They have a nice extensive menu, offering breakfast pastries, GF items, vegan desserts, as well as coffee and cold drinks. When I went, most of the items seemed to have been sold out for the day - I saw a scrumptious-looking large cookie labeled as a 'Millionaire Cookie', and got one of those. It was packed inside a cute little treat bag. The cookie itself had a nice crisp exterior and the insides was dense with a slight of chewiness; definitely chunks of chocolate throughout, but it wasn't overly sweet. It was a nice accompaniment to coffee or tea! Staff were so friendly and kind. There are a handful of seating inside to enjoy your treats before you head on your way; I loved how the cafe itself was well-cooled and comfortable! I'd like to return to check out some of their other pastries on the next visit. Featuring a changing/rotating menu of cookies, pies, and cakes, this quaint shop was recently opened by a local Richmond family with the dream of feeding your soul one baked good at a time! At their soft opening over the weekend, I sampled just about everything they had to offer. Not only are the sweet tears gorgeous to look at, they are also ridiculously delicious. Of the three cookie choices, the dark chocolate chip cookie with sea salt was my favorite. Rich, buttery, with the perfect balance of salt, sweet, and semi-bitter dark chocolate. Perfectly crunchy edges with a soft, chewy center. The decadent Death by Chocolate brownie was also a knockout. I'm still trying to understand what voodoo magic was used to create the perfectly crisp edges and the sublimely moist, chewy center! While delectable by itself, I fully intend to go back for more to make a brownie sundae next time I need to eat my feelings. At the suggestion of one of the kiddos behind the counter, I opted for the carrot cake over the berry pie. Hard to go wrong here with this classic cake and it definitely did not disappoint. It's on par with any southern grandma's cake but only better! Pies and Cakes also does custom orders with advanced notice! Prior to the brick and mortar, we ordered cakes for several special occasions that were always as beautifully decorated as they were tasty! And as if all this weren't enough, they will have bi-monthly pizza pop ups featuring their very own homemade sourdough! It's an adorable, quaint shop, with no indoor seating, which just adds to its charm. There's always the same friendly woman working the front, while the owner bakes in the back. I tried the viral fruit entremet and chose the mango and raspberry flavors. The mango entremet featured a delicious custard and mango filling within a beautiful hard shell, but my personal favorite was the raspberry. The raspberry custard paired with the raspberry filling was truly outstanding. I also sampled their chicken sandwich croissant, made with their homemade croissant. It was super filling; although I thought the chicken salad could use a little more seasoning, it was still enjoyable. I'll definitely be back to try more pastries and I might even book them for an event!

The new location is a beautiful corner shop, with better parking, better lighting, better seating, and even more space for the amazing baked goods we know and love. I would recommend an individual thing but it doesn't matter. Short of an allergy, nothing you can have there is a bad idea. Pain chocolate? Amazing. Kouign-amann? Surprisingly soft and fluffy. Thai iced coffee? Smooth, strong, not too sweet, and beautifully refreshing. I can't wait until the pasteles de nata are back on my hands. So should you try it? Hell, I'm house-hunting now so I can move closer.
