Again! Again! That was a blast! I am a horrible shot, but we all had so much fun! Great group event for ages from 4-104! Some of the regulars gave us pointers... thank goodness as I wasn't having a lot of luck. Ok, luck is subjective! I hit other peoples' targets 1 and 2 lanes over. Yes, I'm shaking my head too. With an hour or so of practice, I got better. Hit the paper target too-my OWN! I took the advice in Carley's post for first-timers about wearing a long-sleeved shirt. Good advice. No injuries were sustained, but I was a bit stiff the next day. Definitely, posture made a difference in my shot, and figuring out how to not get your bust caught in the bow. :-D Robin Hood I am not, but for my first time, pretty successful. I understand there are bows for kids available to rent, and the youngest they've had was 4. FOUR! So any age, any ability. It's a great sport to try - you might just love it as much as we did. I had a BLAST trying out Wyld Archery last month You'll find them on the southside of the Yellowhead and 149th street in a large new building with tall glass windows. Justin, the owner, was hilarious and easy to talk to. He gave great advise for a newbie like me and was patient as I came back a few times for additional help/tips. The prices are totally affordable for trying out Archery (as in under $20!) and I love that you can come back the same day for one price. Justin did warn that the weekends are jam packed and recommended that weekdays might be easier for newbies. Justin has a pretty impressive store set up with tons of stuff to look through whether looking for hunting supplies or fun. I couldn't help but take a picture of the 100% doe and buck pee in a can to text my 7 year old at home who was rolling on the floor laughing. But on a serious note, if archery is your thing, Sir Justin can hook you up! P.S. Schools come here for archery and kids as young as 4 can come here as he has smaller bows for them! I had no idea what to expect when I was heading to archery for a fitness class. In fact, I was thinking archery? This can't be a 'real' work out. Now, i'm having to type this review out two days later because I was SO wrong. After staying for over an hour shooting arrows - I was incredibly sore. This workout hits muscles you didn't know you had in your shoulders and back. The first thing with Wyld Archery is getting there - the only reason I took off one star - it was pain to find. I drove right by it because signage was awful. It's just off the Yellowhead on a little service road in behind another warehouse. Call first, figure it out because even with GPS it was a little confusing. But, once I was there the fun began. When I first walked in the door Justin (the owner) helped get me set up. He was fantastic. He explained exactly what I needed to do; how to hold the bow and arrows; how to stand; how to shoot. It was great. I did go at 1030 AM on a Monday morning and there was only 2 other (experienced) people in there. He did say he does go through all of that with every newbie who comes in to avoid people getting hurt - pretty good policy as far as I'm concerned - and then I got let loose. Like I said, I stayed for over an hour and had a blast. I had no idea shooting arrows at a little coloured target at the end of a wall could be SO MUCH FUN. But, it was. And, I checked and you can bring your kids here too. In fact, while he doesn't recommend bringing them on weekends because it's so busy, he's had kids as young as four shooting. (They probably do as well as I did!). He's looking at expanding into offering one-on-one classes; some camps and more. I'd definitely check back on their website to stay tuned for more. But, for now, it's still reasonably priced. About $18 and if you can handle it you can stay as long as you want. It's a better deal than paying per hour because if it is busy and you have to wait your turn to shoot you're not paying to stand around. Any place that can make me feel like a Katniss / Legolas hybrid is a 5 star thing in my books. I absolutely loved my experience here! Staff is very helpful. The guy realized that our party was all newbies and took the time to instruct us how to properly use the bow, as well as giving safety instructions. Once we headed to our lanes, the regulars there provided even more help. Everyone was outrageously friendly, offering help and advice to us. Really a wonderful atmosphere to learn a new skill! There are 10 lanes, which operate on a first come, first serve basis. If the lanes are full, then you have the option of sharing a lane with someone else. We went on a Monday and had no trouble securing 4 lanes, but I can imagine it gets busy on the weekends. You can stay as long as you'd like - there's no lame times limits (which I really love! I didn't feel pressured to rush or anything). Prices for rentals are also very reasonably considering how long you can stay there. I'll definitely be back to hone my newfound skills! read more

You know those silly quizzes like "which muppet would you be?" and "what superhero hero weapon should you use?" Well it turns out if I were a Muppet I would be Fozzy Bear (yaaas!) and I don't know exactly what weapon I should use if I were a superhero, but I know it should not be a bow and arrow. My previous attempts at archery had been once as a kid at summer camp, and using my brother's nerf bow and arrow (this one from this very 90s commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrJU1uQVBB0). A real legit bow and arrow never. I really sucked at archery. That's not to say I didn't enjoy myself because I did, but if the goal was to hit the target then I failed. If the goal was to hit the floor or the would work or the outside of someone else's target then watch out. Wyld Archery is located on the Yellowhead, easiest way (I found to get there) is go up on 149th, turn right on the Yellowhead and it's basically the next set of businesses on the right side on 148th street. Regular rates are about $20/day/per person which includes the lane rental and bow and arrow. It's first come first serve and if you were really hard core you could go there all day. Safety of course is important so the owner goes over with you the rules, because no one should get impaled with an arrow. He also goes over how to hold the bow and shoot the arrow, because doing it improperly you can hurt yourself or wreck the equipment. At the very beginning each in our group was assessed on which way we'd shoot. It's very strange because I'm left-handed, but apparently I shoot right (it has to do with your dominate eye). So it took a long time for me to feel coordinated. Despite my lack of skill, was a lot of fun. And the rate of $20 per day is pretty reasonable. He was patient with the many questions I was asking to help me improve my technique to be a better marksman. Ten individuals at a time. We shoot together and we claim out arrows together for the sake of safety. Technique is key, the more I shot the better I had become even in that hour! Even I, who is unskilled in the arts of video games and hunting...all that hand eye coordination that a lot of guys seem to be so good at. It feels good to try something new cause it opens the possibility of so much more than what you thought couldn't be you. As a female, it's empowering. Who would have thought that this was *the* place to be on a Friday afternoon? The lanes were packed! We had a blast trying out archery for the first time (well, my first). After a safety lesson and tips from who I assume is the owner (he looks a lot like Kevin Smith!), we paid and off we went. $14 for a day pass for an adult and you get a bow and 3 arrows to rent. We were good after an hour, but others were there for a lot longer. Very fun way to spend an afternoon. Felt super bad ass. We went there on a date, but I was surprised at the variety of people there. Girls on their own and with other girls, guys on their own - they even do kid lessons. If your thinking that you could personify Daryl from the Walking dead in an actual zombie apocalypse I strongly urge you to get your archery practice on at Wylde Archery! This place is kind of hidden just off the south side of yellow head trail and 148 st. It's a big building with adequate free parking out front. On entering the business is divided into two parts. The first area is the front desk with different types of archery and hunting gear available for purchase. The second area is the archery range. They also do repairs for bows if you happen to own one. The store manager that greeted us was very knowledgeable and will set you up with the right gear so you can get down to the range. He gives a very stern but necessary rundown on the rules while shooting on the range and instructions on how to actually shoot the arrows with the bow. For $18.50 you get to borrow equipment and shot at the range as long as your heart desires. I really can't wait to get out to the range again. I think next time it's going to be on a date night with the hubby. You know we won't be going down too early in the next apocalypse. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Seriously though, I can't stop thinking about when I can go back next. Wyld Archery is located on the southside of the Yellowhead, just east of 149 street in a new building complex. The space is one half retail archery equipment and clothing and the other half archery lanes. There are approximately 10 lanes in total. The owner, Justin, was super thorough with instructions, and it was easy to see how passionate he is about archery. Once we got onto the range, it seemed a little tricky at first, but after recalling and following Justin's instructions, hitting the target came fairly easily! Lane rental along with recurve bow and arrows costs under $20 for a full day! Talk about a great deal! I could easily spend 2+ hours here without getting bored. Although this place is hidden within the area, I had a fun time shooting arrows for the first time. There was a time in junior high where I went to these archery places but they would only let us shoot a round of arrows and then send us back off to school. However, this time round while done school I was able to shoot many arrows which was fun and in time I got better quick. Must of been an archer in my previous life. Any who, at this rate I might even find myself buying a real bow and arrow set. What made this day even more exciting was shooting arrows with friends. The cost for renting the practice bow and arrows was reasonably good for the allowed allotted time which was till closing. Mind you that we went on a weekend and arrived in the afternoon only to finish near closing time about 5ish. There are plenty of people but near closing time only a few stay which is perfect. Woooo - I am hooked! Archery is so, so, so much fun, and I am terrible at it! Well was, at first. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it. But seriously, I really didn't think I would enjoy it that much. I had a great time. The better my posture was and more control I put into focusing and drawing arrow hand back, the better I got. I've always wanted to do archery so when I saw a groupon for this place I was so excited! It was for an All day pass for 2. We first tried going on a week night. The place was failry easy to find but the only access is on yellowhead, no back way in, with lots of parking. It's tucked around the corner amongst other businesses. Our first try the place was busy and the only staff member was teaching a couple what to do. We stood around without any acknowledgment before cutting our losses and leaving. The second time we tried was on a Saturday. Again we got in and the place was busy and we were told it was a couple hours wait. We looked at the time and they closed in a couple hours so again, we left. Finally on the last day the groupon was valid, Monday, we rushed there after work hoping to beat any rush. Finally it paid off. Again there's only one staff member. He gave us a very quick tutorial, and I mean quick, and sent us on our way. It was a little alarming being thrown in not really knowing what you're doing. For the first little while we were using the wrong side. Thankfully we had a nice gentleman who knew what he was doing who coached us while we were there. He gave us tips and watched to help fix any problems. If it wasn't for him we would have been lost the entire time and probably wouldn't have enjoyed our selves as much. We stayed for a good two hours before seeing it was getting busier and decided to leave. Overall we had a very fun time. The staff were friendly and the space pleasant. And by the end I was really getting the hang of it. But the flaws they need to work on would be better tutorials. Having people hold the bows and making sure they are using the correct stance and side would be a big one. Also setting lane times. When it gets really busy you are waiting around with no knowledge of how long people will be. They could be there for hours or a few minutes. The place has about a dozen lanes so it fills quickly. And when more people come you can have 2 to 1 lane but then that increases times as everyone only gets every other turn. So I think a booking system would be better. But the safety standards are very high as long as everyone looks out for one another and common sense is used. I felt just like robin hood! read more

So. Much. Fun. We hit up Wyld Archery for some random fun, and had a great time! The first thing you do when you get there is go through a safety briefing. You really don't want to be messing around with stuff that could hurt or kill someone else. But a few rules makes sure everyone on the lanes has a great, safe time. There are 10 lanes, all side by side, in a large hall. It's echoy, but it's not a loud sport. Mostly the noise came from the chatter of our group. I fired for about an hour and then gave my arms a break. It's really great for arm and shoulder control! I'm definitely feeling it the next day (in a good way!)! I would definitely go back! And wear a long sleeved (but tight sleeved) shirt next time, since I have a nice bruise from the bowstring (which is normal for newbies as they learn the proper holding technique). read more

The first time I went, I didn't know what to expect. My friends wanted to do some archery and try it out for our first time. There is a lot of parking, but its tricky turning into this complex. Basically, you rent a lane ($12) and a recurve bow and 3 arrows ($6) and stay as long as you like. If it's your first time here, they will take you through a safety demonstration and access you for a left or right recurve bow. You will also be given a target sheet to hang at the end of the lane. You can shoot when everyone is at the shooting line and it's safe to do so. The staff at Wyld Archery are very knowledgeable and are always helpful anytime you have a question. I didn't think I would like archery this much, but I started to really enjoy it after a few more times coming here. It has challenged me to be more focus and its also a very inspirational sport. I decided to continue learning archery, so I bought a 15 session pass. (Comes out to be $6 a session). There are a lot of regulars that come here to target practice and many of them are always willing to help you and give you pointers if you ask. This is a very down to earth place and the people here are very easy going. You'll really enjoy doing archery here, especially for beginners. I definitely felt safe given all of the information that was shared with us all ahead of time. The systems they have in place create an environment of respect and safety, which is appreciated. There were so many lanes to shoot in that can accommodate so many people at one time. It's a blast trying to hit your target, enjoying that experience with everyone around you. The store is full of great product as well and I'm sure it's a great resource for the archery community. The staff is a full of knowledge as well - we were gifted a compound bow a year ago and were able to have a great conversation with the staff too about it, to learn more about it. It can be a bit tricky to find. Make your way around to the back of the buildings facing Yellowhead and you will find them. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. I discovered I am "left eye dominant" so I need to learn to shoot all over again. Very good instructors, so I am sure this won't be an issue for future visits. The Pro shop has just about everything you could think of for target archery. They even have bow and arrow building supplies available. There are no reservations, it is first come, first served. If you are just renting a lane with your own equipment, it is $12 for the day. If you need to rent a bow prices will vary depending on what type of bow you would like to be practicing with all day. This was my first Yelp event of the year. My first go at this (and second time) were embarrassingly bad. So don't be like me and if you didn't catch anything during the initial instructions, to not ask for it to be repeated, this will make it less frustrating the first time doing it. But after some advice from the guy working there (as well as some fellow Yelpers), I was actually hitting the target (I count it as a hit even if it wasn't my target haha). And I only had to do the "walk of shame" with the ladder twice to pull my arrows out from the top of the target range! Even if you're not sure if this would be your type of thing, I would recommend to come out and give it a try. Even bringing out a friend or two if feeling uncomfortable being a newbie. I think an hour is more than enough time to bring out your inner Robin Hood. One thing I learned is if I had to hunt with a bow and arrow to survive, I'd be living on a diet of berries! So if someone like me can pick it up and at most hit my target once in a while (or my neighbor's) after about 20 minutes, then anyone can do it. We went to Wyld archery last year with a few friends.t. I haven't used a bow and arrow in a long time (only as a kid, never hunting or anything) and was excited to try it again. It was a blast! This is definitely a great idea for an outing if you are looking for something different to do. This is cheaper than going out to bowl and you can stay as long as you want once you rent a lane and a bow with arrows if you need those as well. They have an archery Pro Shop if you want to buy some of your own equipment. The staff is very helpful as are the regulars that attend. There are about a dozen lanes so they can accommodate a lot of people. I heard on the weekends it can be very busy but week nights are a bit better if you want to avoid the crowds. The lanes long very very long and the targets far away. This may look daunting at first but you will get the hang of it. Everyone in our group was hitting the target eventually. Let's shoot arrows all day! That's what I spent my day doing with a couple of my friends. Wyld Archery is a combination of a pro shop and lanes. The location is a bit hard to find. I thought it'd be easy because my GPS told me it's on the Yellowhead but it's actually behind businesses on the Yellowhead. The owner, Justin, was super nice and informative. He went over the rules and basics of archery when we first got there. I was a bit intimidated but I knew he wanted everyone to stay safe! Once that was done with, we spent our time shooting arrows and trying to hit targets. At first I tried to get the right form and technique. Once I did, it wasn't hard to do. It does get a bit tiring after a while though! My arm is feeling the soreness right now. There's a few members/regulars that go there and they're nice as well. They provide help and guidance if they see that you're a newbie. There a few lanes to shoot in but if you go when there's a lot of people, it can be more time consuming! You'll have to wait for everyone to finish shooting their arrows before you can go and collect yours to shoot again. I never knew archery could be this enjoyable. I recommend it if you want to have an hour or even a day of fun! read more

I'll be back at Wyld Archery!!! By the end of my 1 hour session I got 3 arrows into the yellow bullseye and 5 more in the 2nd ring! I hadn't notched a bow in over 15 years but Justin made it so easy with his introduction and safety presentation that I felt comfortable and reassured. I visited this location thanks to the event organized by @YelpFitClub. Definitively a fun activity and good workout. Safety orientation took place the first few minutes upon our arrival. They have strict rules to follow but I'm happy they do, made me feel more confortable to try this new activity. I have been to Wyld Archery twice, and both times I have really enjoyed it. It can get very busy, which can be a bit tough if you are uncomfortable and need space to develop your skills. However, the store manager is very knowledgeable (and funny) which helps you to get your bearings. He also provides a good safety briefing which allows you to feel safe doing this activity, just in case you had any reservations at the outset. As some of the other reviews state, it is a bit tricky to get into this place. You have to be travelling eastbound on the Yellowhead and go past the 149 street turn, then turn onto a small service road and into the parking lot. There is plenty of parking available. If you want to shoot a basic bow, it'll cost you about $20. If you want to use a fancier bow that takes some of the guesswork out of it, it costs a bit more. If you have your own bow, $12 for the lane fee. The store also sells a variety of clothing and equipment. Definitely recommend it. It is more of a workout than you think at first! read more

I got my inner Katniss Everdeen at Wyld Archery! It was super fun learning how to shoot an arrow. Staff was friendly when teaching us how to use the bow and place the arrow. It is not as complicated as you may think and you can learn very fast. This place is suitable for first time as well as experienced shooters. My sister had been wanting to do archery for a while so I grabbed a random Groupon to try this out. Turned out to be a ton of fun and it wasn't super busy on a Tuesday evening so we both got to simultaneously shoot. The owner (I am assuming) has an absolutely insane sense of humor. It seemed the people who were already there are regulars and extremely helpful in keeping me from breaking the rules and killing myself. Truly a fun place to be and a great experience. -Short form, bought a $550 sight and was not allowed to sight in my bow free of charge after spending that amount. I felt the need to take a moment to write a review for Wyld Archery after my recent experience in the store. I purchased a spot Hogg Hogg Father sight retailed at $550 from Wyld Archery about a week ago and was unable to stay and sight in at the moment of purchase. I let Justin know that I would be back to sight my bow in at a later time. It's important to note that I have purchased archery equipment at other shops in the past and the standard has always been that if the equipment was purchased from them they would take care of the setup required free of charge. Naturally this is also what I expected from Wyld Archery. After all, I had just purchased a $550 sight. To my surprise when I returned to Wyld to sight it in, Justin advised me that i would have to pay the lane fee (approx $12). I then reiterated how much I had payed for the sight and how other shops I had previously dealt with had always provided this service free of charge. Justin's response was "if I did that for everyone I would be out of business". Not only is that hard to believe I found it to be incredibly petty that the owner would nickel and dime me over $12 after spending that much at his shop. I even went as far to advise him that I could get it sighted in at Jimbows Archery for free just for buying my bow there. Justin held is ground that he would not budge on the fee and so I decided to leave, astonished at the extremely poor customer service I had received. To make matters worse he had previously quoted me a price of about $400 for the sight and then upon purchasing it I was told the cost was now $550. And now he's fighting me on a $12 lane fee!!! I had not even said anything about having to pay the extra $150. After leaving the shop I decided to call Justin to discuss the situation as I could not shrug how petty it all was. Upon speaking to me, you could tell he had already started to think about the possible ramifications of his words as he then changed his mind and said he would now allow me to return to sight it in for free but never apologized for what had occurred. He tried to defend himself by stating that he had forgotten how much I had payed for the sight. Yet I looked directly at him when I was in the shop and mentioned how much I payed for it. Therefore I knew that what he was saying wasn't true and he was probably just trying to avoid receiving a review such as this one. It got a little awkward for me at this point and I obviously did not feel comfortable returning so I opted to go to Jimbows Archery, where they remembered me, greeted me and allowed me to sight in my bow without asking for a cent. I would not recommend Wyld's shop especially for higher end purchases, as you will be disappointed with how poorly your treated afterwards. Justin is super helpful. The range is a comfortable size, everyone was "on target" and mindful of the rules. After Justin's instructions I was much more confident with the bow today. I had taken a morning class about two years ago but found the tips Justin gave me simpler and more specific. Thanks to his directions I didn't whack my arm with the bowstring this time. That was an unpleasant habit I developed before coming to Wyld, which took some of the enjoyment out of my previous experience. Now I know how to avoid it and correct it! Thanks Justin! I had a way more enjoyable and pain free time here at Wyld. I totally recommend it. Can't say I made a bullseye, but I got close and it was so absorbing! I showed Justin my target when I was finished. I had a tendency to draw to the right and he was kind enough to explain one simple correction to try next time! And yes, there will be a next time. I'm already excited! I will warn folks the archery building is BEHIND the building on the Trail. Go around to the back! It was somewhat tricky to find as it was tucked away from the service road. Had a great time at YelpFitClub. Expected more lanes. The lanes seemed pretty close to one another, but when you're aiming, it's not too bad. The guy there showed us some rules/instructions and we were set to shoot. This was my first time at an Archery lane and I found it very interesting. It take a while to get use to the proper technique and I found that I prefer to shoot a compound bow over a recurve. Prices seem reasonable and the instructions on how to shoot properly were very well explained. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Was here for a training session on how to work a bow. Hadn't used one sick high school. The trainer was super friendly and knowledgeable. Had lots of fun, and even managed to hit the yellow on the target! Yes! Definitely would recommend this for anyone looking for a fun time! read more

I entered Wyld Archery not knowing what to expect, but definitely left having had a great time. I have never tried my hand at archery before, but it was surprisingly not as difficult as I imagined it would be thanks to Justin's very thorough instructions. Also, just because you are right-handed does not necessarily mean you will be using a right-handed bow as it depends on which eye is dominant. While it was a little tricky getting used to using a left-handed bow, I did eventually get the hang of things and was able to hit the target a few times on my first outing. If you are interested in trying archery, this is a great place to do it, especially since the prices are pretty reasonable with bow and lane rentals totaling under $20 for a full day. So there is really no excuse to not try it at least once! read more

Our experience here compared to other archery lanes was poor at best. My wife and I came here in the hopes to get her into the feel of bow shooting to prepare for the upcoming hunting season as she has never used a bow before. A bit difficult to find as its tucked in behind some other buildings but we found it. After arriving we walked in and were barely greeted by the gentleman at the front desk. After telling him that I had my own bow but my wife would need one he told us we can pick our lanes and walked away. Seeing as how all the other archery shops we went to would bring your bow and give you a proper run down on safe handling and how to use it we went to pick our lanes so I could set up my bow while we waited for my wifes. After a few minutes passed by I went to ask him about the bow and saw one sitting on the front counter with 3 arrows and a release. Now I'm not sure if every compound bow they have is the same but there were no measurements taken to ensure my wife was outfitted properly for her draw length and the arrows were also 3 different lengths and 2 of which had damaged fletchings. The bow itself was damaged as well with no arrow rest or any sort of sight and the D loop for her release to attach to so she could draw her bow was missing. We could nock the arrow but the release had to attach either above or below the arrow on the bow string itseld instead of being flush behind the arrow. The release itself was broken as the spring was missing so we would have to hold the release closed in order for the arrow to not prematurely shoot. The release was also too big for her wrist. Now I'm not expecting top of the line Matthew's or Hoyt for a bow or top of the line equipment either for renting but i was expecting a little more than what we had to deal with. My wife shot two rounds and gave up as it was next to impossible for her to shoot effectively. Seeing as how she has never shot a bow before I tried it myself with the same result, poor outcomes. The lack of care from the staff and poor quality of the equipment they have has made it so we decided to never return to wyld archery. read more
