I would rate the care I received from Dr. Amy Blake D.D.S. a 5/5. I had received dental cleanings, a crown, and referrals for oral surgery over the past seven years. I was informed that Dr. Blake left the practice. I have not been able to speak with anyone or receive a text or call back to schedule a cleaning appointment. I take away a star because of communication and ease of making an appointment is not there. read more

The communication at this office is atrocious. I have left messages, sent emails, and called the office countless times. Not a single response to any of these. When calling the office, you always get a prompt to leave a voicemail. No one ever responds to that voicemail. Thinking that Dr. Nam might be on vacation. I waited a couple weeks before leaving this review. No response whatsoever. If the type of care you would receive here, or the quality of care is that all correlated to their communication style, I would be very worried about being a patient here. read more

A dentist at this practice told my wife that she needed to have quite a few teeth extracted due to gum disease. I believe it was 11 teeth. She consulted with other dentists and periodontists and was treated and given a plan for extensive ongoing professional and self care. She has not needed to have a single extraction and her teeth are now in good condition. The extractions recommended at Daniel Nam's practice would have had extensive negative impacts (need for major procedures, pain, cosmetic effects, cost). She was encouraged to proceed with the extractions and given no encouragement to consider alternative treatment approaches. In retrospect we consider the recommendations given to be quite irresponsible. read more

Then to asking you how did you reach them and request you info about your insurance, they will put on an waitlist during months. What kind of health service are they offering? Been coming here for years, seeing doctor Blake. They are even out of network now and I still go because I can't imagine finding a better dentist! Just have to say, after two different extractions, Dr. Nam is the certifiable ,"Ninja" of dentists, even with the difficulty of longer roots, both extractions were quick and actually painless; his staff are all attentive and well trained. Dr. Nam and his team made me feel really comfortable during my x-rays and cleaning there. They were really time efficient, very clean, and I was a bit surprised at how much they tried to make me feel comfortable given experiences at other dentists. I came in to Dr. Nam's office on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, for a new patient exam. The experience left much to be desired because of the long wait time. My pre-appointment experience was quite good: the office's staff gathered courteously information from me regarding availability and insurance. They confirmed my appointment in the days leading up to it. The main problem arose when I arrived at the clinic and was seated in the exam room. The hygienist informed me that Dr. Nam would be with me shortly. I waited half an hour--with no updates from the staff--before Dr. Nam saw me. There was no apology for the wait. I decided to give them another shot and came in on August 20, 2019, for a dental cleaning. Unfortunately, the wait times were nearly just as long. I ended up waiting 20 minutes in the waiting room and another 20 minutes after he hygienist saw me. Total of 40 mins of waiting. This wasn't the experience I was hoping for as a new patient. This clinic needs to do a more judicious job of scheduling its patients: to ensure that the dentist can quickly see all patients in a timely manner. It also needs to do a better job of communicating and apologizing for delays. Cramming a lot of patients in simultaneously makes more money, but it makes for a poor client experience. Hoping that my subsequent visits in 2020 are better! read more

I went to Dr. Nam's office for years until they stopped accepting my dental insurance. I saw Dr. Amy Blake there, and really liked her as my dentist. She and the dental assistants did a great job cleaning my teeth, communicating what I needed done, not pushing for me to get unnecessary fillings done, etc. The only issue is the office is a bit more expensive than other dentists in the area for fillings, crowns, etc., and they're more limited on what dental insurance they accept. read more

Update May 10th 2019: Although I don't live in California anymore, I was contacted from someone that dental office sent me a check. I received the check and saw that it was from Daniel Nam Dental office. They sent me a letter and apologized for bad experience. I was actually taken aback that they would go this far to make things right. Although my experience was not a pleasant one, it really showed that they try to better their customer service and show that they care. My impression has quite changed from their response to the review. It was quite unexpected. Hence bumping from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

This is a double review for both Dr. Name and Dr. Blake, they both get 5 stars! My first visit was with Dr. Nam pre-Covid, he is super nice and professional. X-rays, exam, cleaning all in 1 day, even filed down one of my chipped tooth for me on the house. That is great service! My second visit was post-Covid with Dr. Blake, I had to replace an old cracked silver filling with a composite. I remember the last time I had to replace an old silver filling, it was kind of scary and painful. That was not the same experience this time. Dr. Blake was very gentle and thorough. You know how I know? Because I don't even remember it happening, I fell asleep during the procedure, that's how good she was. Let me tell you, this was no small silver filling, it is probably one of the biggest fillings I have on my lower molars. When I woke up, she was all done. But what separates her from the rest is attention to detail, she even flossed between the teeth to make sure there was no jagged edges on my new filling (New fillings would always catch or break floss if it was not smoothed out properly). I'm a patient for life now, tears of joy is coming down as I write this. You know how hard it is to find great dentists? Look no further, you've found em. Peace! read more

Thursday, January 27, 2022 was my first time ever visiting Dr.Nan's office. The professionalism began with the initial phone, call on up to Dr. Nan whom I found to be very, very sweet but professional at the same time . My favorite part of my visit was when I said to doc after his introduction ("tell me about you"). Right before my eyes, Dr. Nam began rattling off the top of his head his life from damn near beginning to current. I became quite impressed. Basing on all those good reviews, I decided to see dr Nam for filling and teeth clean. But it is so disappointing. First time experience: 10:30 am: leave home 10:45: arrived at the place for a filling. 10:45 am -12:30 pm: get an x-ray done in 10min and waiting. assistance kept coming saying sorry for the long wait, Dr. Nam will be here later. I said ok cause I feel that doctor need to have lunch and also I don't want my treatment to be done in a rush 12:30 pm: finally Dr.Nam is here, shake hands, give me some anesthetic, put me wait another 15min, doctor gone 12:35 pm - 12:50pm: waiting 12:50 pm - 1 pm: Dr.Nam work on the filling, shake hands and left Wow! how wonderful experience it is. over 2h to get a filing done? If you can not handle that amount of patients then schedule less appointment have some buffer and ensure the quality, ok? your time is precious, but patients' time is not valuable? Even filling experience is not good, I think maybe I can give it another try for just cleaning. this time they did improve, they call ahead saying please please arrive 30min later cause doctor won't be ready. But cleaning experience is somehow bad. His assistants did the polishing before cleaning, maybe because Dr.Nam is busy again. I don't know if the sequence is correct or not, but at least from my past experience, polishing is the last step of clean. Except the long unreasonable waiting, I think the service I receive is average, Dr. Nam is not informative, he just does the work and leaves, no suggestion and leave the patient worried and suffering from the pain of filing. read more

I dreamed a relationship with my dental doctor would be like a long time family contract or union. You bring your kids to dental doctor and kids will go through their dental thing and they grow. Grown your kids now visit the same doctor for implant or something else as an adult. I think this place will be like that. For this dream comes true, you need followings. - Skilled doctor(s) - Skilled steps - Clear payment process - Reasonable dental process (not taking too many x-rays) Well, I've written couple of positive review for this dentistry. They are human and nice human. They are super good and skilled. Because they have lot of patients and they made them satisfied. I pulled out my 2 wisdom teeth, and I got 1 implant. They were done perfect and these teeth are under general check up schedule. I managed my payment with this dental office perfectly, and I didn't need to deal with insurance company at all. The two doctors, nahm and amy are like my old friend and they are so professional yet super good people. I can't find a reason why I don't go this dental office and not suggesting to someone i care. Reasons why I go to Dr Nam... Dr Nam used to be with Embarcadero Dental but moved locations to Post St. I've been going to him since 2006. He is only in SF once a week on Thursdays. -Friendly staff -I was misdiagnosed at one medical (which is easily accessible but mediocre health service provider) for a canker sore in my inner lower lip, but it turned out it was a obstructed salivary gland. Dr. Nam rearranged his schedule and booked me right away for quick surgery to remove it. -My sister was told previously that she needed to get deep gum cleaning, she went to Dr. Nam and he told her she didn't need them and that brushing and flossing will solve her problems (which it did). -He has worked with me when my dental insurance changed and he was no longer in my network. -He always takes the time to answer all my questions. I tend to ask a lot of questions and can be time consuming but he is always with a smile and answers all of them with patience. -He always helps me with my night guard and make sure I have new ones to replace them when worn out. -Dr Nam is organized. In over 10 years of going to him twice a year, I can't remember one bad experience. If anything, he has saved my sister and I a ton of money being a honest dentist. read more

I found Dr Nam when my dentist sold his practice and I wanted to switch. The sign up process was pretty quick through texting with his office. I was in a lot of pain with my wisdom tooth gum flap having moved, causing me to be unable to chew on my left side. Dr Nam's office scheduled me asap and when they found out I had a week-old newborn at home, they immediately prioritized me during my visit, saw me, cut them gum flap and sent me on my way. They were so so accommodating and empathetic to my schedule (more like my son's schedule) and I appreciated how they took care of me with so much ease and gentleness. Daniel Nam, his assistants, office staff, and hygienists are incredible. Not only are they extremely kind, welcoming, and enthusiastic about your health - but they are skilled professionals. I recently received one of the most thorough yet gentle cleanings I've ever had. The hygienist was talking through her procedures every step of the way. Daniel Nam has a great bedside manner. He's very knowledgeable about his field and active in his community. He asked me if I was happy with the spacing in my teeth and talked me through possible procedures to correct it. The next week, we performed a frenulum muscle removal to keep my front two teeth from separating. He used a laser device and the procedure took no more than 5 minutes. It was kinda gross... but I walked out feeling as good as new. All in all, I highly recommend this office if you're looking for a new dentist. After two visits, I can tell Daniel has a passion for high quality dental work and he is VERY experienced. Not only does he work in two offices, I think he also volunteers, AND he is also a professor. He cares a lot about bringing quality dental care to people at a reasonable price. Prices are steep but fair. They have a 1-year dental payment plan where you get two exams for the price of one. You get what you pay for because everyone in this office knows exactly what they're doing. read more

I first came to see Dr. Nam on the recommendation of graduate school classmates (a number of them gave enthusiastic reviews). His practice is very generous toward UC Berkeley students, because even though I don't think he officially takes the UC SHIP student dental insurance, I was able to see him without having to pay anything. On top of that, he saw that my retainer was breaking and offered to make me a new one for free because I am a student. Dr. Nam and his hygienists (I've seen Kane and Taylor) are experienced, thorough, caring, and make you feel like family (they always remember that I am in school and ask how things are going). They also do a remarkable job of telling the patient what they are about to do, so no surprises, and patients know what is happening during the cleaning. Another great thing is that they never try to sell me anything - which is awesome, compared to some dentists who will try to sell you other services. Erin, the front-desk manager is knowledgable about everything to do with insurance, and it was easy to communicate with her over email about some insurance and scheduling concerns (I am a big fan of email). The staff all communicate with one another seamlessly, and as a result, the patient care is efficient and thoughtful. The Oakland office is brand new and very nice and clean. There's free parking in front of the building (and they are building out a small lot in the back too). In San Francisco, I think the Dr. and the same staff as in Oakland work a few days a month, so once I begin working in San Francisco after graduation, I might see them in their SF office too. Overall, I think it's hard to find a skilled but also caring dentist without getting word of mouth referrals, so I'm thankful that my classmates referred me to Dr. Nam. read more

LOVE DR NAM AND HIS CREW. Smart and vigilant, they are prompt and accommodating making even the worst dentist experience bearable. Dr. Nam and his team also do extensive volunteer work and dental clinics in the Berkeley area, often seeing patients who are homeless or providing the elderly with their first cleanings ever. They have done a dental brigade to Central America to provide dental services to youth in communities that lack even clean water. Super great folks. read more

I don't have (good) dental insurance, and Dr. Nam offered me a plan where I pay $200 for 2 visits and includes 4 x-rays as well as reduced prices on all future procedures. It's a tremendous deal, and I get access to a top notch dentist and his team! If you live in the east bay & you're looking for a new dentist, look no further. Dr. Nam & his staff are warm, personable, down-to-earth, genuine folks. I found his office to be clean and comfortable - well-appointed and without ostentation. His staff manages to balance professionalism with honest personality. Dr. Nam's chair-side manner was among the best I've ever experienced. I have excellent teeth, structurally, but I'm always battling stains along my gum-lines due to near incessant tea drinking and my gums have receded mildly in several areas - which is exactly where the stains tend to build up. Those are some really sensitive areas to clean. Dr. Nam was empathetic and carefully observant of my experience while he was cleaning my teeth, yet he still managed to do an excellent job in much less time than I'd expected. It's rare to find an entire team of people who all truly enjoy what they do, but this is one of those places. I went to see Daniel Nam a few years ago at Embarcadero Dentistry and have since seen a few other dentists, so I can compare what everyone had to say about my gum recession. Dr. Nam wanted me to see a specialist and likely have a lot of expensive work done. The other dentists I've seen have said that if I continue to take care of my teeth and gums well that my recession is totally manageable and there is no need to have expensive work done. In the three years since I saw Dr. Nam, my recession has not worsened. I've learned how to brush and floss more effectively using the right tools from other dentists that took the time to help me help myself. Other than that, I had a great experience with Dr. Nam, but don't go to Embarcadero Dentistry - that office is very expensive relative to other dentists (it's downtown SF, what do you expect really?) read more

So its been a bit too long since I went to the Dentist. So for that reason I didn't want to face it, so I put it off even longer. By the time I made it to Dr. Nam I had some cavities and was beyond overdue for a teeth cleaning. Cavities I dread!!!! But with Dr. Nam, he made going to the dentist bearable. My first visit I got a teeth cleaning and x-rays. I was very comfortable, the staff was super nice, no one shamed me for it being so long for my teeth cleaning, and I even walked away with some flossing tips. The next visit was fixing my cavities. The part I find most terrifying is getting numbed up. Dr. Nam made it pretty painless. He fixed up my cavities with that awesome sounding drill (I think someone should invent a silent drill). And I was done in no time. All in all, I have a new outlook on going to the dentist. Its not that bad!!! This man is a dental NINJA! In an out of your mouth without a trace of pain! I had an injured tooth that started to darken from the inside. I dropped by Dr. Nam's Oakland office (nice place with a relaxing view out the window from the chair) and he was in and out in no time. I had a root canal previously by another dentist where I was able to feel EVERY bit of nerve tissue as it was scraped out of me. Dr. Nam got to work and before I knew it, he was done. I didn't feel a single thing, and wasn't even sure if he had started cleaning out the nerve tissue. 5 STARS for sure! He even bleached the tooth internally and now it's back to looking human! (If only he does plastic surgery - I'd be all set) The guy is a pleasure to work with, great chair side manner as others have said, and is a consummate professional. His staff is skilled and very friendly. I always feel comfortable going in, and for once in my life I dont dread going to the Dentist. This man does great work, check him out - seriously. Dr. Nam and his staff are amazing! I've been seeing Dr. Nam since 2013 and at every 6 month cleaning visit he's always recommended for me to extract my wisdom teeth. I've always kindly dismissed his recommendation because the thought of surgery freaks me out... Until the day I woke up in excruciating pain and it was all coming from my wisdom tooth! Should've listened to the Doctor! So I called the office and was able to get an appointment the same day. Right away, I was on the gas and he numbed the area to get me out of pain. Before I knew it, the procedure was over. I was so excited to be out of pain I even went out for a celebratory lunch afterwards. Dr. Nam and his staff are the best of the best! read more
