Loved our first visit here this week. Mostly vegetarian w/ vegan options & protein add-ons available so not exclusive vegetarian. Had chicken & other meat protein add-ons available. Wonderful, quirky decor w/ a great covered front patio. Small bar. Some liquor drinks on menu in addition to beer and wine- didn't test bartending talents so not sure how well they do w/ off-menu cocktails. I had the sweet potato enchiladas which were excellent! Came w/ 2 of them, each about the size (a little smaller) of a Chipotle burrito and I could only eat one. If you can generally share an entree w/ someone, you may want to consider doing that here, at least w/ this dish. Good service; nice wait staff. Will def go back. read more

Favorite restaurant from my trip to Boone. Had Gouda tempeh tacos. First time trying tempeh and I loved it, especially with Gouda flavor. Tacos were literally bursting with flavor and almost impossible to eat like a regular taco - but who doesn't love a messy meal. Server offered us homemade hot sauce that was amazing. On menu tacos were $12... was charged $9.50. Can't complain. Will definitely return! read more

This is all in the context of a near empty restaurant on Sunday afternoon. We were sitting on the patio with our well behaved dog. We were greeted with a server that wouldn't look at us or talk to us. He may have been hung over? He had dark closely cut hair. Either way he acted as if our mere presence was painful. When he asked us what we wanted I placed the order for our appetizer and my drink. He walked away without even asking what my boyfriend would like. We looked at each other like, "Did that just happen?" We had to flag him down. He did not check on his empty beer. We ate our appetizer, a tasty plate of nachos and then placed our order. While placing our order I started to ask for the chips and ... (he interupts, "We are out of chips and salsa.) Silence. No suggestions from him or anything. Next my boyfriend asks what soups they have. The server blankly wouldn't tell us and instead points from across the table to the menu in front of us. Its was almost laughable. About 15 minutes after our appetizer is finished he comes back, looks us in eye and says there has been a mistake with our order and that they are making it now. In the same breath he says, "And you can't have your dog on the bench." This was the most eye contact and attention he had ever paid to us. I understood that our dog couldn't be on the bench. Normally, I would have just apologized. But given how terrible he had treated us, I said "I want the check." He didn't seem to understand that we wanted to leave. He responds,"Yeah, but you can't have your dog on the bench." "We are leaving. This has been a pretty awful experience." No apology. Nothing. Just rudeness. I had better customer service at the gas station on my ride back to Asheville. It was awful. As a nurse and former restaurant worker who understands customer service and hard work, this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a server. read more

Cute little restaurant that has several vegan options. We visited on a Saturday evening, so it was really busy and also had 2 large parties/reservations. We probably waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Took awhile to order, have drinks refilled and clear our finished plates. Food took a little while, but I think that was due mainly to the large parties. Food was great, the whole family enjoyed their meals - Shepherd's pie, tamale, and curry. Tried the vegan chocolate Kahlua cake, quite disappointing, $6 each and nobody liked it. Overall, it was a good place to eat, with great options. The last time I had food as bad as the food at Hob Nob was in a hole in the wall restaurant in Guatemala City that had a roach crawling up the wall, and even they had better plantains. The food was so bad that I started to dry heave as I was walking away. No, I am not exaggerating. Let's start with the food. We ordered plantains as an appetizer. When they came out they were dripping with grease, had no flavor whatsoever and more closely resembled a banana slug than a plantain. In other words, they were under cooked. They were also served with a mango yogurt sauce, which was not bad, but nothing to write home about. It is, however, a curious selection for an appetizer as the yogurt mango sauce was sweet and the plantains, the way they cooked them, should have been sweet as well. I think a more savory green plantain would do better for an appetizer. I ordered their quinoa burger and my husband ordered arroz con pollo. The quinoa burger came out greasy, and what I think were onions and mushrooms on top were burnt to the point that they were no longer recognizable as food. I could not eat more than two bites of it, and when I walked into the restaurant I was starving. In other words, I preferred starving to eating this food. The arroz con pollo was bland and the beans that it was served with were very watery. Now on to the over all experience. It took 1 hour from when we sat down to when we got our food, which I could have forgiven because it was busy. The menu is just too big with too many cuisines. I was a little overwhelmed by the selection. They would do well to limit the scope of the menu and focus on providing better food. I think they also fall into the trap of thinking that fancy ingredients will compensate for shoddy cooking. No amount of aioli, though, would make that greasy brunt mess of a burger they served me edible. It was not all terrible, though. The waitress was very nice, and did not charge us for the burger. The menu is also very veggie and vegan friendly with all of the plates clearly labeled. The patio was nice. read more

This place has a lovely environment so I was really looking forward to it. I got the sangria after reading all the good reviews about it and it was incredibly underwhelming. The guac was also lacking some flavor but even with disappointing drink and appetizer, I was still excited for my meal. I ordered the tempeh tacos and my partner got the enchiladas. The tempeh was very good but the corn tortillas could have been thrown in a pan and heated up before serving. The enchiladas were extremely disappointing and soaked in a flavorless sauce. We had to endure a grueling 50 minute wait for two burritos and a tepid, soggy hamburger that was equal parts bacon and gristle. My wife got the smoked turkey and brie and I got one of the specials, the Cubano (Why is this a special and not on the menu! Packed parking lot + smiling patrons = good restaurant. So it is with Hob Nob Farm Cafe. The menu offers a wide variety of unique dishes, the food is fresh and wholesome, and the prices are very resonable. My husband enjoyed a blackened chicken salad sprinkled with black beans, crushed tortilla chips, and scrumptious tomatoes with an impressive cilantro lime vinagrette. My daughter was thrilled with an open faced grilled cheese on homemade bread with a tasty tomato gouda soup. I was thorouhly impressed with the spicy fish tacos served with a tomato-olive salsa. They offer delicious smoothies, an assortment of beer, wine and mixed drinks (the bloody mary's looked particularly tasty.) The atmosphere is colorful & ecletic. There is outdoor seating and we heard that this week, they're installing an awning over the patio for shading! The staff are very nice and helpful. Our waiter was a bit forgetful, but we still had a wonderful experience. We highly recommend Hob Nob Farm Cave. Obviously respected by locals, it's a true gem. read more

Excellent place that has a diverse menu, local focus and lots of vegetarian options. You can get anything from American, Asian, Cuban inspired dishes. When I went for dinner there were some salmon and chorizo tacos on special that were phenomenal. The combination of ingredients was very interesting but fascinating and tasty. We came to Hob Knob for breakfast before we went zip lining over at Sky Valley. We were pressed for time and a bit disappointed to see Hob Knob does not have a lot of breakfast options (though they do have a small brunch menu and smoothies). I ordered a Big Bang smoothie and it was so good! I also ordered a tempeh and egg biscuit, the tempeh was really tasty. My friends also said their food was okay. One downside was that they were out of sausage and my friend who had ordered sausage had to ask about it after her plate had come out sans sausage. We went two days in a row and the second day was ALOT better. We had a girl the second day. My daughter goes to ASU so we went up and went over after the game, well, game well in hand 4th quarter, actually.... Anyway - We sat outside on the deck. Got someone out there very quickly, but that was about the last time we saw the server without tracking her down ourselves. We ordered the Nachos - meh, nothing special We ordered the Rice and Beans (good), Tiger Soft Tacos (meh - nothing special), and the Carolina Yardbird - Don't know yet, My daughter had to leave and boxed and Left. I would say the service leaves a lot to be desired, but we never got any service there so its really hard to tell. We got our drinks and it was over an hour before we saw her again - My coffee was ice colds. We could see her through the window talking to folks at tables inside, but she never came back out. Funny part is she could not understand why I was fed up and ready to leave....
