We had the burrata, shrimp cocktail, and oysters to start and shared the Australian Wagu, asparagus, and hash browns. (Honestly I could have done without the hash browns but that's a personal preference the flavor was still a 10/10). We finished off the meal with an ice cream sundae and cheesecake and if you get a desert you HAVE to try the sundae... their banana ice cream is unmatched. The service here is exceptional. I had been wanting to try Wilder's for a while after hearing so many great things, so when my friend took me here for my birthday I was beyond excited. The moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt both glamorous and welcoming, with dim lighting, gorgeous décor, and the vibe that makes you feel like you're celebrating something special. In the summer, they open the windows to the street, which brings in a nice fresh-air energy. We were welcomed with a choice of milk bread or olive sourdough, served warm with butter. We then ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell and the Caesar salad. Both were very fresh and flavorful, and a great start to dinner. For mains, we ordered the 8oz Filet Mignon and the 12oz Wagyu New York Strip. Both were perfectly cooked, but the Wagyu New York Strip was just out of this world. Every bite was melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with flavor. For sides, we ordered the potato purée, French fries, and the Rigatoni Gratin. Each side was excellent and paired perfectly with the steaks. Service was outstanding as well. Our server was Heidi, and we were really happy with everything she recommended. Had dinner at Wilder's and really enjoyed it. The calamari was flavorful and crispy, and the porterhouse was the highlight--cooked perfectly and super juicy. They brought out bread at the beginning, and you even get to pick the kind you want, which was a fun little touch. Service was great--really attentive and thoughtful. They even brought out a dessert to celebrate my parents' anniversary, which was so sweet and made the night feel extra special. This is by far the best new steakhouse in metro Detroit imo. Been to them all at this point and it's shocking how low quality my experiences have been. That being said, wilders was a pleasant surprise. The interior is gorgeous, the service is perfect for the style of dining and the food was all delicious. We got the wedge which I loved bc it was properly dressed and super flavorful, the oysters were delicious and fresh. We split a steak and the carrots as well as the rigatoni gratin. We were in heaven haha. Steak high quality and cooked perfect. The rigatoni gratin was addictive and the carrots were a fun twist. We also tried their vesper martini which was perfect! This was one of the best meals/ experiences I've had in a long time from the food to the staff ! Our server James was excellent! He went above and beyond even gave me a glass of milk with my dessert ( via my odd request). Mark was also great he made sure our night was special. The king crab was fresh and I like the fact that that I was able to get it steam instead of chilled the steak was great quality and tasted even better ... the zip sauce was by far some of the best I've had. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a hunt club feel that is warm and cozy I had the strip steak and my wife the prime rib. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. Beef tartare app and chop salad were also stellar. The hash brown side was just OK. However, this restaurant is very pricey. Just a word to those who are planning to go. Feb 11, 2025 Tried Wilder's, having waited longer than usual - we like trying new dining establishments, and have enjoyed the other restaurants in the group to which this one belongs. For the most part, our experience was a positive one. First of all, and best of all - the service. Our server was warm, efficient, and attentive. We benefited from her professionalism, and it added greatly to the experience. Next, the ambiance. The dining space is not terribly large (13 tables), but the tables are well laid-out, and in general very comfy. Lighting was on the low side, but not so dark as to interfere with our ability to read the menu (a pet peeve - glad they avoided this pitfall). And most important, the food. I ordered the French onion soup, while the co-diner got the house salad. The soup was first-rate, and the salad was - as requested - lightly dressed. Rolls were also provided - rosemary milk, made in house. For entrees, we both got the short ribs. Meat was tender, and very tasty. The main course was accompanied by whipped potatoes - quite nice. We also ordered the truffled carrots - excellent. We each got a glass of red wine (one Cabernet, one Pinot noir), and were quite pleased with them. The problem with the main course came when the servers (one male, one female) brought small pitchers of Jus, and then proceeded to empty the entire contents over the short ribs, resulting in drowning the meat, rather than complimenting it. To make matters worse, the taste of the sauce did not enhance the meat, which was quite flavorful on its own. We ended up requesting an extra plate, and spooning as much of the jus as possible onto it. Not the result we were looking for. Coffee was French press - quite nice. For dessert, we ordered a lemon tart to share. This was not exactly what we anticipated. The crust - made from ground almonds - was very nice. The filling consisted of some type of lemon flavored creamy mousse, with 4 spherical orbs of meringue. Not terrible, but not great. If the chocolate cake did not contain peanut butter, I think we would have gotten that instead, and would have preferred it. The diners at the next table over got the New York strip, and raved about the quality of the meat. Something to consider on a future visit. All in all, our first time at Wilder's was generally favorable, with a few missteps. read more

This was our second time at Wilder's for dinner. Our first time, in Feb, was amazing. First rate server, very knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and friendly. It was obvious she knew food and service. Our dinner and drinks were spectacular, as was the dessert. The aesthetic and design of Wilder's is stunning, a return to the understated elegance and clubby atmosphere of a downtown haunt. Sexy. We wanted to come back. And we did in April. Our server seemed rattled and distracted. He was a nice enough guy, but as the evening went on, his attention seemed to hone in on 3 tables with larger parties than the four of us. Apparently we became invisible. Our finished plates sat, and sat, and sat... After finally getting cleared, we sat some more. Dessert was offered, we enjoyed the menu, decided to split two between us, and sat. When he finally came by and asked if we had found something we liked, we had to ask for our check. One of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've had in a long time. The waitstaff was so overbearing it was impossible to relax and enjoy the afternoon. They were constantly hovering, asking us if we needed anything when our drinks weren't close to being finished, looking to clear unfinished plates of food and interrupting our conversation. They told us we needed to be finished in 30 minutes for dinner service. We said no problem. Then they hounded us for the next 30 minutes to finish and pay. Caesar was fresh and the French onion was good but heavy on the pepper. Our entree was a little disappointing. We ordered an 18 oz ribeye. We know some of those oz would be made up of fat and bone, but we got MAYBE 8 oz of actual meat. It was seasoned well but left us bummed that we paid over $100 to not be full from the main entree. The charred broccolini was really good and the rigatoni gratin was just ok.. nothing like Mac and cheese to me which is what the server described it as. Overcrowded and Too Noisy I had high hopes for wilder's restaurant to be different than what you see in Birmingham places such as market/shift/ 220 Merrill / but the experience was disappointing. The place is small making the noise level of people sitting next to you unbearable. Guests were talking so loudly that I could barely hear my boyfriend sitting across from me or even hearing what our server was saying to us. My boyfriend decided to sit next to me so we can just hear each other better. We asked our server to switch our table around and she said that her manager wouldn't want to do that for us and to just " make it work". The restaurant seemed overbooked, with tables crammed too close together, making it feel more chaotic than enjoyable. We decided to leave after our first drink and the only thing they offered us to make the experience better is a free drink! The atmosphere made it impossible to relax and enjoy anything. On top of all that, it was my boyfriend's birthday and we wanted to enjoy our time. If you prefer a quieter dining experience, this may not be the best choice. A really mixed bag. The ambience is top notch. The place is beautifully designed. The architect who did it, did a marvelous job. The service was wonderful. Our waitress Heidi was knowledgeable and accommodating. The prices are mixed. Some of the prices were reasonable and some were not. The steaks are more than any of the great steak houses in town. Examples: bone in rib eye $105. Porterhouse for 2,$185. Strip steak $99, all steak only. The king crab at $ 135 for 1/2 pound is excessive. On the other hand, the entrees were reasonable, chicken and braised short ribs,and salmon reasonable, as were the oysters, and Rockefeller, Tartar both beef and tuna all expensive but reasonable. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. There were good things, great things and good things that needed a little help. The beef tartare needed salt, pepper and more capers. They were happy to oblige. The onion soup was delicious but needed a good deal more cheese, which they provided with a smile. The Dover soul was swimming in butter, but very good regardless, even if a bit pricey at $78. The hash browns were an A but I would recommend they put the sour cream on the side so as not to take away the crispness. The restaurant just opened, so one must give them sometime to get things perfect. They had a lot of gluten free items that usually are not in most restaurants. The very good crab cakes are made with gluten free bread crumbs, the Dover sole with rice flour, they provided waffle fries for the tartare. All in all a good experience, but they need more time to get things perfect. Make reservations, it's new and somewhat small, so reservations are a must. read more

The ambiance is great, sexy, old school and cozy. The service is very good. The deserts are fresh and delicious, big shout out on the banana ice cream. They make a great Manhattan and have large, clear ice cubes. The food has potential but falls short on several dishes. The Dover sole is brought to your table swimming in butter. No citrus, no real brown butter taste, just a pool of oily butter and no service such as preparing table side. I love Dover sole so order it often. This Dover sole ranks at the bottom. To improve this dish, bring the fish with the butter on the side and offer to pour it. This will add a little service which you should have at that price point and let the patron choose the level of sauce they want and add citrus or white wine to ur butter sauce and emulsify it or at least serve with some lemon slices on the side. The way it's currently served the fish continues to soak up that oily butter and becomes so greasy it's inedible. The carrots are delicious but that dish is carrots and pearl onions and is also drowning in oily butter. It doesn't need to have a 1/2 inch of butter in the serving vessel. The hash brown is crispy and has a good flavor but again it's a grease bomb and you can't eat much without feeling gross. My husband enjoys the filet and he is picky so that must be solid. The potato purée is salty and the tuna tartare is not good. The tuna was not chopped evenly, the presentation is not appealing and the olive oil is not needed and gives this dish an unpleasant, slimy texture. This dish is begging for citrus. The beef tartare is good. So overall, great spot for drinks and atmosphere but if you're a foodie maybe wait till they work out some of the flaws in their dishes. read more
