The pizza is pretty average and the prices are pretty high, but I think the actual restaurant is beautiful and the service is fairly good. Like I mentioned earlier, we were there after our Varsity match. Despite the chaos, they managed to serve us food in an orderly and amiable manner (and indeed everyone was being quite rowdy, so major props). I wouldn't necessarily recommend it or go out of my way to come back, but I am impressed with their ability to handle large parties. Definitely keep this place in mind if you're looking for a place to host a fairly sizeable group of people!

Disappointing service, ok food. Hate to be writing such a poor review after finding a great menu (+…read morekids'). I ordered bruschetta to start, baby bolognese for our toddler, prawn pasta for myself and chicken & roasted pepper for my wife. I specifically requested the kids food to come "as soon as [possible]". The bruschetta came very quickly and was delicious. However, we then waited an exorbitant amount of time for any other food to arrive. This was a huge problem because our toddler was completely running out of patience; I ran up and down the river with her and maxed out her interest in drawing with crayons; we took turns, but were at the end of our wicket. Frustratingly we saw table after table get served before us whilst I couldn't even make eye contact with my original server. Forget my hunger--how long can it take to make a little bolognese?? Eventually I caught a young blonde server (Maddy) who was very nice and got the ball rolling. The kids food finally came out, but our original server with a beard made no attempt to apologise. Later, when the adult food eventually came out, it was about the quality of what I can do at home. The restaurant has a nice position, but there is much better off and on the river. Fine if you want bruschetta and wine before a punt; otherwise, don't go.

We started off with the Spinach Arancini; perfectly baked rice balls with a blend of spinach and cheese. The Caponata and the Crudo were both home runs, as the spices melded beautifully with the toppings on each.

What an odd place. It is a knock off of an American-Italian restaurant that originally knocked off…read moreItalian restaurants. I was out looking for dinner and stumbled upon this place. I was so befuddled that I had to go in and take a look. They have red & checked table cloths and Frank Sinatra, et al. are playing on the stereo. Why not just have an Italian restaurant and skip the whole watered-down-by-Americans routine? Anyway, I was snapped back to reality when the bartender said, 'ello, what'll ya 'ave to drink". Oh, yeah, I am in Cambridge, UK. On to the food. One night I ordered steak, it was pretty bad, but typical for the UK...tough and overcooked. That said, the rest of the meal ended up being pretty good, and the service was prompt and efficient. Stick to the basics and you will have yourself a decent meal.

If you are into Italian dishes but want a bit of American touch then you might want to make Frankie…read moreand Benny's your next stop for a meal out. The story about the restaurant is as fascinating as the meals they serve. Frankie was a child of an Italian immigrant in the 1920s, he grew up in his father's restaurant cooking and serving their favourite traditional meal. After his father's retirement, Frankie became friends with Benny an American, they took over the restaurant and combined their dishes, which today make up the Frankie & Benny's menu. awww. what a happy ending. Anyway, my experience there was also a happy one. The food I ate there just had an attitude most restaurant lack, maybe it is because of its combination of Italian and American taste. The separate bar area had lovely drinks, which I managed to prevent myself from having too much as I still had my meal to eat. I ordered my food after I took my seat at the eating area. Even though the restaurant was quite full, my food arrived under 10-12mins. For the appetiser, I had Bruschetta and the main meal was their oven baked chicken parmigana, which is chicken breast, coated in garlic sauce, topped with ham, melted mozzarella and served on Neapolitan spaghetti. The taste was superb, the chicken breast was succulent and the spaghetti with roasted red peppers was truly tasty. I had a cup of espresso (£1.40 single) after the massive meal as I had no place to fit dessert. The second best thing about this restaurant apart from the food is their child-friendly environment. If you have child/children who are very active and prevent you from eating, this restaurant has good ways of keeping your children busy i.e. puzzle, colouring and even family interactive games, it is truly a family affair. They also provide vegetarian option, sea food and other unusual menu you will expect to find in an American style restaurant. The bill was about £16 for a two-course meal, I have to admit that it is not the cheapest of places to go, but the servings are large and environment is just right for family outing.

I don't expect much from an Italian restaurant in Cambridge…read more I know it'll be somewhat pricey and probably not too poppin' on a freezing winter night in the middle of December. However, I was thoroughly disappointed on my decision to enter these doors instead of those of the many other restaurants on this street. They seem like they have plenty of seating, two stories of them, so perhaps it would get full on a much more popular night, but the weekend night I went on only had a few parties on the first floor. I thought that not a lot of customers meant it would be fairly fast service. Oh bollocks was I wrong. I thought I couldn't go wrong with the carbonara since I wanted something heavy. The waitress, however, seemed like our table was the last place on earth that she wanted to be at. The scowl and impatience on her face and attitude when we were deciding what to order could not be more prominent. I ordered and decided to find the loo. I had to trudge up a narrow set up stairs and find the tiniest bathroom ever on the second floor. I don't understand why they can't have a set of bathrooms on the first floor. The food arrived a good 45 minutes later. Really. I was already nodding off by the time the food arrived. I have never had such slow service. I don't think this attributes to the care that the chef took in making the food rather the lack of service or manpower. The carbonara was alright. Portion size was just right--didn't seem like much but its a pretty filling dish. It was fairly simple and I'm glad it tasted fine after waiting that long. Maybe this would be a good place to take on a date if you want to get to know their life story.

The Food, it was pretty mediocre, I've popped some photos on, I think they rely on foot traffic. My friends pasta was bland, I had a look around at the pizzas and the base looked quite thick and airy. I followed on looking at the photo of a calzone on yelp, mine did not look like the one from a few years ago (see my photo) not full, dough texture was verging on pasty style pastry. I saw the deserts on another table, looked like a 90s banana split. Poor Service - 1. they turned one group away because they didn't want food, and then proceeded 10 minutes later to seat new customers in the same area for just drinks. 2. They served others before us, when we had been waiting for ages. 3. I asked them to come back later while i was eating as I probably could be convinced to order wine. We didn't see them until we waited and waited until the bill didn't arrive, and they they said it was on the scrap bit of paper they'd left when our food arrived. Just a bit bland really, on all counts except the view.
