Dr. Lu has very sensitive hands and very experienced and efficient. He tells you what needs to be fixed and what can wait. He's giving you advice based on patient's perspective. He isn't the type where he'll coerce you to overpay for treatments you really don't need or have too little of the marginal benefits to the overall health of your teeth. Also, my wife and I had been to other dentists in or near Oakland (Dragon Dental and Pacific East Dental Care) where the dentists would charge you an exorbitant price for what doesn't need to be done like deep cleaning. You always need someone like Dr. Rong Lu to give you a fair evaluation of your overall dental health. There are also other dental offices (Cheung Dental Group in Milpitas) that are 4-7 months booked in advance so the wait time is too long even the dentist is good. Even tho' I also would recommend Dr. Cheung, I think it's just hard to get to see him these days. I will give a 8.5 stars out of 5 for Dr. Rong Lu. I definitely would like to nominate this dental office for the dental office of the year in 2024!

Located down the street from my house, ESO Dental is an office my mom and sister have been going to for several years. I just turned 26, have my own dental insurance through my employer, and hadn't been to the dentist since 2020. When we checked in, we were told that they accept Delta Dental, so I was excited to finally get a cleaning after such a long time. Unfortunately, my first impression of the office was not a positive one. The front desk staff came across as standoffish and rude. When I asked questions, I felt like I was being talked down to rather than helped. During my initial exam, the hygienist also seemed standoffish and appeared annoyed when I asked questions. Dr. Hoang, however, was the highlight of my experience and the reason I'm giving this office two stars instead of one. He was very kind, checked in on me frequently, and was understanding of my fear of the dentist. I appreciated his compassion, and we discussed a treatment plan before I scheduled my cleaning for the following Monday. When checking out, I again had difficulty getting clear answers from the receptionist about my insurance. Since this was my first time using my own dental insurance, I had questions and was trying to understand how the process worked. I was told I would need to pay upfront and Delta Dental would reimburse me afterward. Because I had been told the office accepted my insurance, I didn't realize there might be an issue with my coverage. Over the weekend, I checked my claim through Delta Dental and discovered that ESO Dental was listed as out of network. I was confused and frustrated because I had never been clearly informed of this. According to my insurance information, Delta Dental would cover only 25% of the cleaning charges, leaving me responsible for a much larger portion of the bill than I had anticipated. On Monday morning, I called the office to clarify the situation. I was told that Delta Dental was out of network and that I had signed a form acknowledging this. However, when I asked the receptionist to read me the relevant portion of the form, there was no mention of Delta Dental being out of network. She explained that having to pay upfront and receive reimbursement from Delta Dental afterward was an indication that the office was out of network and that I should have known this. As someone who was new to navigating dental insurance, I found this explanation incredibly frustrating. I had specifically asked about insurance and was told that they accepted Delta Dental, yet I left my appointment without a clear understanding of my out of network status or the financial implications. I am now responsible for hundreds of dollars in charges for my initial exam and X-rays that I had not anticipated. When I tried to cancel my upcoming cleaning because I could no longer afford it, I was also told that I would be charged a cancellation fee. At this point, I felt that I had not been given the information I needed to make an informed financial decision, and the entire experience left me feeling taken advantage of. What frustrated me most was repeatedly being told that I had been informed of my out of network status when that was not my said during any of the conversations I had with the office. Dr. Hoang was genuinely kind, and I wish the rest of my experience had reflected that same level of care. If you have confirmed that your insurance is in network and are comfortable with the billing process, your experience may be different. However, I strongly recommend verifying your specific network status and expected out of pocket costs directly with your insurance provider before receiving treatment here. I went into this experience excited to finally return to the dentist, but I left feeling frustrated, confused, and disappointed by the lack of clear communication surrounding insurance and billing.

Absolutely horrific wisdom teeth removal experience (I was forced to shatter my own teeth). More…read morebelow I am a regular patient of Total Health Dental. After years of putting off wisdom teeth removal, I finally decided to do it while in my early/mid 30's. Total Health only offered nitrous, not general anesthesia. I didnt know that this wasnt normal, or even an option. But that was hardly the issue. After trying to remove my wisdom teeth, the surgeon was struggling and said we need to try another way. So he placed a metal rod on my tooth and asked me to bite down on it as hard as possible. Then he proceeded to yell "harder, harder, harder". Until I finally heard a shattering noise in my ear. He literally had me shatter my tooth by biting it. And THEN, had me repeat that 3 more times until all four were shattered. After the surgery, he prescribed me an opiod. While I didnt want to take them, I had my wife, who is a physician pick up the meds in case I needed them. While she was there, the pharmacist noted that it was odd to have a paper prescription since nothing was sent in their computer system. They then called the number on the prescription, and it went to a google phone number, literally. They refused to fill the prescription. We had to call Total Health Dental who then had to track the surgeon down and figure out whats going on. Long story short, if you want to avoid shattering your OWN teeth while you are fully awake, and aware, just go ANYWHERE else.

No one explained the delay or communicated what was happening. So far, it has taken three separate appointments just to get X-rays reviewed, schedule a cleaning, and see the orthodontist. I understand that healthcare offices get busy, but repeatedly making patients return for incomplete appointments, combined with poor scheduling, long waits, and a lack of communication, shows little respect for patients' time. I have had extensive dental experiences throughout the years and Dr. Woo's office is at the top of the list! I first started seeing Dr. Michael Woo over a year ago after some visits to some 'questionable' dentists. I had been given a lengthy and expensive treatment plan and wanted a second opinion, so I found Dr. Woo through Yelp. My experience was a treat from the start, with Bonnie and Stacy's friendly front office demeanor making me feel comfortable the minute I walked in. After meeting the very personable Dr. Mike, he went through a meticulous examination, and it turns out all I needed were a couple small fillings, not the $4k treatment plan the other unscrupulous dentist recommended! After a very thorough cleaning and a couple painless fillings, I now understand what high quality dentistry is all about. Dr. Mike explained to me what was going on every step of the way, easing my dental anxieties, and making me feel as comfortable as I've ever felt in a dental chair. Then on the way out, Bonnie clearly broke down what my insurance was going to cover and what my copay was (extremely reasonable). Since then, scheduling routine cleanings has been quick and simple, as they always go out of their way to accommodate my very busy schedule. I've been a patient of the Drs. Woo for about thirty years. I've always been more than satisfied with the quality of dental work they've done - and in thirty years, it's been a lot! Dr. Willie Woo has always been thorough, professional, and extremely talented. It's obvious that Dr. Michael Woo is following closely in his dad's footsteps. One thing I especially appreciate about their practice is the personal touch and involvement of Dr. Woo (either one) in the visit, and that they do their own cleaning and exam. As a patient of their practice you're seen by them from start to finish, you're not shuttled off to some dental hygienist. And, I can't sing highly enough the praises of the font office, especially Bonnie, the receptionist/office manager. She's nice, and professional, and friendly, and competent beyond expectation; she will do whatever she can to get you in in case of emergency. Recently, I had a painful, infected tooth and called Dr. Michael Woo's office. I spoke with the receptionist first thing in the morning. They were able to get me in less than 2 hours and Dr. Michael Woo was able to resolve the abscess. I have been seeing Dr. Michael Woo for years. His office is different than many other dental offices in that they are very personable, honest and fair. The staff has been the same for many years and are always warm and friendly. Dr. Michael Woo has a very gentle touch and always takes time to explain procedures. They are always open and clear with what work needs to be done and how much the charges will be. I have brought my two children 6 and 8 to the office also. They are great with kids and make sure the kids get to choose from the toy box after the appointment. The visits have always been positive. I have compared their fees with those of my friend's dentists and Dr. Woo's fees were actually lower than what others were charging for cleanings and exams. I have a dentist in Sacramento who I loved, but getting tired of driving so far and being stuck in traffic. I booked an appointment with Dr. Woos office last week. I was greeted by Bonnie, who's gave me a big smile and a form to fill out. Dr. Mike is who I saw for the cleaning. I was shock when I saw him with a sling on his left arm. I quickly ask, should I rescheduled my appointment ? He laugh and said " No , I use my right hand to do all the works. " After a brief chat, he introduce his assistant Stacy who also scheduled my appointment to take X-rays on me. I like her, she is very gentle with the X-ray sensor and constantly asking if I doing ok. After the X-rays is done, Dr. Mike came back in, look at my X-rays and tell me I'm cavity free. YES ! my brushing and flossing paid off ...LOL. My cleaning hurt a little but my teeth feels clean. Dr. Mike did a good job scraping them. He told me to rinse with warm salted waters that will help the sore gums. Over all I like this office, they are very nice and friendly. Will be back for my 6 mos cleaning. read more

Dr Woo is an incredibly professional, knowledgeable and careful dentist . A few days ago I had a terrible tooth ache. The friendly receptionist understood how much pain I was in & gave me a same day appt. Dr Woo took the time to listen to me and found my problem. I've been a loyal customer along with my kids for over 25+ years. Dr Woo has never made me feel hurried and has taken the time to explain my options even when I didn't have insurance. Yesterday my tooth that had previously cracked started hurting. A nerve was exposed and the tooth was rotting. I was really stressed out as I could not afford to get a root canal. Dr. Woo helped me with my options and told me that a root canal probably wouldn't work anyway. The only real option was to have the tooth extracted. Dr. Woo told me that it would be a difficult procedure but that he liked a challenge. He was confident and reassuring. The tooth put up a real fight but Dr. Woo prevailed. I have irrational fear and anxiety around having my teeth worked on and it'd been 2-1/2 years since…read moremy last visit to the dentist. I am so fortunate that I walked into this office of exceptional staff. For my cleaning Julie was my hygienist and she used a Cavitron to remove plaque. The sound and feel is a lot more tolerable then the scrapping that I was used to and it went fast! Julie took off what was left quickly, efficiently, must come from experience. I was so happy I made it through that appointment, due to my anxiety, and my teeth felt clean and amazing afterwards. My last dentist scrapped so hard and left them feeling like skeleton teeth. My next appointment was for fillings, three replacements and one new one. I was nervous and trying NOT to freak out but I couldn't help it, I had a total panic attack in the chair. This is embarrassing, but I want to say that this staff has amazing bedside manners. Lee'lannee put my chair up, dried tears from eyes and was earnestly concerned, it was comforting. She wanted to remove all the tools that she had just set me up with. She had Dr. Martenson come in to talk to me, she listened to my irrational reasons of being scared and was so kind and genuine and answered my questions, gave me a different way to think about the things that were freaking me out. All of which helped me calm down. They offered nitrous to help me relax, I couldn't tell a big difference but the sound it made helped to dampen all the sounds of what they were doing in my mouth. I was worried it would add cost but they didn't charge for it. Once I was settled they worked efficiently and they would tell me what they were doing at different points. At one time Dr. Martenson and Lee'lannee told each other about their kids, the day before was Halloween so it was really nice to listen to. Later that evening Dr Martenson called to check on me and see if I was doing alright. I am truly impressed with this compassion. Christine and Elaina were at the front desk when I was there and they are also cheery and friendly, this office is truly full of amazing staff.

I cannot recommend, they have a disorganized new patient process. I stated on my intake form I…read morewanted cleaning, x-ray and general health check of my teeth. I cleared my schedule and was on time to my appointment. I get there and recieve X-rays, as you usually would, but the cleaning never happened, time was going by and I kept waiting for someone to come in and clean my teeth before I finally got fed up and inquired at the front desk, they told me I was booked for an "exam" only. Ridiculous.
