I'm a damn good shot! Today was the first day I've even seen a handgun up close let alone fired one. It was a little tricky to find exactly where to go to find the place. I followed the entrance sign but apparently it's between the two sets of doors. There's a bendy green hallway...sort of a green mile...that leads to the gun shop where they sell rifles, handguns, ammo and accessories. I approached the counter and told the woman I was interested in trying out the firing range. She produced a release form to read and sign, which I did, then asked what I'd like to use for a gun. I had no clue. I told her I was a firearm virgin so she suggested the 9mm handgun. I selected my target sheet, paid, then went and put on the hearing protection. One of the range agents opened the door to the range and showed me a bench where I could put my stuff. We approached the chutes. There were a couple guys and a chick in the stalls beside me. I'd never even heard a gunshot at close range and was a bit startled the first couple times. It didn't help that the other woman was shrieking since the shell casings from her neighbour's gun were flying in her direction. Nothing dangerous, it just freaked her out. So, I approached chute 6 where my pistol du jour was waiting. The attendant went over the main safety rules and showed me how to load and properly hold the weapon. I had to get him to repeat a few things because some hot shot down the line was firing off a Glock every time the guy opened his mouth to tell me the rules. It took me forever to load it but I was stubbornly determined to fill the first round myself. I got a little flustered when I was concentrating on loading bullets and chiquita next to me fired her first shot and shrieked. You'd almost think she'd shot herself but of course she didn't. Finally, all loaded and locked, I raised the firearm and took aim. It was a very different experience than any I'd had. It was totally exhilarating and I had a brief moment of "wow, I actually did it!" I wasn't used to the recoil and had to make a conscious effort not to clench my jaw because when I did, my hearing protection didn't do its job. After the first couple shots I felt comfortable and focused more on hitting spots on the target. I even selected an intentional groin shot for that poor, unsuspecting cactus cowboy. Good to know I could hit it if I wanted to. I took home my target, counted the bullet holes and determined that every single shot hit the page. Not bad for a virgin. I got one dead center of the largest target and, of course, the crotch shot I was so proud of. I felt a lot more powerful walking through the mall the rest of the day. Good times. I'd definitely go back and try a different gun. read more

First time to the range and had such a great experience. Lucked out and there was no line up! The front desk staff were super friendly and got us signed up immediately. The range staff were relaxed and amazing. They were quick and thorough with the 9mm pistol instruction. They asked if I had shot before ( which I have). They guy watched and then gave me tips on how to get closer to the bullseye. Really appreciated that! If you're in the mood for something exciting and different, the Wild West shooting range is definitely worth checking out. It's located in Phase IV of West Ed, near the Fantasy Land Hotel. I'm not into guns and stuff, but this was something I always wanted to try just once. I signed up for a single class through campus rec when I was attending the University of Alberta, and managed to get a student discount. I went with my boyfriend, and this was actually our first date. I recommend the range for other first-daters; it's a great way to break the ice, because you're both totally out of your element. They round you up in a small group of people and go through the rules and basics with you. Once you're ready, ear-protectors and all, you get to try a range of their different firearms, from handguns to rifles. It also depends on how much you paid, and you get a certain amount of shots for each one. I don't remember the difference really, just that the rifle was super-heavy on my shoulder, and I felt like I was about to collapse under its weight! You basically aim at these heavy-weight paper targets they post on the opposite wall. When I was there, the targets were aliens. I felt like Will Smith in Men in Black. The range officers stand behind you the whole time, to guide you if you need help. I think I made my instructor a bit nervous though, when I kept lowering my gun and unintentionally pointing it at his feet ... oops ... Overall it's a great experience; the range offers a new kind of thrill if you've never tried this sort of thing before. I'm not sure I agree with their policies here however. They call themselves a family shooting centre, so basically they barely have any age restrictions. A young kid can try shooting a handgun if they want. I don't think that's such a hot idea. It's a safe and controlled environment, but I think it should be one reserved strictly for responsible adults, not young children. read more

Worst customer service I've ever dealt with from a gun store. Usually the customer service from a gun store is extremely helpful and professional but not in this case. I made an order online and received no confirmation email or anything following my purchase. After I emailed them, I was only sent the tracking number and no confirmation email. Then later after waiting a bit, I saw that the order was sent back to the store and Canada Post told me that the sender didn't put down my proper address. After reaching out to Wild West, they told me to either pay for shipping again or to pay a restocking fee (more than what shipping costs) in order to receive a partial refund. Their own mistake forced me to pay shipping twice and they didn't seem to care whatsoever. Will never shop here again, I've never been so disappointed. read more

This is a really cool place in West Edmonton Mall. Obviously it is a shooting range, and even if you aren't into Guns or firing them it's a good experience just going in to look at the different Guns they have all over the place and even watching other people shoot them. The way it works if you want to shoot a gun is you just walk in, sign a release form and pick a gun. They send an attendant with you into the shooting stalls and they explain to you the basic safety rules and how to load your gun, then you just shoot away. It's nothing like in the movies, your whole body feels it. It's something different to try in the city. Worth checking out. read more

When you walk in to the front area you can see racks of rifles and display cases full of hand guns. However once you let them know you are there for the range, you step over to the side and select whatever caliber you want from their "Range Collection." They recently started offering package pricing which makes it a lot easier to shoot a few different types of guns. My wife an I went with a package that was $60 and we shot three guns of various calibres. The staff on the range was really nice. He'd been coaching for a while you could tell because he new when to step in to help. Overall the feeling was very friendly and safe without that "over-controlled" feeling you get at some other ranges. This was an "Attraction" and although professional shooters or competitive shooters might pick out things they would do different. For my wife as a first timer and myself just looking for something fun to do this was the BEST. read more

Located on the upper level of West Edmonton Mall, the entrance looks older than the rest of the mall. I went with a friend who enjoys hunting and was here from out of town. We explored the mall and were looking for something different to try, other than the usual Galaxyland and Sea Lion show. It seemed expensive $36 per person plus ammo. Walking into the shooting range it is quite basic, there are racks for hearing and eye protection and you sort yourself out with that gear. Then you just walk through the two security doors into the range. I'd say for a first timer this place might not be the best, I didn't feel like I was guided as much as I thought I needed. It was an interesting experience but it's just not for me. If you are sensitive to the noise, you'll feel a bit overwhelmed and disorientated by it. I certainly was. It was a new experience for me but probably won't go again. Not because of Wild West, just because shooting isn't for me. read more

We wanted to take my sister in law, her husband, and my mother in law shooting while in Canada. The prices were a bit high for the range fee, and they didnt have any gun rentals for Shotguns or AR-15. We were informed that it was because of the space. We ended up renting a .22 Ruger, 9mm Glock, .44 Smith & Wesson 629, and a .44 Ruger Super Redhawk. We were provided with ear plugs, ear muffs, and safety glasses. They have a bottle of alcohol and napkins so you can clean the safety gear before you use it. The staff were all very helpful and informative when teaching my mother and sister in law to shoot. They all shot really well and better than I did. They also had a lot of fun! read more

I attempted to purchase a mares leg chiappa but mistake the 9" as non restricted. When the mistake was cought they refused to refund fully. since I only had a PAL not a RPAL I could not legally buy the gun but they still charged me 25% for restalking a gun I can't own. I returned to the shooting range a few months ago for my bachelor party and was not as impressed as my previous visit. Because there was a large group behind us (so large that they required every single spot on the range), the range masters rushed our group as quickly as they could -- so much so that one of them decided that I was too slow at loading my clip and started loading it for me (which I didn't want, but he just sort of did it, without even asking). I understand that they didn't want to make the large group wait too long, but rushing us off the line as quickly as they could (while still ensuring that everything was done safely, of course) made our experience a little bit less enjoyable than it otherwise would have been. Providing good service to one group of customers should not come at the expense of other customers, hence the lower rating this time around. read more

I am a member at Wild West. I have been about 10 times so far and I think that it is a fine range. Prices are a little high, but I am used to shooting at ranges in the US. Guns are a little dirty at times, but if you don't like the one you are firing, they will usually allow you to change guns if there is another available. It is a very busy range, and sometimes you have to wait in line for a while. Staff are very friendly and helpful for the most part, which is good for first time shooters. It is a basic range, pistol caliber only, with about 10 or so lanes. read more

Very disappointed. Being a Gun store inside a mall you would think they would be more accomodating for folks who look/appear rather inexperienced, matter of fact they have a banner that states theyre beginner friendly and all that! Not the impression I got. From the moment I walked in the clerks all just shot glances towards me and then went on about their business. I stood by the display racks waiting to get some help but it never came. They didn't even give me any form of acknowledgement that they noticed I came in before a different pair of customers, or that they would get to me after they finish with customers they were preoccupied with. But the latter shouldnt have been any case because they had about 10 clerks working behind the stands and only about half of them were occupied. I'm an avid shooter and gun shopper so I know when I say the other 5 clerks were just hanging around. TL:DR -Workers will not acknowledge that you entered their store and will not offer you their services. -They probably discriminate customers based on appearance because in pretty sure thats what happened to me. I'm dressed hip(going to the mall), not like how people dress up when they suit up for casual range time. read more

I didn't know what to expect to I was dragged to Wild West Shooting Range. I had never held a gun or even seen a real up close. And I certainly didn't feel any urge to shoot one! Nevertheless, I went. I have to admit that it was quite a lot of fun! I was definitely grateful to have one of the attendants go over every single detail of everything with me because I was a little nervous and scared to start off. But he helped ease my nerves. And before you knew it . . . BANG! I was shooting! It's a different experience and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't done it and is looking for something new and exciting to try. read more

Went here the other night for the first time..was my first time firing a gun at all! Was interesting to say the least. The place was, what it was a shooting range and not much else. I enjoyed the shooting, and I liked the fact that there were trained professionals there to help and show you everything. Although, I kinda wish there was more safety features, the guns were in opened drawers etc.. It was slightly on the grubby side as well, really needs updating. But like I said I can't really compare it to anything else! It was also extremely expensive considering how cheep bullets are!.. $50 each is in my opinion way to much. read more

Wow, this place is cool! Coming from Ontario i was really suprised to see a range run this way. They just hand you a handgun? No licence or p.a.l required. pretty sweet deal. I have been twice now, and had a great time. It is quite pricey, but worth doing at least once. The less commonly used guns seem to be in better shape and more accurate. The desert eagle was pretty worn out, and is only in .357 mag. No matter what you may have heard, they dont have the .50 cal. Like i had been told by several guys that said they had used there. The .40 colt i used was pretty warn out as well, however was still able to put up some killer groupings. The ruger super blackhawk in .44 mag was in beautiful shape and fired flawlessly. the sights were bang on, putting 6 rounds in a 1.25" grouping with 4 shots in the same hole. Some of the best shooting i have ever done! The .45 long colt fired great as well, a classic cowboy gun for sure. All in all it was a great time. Although i was quite concerned to see two 8 yr old boys holding a gun, while the instructor was in the next booth with mom. I am thinking a munimum age of 12 might be better?? read more

To begin with, very rude front counter staff. The young Asian girl sat on her high horse/chair looking at me like I am there for panhandling, and said "watch your friend shooting through the window if you don't want to pay the admission fees". Nothing less nothing more. No space for what I had to say. Paid money and was asked to follow the staff. He went through two doors and we followed him. Once we passed through the doors, he turned around and told us "you cant come through this door, its only for staff". Jeez my bad , thanks for the instructions given earlier. Went to the range and staff is like where is the ear and eye protection for which I replied I dont know, I wasn't told about where I can find those. Then I was directed back to the staging area and was told to take ear and eye protection. Attitude at its finest. Should have given me instruction before hand. To be honest the range officer was friendly and helpful but I was too pissed to enjoy the rest of the evening. What a waste of time. Until the front counter staff changes their attitude, I wont be returning to that place. read more

I've been here twice. Both times have been okay. The first time I went I received a hard-up sell by one of the female staff. I haven't shot much and I just wanted to shoot with .22LR. The lady behind the counter (owner? owner's wife? She's always there) suggested several times I should shoot 9mm. She gave me no reason, she just wanted to make more money. I stuck to my guns and went with the .22. I found this really surprising at a gun range. Anyway, the lady was the unpleasant part. The shooting was great and the range officer was a nice guy, obviously very experienced and confident. The second time i went I had to ask for service, but at least there was no attempted upsell. The shooting again was fun but the range officer was horrible. i don't know if he was new but he was very unfriendly, didn't say much, and offered no tips. I was with a friend and her gun was constantly jamming but this guy was very slow to help her. He didn't offer to get a new gun until about the 10th jam - no exaggeration. I don't know if he was new - he wasn't wearing a uniform and wasn't carrying a gun himself unlike the other officers - but he really made a fun experience into just a so-so experience. You really have to take your chances here and if you haven't shot much, the range officer you get really makes a big difference. read more

This is one of the worst gun shops I have ever visited. The service is terrible and they are so disorganized. It shows when you wait for so long to be helped. The price you pay to fire handguns that have not been maintained properly is a complete ripoff. And the prices they have for the product in the store is a joke. $60 bucks for an AR magazine? Give me a break. It may give some noobs who don't know any better a thrill but no serious gun owner would show their face in this store. read more
