On an outward appearance the hotel looks great. Nice newly paved parking lot with a lot of lights. The backdrop is the river and there is a boardwalk with a lighthouse at the end. Only one entrance to get in the hotel, while weird actually isn't a bad idea. The staff is pretty friendly but that's where it kind of ends. We had three rooms. Two of the three rooms had problems to the point one room was relocated to the honeymoon suite on the first floor. The first room that needed to be changed but then they couldn't get it the cable to work either. My room didn't have a fridge, broken toilet seat, toilet that needed to be plunged because it wouldn't flush, lukewarm water (jacuzzi tub and no hot water). The pool water so FREEZING! I jumped in and nearly shivered to death. We asked and they first said the heater had broke but two hours later it was back on. Hmmmph. Continental breakfast is what is. We are choice privileges members.

    My dirty river view

Well, let's see...... This appeared to be a great hotel from the outside. Nice exterior, right next to the river, and the grounds were pretty clean. Although I have to say, I have never seen a bowling alley next to a hotel before, that was definitely a first. When you walk inside, you can definitely tell this hotel didn't start out as a Comfort Inn. It looks like it desperately needs a makeover and\or an update. So, I went to check in. No one is at the front desk. I see a sign on the counter that says something like "stand under the sensor and someone will be right with you." I was confused and then I looked up to the ceiling and see a motion detector pointing down at me (definitely another first). The person that was smoking outside the front door when I came in was actually the front desk person. She was pretty nice, got me checked in fast, and handed me my room key. She also told me that my room key wouldn't work in the separate entrances apart from the main door (another first). Got to the room and it was pretty clean but didn't really have any wow factor. I had a river view room, but I couldn't see clearly from the dirty room windows. Even the room seems like a hotel from the '80s or '90s. I have a wobbly desk that I am writing this on, a side chair with no ottoman, a water faucet in the bathtub that keeps dripping water, a fridge that barely keeps cans cold, a bathtub with no stopper, an A\C unit that kind of smells musty, a TV that has no premium channels or streaming options. But, at least the free WIFI works. This place is suitable for a couple of days of a work trip, and that is about it. I have stayed at some excellent Comfort Inns across the country.

    Front

We loved this place! This is not a brand new hotel but it's beautiful and we'll maintained. 3 floors with a nice elevator. Located right on the water (Huron River). About 10 miles from Cedar Point Park and 22 minute drive to Summit Dragway. The staff was all super friendly, parking is free and very close, free coffee and ice water in lobby. Free full breakfast in a nice comfortable dining room. Our room has a refrigerator and microwave. Absolutely no complaints.

No grab bars. Really short toilet. Lip on shower stall prevents wheelchair use.

Reviews were great so we quickly pulled the trigger! Check in process was super simple. You can check in on the app and you can actually pick your room. Since we have never stayed here before, we didn't have a preference so we let them pick. We quickly verified the ID at the front desk and we were on our way to our room. Receptionist were both very friendly and even offered us waters. They do have hot coffee and hot water for tea/hot chocolate available 24/7 in the lobby. They also have a 24/7 store at the desk with sooo many snacks and drink options! They have multiple TVs, sittting areas and shuffle board/foosball in the lobby, which we saw lots of people enjoying. Our room was spacious. Plenty of room for storage. It smelled fresh and clean. The shower was perfect size, just wish the water was a bit warmer. My boyfriend has been raving about the hand soap since the second he tried it (it's a great scent!). They have hand soap, body lotion, conditioner, shampo, body wash all hanging on the wall for your convenience. Our king bed was very comfy and the AC worked perfectly in our room. The breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I have ever eaten. So many options! I opt for the cheese egg omelets, sausage patties, and pancakes. Plenty of toppings for your pancakes, as well as toppings for yogurt and oatmeal too. Large variety of breads and carbs. It was perfect before a long day at Cedar Point! All staff was so nice and welcoming during our entire stay. Pet friendly!

We made arrangements on the phone with Cindy to reserve all 6 motel rooms, the pavilion and the attached 3 BR house. The motel rooms: Each had something different to offer. All were very large. All had fridge, microwave, full size drip coffee maker and 2 queen size beds. Room 2 had a kitchenette and room 6 has a sliding glass door with a small patio and view of the sunset. We were there in the very beginning of the season and the motel rooms were a bit "musty". We live near the ocean so we knew what to expect when a property is closed up for a period of time and brought some diffusers and essential oils. This made everything perfect. I imagine as the season rolls along, the musty-ness goes away. The towels and linens were great and the pillows very comfortable What to bring when staying in the motel: coffee and condiments, coffee cups, hair dryer, cooler for ice or bring some extra plastic ice cube trays, bathrobe. You don't get the fancy, extra swag that you get at the high priced hotels. The attached house: All linens and towels were provided and checked on every day. Plates, glassware, cups, pots and pans, silverware, drip coffee maker, tea kettle, and a few serving pieces are provided. There is one ice cube tray in the full size refrigerator. Full size washer and dryer. We bought bags of ice at the marina down the street. There is also a growing (I'm assuming) amount of stuff that people leave. Foil, baggies, laundry detergent, paper plates, paper towels ice etc. I wouldn't depend on those things, but maybe call Cindy the day before you leave to see what's there so you don't drag it there. We liked having a large cooler for beer and extra ice. There is a gas grill and a picnic table on one patio, an enclosed porch with seating and an outside porch with seating. Also a nice size "mud room" with lots of storage and places to hang jackets and purses. Beach chairs are provided down at the beach as well as fire wood for fires. There is plenty of green space for out door games. The pavilion: This is the jewel of the property!!!!!! IT IS STUNNING! Inside has a bar and full size refrigerator. And plenty of room for tables. We set up our food tables (3 6 ft tables) and there was still plenty of room. I couldn't tell if there was AC. The temp was very comfortable. This building has a covered outside area that comfortably seats at least 30 people. Round black wrought iron tables and chairs. About 6 or 7 low top tables that could seat 5. Below the covered space is an open deck that had a mixture of low top tables and high tip pub wrought iron tables and chairs. Could seat another 30 people at least. THE BEST PART OF THIS AREA IS THE NIGHTLY SUNSET. THERE ARE NO WORDS!!!!! Cindy, our hostess: Where would we be without her????? I hate to think. She was engaging from the get go in December. She helped us narrow down the caterer, rolled along when we changed the guests in the motel rooms, we changed the number of nights several times and was at our beck and call the minute we arrived. If she was leaving for the day, she would say "just give me a call if you need anything"!!!! She helped us haul all of our stuff down to the pavilion for the celebration, and kept the trash cans from overflowing. She did everything very unobtrusively. Hardly knew she was there. Cindy was so friendly and helpful. A true hostess! We have decided to replicate this trip (without the funeral part!) every 2 years to meet up with friends and relatives. Can't beat the value, accommodations or especially the hospitality! Would live here year round if I could!

Knowing that economy was a priority, I was anxious - but we loved it here! The private beach is amazing, and the HUGE yard/property was beautiful. A fire pit and a pile of wood was even available for our use, along with plenty of lawn/beach chairs. This is a traditional "motel" (Not hotel) setup, but with only 6 units, it felt more private, and with much cleaner and larger rooms than normal, and homey accoutrements, not to mention a full size refrigerator, which was invaluable to my family of 4, since we were there for 4 days. We spent 2 days on the beach relaxing and 2 at Cedar Point, which is less than a half hour away. Lastly, Patti, the owner, with whom you personally deal throughout your entire experience, is a delight! Friendly, unpretentious, thorough, and obviously caring. If/when we ever come back this way- we will call Patti. For the location, beach, and local family ownership- I can't imagine more bang for the buck.

About 3 weeks ago, Cedar Point let its hotel guests know that they would be closing their hotels on Monday and Tuesday nights. This meant that our booking of Sunday night through Tuesday would be half invalid. I was scrambling to find us a hotel in the area that wasn't insanely priced or disgustingly gross. I found this Hampton Inn and the price was great - we paid $250 total for 2 nights. The hotel is about 20 minutes from Cedar Point, which isn't terrible at all for the price that we paid. I checked in online the day before and our room was ready at my selected check-in time. We arrived about 15-20 minutes before that time, so that was on us. Receptionist was super nice and helpful. She was also very nice the next morning when I came down to ask about the breakfast boxes. Breakfast boxes consisted of a yogurt, mini bagel, and two hard-boiled eggs. Not the best breakfast - but for a free box, it was fine. Coffee is served 24/7 in the lobby. Pool is open until 11pm and had a hot tub that was absolutely fantastic after a long 7 hour drive. Main pool was a bit cold, but we made do. The room was extremely clean - they had the sticker to indicate that the room had been cleaned and sanitized. Room came fully stocked with toiletries - including shower cap and cotton swabs. They aren't doing housekeeping during the stay, so if you need anything you can just ask the front desk. Beds were comfortable and came with a heavy comforter, which was very nice. Pillows were actually not bad. All in all, I had a great stay and will definitely be keeping my eye out for Hampton Inn's in the future.

What happened next is far more troubling. Despite having a Do Not Disturb sign on our door for our entire stay, housekeeping entered our room while we were not present and set our alarm clock to go off at 6:00 a.m. We never used or set the alarm at any point. This was not an isolated incident. The exact same thing happened to at least two other guests we spoke with, each of whom also had Do Not Disturb signs displayed and whose alarm clocks went off at exactly 6:00 a.m. the same morning. After being woken up at 6:00 a.m., a male housekeeper opened our door again at 8:00 a.m., waking us a second time -- three hours before checkout. Thankfully, I was in the room, as my 14-year-old daughter was asleep. I immediately reported this to the front desk and was casually told it was a "mistake." Entering an occupied guest room multiple times with a Do Not Disturb sign displayed is not a mistake -- it is a serious breach of privacy and guest safety. To make matters worse, housekeeping carts and equipment were loudly pushed through the halls throughout the day and evening, making rest nearly impossible. The hotel also does not provide basic cable, meaning channels like NBC and ESPN were unavailable -- disappointing during a major national event like the Olympics. I made multiple attempts to contact the hotel's manager, Matthew Watson, and received no response whatsoever. This property shows little respect for guest privacy, safety, or basic comfort. If you value a quiet stay or personal security, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.
