We had a honey bee hive way up at the top of a tree in our front yard. Spencer came out to look at the task I hand. He informed me that it was a dangerous job and would require more than a simple job with just a ladder. He looked into renting a boom lift. It just was too expensive for us. We had a little hiccup with the treatment that was suppose to be done at our home. We were told that the wood being replaced would also have a preventative treatment added. When the workers were done they informed me they don't do that process(even though I got charge for it and was in our contract). Called the office for clarification and Brooke assured me that they do not do that process. So I asked her the breakdown of my contract and what I was being charged for. She then realized that it was part of my project and lied about it already being done. (Even though the workers told me they did NOT treat the new wood). James came out today to check on some wood flooring that had been eaten by termites - I had it tented last year but a company that I won't name but let's just say it was a negative experience. So I wasn't sure if they ever checked on the termites situation in my crawl space (are they subterranean?). He went under the house and checked if the damage was needed repair, confirmed they were drywood and they were indeed gone. Which was a relief for me. Called about subterranean termites. I would give them 5 stars, the estimate was scheduled within days of calling, the work was completed within days of the estimate, and the subterranean termites are gone. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is that they drilled between the tongue and groove of the wood planks in my floor which resulted in damage to 8 planks for the four holes drilled. I knew four holes would be drilled but why on the seams where the planks were tongue and groove? Needless damage to the floor in my estimate. It is impossible to patch. They were on time every day, cleaned up the work site every day (swept the driveway, put the tools in a neat manner etc), and were polite and nice to have around. I had a potential change after the crew left the second day, I called Don to discuss it and he said to talk to the crew in the morning and if they didn't give me an answer that worked to call him back. Wow, Best contractor and craftsmen I've hired in a very long time. The estimator "Lucky" was thorough in his assessment/estimate of what I initially hired Best Rate to accomplish. I had rotten fascia boards and rafter tails that needed replacing. I then added another minor remodeling job that included, electrical, insulation, paneling/painting and some minor concrete repair. All phases of both jobs were completed on time and to my total satisfaction. They showed up early everyday ready to work. The replacement boards were nice redwood that they treated, primed, and top coated before installation. They are all that and a bag of chips. Donny, Alex, Mark and Lorenzo did fantastic work for us. We have had many companies come check our house, truly Nolan (not a good experience, had to get a refund after damage was found after) and one other that was good, (Pestmasters), but expensive and not very comprehensive. Best Rate checked everything, found a problem and proved it to us and fixed it for the lowest estimate we could get. Check their website, we recommend them highly. Best Rate cannot be beat. In my opinion, they are the best in the business. First, the "above and beyond:" When I confided in the wonderful office manager, Katie, that the reason I kept delaying the termite tenting was because I was scared that I would lose my cat when we had to evacuate for the tenting, she got her super colleague, Jordana, to find motels that accepted pets. Jordana sent me a list of 8 or 10 places near my neighborhood, complete with details, addresses, and phone numbers. (Who does that?) That's customer service beyond what I could ever ask for. In addition, because the house was under construction, the first inspector recommended that I wait until the construction was done to do the tenting. However, Best Rate did the necessary repairs right away. Again, above and beyond. They had to replace a couple of siding boards on the garage. I asked if I could keep the extra siding to make another repair. They not only gave me the left over siding, but installed it AND painted it. (Who does that?) Long story short, the contractor working on the construction abandoned the job and I had to find and hire someone else to finish it. This meant that Best Rate had to come out 2 more times to adjust their estimate (once, for the post-construction footprint and the second time, to include an added deck). There was no charge for the additional estimates. By now, I'm asking myself, "Am I in a small town where people take care of each other, or am I in the big city of San Diego?" (I'm in San Diego.) Frank, who came out to do the final estimate, walked me through the basics of what my job would be to get ready, which was really helpful because it gave me a head start on some of the work (moving rocks away from the outside walls, packing up food items). The tenting was scheduled quickly once I was ready. Frank came BACK AGAIN the next week and explained what I had to do in much detail and gave me checklists to follow. I had more questions just before the tenting and Jordana was always, always available to answer my questions no matter how specific they were. I felt like I had an ally in the adventure. The fumigation company was also terrific. I met them on the day the tent was to go on the house and they walked the property with me, making sure everything was ready. They were very careful with my outdoor landscaping and plants, and I noticed after I got back in the house, that they also bagged up some items I had forgotten, AND they raked the rocks back to the outside walls. They cleaned up whatever evidence there might have been that a tenting had taken place: the property looked great. Frank came back out to collect the payment a few days later and I could hardly wait to give it to him. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Best Rate from beginning to end. I highly recommend them as THE company to do business with. I wouldn't use anyone else. (And PS, the cat loved her vacation at the Blue Heron Cottages in Ocean Beach.) read more
