Hoffman catered our wedding on 10/17/21 at Dulany's Overlook in Frederick, MD. Now that my wife and…read moreI are back from honeymoon and can reflect upon what happened....here goes. Prior to our wedding we worked with Adrienne who was a pleasure. She was very helpful and accessible. Quick to respond to our questions/emails and was very kind during our tasting. Adrienne gets a 5/5 for everything. Unfortunately we were assigned to a representative named Jacob for the evening and not Adrienne. Hoffman's arrived on time which is good. Had we not noticed them setting up, we would have not known they were there. Nobody greeted us or let us know they were on site. First impression of Hoffman was during Yichud. The food was was supposed to be hot wasn't. The sushi was very good. No wasabi. There also were no utensils/napkins. The empanadas and spring rolls were greasy so a napkin would have been useful. Glad there was a bathroom next door. You could also tell these hors d'oeuvres came straight out of a box, frozen, probably from Sysco. Did not get a house made vibe at all with the hors d'oeuvres. Next came our cocktail hour where the majority of our guests did seem to be enjoying the hors d'oeuvres. Maybe because they were fresher (perhaps they sat for a while in Yichud before we got to them?). Or maybe being a chef myself, I can be over critical sometimes. That being said, I know what to expect and when you spend as much as Hoffman charges, you expect a certain level of prestige. We did not get that. Moving forward. The bar service was good. The drinks seemed to be mixed well but I cannot stress this enough. YOUR BARTENDERS NEED TO SMILE. All evening long, not one bartender looked as if they were happy serving our party. They looked annoyed, unfriendly, and shot me (the groom) a dirty look when I asked for our signature drink x3 for myself and 2 guests I was standing there talking to. Unacceptable. First course. Soup and salad. The salad was...fine. Nothing really special. The soup (flavorful yes) was barely warm. And the tortilla strips that garnished the top were halfway sunken and soggy. EVERY guest I spoke to in hindsight said theirs we're ICE COLD. Soup should be served "just under boiling". Unacceptable. Dinner didn't win us over either. We were talked into a buffet style service as opposed to a plated dinner. I regret our decision to do so. The buffet food evidently was not hot, the line took forever. And we were told that the caterer manager did not want to work with any other vendor to ensure a smooth dinner service. Tables were not called by the DJ because of this and it was a giant chaotic rush to the buffet table. By having a buffet over a plated dinner, it felt less classy. This was something the caterer pushed very hard for as if a plated dinner was an impossibility. We felt forced into a buffet and it's our biggest regret. The chicken was terrible. Covered in a soggy breading that wasn't supposed to be there. The veggies were fine, the rice was fine. The pastrami was FIRE!!!! 10/10. Great job on the pastrami. That was very tasty. At the end of the day it comes down to more than just really good pastrami and Adrienne's amazing attention. But Jacob, our manager on site the day of. Not at all. We were told by our wedding coordinator he refused to work with anybody. Smug, unfriendly, and pompous, he didn't seem to give a damn. He did ask us halfway during our evening how things were. I'm not gonna complain in the moment at my own wedding. I was also rather drunk and merry. So yeah I played it off and thanked him and Hoffman in general. This was also before hearing what many of our guests had to say about the food in retrospect. A very poor representation of what we thought would be an A+ experience. Lastly, Hoffman's staff threw out my wife's flower bouquet at the end of the evening while cleaning up. These were meant to stay on the table overnight until we pick them up the following morning. When asked about this Jacob responded with "why don't you just buy a new bouquet". Jacob can kiss my ass and Hoffman won't be hearing from us again. Thanks

We've used Class Act Catering by Jim Britton twice. Both times the food was outstanding; however,…read morewe had a horrible customer experience on 10/14/2023 that obliterates any possible positive rating. Last Saturday 10/14/2023 we were hosting a 3pm event at our home. I signed and returned the contract to Class Act on 10/10/2023 for a 1pm pick-up on 10/14/2023. My husband went to Class Act at 9631 Liberty Road to get our food at 1:15pm. When he first arrived, he saw employees walking by, but no one offered to help him, no one acknowledged his presence for a couple of minutes (strike one). When he finally caught the attention of an employee and explained why he was there, the employee went to check on our order and argued that the pick-up time was 2pm, not 1pm (strike 2). My husband told him he was wrong. The argumentative employee finally asked my husband if he had paperwork. Prepared, my husband showed him the contract which really angered the employee. The employee was unprofessional (strike 3) and now my husband is hot. The unapologetic employee finally loaded the food in my husband's truck and my husband left. My husband returns home fussing and promising to never have any future dealings with Class Act. He's almost done unloading the items when I hear him yell from the kitchen. I went to the garage to see about the commotion. He dropped half of the sweet and sour meatballs in the driveway, because he burned his hand. Unbeknownst to him, someone put a lit sterno (chafing fuel can) in his vehicle. I can't use enough adjectives to express how angry he was at that moment. I called Class Act Catering by Jim Britton at 1:54pm last Saturday to report what just occurred (an employee placed a lit chafing fuel can in our vehicle), but no one answered. Someone needed to know what just occurred, so my daughter and I drove to Class Act to return a dish that we didn't order and to report the incident. {(FYI... I had to omit a lot of this story; it exceeded the maximum character length for leaving a rating, but I spoke to Jim Britton's brother in-law last Saturday before our event.)} Disappointingly, I did not hear from Class Act by Jim Britton on Monday (10/16/2023) or Tuesday (10/17/2023), so I called at 10:04 a.m. on Wednesday (10/18/2023) and the phone went to their answering service even though they opened at 9:30am. (Strange!) I left a message with my name and number asking for Mr. Jim Britton to return my call. I never received a call on Wednesday, so I called before business hours (at 8am) on Thursday (10/19/2023) and left another message- still no response from Class Act. You probably guessed - no response on Friday (10/20/2023) either. My husband noticed burn marks in the back of the truck today when he was cleaning it (10/21/2023). There is damage to the rear carpet and door. As I reviewed my credit card statement today, I noticed that CLASS ACT CATERING by JIM BRITTON OVERCHARGED ME. My signed contract and confirmation email say one price, but they billed my credit card a higher price (yes more than the contracted price). I get the privilege to pay even more money for: 1) last year's damaged stovetop that they ignored 2) rude argumentative employees 3) an INSULTING CONDESCENDING brother in-law 4) a burnt hand 5) half of a dish (half the meatballs were dropped) 6) a lit item that damaged our vehicle 7) no follow-up phone call, no doing right by the customer, no attempt to fix the problem, no prioritization, no empathy! It looks like Jimmy Britton has arrived. As his brother in-law told me... "it's not about the money... this here, we can do 50 times over!" after exclaiming that Mr. Britton's business was built on EXCELLENT customer service and always giving more than expected. We definitely did not expect what they gave us. They've had two opportunities to do right by us, and they haven't done so yet. For this reason and because I cannot give zero stars, I gave a rating of 1 star. The food is excellent, but at what cost?

On the center table... Spanish influenced, Mediterranean Paella, salad, and brownies from Zannino Catering. What a great night of catered food and fervent discussion both about the food and our duty in our community. The Mediterranean paella, with some long grain orzo, had a fairly good texture when you ate it straight away ..but obviously over time it soaks up too much liquid and heat and overcooks ..that's catering for you..can't complain. The flavor wasn't exploding, which is fine. Seasoned well, Flavored well with chunks of chicken, slices of sausage (chorizo?), actual big shrimp, large peas, other veggies like huge artichoke hearts. None of it was overcooked. The shrimp especially was nicely cooked, everyone was obviously trying to steal the most. Salad, was a nice accompaniment but just a normal salad with your choice of dressings. Brownie desserts, some purely chocolate, some with a berry swirl, some with a creamcheese swirl. I had to swipe a few while people weren't looking (You know how you can't just pig out at an official meeting like this..) Very rich desserts. I'm a sucker for sweets. Some nice strawberries garnished around the platter. Check the website for pricing, The head of our group paid for this, so I can't speak abotu the price ...but everything seems reasonably priced.
