Fun atmosphere but food was disappointing. We ordered appetizers and 40 minutes later we were informed the order was lost and we would be comped. We ordered a large tomato pie and shrimp grits. We weren't in a hurry so we weren't terribly upset at the wait. However the grits were not edible and the tomato pie was a one person serving with very little tomato. Mostly cheese. The hummingbird cake and carrot cake were wonderful. Recommend for dessert but didn't have a chance to truly experience the food. Location and artwork was rustic and fun. BTW... Wow! Dined here on a Sunday afternoon. Was very pleased with everything! Had to wait about 40 minutes to be seated, buy it was well worth the wait. Service was a little slow, but they were packed! Our server was a little flighty as well, but she was nice. We each enjoyed our meals, and thr desserts were wonderful, especially the chess pie and the carrot cake! The place has a nice ambiance but it gets old fast. I saw a Greek Salad on the menu which really sounded good, even said had kalamata Olives which is a must for Greek Salads. The salad tasted ok, but was full of tasteless black olives, not even one kalamata which irritated me. In addition, on the menu it stated that all large salads come with bread, when I asked about my bread the waitress said it would cost 1$ extra. LOL. The only thing that was really good there were the sweet potato rolls yummo! But they didn't make them there, they are purchased frozen, but really good! I found this place over priced for what you get, do yourself a favor and drive 15 miles down to Fort Payne as you have several choice restaurants there. read more

On 9 July 21, my father, step-mother, and daughter visited the Wildflower Cafe for our lunch meal and really enjoyed ourselves. The hamburgers were fantastic and the Chicken Salad Wrap was everything I could hope for. The portions were large and worth the price. Don't get me started on the desserts :-) We split two pieces of peanut butter pie between the four of us and it was heavenly! My daughter and i are visiting from VA and will make this a requested stop each time we are in town now. read more

What a treat it was to discover this amazing restaurant nestled in the mountains. When we arrived we didn't have reservations (highly recommended), but the friendly staff found us a table. I always enjoy coming here. I really like the decor...I think the old school bus seats may be my favorite part. I started with a salad. Very good, a little small. Turns out that the salad being on the small size was a good thing as the Prime Rib was massive. Oh that Prime Rib...cooked to perfection...tender...juicy...amazing outer crust. You will find an occasional clove of garlic or sprig of rosemary when cuttting into this masterpiece. I can't recall the sides. I think green beans were the special that night? Obviously the star of the show was that PR! The Derby Pie put the whole meal over the top. The only negative I have about this place is the roaming guitar player. A lot of people really seemed to enjoy him, so I can't drop this review to 4 stars. The Wildflower Cafe is out of familiar territory, but certainly worth the trip. It's not just a place to enjoy a meal...it is a fine dining experience. Unbelievably good! Wow, i came here with my wife & 8 other fried s to celebrate a birthday and every single person was raving about the food. So so so good. We all shared bites of all the different thing we had, and it all surpassed expectations. I got the loaded tomato pie with bacon added, which is a winner. My wife got a medium-rare black-n-blue prime rib, which was genuinely the best prime fib either of us has ever eaten. My friend got a rare filet and he could not stop raving about how this was the best piece of meat he's ever had in his life. We all drove here from Rome Georgia, it was about an hour and a half drive to her here and we will 100% be coming back here in the near future! read more

We ordered the kids the chicken tender meal, my husband ordered one of the sandwiches, and I ordered the large piece of tomato pie. The kids chicken tender meal was excellent. Love that it they bread them with gluten-free. We didn't need that, but they were still tasty. The tomato pie was ok. I expected more since it's known as their speciality. The sandwich and chips were tasty and it was plenty of food for us. We didn't save room for dessert this time--but I remember how good it was before! We'll be back Wildflower. My wife and I drove 1.5 hours from middle Tennessee to dine here for her birthday with a few friends. The restaurant has a charming rustic appearance set back in the trees. Our reservation was at 5pm and we were promptly seated. I couldn't say enough about our waitress she was very attentive and helpful with the menu and meal choices. After ordering we were entertained be a gentleman playing guitar and singing. My wife had an excellent prime rib and I had smothered chicken which was also very good. The Wildflower Cafe is a eclectic, quirky, little restaurant that is located in the heart of Mentone, Alabama. My wife and I spent a couple of days in the area and we were told that this was a "must do" while visiting. We were definitely not disappointed. We absolutely loved the place. The restaurant is appropriately set in a wooden mountain style building with a very artsy interior decor. We were told to make reservations because it can get crowded on certain nights. So we made reservations for 7:00 on a Thursday night and we were promptly seated. Our waiter was right on point and he was very helpful with answering our questions and making dining suggestions. We brought our own bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. The place does not serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own and they will provide the glasses for you. I ordered the Prime Rib and it was cooked to perfection and it tasted delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies were a perfect compliment to the meal. My wife selected the Filet and it was also fantastic. Even though we had more food than we could eat, we decided to split a dessert. We chose the peanut butter pie and it was unbelievable. Had our first visit to wildflower cafe today after many many recommendations. To say I, as well as the rest of my party, were underwhelmed is an understatement. The service was good. Our waitress was very sweet and was great with our children (outside of taking my husbands plate as he was still very clearly eating off of it); However, the food was terrible. Everything was cold and undercooked in the center. Nothing had flavor. We had a variety of dishes and the only thing that was palpable was one of our children's hamburgers and the salad was enjoyed by all. Everything else tasted like water and like it came from the frozen food section of your local grocery store. The atmosphere was nice and they had a fantastic vocalist to sing while everyone ate. Other than that, it was absolutely terrible. To top it all off, it was 100 bucks for an appetizer, salmon dish, scampi dish, and a grilled cheese. They added a 20% gratuity without telling any of us which we did not see posted anywhere on the website or menus. Maybe we just went on a bad night, but my family will not be back. read more

These reviews can't be real!!! We were excited to go here because of the hyped reviews. We were seated, the people were nice. I ordered salmon, the menu claims it's the best, my wife a filet. I can get over the over the paper plates and plastic cups, but....... My salmon was hardly cooked, the second bite was cold, not cold like room temperature, but cold like it had been in the refrigerator, I picked through it and found the center was completely raw, my vegetables were cold as well, under cooked. My wife's filet was maybe average. When the bill came I asked my wife "are we being punked or something"?. $113.00. I wouldn't mind paying that, had it been decent. This is the first time I've ever left a review for anything. Just save your money, total fake hype, like I said it can't be real. $67.00 bucks for a filet? It better be holy grail good!!! We went to Mentone for the Rhododendron Festival. I grew up on Sand Mountain, and used to visit Mentone frequently with my Mom. I heard about the Wildflower Cafe, and have always wanted to go. I'm glad we had reservations, because they were very busy! It didn't take us long to be seated, when our reservation time came, and the food and service definitely did not disappoint! The Wildflower is such a quaint establishment, all of the staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and the food is phenomenal!!! The Tomato Pie was fantastic, and the Filet Mignon was better than any I've ever had at any of the chain steakhouses! The entertainment was a delightful older gentleman, who went from table to table, playing his guitar, and encouraging everyone to join in on the singing. He came to our table and played TV theme songs, and encouraged us to guess what they were. It was a lot of fun! The food, service and entertainment are well worth the drive from Birmingham! I have been here for brunch, lunch several times, and dinner a couple times, and I am very pleased with the entire experience. It is very eclectic, and extremely representative of this artsy, woodsy, touristy area. This restaurant caters to the large artist/eco-activist/local eccentric community that describes this area. You will find rocket scientists (retired from Huntsville and other programs) sitting and talking to the next table of 4th generation-Mentonians, talking with the newest artist to move to the area and join the MAAC (Mentone Area Arts Council). And all will be enjoying Chef Ben's creative and flavorful offerings. The prices may seem a bit high for the area, but the food is well-prepared, consistent, and fresh. Add to this, LC Moon (his wife?), who is an herbologist and Hostess at Wildflower and sells some of her products as well as art items from local artists of all genres, and there is never a dull moment. We stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon as we passed through North Alabama. We were drawn here by the restaurant's listing in the "100 Alabama Foods to Try" (I think it's called) brochure we picked up at an Alabama rest stop. When we walked in, we were seated fairly promptly even though they were busy, and I loved both the darling, funky atmosphere and the menu (which was full of sandwiches, wraps, desserts that just looked awesome). Our drink and food orders were taken promptly, but then the wait began. Honestly, we must have waited nearly an HOUR for two wraps/chips plates, a TINY, TINY plate of the "famous" tomato pie (which I think must have been slapped on the plate and heated in the microwave), and a piece of carrot cake. Despite signage at the front that said "we cook our food; it takes time" (or something to that effect), we thought this was an outrageous amount of time to wait for this amount of simple-to-fix food. Since we were passing through town on the way back to NC, this was especially inconvenient and threw off our whole travel schedule pretty badly. Add this to the fact that our server was not much in evidence during all this waiting--and never came by to update us or otherwise acknowledge that she knew it was taking a long time--and we were really quite dissatisfied. We probably should have complained on the way out, but contrary to our usual practice, we didn't--I think partly because we wanted so much to like the place. I did short the tip. Other comments: the menu listing for the "medium" tomato pie I thought I was ordering did not make it clear that this was some "appetizer" portion -- it was truly shockingly small, and I thought the server might have alerted me to that when I ordered it. I had the grilled buffalo ranch chicken wrap with kettle chips. It was probably the best wrap I've ever had. The atmosphere and decoration is not something you would typically see in your standard over-commercialized restaurants in the city. This is something different (in a good way). They had live music going when we went for lunch. Almost everyone in the restaurant was singing along. I would go back.
