My son and I needed to arrive at Oberlin College by 11:00 Monday, so staying overnight in nearby Lorain, OH at this beautiful hotel was the perfect solution. The hotel's restaurant is always closed Sunday-Monday, so we didn't get to try that, but we were able to find take-out from a restaurant in Amherst, and eat in our room. We were really surprised to learn that only two families were staying at the hotel the night we stayed! We got a great deal on Expedia for a queen double room. About $112 in total, and parking was free. Free Wifi. Super clean facility. Beds were so comfortable and the shower was awesome. I loved all the cute vintage features, like the mail shoot by the elevator. No swimming inpool yet, due to COVID of course, but perhaps we will enjoy a swim on our next visit. We will definitely stay here next time we are visiting Oberlin, which is about a 25 minute drive from Lorain. Thank you to Sabrina and the other hotel staff for being so welcoming and for providing my son and I with such a wonderful and relaxing stay! Updated: we stayed here for Oberlin College graduation weekend and had a solid stay although it was rowdier at night during the weekend when a wedding was happening. Room was clean, beds were ok. Free parking. Limited staff around, and no room cleaning during our stay, but when we called for room towels we received them. Pool was nice but the area around the pool, bathroom, sauna (closed) and exercise room could use some attention and updating.

My husband stated that we were interested in a future stay and needed a brochure. She said," wait out here I'll be right back". A few minutes later she appeared with a business card asking if we were going to stay this year or next?!! Wtf?! She also told us not to park where we did, it was a private driveway. Seriously? How would you know that? There were NO signs pertaining to this. It was a driveway made for 6 cars! First impressions are very important and this place wasn't warm, inviting or friendly. We would NEVER stay in a place like this!!! Seriously the worst experience ever. I wish we could give this place a negative star!

It has electric outlets right where you need them, all the kitchen tools and items we needed, the AC and ceiling fans kept it nice and cool on one of the hottest weeks of the year, the screened in porch offered a great place to read and watch the sunsets, the beds were comfortable and the towels were nice and fluffy. Jeff and Judy were great hosts, offering right on point ideas for places to eat and visit. The location is great, right across the street from the lake so great views and only a few minutes from all the cool places to go.

It's only slightly further out from the theme park than other hotels and infinitely worth the price reduction. The fancy old school neon sign out front is a helpful waypoint when you're coming back after dark (no missing your turn!). This isn't a chain location; it's independently owned and operated by a swell fella named Steve. Steve was very friendly and happy to have us for three nights. Each morning we were able to go over to the "office" (the back of his home) and snag free coffee, donuts, fruit, and granola bars (no COVID excuses!). He said hi to us or waved whenever he saw us enter or leave the property. And what a gorgeous piece of property it is! We both really enjoyed the more "homey" feel to this over the traditional parking lot + multifloor hotel. The rooms are small and honestly reminded me of my grandma's old house, which is probably accurate because this place was probably built around the 1950's. You can see it in the tile bathrooms and fixtures. That said, it is on the older side so there are some imperfections here and there if you look close. Some rusty grout, some warped wood, that kind of thing. Sure, it'd be nice if some renovations were done. But again, we spent the majority of our time riding roller coasters, not relaxing in our room so we really weren't seeking a "resort" experience. It all depends on what you're looking for in a stay. There is a pool which we unfortunately never got the time to utilize, but it looked really nice and the hours are generous. The ice machine worked really well so we were never without cold water to drink. The only thing that was missing that would've been really nice to have was a mini fridge/microwave so we could have some meals without going out. Each room also comes with a fold-out little bed so you can sleep an additional person or child. I actually ended up using it because it was softer than the full-sized bed. Steve was generous in supplying additional soap bars/shampoo during our multi day stay. The TV worked well and had all the standard channels. The wi-fi worked great for all my needs! A/C was functional and not too loud. Do note that this place is right next to the railroad tracks and trains will go by throughout the day/evening. We noticed the busiest time seemed to be 7am. The trains always blow their whistle while going by and it is quite loud.

However, when a business is open for 100 years, you have to give it a shot! First, I highly recommend that the owners hire a social media manager and post pictures that do this place justice. The grounds are super cute and the sign offers a great photo op! Walking into the room brought an enormous rush of nostalgia. It was cool to be able to stay in a place that my grandparents would have stopped at in their younger years. Most importantly, the rooms and bathrooms were super clean!! The room comes with a modern television and a small refrigerator. The property owners are very personable and, as part of your room fee, they provide freshly made local donuts each morning. The donuts are worth the stay alone. In this day and age, we were surprised to be able to find such a cool Experience for such little cost. Easy parking, beautiful pool (we didn't use it but it looked nice), amazing customer service. Without hesitation, we will stay here whenever we are back in town. Maples Motel is a historic treasure and I highly recommend staying here.

It was gorgeous, with an electric fireplace and great view. Yes it is pricey, but for one night it is a nice splurge. Look at it this way... There is a free public parking lot right across the street - No parking fees. It is a very short walk to and from the Jet Express and the restaurants and shops on Columbus Ave. (such a cute and bustling area) - No ride share fees. Also no worries about driving back to the property after having a "few" cocktails at Put In Bay. That can save thousands of dollars right there! Yes you can hear some noise from the street, the restaurant's outdoor patio downstairs and the rooftop bar, but it is not overly loud and earplugs are provided. You are in the heart of Sandusky! Embrace it or consider a stay somewhere less convenient. This particular room would not be great for an extended stay, as there are no drawers to put your clothes in, but there is a bench with plenty of hooks and a few hangers that is sufficient for a day or two. Be sure to check the Jet Express schedule for Sandusky if that's the reason for choosing this property. I found out the hard way, a few years ago, that this location's season ends earlier than Port Clinton's. I believe they are done after Labor Day weekend.

In addition, within walking distance is a surprisingly vibrant restaurant scene, with everything from gastropub to sushi. The next morning, we brunched and Yelped Wake Up and Waffle. Who knew Sandusky was a foodie town? staff Front desk staff was professional and polite. Great recommendations and suggestions. Desk is not staffed after midnight, but they have a number you can call. Desk also not staffed in the morning. You just drop your keys and go! There is a local gift shop in the lobby which has some cool, local options. location This is a renovated three-story building in the heart of downtown. Something like nine rooms total, plus the restaurant and bar. Free surface parking is across the street.

Winter concerts are smaller, limited to 90 seats in the gallery; summer concerts are held in the barn, with an attendance limit of about 150. Ticket prices are $15 for all shows and RSVP's via email are first-come-first-serve. Before the show, you can come early, order a wood-fired pizza, and relax in the lounge. During intermission, light refreshments are graciously provided by the hosts and alcoholic beverages are BYOB. This cozy, welcoming, quirky venue is one of the most pleasant and unique concert-going experiences I have ever had and I will jump at the chance to return!
