We have used Williard's Chantilly for years. The food is perfect as are the sides and sauces. Ribs are lean and tender without a lot of sauce. The pulled pork is tender and flavorful. My wife loves the chicken. It's cooked perfectly with a slightly smoky taste. The meat is moist and not dry from being over cooked. We ordered a family meal for 4 and ended up with enough food for 2 days. My wife is also a corn bread fanatic and loves Williard's corn bread. If you like BBQ, this is the place to go. read more

Decided to get lunch with a group of 13 for lunch. When we arrived I was one of the last ones in line. About a minute later I watch a guy throw his trash in the bin and proceed to get in line 2 people ahead of me. My Yelp mentor called him out and he explained he wanted a refill and to order a second meal. I spoke loud enough for him to hear me but he didn't care. If I wasn't working, I would've made a scene. Despite this beginning, I was hungry and ready to eat. I was thrilled to see KC Burnt Ends on the menu. I live a short distance from KC and visit the city for work and pleasure a few times a year so I know how good KC burnt ends are. I ordered the sandwich with a side of beans and cornbread. The guy at the counter seemed a bit annoyed but it's lunch rush so I let that go. When I filled my sauce cups up, I filled one with Sweet BBQ, one with XXHot sauce and the last with Hot BBQ. They seemed watery but I figured the taste would make up for the consistency. The place was packed but the food was made super quick, I was really impressed. The KC Burnt ends we're not KC Burnt ends. The were soggy and a bit greasy. I'm probably a harsher critic than most, but I asked 3 other guys who ordered the platters and they all said the same thing. It was almost the consistency of pulled pork. There were no real Burnt ends in it. The flavor was average. One guy said the flavor was great. The size of the sandwich and the amount of meat you were served was impressive. This place does a great job with portion sizes. The beans were ok, I wasn't a big fan and the cornbread was average. The sauces were all watery and not to my liking. There was nothing spicy about the XXHot sauce. The Bathroom. Bathrooms are my extra contribution to Yelp. This one was Average at best. The decor had the potential to be really cool, but it wasn't that clean. I'll give them this, it was really busy and I'm sure the bathrooms usually aren't that dirty. But this one had some weird leaking stain on the base of the toilet and there was napkins and paper towels overflowing out of the trash. They had decent Scott's toilet paper, so that's nice. The light fixture inside was cool. Overall I'd give this place a 3 1/2 but Yelp doesn't give half star options so a 3 is my vote. I'll most likely try this place again and revise my rating, but this was my first impression. read more

Came in with another around 45 mins before they close. Good brisket. Tender but it needed a little more smoke flavor. The burnt ends were good though drenched in sauce. Corn bread was a bit stale though this could be the end of day. Coleslaw had good texture but lacked flavor. Mac was just ok. Overall the place was fine outside the slight issues. When I moved here I asked people for bbq recommendations. Willard's was probably the most often recommended. Always skeptical, I was unsure I wanted to drive all the way to Chantilly but when added to a home to a nearby state park, it made sense. Most of the area has been built up with new strip malls but I appreciated the historic yellow Willard's truck out front. It did feel more business-like than the smoker and pitmaster local vibe I expected. I kept rolling though and ordered my typical combo platter, what they call a "trio platter" with three meats, two sides and a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket (no additional charge), ribs (spare, 4 or 5), and pulled pork. It was a lot of food and if we weren't hiking afterwards I would ha e wrapped some for later. My friend chose sausage and I definitely had meat envy. Another friend's chicken looked good also. My brisket was good as was the pulled pork. The ribs were great - if I were judging they would be an 8! Perfect bite mark left and good flavor. I went with Mac and cheese as my first side which is baked the homestyle way and sweet potatoes which was a special side. I'd recommend any of the items! Note I didn't taste the cornbread. They also serve alcohol and I appreciated a cold beer on a hot day. Also a variety of sauces to try based on your flavor preference. I'd go back to Willard's for bbq, even without something else on the agenda in the Va area. I still have one favorite above them but this is definitely solid and my #2 in the DMV! read more

I had the "Texas Teaser" (Brisket, Sausage, and Pulled spork with 2 sides for $11.99) and it was really good. I was surprised at the portion sizes because they were generous, you'd never get 3 meats and 2 sides for $11.99 in Memphis. The sides were very tasty too (mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans). I'm from Memphis so i'm a bit of a BBQ connoisseur so my rating dropped one star for the watery BBQ sauces. At 7pm on a Wednesday... This place reminds me of Dickeys back west. It's a chain bbq that was prob good at one time but has lost its way. The chicken I had was a little dry on the breast but moist and tender otherwise. The flavor was underwhelming and the meal would have been disappointing if not for the 6 different sauces. Come here if you need some sort of a bbq fix, but dont expect greatness. Try the sauces, it makes everything a little better. 3 stars. I hate to leave a review on one visit but I don't know when I will ever be back in this area. The restaurant was really nice and the service was really fast, especially during a busy lunch hour. I heard the smoked meatloaf was good but the service was going so fast I did not see it on the menu (extensive menu) and I panicked and went for my favorite, the burnt ends. I was really disappointed in the burnt ends. They were not burnt ends, it was shredded brisket. How can you call yourself a real BBQ restaurant and not serve the right burnt ends. However the sides were big portions. Most BBQ joints have small sides, but this place at least gives you a lot of food for your money's worth. The mashed potatoes and coleslaw were really good. Nice decor, especially in the bathroom. It's also really nice the bathroom is covered behind a well decorated glass wall in the corner of the restaurant. HIGHLY OVERRATED! I work in the area and heard so many people bragging about how great this place was, so I went for an early dinner one Saturday. I ordered the Brisket and Chicken platter and had Mac n Cheese and baked beans. I also had the sweet potato pie. I order and sat down expecting to wait a bit for my meal to be prepared, well I got it in less than 2 minutes BUT, all the meat was cold, I almost would have liked them to put it the microwave it was that cold. The mac n cheese was decent, and the baked beans were a few days old. The sweet potato pie was obviously "store brought" but it was such low quality I couldnt finish it. First time ever here. Randomly stopped by to get some food with my friends who recommended it. Alright... I probably shouldn't be the one to write a review for a bbq spot, only because I'm not a fan! Don't get me wrong brisket is awesome but was never into ribs and sweet sauce aka bbq. So I got the open hot brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes, subbed out the green beans for "black eyed corn" which ended up being a mixture of corn and pinto beans I believe? Hate beans. So got a side of potato salad instead. Ok, one thing I must say about their potato salad -- IT WAS AMAZING!! My friend told me it was about to change the game, and he was right. The sandwich was open-face meaning one bun only on the bottom so you can't pick it up like a regular one. The hot bbq sauce was my favorite. I love a spicy kick in anything. Side note, the food came out on these black old-school looking trays and thought the presentation overall could've been better. They should use those red and white checkered liners cause I feel it'd go well with the theme. Anyways, good service on the potato salad. They just gave it to me. I got pulled chicken with potato salad and Mac. The mac was the only thing I liked, with a little salt and pepper. The potato salad was too earthy for my liking. The worst part was the chicken and I was really looking forward to it so I was bummed; it had an awful flavor - I felt like I was eating a propane tank or chemicals of some kind! BBQ sauce didn't even put a dent in it. I don't know if they used liquid smoke or what but I could barely eat a quarter of it. Horrible. I ordered food from Foodsby so I can enjoy at work. I ordered duo platter of pork and shredded chicken w/green beans and regular beans. 1st impression-Package was covered in sauce & dirty from outside when it was delivered. Food came in styrofoam container which was melted on the bottom and ALL THE FOOD TASTED LIKE STYROFOAM. It had that plastic aftertaste we all know & completely ruined the contents of the entire meal. I tried to eat it because I was really hungry, but everything was honestly bad. The beans were too sweet & the green beans were clearly canned. Chicken was subpar-clearly not good cuts of chicken as it was all dark meat with "mushy & guey" chunks of chewy fat in it. If you like quality ingredients, taste & experience-honestly McDonal's would have been an upgrade. I'm entirely put off this place uses cheap styrofoam containers that seeped it's plastic taste into the food. And for $20 the least you can do is purchase fresh green beans-they're not that expensive. I ended up not being able to stomach all the plastic-ey tasting food. Good stuff. Had this place bookmarked forever but kept reading mixed reviews about it, so I was a bit hesitant to try it out. A friend of ours told us how much he enjoys their bbq and so we finally decided to give it a try. Glad we did! They have a nice variety of bbq items on their menu. There is plenty of seating inside, including counter seats. Place your order with the cashier and then wait for your number. Cashiers are friendly and quick. Seat yourself. Everything is within reach, bbq sauces, napkins, wet naps, plastic silverware, drinks. I like the laid back feel of this place. Tried a couple of things and they were all very tasty. I wouldn't say this is the best bbq out there or the best I've ever tasted, but it was still quite good. I did enjoy the Texas Sliced Beef Brisket more so than their Ribs. The Ribs were slightly tough. I am especially grateful because this place is in my neck of the woods. Chantilly could always use more good eats. It can get a bit pricey but they are generous with the portions. I had plenty of leftovers for days. I wouldn't drive from afar to visit Willard's but if you're in the area and in the mood for bbq, definitely give this place a try. read more

I expected to be impressed with this place and while my brisket was quite enjoyable (especially by DC standards), everything else isn't at the level of the brisket. The location is in a massive shopping center so parking can be a pain, though at least you can always find a spot. The dining area is very small, about the size of your average Chipotle and you order at the counter then go back to the counter to pick up your food. This means if they're crowded you may not be able to get a table so be forewarned and pay attention to if any tables are empty when you're in line to order. As for the food, the brisket is lean, moist, tender, and has the smoky flavor you're looking for. I usually prefer a mustard based BBQ sauce but theirs has an odd onion flavor that I didn't prefer so I'd recommend their hot BBQ sauce. As for the sides, the baked beans were okay with sort of a tomato flavor but I added a little of the hot BBQ sauce to perk them up a little. The red beans and rice were also tasty but nothing special. Note they don't seem to have fries or fried okra as side options here so plan accordingly. Sadly, I must report the sweet tea might have been the worst I have ever tried at any BBQ restaurant. It wasn't the powdered stuff but it had this awful quasi-lemon taste and was so foul I had to switch it out for a Diet Coke after a few sips. Good iced tea should be a given at a BBQ place and Willard's was an epic fail on that front. While the brisket was tasty, I can't say Williard's is worth the drive from Arlington/DC. I'd consider trying it again if I were in the area but I'd be sure to avoid the tea next time. read more

Three and a half stars. I ordered with my nose and my body hates me for backsliding. The week prior, I had walked out of the post office a few hours after Willard's had closed and was struck by the enrapturing scents of hickory smoked meat. My diet smelled divine intervention from two blocks away on a still night! My expectations were low when I swung by to pick up some nosh on the way to the auto shop. Casual cheesy decor, plenty of seating in booth/table/window format. Half a dozen customers in on a chilly evening, with most of the noise coming from the staff. When my platters get handed to me within minutes, I figure the food's been sitting out way too long. Then again, it's hard to argue with mounds of food. Fortunately, this was only true with a few items. Hot open-faced beef brisket sandwich came with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and cornbread. Canned too-soft green beans were saved from a bland existence by diced bits of once-crisp meat stirred in. Beef brisket wasn't trimmed too lean, but definitely dry enough to be tough in most pieces. Slice of bread beneath it disintegrated in the face of the pan gravy. The latter was just as average as the mashed potatoes. My corner heel of cornbread was portioned generously and protected in a shell of aluminum foil. Decently moist and fed me across three meals. I asked the mamacita at the register what her favorite menu item was, and gladly ordered the North Carolina pulled pork sandwich as a result. I picked potato salad and dirty rice as my two sides. Mustardy red skin potato salad with chopped celery and some light seasoning, meh. I usually hate dirty rice, but this was probably the second best version I've ever had... still not good enough for a repeat performance though. (You know Asians and our rice, we're picky.) Now let me tell you, these sandwich rolls are PLUSH. Mouthful of clouds, that's some goshdarn bread. How it didn't disintegrate in the face of the moist pulled pork, I don't know. Pulled pork was a solid thumbs up, I'd smile if driven to order it again. 2015 update: Phenomenally tender ribs, not much cartilage. Forgot our gravy, sauces were okay. Wasn't a huge fan of the burnt ends, and the jerk chicken was only marginally more interesting than the regular BBQ chicken. Pickle slices are okay, coleslaw's generic. Mashed potatoes are whipped a little too smooth, but the smoked sausage is actually decent. Worth trekking out from the city? Naw. A decent option if you prowl that area on the regular? Sure. I can say I've only experienced true southern style BBQ, and it wasn't at Willard's. The pulled pork sandwich wasn't bad but wasn't the ellusive pulled pork I once had down in Mississippi. What I like about this place is that it's affordable. You grab your food and sit down fast food style. The ribs were good, but the sides could use some work. I heard about this place from some coworkers - and I was craving some barbecue ribs, so I got an order to go. I ordered a full slab of the St. Louis style ribs - basically cooked without any sauce on them (sauce was on the side - I opted for the hot sauce). I also ordered the Kansas City Burnt Ends, and sides of Collard Greens, Black Eyed Corn, and Potato Salad. The ribs were the best part! They were succulent! I poured a bit of the hot BBQ sauce over them and chowed down. The Burnt Ends were very good too. The Collard Greens were okay (I am not a huge fan of these cooked in the traditional way - they usually require my adding salt, garlic, and hot sauce to make them palatable). I will have to try some of their other BBQ offerings next time I am in the mood for good BBQ! read more

Been coming here for a couple of years and I have to say this place is a hit or miss. I usually get the NC pulled pork sandwich but today I tried the pulled chicken sandwich for the first time. Even pouring bbq sauce all over the pulled chicken, it still tasted dry and flavorless. Maybe it's just their chicken because the pulled pork is usually pretty good. I ate about 2 bites and couldn't eat it anymore, it was that big of a disappointment. The sides though are pretty good - mash potatoes with brown gravy, potato salad, mac n cheese and coleslaw are all pretty good. Don't ask for fries because they don't have any here!! The prices are affordable, you can get a very generous size sandwich with 2 sides and drink for $9. Though it's not the best bbq, it's fast and cheap. They just need to work on their meat a little bit, not so dry and they can use some salt and pepper. read more

This place is in Chantilly or someplace close to Chantilly. It doesn't have a ton of parking since it's in a shopping center but we were lucky to find a place close by. It's a good bbq place with lots of choices and combinations. It's one of those places where you order and then pick up when the call you number. The ambiance of the place is real "down home" bbq. That's when I saw the bottom of the container. Moral of story...be careful when unpacking their food. Juding by the amount of positive reviews, I obviously came on a horribly off night. The worst part about writing a negative review about a restaurant is if it's mainly about the food. Not temperature of the food or quality of service. The food itself is tough to fix if it's bad. And tonight, it was bad. My husband also got the sweet tea which we both tried a sip of and he dumped immediately for plain ol' ginger ale. The sweet tea tasted like the tea had steeped for way too long and fake sugar (like artificial sweetener) was used. The potato salad was overwhelmingly boring. It tasted like grocery store potato salad. Just plain and underwhelming. The cornbread tasted a bit old, but we came later in the day. The macaroni and cheese was the most disappointing. I love macaroni and cheese. This was soggy and tasteless. Because we got a larger container of it, I brought the leftovers home. I plan to jazz it up with some flavorful cheese, melted butter, and breadcrumbs. It's so mild as it is. I don't think good cheese was used maybe. The service was fine. You order at the counter, go pick it up, then sit down to eat. The guy ringing us up was kind. It was just a really bland meal. The fish I got was super fishy tasting and rubbery. It came with a beautiful-looking crispy crust then I took a bite, and it was rubbery and blah. I don't think we'll be back. It was definitely a busy place when we arrived. The line does go quick however. The food selection was plentiful and what I ended up getting was very good. The pulled pork sandwich was a typical pulled pork sandwich and was on a good fresh bun. The side sauces were not utilized as it was good plain.
