Fool dropped a prosthetic tooth on the floor, where the dog he keeps in the office walks, then glued it into my mouth. Other veneers broke. Don't believe the positive reviews. Dental hygienist charges too much and does at best a so-so job. They get you to come in for a cleaning every 4 months, while every 6 months is all that's necessary. Where I go now, a US, university-trained dentist himself does the cleaning (and charges less). Saupe, too, charges as much as he can and performs only a minimally perfunctory exam, if he does one at all. (I have an underlying disease that requires monitoring each visit.) Office does not have latest technology: In-office, low-dose, digital x-rays are not available and there's no ultrasonic cleaning. Only positive thing I have to say is that parking is free. read more

Great dentist. Made my appliance when I broke my tooth and had to wait for implant. When I chipped the flipper with eating an orange, brought it in and he repaired and sent to my house within a week. Friendly efficient staff. Highly recommend. Marcy is the best. read more

Great Prosthodontist. This is my 3rd set of dentures, 1st from Dr. Saupe, and are by far the best. They look more like my original teeth and fit really well on delivery. My regular dentist sent me to Dr. Saupe after she had installed a crown and just couldn't get my 'bite' back into alignment. Dr. Saupe really listened to what I told him and then gently, and carefully started making minute adjustments to the 'high' spots. It seems as though this dentist doesn't need $6K in new businesses. I was referred to him by the oral surgeon who put in my implants, however when I called to schedule an appointment, the receptionist Marcie was quite rude. She actually accused me of wanting to perpetuate fraud against the insurance company when I asked some questions about how I could fully maximize my claim benefit. This was highly insulting but again, since the oral surgeon so highly recommended this guy, I hung in there. As it got closer to my appointment, I received no follow up notice, or no preapproval notice from this place. I began to wonder if they had cancelled me from their books. I called several times and asked why I was the one placing all the follow up calls. Marcie's weak response was " we are very busy." What is so galling is that I would be paying them cash money, out of my own pocket, to the tune of $6,000 for this procedure. It's not like they're doing this for free or giving me some discount. When I did some comparison shopping I found out this place charges top dollar, WAY MORE than other dentists. So I cancelled my appointment and went with another dentist (whose staff was much nicer) and I feel so much better about it. Why do I have to be treated poorly AND give them money for it???! read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Saupe. He fills my cavities pain free and his assistant Linda taught me how to floss better so that now my gums are actually getting healthier as I age! My husband and I have been going to Dr Saupe more than 10 years now, and he's never disappointed us. He is very responsive even at the emergency situations. Last year, at the night of 4th of July eve, I broke my front tooth when I was playing with my dog (total accident and my dog head hit my front teeth hard while my dog got no injury). I called him who was already at home enjoying the pre-4th and told me to meet up at his dental office in 30 mins so that he could take a look at my broken tooth! He game a temporary treatment right there and saved my tooth! He's a super friendly great person. I believe he still teaches future dentists to be once a week. After al lot of agony with my dentures, I wanted someone who was a expert. I interviewed 2 other prosthrodonists. Then I was fortunate to find Dr. Saupe. He is gentle, carefull, a good listener and he is THE EXPERT!. After he fixed the mess I had in my mouth, I was fine for a long time but my gums got to the point where I was putting in "tooth glue" a lot. It seemed impudent to have to often have relinings, etc He had advised me before to consider implants, which I finally did!. He had 2 implants put it and now I am SO relieved. I'm just writing my experience, that's what I know best. I'm lucky excellent Berkeley dentist Dr. Berger referred me to Dr. Saupe for an implant of my most-visible frontal tooth I lost in an accident. For the first time, I left a medical office really happy, feeling I was in good hands, kinda shook my head thinking, "It's not supposed to be this easy, but I'm leaving with a big smile." I'm a middle-aged guy with decades of serious dental issues, and I know it doesn't get any better than this. Every aspect of my experience was excellent; the best dental care, friendly calls from Marcie at the desk, a painless injection I didn't even feel, to the super-cool standard poodle "Gia" strutting behind the desk, all in a very comfortable office on a tree-filled street. It's funny, after my implant was in, I was so blown away by the experience, I walked to a Berkeley flower store to get Marcie something for her desk, going on and on with the florist about what a fantastic dentist I'd found. She laughed and told me she knew exactly what I was talking about, that Dr. Saupe had been her family dentist for years. Oh yeah, I came to Berkeley from Marin, and I'll make the drive in a second for such excellent care of my teeth, I found the best. read more

Dr. Saupe was the third dental professional I took my 89-year-old mother to. The first just rung his hands; the second said she needed to have all her teeth removed and that dentures would be difficult for her to use. Then we saw Dr. Saupe. He assessed the situation carefully and gently led my mother through the process of getting an upper denture. He suggested we leave the bottom teeth in as long as possible. My mother just got her upper denture last week and they fit perfectly. By that evening she hardly knew they weren't her real teeth! He will be her regular dentist now. Thank God!!!
