ommen). I was told that there was nothing that the "Warranty" area could do for me but he ("Service" area) might be able to reduce the total cost of repairs. Then I was told that they could split it with me 50/50. Which is clearly more than I am paying now. I told the gentleman from the service dept no thanks. Why were none of these options presented sooner? One last piece of commentary to wrap up. It truly is revealing in this time of businesses making accomodations for customers to ease their pain during these trying times. What does it say about a company when during such times customers are degraded and disrespected and not given all options available upfront? This has been my Williams Auto World experience. I wanted to make you aware of why you lost a customer today. Joe Insko p.s. I almost neglected to mention the driver side mirror fell off about a month after purchase. Somehow there was a piece of mirror cut exactly and glued to the original broken mirror. I originally let that one slide. Mr. Insko, Thank you for emailing me your comments regarding your experience with  servicing your VW Beetle.  First, I will use your comments as a coaching tool with Bill Ommen.  I do however ask customers to discuss their concern or frustration rather than yelling, swearing and/or being irate.  Both parties communicate better when discussing an issue rather then yelling, everyone is much calmer and relaxed to work towards a solution rather than an impasse. The repair that is needed on your Beetle's suspension is unfortunate.  As an authorized dealer, we usually use OEM parts on newer vehicle repairs, that do come with a 1 year/12,000 mile manufacturer warranty and are of a higher quality.   OEM parts are more expensive for sure, but the quality is superior to non-OEM.  We do offer less expensive repair alternatives, but usually on older, high mileage vehicles (as their future lifetime on the road is usually a  lot less). We offered to repair your vehicle for $1,000, using OEM parts with a warranty which is fair on an nine year old vehicle.  I'm glad that Mike Boren, Service Manager, was able to assist you and offer some helpful information should you choose to have your vehicle repaired elsewhere.  Please contact me if you have any further questions or if you wish to have us complete the needed repairs.  Have a great day and stay safe. I have a 10 yr old VW Golf that I take there for service. I have only had my car serviced by vw dealerships. I have moved around the country a bit and they are by far the best service dept. I have dealt with. They are honest and trustworthy - they will not tell you something needs to be fixed when it can wait. They have kept my car running great to the point I know I will be able to depend upon it for a few more yrs. Ask for Milt Bliss - he's the best. He was patient with me throughout the whole process (I wasn't always an easy customer). The final step, financing, was painless. Service is no where to be found at Williams Auto. We purchased a new 2010 VW from them. We have had nothing but problems. Problems on two fronts: 1. Sales - The salesman Ben did not know enough about the car he was selling to fully answer our questions. Yes, I now due dilagence falls upon the buyers, but the problems we have had with our VW is mind numbing. 2. Service - We have asked serveral times to have the issues taken care of. We have worked our way up the "service ladder" but no one will listen and they simply say... "Tough, you got a good deal anyway" Stay away from this place. It is worth the Drive to Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor for a better dealer. read more

Awful, awful, awful dealership. Stay away at ALL costs. I bought a "certified Pre-owned" vw beetle that had a "clear car fax" but after buying the car and detailing it over the weekend noticed the paint had long horizontal cracks all along the bumper. I took it to my local body shop and they said this car has been repainted and apparently had been in an accident. The support brackets under the bumper were bent and needed to be replaced. I called the dealership to let them know about what I found and they basically said..."you are screwed, and we are not going to help fix this." I will NEVER EVER EVER buy anything from the clowns at this location. I would recommend anyone looking for a VW to contact Ann Arbor VW, they treat people right and their maintenance on vehicles (like DSG trans changes) are $100 less than the crooks at Williams. read more

The service department is one of the worst I've dealt with. I have 2 daughters at MSU, both drive VW TDI Wagons. I've had to get one of the cars serviced several times and in each case she either had to take the car back to get the problem fixed again, or bring it back home so I could repair it properly. Even items as simple as an oil change resulted in additional problems, parts broken by mechanics, work not completed but charged for. The worst experience was dealing with the service manager, Mike Born. He will lie to you, take your money, and tell you he's doing you a favor all in the same sentence. The most recent failure resulted in me having to buy parts that the mechanic broke when attempting to reinstall a grab handle in the headliner. The mechanic bent the part that the handle was supposed to attach to. Instead of fixing it properly he decided to glue the handle in with epoxy which lasted long enough to get the car off the lot and ruined the perfectly good handle as well. After filing a complaint with Volkswagen of America and speaking with Mike Born, the liar and cheating service manager, I ended up fixing the problem myself once again. Apparently he thinks young girls bringing their vehicles in for service are an easy target to rip off. They charged me $345 to remove the headliner and clean out 2 sunroof drains that were clogged and leaking water into the headliner. I paid it. I got the vehicle back with broken parts, Mike told me they were single use parts which I found odd since there were 4 identical grab handles in the headliner, 3 of which came out and went back in without incident. Apparently only the 4th is a "single use part". I then had to purchase a new handle at nearly $60, remove the handle bracket that was bent and broken by the mechanic, reshape it, file it, reinstall it, and put it back together properly and everything worked just fine. His generous offer leading up to my repair was for me to take a day off, spend 3 hours driving the car back to Lansing for repairs and he would only charge me 50%. So I get to pay for them to correct their own mistakes, buy the parts myself that they ruined, take a full day off work to do this and he is "doing me a big favor because he doesn't have to do anything at all". Horrible, terrible, dishonest, flat out bold face lies is what you will get from their service department. Stay as far away from Williams Volkswagen as you can get. read more

I took my 2005 VW Touarag into service dept, it was vibrating very bad when accelerating quickly and then letting off the gas which was explained to their service representative when the vehicle was brought to them. He was also told a couple of friends who were not a licensed mechanic's thought it was something to do with the transmission. The service dept called me after looking it over and recommended new brakes and new vacuum pump and lines, I took their diagnosis because they are the experts or so I thought. $2300.00 later I pickup the car only to have the same issue twice on my way home. I took it back in the next day, and the mechanic went for a ride with me, within 5 minutes he felt the vibration, 6 days later they came back with a price of $7,000.00 or $11,000.00 for a used or new transmission, after speaking (complaining) to the service manager he offered $1000.00 off the price of the transmission work if I decided to go with the transmission. Why I was not given the offer to take a mechanic for a ride when I initially took the vehicle in for service I do not know. Upon purchase , 3-2012, I commented that the service was as important to me as the purchase! Now, we are experiencing annoying,loud squeaking breaks when backing up. Will not detail all that has been said in three conversations and a trip to the dealership. Hard to believe that this high end car at the cost of $49 thousand is getting looked at do the wrong reason. Was informed that it is a trait in cold, wet conditions but that the breaks are okay. Seems strange the squeak started the second winter. I. Had so hoped for better attention to service & quality. Right now, I would not buy another. read more

After a long day of car shopping, I put a down payment on a vehicle here. I only did it because I wanted a Crosstrek and they had it. I was paying a little more than I should, but they tried to scare me telling me my car was going to fall apart. Then, they called me 3 days later telling me I couldn't get the interest rate I wanted and I had to use a bank I didn't want to use. I have good credit and paid off a Subaru loan 6 months early. When I explained that I wasn't going to do that, the financial advisor then found a way to get it through Subaru. The issue I had at that point was I didn't trust this dealership. I decided I wanted to think about this. The salesman then called and made it a point that they had the vehicle and that there was no Crosstreks in the state of Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio. I then decided that it was time to part ways. I don't like lying and I hate the face that this dealership uses lies to sell cars. I would say they are pleasant, but I would be careful! read more

As a mechanic who usee to work in a relative's family owned garage, I would highly recommend you take your vehicle elsewhere. We brought a Jetta in to have that one specific task done on it as I did not have the tools or vehicle specific parts to finish a job in a friends garage. We weren't told on the phone before having it towed there that they were going to charge us $120-60 just to look at it. The service manager, Mike just kept going on about how every other service center I go to will charge the same thing and that no one is going to check it over for free. Well, Mike, you're right, most places don't check it over for free, but most will also just do the repair job you ask them to do instead of charging for something that isn't needed....that's what you call "hidden" fees. What's really funny is even before they had a chance to look at it, they had an invoice written up to replace the power steering pump....hmmm...pretty sketchy Mike. I've had friends who have worked for shops and told me some crazy stories of how they would bill for extra anything, any work that brought money into the shop, especially when it required parts....dealerships, like this one, will over charge an insane amount for something you buy direct OEM for half the cost elsewhere. So if you're able, take it somewhere they are straight forward with you and will do what you ask, not what they want. read more

William Subaru took advantage of me. I don't know if it was because I am a young female or because I have a very out of state license plate but they tried to convince me I needed over $4,000 dollars worth of work done on my car. In reality my car was perfectly fine- I got a trusted car mechanic to look it over and nothing was wrong. They also over charged me for an oil change I have gotten done at other Subaru locations for cheaper. Lastly, they took double the time necessary to do an oil change and lied to me about how long it would take. Very unprofessional. Never going back. read more

I just purchased a pre-owned VW Passat from here, and the experience was excellent. I went to several other dealerships in the area, looked at both new and used cars, and Williams blew them out of the water. No high-pressure tactics or shady pricing, just walk on the lot, get a decent price and excellent service and leave happy. Everyone was very open and honest, and I never got those looks from salesmen like I was wasting their time if I didn't buy right away. The car is excellent, the experience was excellent. I would recommend to anybody looking for a VW, or just an experience with a dealer that doesn't leave you feeling terrible after you walk off the lot. read more

Called the Subaru sales department got a guy named Ben on the phone. I started asking him questions about the 2015 Outbacks that had just arrived. He was very unwilling to give me any info on the models and options of the cars they had in. After almost all of my questions being answered "I don't know" and no willingness to find out I asked him what the sticker price was. He then informed me he was standing in front of one of the cars that he knew nothing about. After he read me the the sticker price I asked him how much they usually take off that price to make a sale he then told me they sell there 2015's at sticker price. I quickly asked him if he meant that I had to pay full sticker price to make sure I didn't misunderstand and he told me yes. I informed him that I had already talked to another dealer that took $2803 off the sticker and he wouldn't have to ever worry about me coming in there for anything. read more
